The hotel is located in a fabulous location on top of the hill and in the middle of the forest. It is an historic hotel, with a lot of history and important politicians who stayed at this Grandhotel.
However, the hotel seems to still leave a bit in the past and it can be perceived when walking through the corridors. The room was ok, quite spacious and with a very nice bathroom. Unfortunately, not all the details were perfect, like one of the jealousies were not working. It was also impossible to make the room fully dark, given the light coming through the curtains.
The pool and the sauna area were ok, just a bit small for a hotel of this importance. Similar vibes were experienced at the breakfast, were a standard buffet is available while the options a la carte are very limited, with some different eggs choice and pancakes.
Last but not least, the personnel was generally nice but, not up to the standards compared to other guests: very short check-in information compared to two different guests before us and no water offered at the check out. Moreover, the inner parking was full, and we had to use the outside “free self parking”, which is 12 € daily, with machines not accepting foreign credit cards.
In a nutshell, charming hotel in a very nice location but not a full 5 stars treatment.

Stop over on way back to Scotland from Switzerland. Arrived late and was still able to get a meal in restaurant . Staff were excellent. Only issue we had they wanted to charge us for breakfast when we had already paid when we booked. Manager sorted it out. Will definitely use the hotel again

Most remarkable hotel !

Most remarkable hotel I ever stayed in !
Cause is highly unlikely to sleep in the midle of the winter in a Deluxe grand room (350€) in a 5 star hotel (who granted them ?) without heating (not bad heating but total lack of heating).
And even more remarkable with the hotel manager’s complete knowledge of the situation!!!
Would I recommend it ?
With certainty and with all my heart…but only on the first of April.

Not a great 5 Star Hotel (during COVID)

Nice hotel but during COVID pandemic they are not up to speed what you would normally expect from a 5 Star Hotel.

Order room service (since restaurants are closed - which is COVID related and nothing they can do about) but the soup arrived cold and the club sandwich was ok but not especial and the Schnitzel was below average but I was hungry so did eat it. Again no problem but not what you expect from 5 Star Hotel.
We where only 5 hotel guests in total and asked for a room with a view - that request was denied... ???
They also managed to mess up my bill so I paid the room service of another person (did not check at checkout since the amount was more or less what I consumed so I guess all was good...)
Breakfast was very slow but good. I can understand why the hotel is cutting on staff ect... but then I would rather close it (like many other 5 Star Hotels did) and not run a poorly managed 5 Star hotel since I will never come back here since it was not worth the money and the management did not make any effort to make our stay better (room with a view) or great room service food...
Again I am sure this is a great hotel normally but right now they are not making the best out of this situation...

Great hotel stay overall, minor changes needed

Amazing hotel overall. Beautifully renovated. Great views. Service could be better. Main issue that NEEDS to be addressed: hotel guests should be able to access the hotel late at night with their room card and not by tracking down someone at the reception to let them in! (Especially since the reception bell outside the main entrance was not working!)

Amazing stay

Our room wasn’t ready until 40 minutes after check-in, but the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! I definitely recommend staying here! Be sure to check out the gorgeous view of the town and river. We will be back!

Definitely a Grand Hotel.

This hotel certainly lives up to the title grand hotel. Its beautiful and the rooms re nice but the view to wake up to is amazing. The grounds are lovely for an early morning stroll. If your looking for a centre of town hotel this isn’t the one, but if your looking for somewhere special to stay this is for you. Oh and the views at dinner are special. As a side not, the wifi was reliable and strong. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else in this area.

Beautiful location, stunning views

The Steigenberger Grand Hotel Petersberg was everything we hoped for and more. It was the venue for a wedding we had travelled from Australia to attend and our stay at the hotel was for five days of relaxing and unwinding in the middle of a whirlwind tour of Europe. The standard double room I was in was beautifully appointed with a marble bathroom with bathtub and numerous other features. The other room our group had, while still very nice, by comparison looked as though it could be due for an update. The staff were sensational - very friendly and helpful. The bar was a great place to spend an evening and the bar food was very good. The restaurant and cafe bistro are also just as you would hope and expect. The breakfast buffet was one of our favourite aspects of our stay...champagne breakfast...need I say more? The hotel is located outside of Bonn so if you don't have a car getting away can be painful but we jumped in a cab to explore the city...Beethoven's house was a special and unique experience. All in all, we loved our stay at the Steigenberger!

Outstanding hotel, but needs improvement

The restaurant food was superb! The best meal I have ever eaten.
However the towels in the bathroom were very thin and there was no bath, which I expected from such a quality hotel. There were no tea or coffee facilities in the room, which was a shame. I had also requested a double bed, but were given 2 singles pushed together which I wasn't impressed with. Overall the hotel is top notch, but the lack of these basic comforts pulled it down in our estimation

A brief night's stay wasn't enough to fully enjoy the location but the views from the terrace restaurant were absolutely stunning. We skipped breakfast as after having dined quite late we didn't think we would do justice to it at 26 Euros per head !! Just a little bit pricey perhaps.

Beautiful Hotel- Some Service Issues

Lovely hotel in a very unique setting high above the Rhine with spectacular views. Room was very good size, very clean, modern but classy. Overall the hotel is expensive but you expect that given the location and quality. We enjoyed our stay but would mention three issue points: 1) The hotel is quite isolated but on arrival we could not get booked for dinner. This was a major shock. However, eventually we were offered a table at a time which was suitable. Dinner was very good. 2) If the restaurant is full you cannot eat in the hotel Bistro as this closes at 6.30 pm. This seems silly and I would have thought the bistro could be used for simpler meals/young families.3) There had been a little morning rain although by the afternoon it was a lovely warm sunny day. We asked for tea on the Bistro terrace to enjoy the wonderful view but were told this was not possible as the terrace was closed by management order due to the wet. This was ridiculous as it was now very warm and dry and if a guest asks for tea on the terrace then that's what they should get. Management should address. However, in overall terms a very nice stay.

The hotel is located at a beautiful location on top of a private hill and has an English speaking staff. My only concern was the renovation they were doing left a smell of paint everywhere. The restaurant had a great menu though we did not try it out and breakfast was found in a neighboring town bakery thanks to the hotels 26 euro a person price.

Fantastic Hotel

The Steinberger Grandhotel is an excellent hotel in a magnificent setting overlooking the Rhein Valley. The staff were welcoming, friendly and the hotel grand and really well done. The rooms (non suite) are massive and easily feel like a suite in any other hotel. We will return, and am looking forward to it already.

A wonderful hotel overlooking the Rhein. They have an exchange program with Canadian Universities for their wait staff which was wonderful for all involved. The hotel was a pleasant respite from staying in European business class hotels. We would definitely go back for a longer stay. Also has a wonderful ballroom and would be a fantastic destination wedding location and a wonderful site for business conferences.

Great grande dame hotel.

This hotel is on the top of a high hill over looking the Rhine and Bonn. If you want to walk the city not your hotel but if your looking for a top notch hotel with absolutely tons of character, excellent service and rooms, and breathtaking views this is the hotel. Beats the chain hotels by miles. Room and service were spectacular. As said earlier you cant walk to the city but short 15 minute cab ride most of it going doing the hill but it is worth it.

Beautiful hotel, but...

They charge for parking, even though they are in the middle of nowhere, charge very high rates for the internet, don't offer it in their lobby or business center as a courtesy and are RUDE in the restaurant. Even though we went to the Bistro with plenty of time before closing, they refused to seat us. Then they forced us to go to the upscale restaurant instead for the small salad I ordered. Because we weren't ordering much, they were not interested in providing service and made me wait over 1/2 hour to get my small salad. I finally went to another waiter and asked if he would help our waiter to get my salad served. Once I was done, we asked our waiter for the check, which he did not bring. Instead, he went around cleaning other tables and setting silverware and napkins, forcing us to wait yet again. It was insulting to be treated like that and I would never go there again even though the hotel is beautiful.

Lovely hotel with great views over the Rhine and a very impressive list of previous guests including Queen Elizabeth, US and Russian Presidents, Nelson Mandella etc. More for big company and International meetings than a private holiday.
We paid extra for a Rhine view room, which was lovely by day and night. Without this view, we thought it would be disappointing.
The breakfast buffet and dinner were good but very expensive.
The pool was quite small and basic with no changing room, so if you want a swim be prepared to walk through Reception and groups of well dressed conference delegates in your white dressing gown and flip-flops.

Schönes Luxushotel in Königswinter

Das Grandhotel ist ein wunderschönes Hotel in Königswinter. Das Zimmer war fantastisch. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Ausblick gebucht. Die Sicht auf den Rhein war herrlich. Das Frühstück war ebenfalls super. Es hat uns an nichts gefehlt! Das Personal war freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen.

Zimmer sind sehr schön und sauber. Das Personal manchmal ein bisschen angespannt (Frühstück). Getränkepreise im Restaurant überzogen (7,50 für ein 0,5er Pils). Spabereich viel zu kalt. Keine Decken. Auch Personal anwesend. Permanent wurde man von anderen Gästen gefragt, wo es denn Handtücher gäbe … Dampfbad quasi nicht nutzbar, da zu kalt. Am Pool steht was von angeblichen 28 Grad, aber davon kann keine Rede sein … gerade hier ist wirklich noch Luft nach oben bei den Preisen …

Einfach toll!

Unser Aufenthalt im Steigenberger Icon auf dem Petersberg war wirklich hervorragend. Die Lage des Hotels auf dem Berg mit Aussicht, Komfort, Zimmereinrichtung und -ausstattung und vor allem Service und Freundlichkeit der Mitarbeiter haben unsere Reise zu einem besonderen Erlebnis gemacht. Auch die Speisen im Restaurant und das Frühstücksbuffet waren großartig. Sehr empfehlenswert

Vi havde et fantastisk ophold på hotellet. Hotellet ligger helt perfekt for et par dages ophold. Der er mulighed både for vandreture og for at smage på vin i området. Vi havde værelse med udsigt over Rhinen, men der også udsigt fra restauranterne. Service er i top og personalet er meget hjælpsomme. Hotellets restauranter er også gode.

Hotel was nice but not at the level of my expectations. I It’s location is nice but I expected it to have abundant of historical decorations but it was more like a nor al hotel.
Breakfast coffee tasted like low cost supermarket ones and food quality was so so… but price was 2 times more than standard hotels (I think it was like 30euros).
Hotel is not worth the price for me and will not be back again at this price level.

Das Frühstück ist fantastisch, abgesehen vom Brot und den Brötchen, die waren alle 3 Male absolut trocken. Das Abendessen im Hotel ist ebenso gut, allerdings für die Menge etwas überteuert. Aufgrund der Lage und wenigen Möglichkeiten in der näheren Umgebung, kann es sich das Hotel leider erlauben.

Sehr schönes Hotel mit sehr freundlichem Personal. Der SPA-Bereich ist klein. Nur zwei kleine Saunas in die jeweils nur 2 Personen rein gehen dürfen-Corona bedingt. Frühstück sehr lecker und ausgewogen

Sehr schönes Hotel ohne gutes Restaurant

Das Hotel liegt malerisch auf dem Petersberg. Wir hatten ein schönes de luxe Zimmer zum Park hin. Der Spa Bereich war ganz ok, mit schöner Aussicht auf den Rhein, war aber etwas klein. Ich kann das Hotel selbst eigentlich sehr empfehlen, ein Wermutstropfen aber stellt das Restaurant dar. Die Räumlichkeiten selbst sind sehr ansprechend und die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Allein das Essen war so schlecht, dass wir die nächsten Tage lieber einige km gefahren sind als dort noch ein weiteres mal zu essen. Wir haben noch nie in einem vergleichbaren Hotel so schlecht gegessen.

Unser Aufenthalt im Steigenberger war sehr angenehm trotz der derzeitigen Situation. Das Zimmer war schön und sauber. Im ganzen Zimmer sind in der Decke Lautsprecher eingebaut, man konnte also Beispielsweise auch beim duschen Musik hören. Der Spa Bereich war erholsam und sauber, es gibt einen Ruheraum in den man ausweichen kann falls einem die Lautstärke am Pool zu laut wird. Wir empfehlen eine Anreise mit dem Auto, da man sonst nur durch eine Wanderstrecke oder eine Straße den Berg rauf oder runter kommt und diese Strecke sich wirklich zieht. Man kann sich aber auch an der Rezeption ein Taxi rufen lassen.
Das Personal war höflich und zuvorkommend.

Die Lage des Hotels ist schon hervorragend .Der 5 Sterne Blick auf das Rheintal ist bemerkenswert.
Wir hatten ein ruhiges und bequemes Zimmer .Die Betten waren hervorragend.Sauberkeit und Ruhe im Hotel .
Das Hotel strahlt sehr viel Stil und Eleganz aus. Man spürt förmlich die historischen Ereignisse, die dort stattgefunden haben.
Erwartungen an ein Haus dieser Kategorie vollends erfüllt!

Unser Hotel des Jahres 2020

Für uns war es das Hotel des Jahres. Angefangen von der beeindruckenden Geschichte des Areals und des Hotels über die stets freundlichen Mitarbeiter*innen der Unterkunft war dieser Aufenthalt ein Erlebnis. Das Hotel verfügt über einen wunderbaren Weitblick über den Rhein. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall ein Zimmer mit Rheinblick zu buchen. Das Zimmer war sehr großzügig und luxuriös ausgestattet. Das Badezimmer mit der begehbaren Dusche ist wunderbar. Den Charme des gesamten Hauses kann man nicht beschreiben, den muss man erlegen.
Das Fühstück war sehr gut und trotz Pandemie wurde ein Buffet angeboten. Bei den Speisen bleibt kein Wunsch offen. Auch der Service einfach toll. Nette, freundliche und dennoch nicht zu abgehobenes Personal.
Für das Auto ist sowohl auf dem Gelände als auch in der Garage genügend Raum vorhanden.
Wir hoffen, dass wir bald wieder Gast sind.
