This hotel located in a very good location. Good hot water, A/C, needs more English channels. The breakfast is very good, more choices, staff always there to help you. Always we got good thick new towels. Front desk lady arranged a vehicle for us to go to Morndava and Kindley forest for reasonable price. Our driver Freddi took care of us finding hotels and driving safely. We had another driver also for the Lemur Park. We had upgrade and gifts. Second time or room carpet needs shampooing. We will stay again in this hotel!

It is very important to understand that this hotel has an old and the new part of the hotel. With Expedia booking I was booked in the old part of the hotel, which is pretty old and it doesn't deserve to be on your booking page. Having said that I was unlucky/lucky that I didn't have water for the first evening and night and after that incident they moved me into the new part of the hotel, which was pretty nice.
What Expedia needs to assure is that your bookings are always related to the new part of the hotel, as the old part isn't recommended at all, hence my average ratings for everything.

Location ok. Amenities are good. But old and worn out pillow cases, worn out pillows, old and stained bed sheets. Front office told me I was on Bed only while I had booked BB only for them to confirm that I was indeed on BB on check out and I had already made my own alternative arrangements for breakfast during the week.

Good value for the price

Good accommodations as it is close to a couple of good restaurants. The breakfast was great but the dinner food was very poor. The fitness center and spa were also good. The major downside were the prostitutes that hung out in the bar area and constantly bothered me.

My room was changed 4 times. 3 times was due to not having hot water in the room. 1st day I went down for breakfast at 10 and was told it's closed, although the website says 10:30.

Very dated hotel: terrible customer service!

I read about the poor condition of their business rooms, so I booked one of their superior rooms when I first stayed for one night: it was 'dated' but in reasonable condition with a shower only.

On that basis, when returning to the capital after two weeks on the road, I booked a superior room again. The check-in experience was poor. I was given a superior room, (as per photo), and asked to change room. I was told by the receptionist, whom checked me in, that they were full and I could change rooms the following day to a better superior room - by the way, they are all 'dated' and in poor condition.

I ordered room service and the pizza and the sautéed potatoes were not cooked: the restaurant manager came to my room and 'as a solution' offered to take it away and remove them from my bill: at check-out, I found the potatoes on my bill...I had to explain this to the 'grumpy' receptionist: she begrudgingly removed them from my bill.

The laundry...don't get me started: DO NOT get your laundry done here. They charge a lot more than other hotels...my clothes, (mainly shirts), were still stained with dirt!

I hear you say...\"Why not speak with a manager?\"

From the time I checked in, I was told there was no duty manager...on a busy weekend!

I left numerous messages for a manager to call me anyway, once they were on duty. I checked out on a 'week day' and I still was not contacted by a manager.

The reason the hotel's customer experience is so poor, is because of poor management!

The property is well located and has pretty reasonable facilities. However, there are way too many beggars right outside the hotel and it is impossible to enter or exit the hotel without an army of them descending on you.Sadly, the hotel does nothing about this. Only because of this i will not stay here again.

This hotel is in dire need of an upgrade and also needs to do something about making sure that the prostitutes are kept outside and not allowed in the bar area. Breakfast was not great either to put it mildly.

Absolutely the worst hotel in Tana...Stay elsewhere, there are hotels nearby that are substantially better. The service level is so bad at this hotel, don't stay here! You will be very dissappointed with the stay.

Good for Tana

A huge hotel right in the centre of Tana. Room was pretty good and very big but this was the only place in my 4 week stay in Madagascar where I was bitten by mosquitos as there was no net or coil. Pool and spa are nice. I was travelling alone and hotel was very impersonal and didn't really feel safe to venture far from.the hotel without a driver. Staff were friendly and helped book a driver but didn't have many suggestions of things to do or offer any maps or info about Tana or hotel.
Lots of food and drink options. Patisserie was bar far the best.
Overall probably one of the best in Tana but wouldn't recommend for solo travlers or a long stay.

The Hotel Colbert is a true gem in the heart of Antananarivo. The staff is more than accommodating and the restaurants in the hotel are the best in all of the city. Don't forget to relax in their spa after a long flight. Excellent!

Great location, but not the best value for money

I stayed in the new section of the hotel, which was a free \"upgrade\" from the room originally booked, but the room was musty and bot of us were sneezing a lot. Sheets and pillows were not comfortable and also had a musty smell. These are small areas for the hotel to improve on, to truly deserve their 4-star rating. This is a 2.5-star hotel in my book, when compared to many 3 and 4-star hotels I have stayed in. Therefore, not the best value for money but great location and good service from all the staff.

Bright and spacious rooms in a lovely, old hotel

The rooms with balconies and a city view are very spacious and comfortable with a very large double bed, Bright and airy. A very friendly hotel. There is a patisserie as part of the hotel which sells cakes and pastries to die for. Down below there is a lovely heated swimming pool and sauna etc.., all free of charge. A very good location. I have stayed in the Hotel Colbert on 28 occasions now - the only place to stay. Have tried others but none come near to the Colbert....

Ensure you get the room you have booked...

I booked and paid for a large room with city views... I was given a small claustrophobic room with a street view. Luckily I have stayed at the Colbert 27 times before, so I know my rooms, so I complained and was given the room I had booked and paid for. A lovely hotel, but just ensure you get a room with a city view... A swim in the underground heated pool is recommended...

I received a papaya welcome drink when I arrived. I was given a room in the older wing that did not have an elevator. The TV had a very limited number of channels. The toilet area was very narrow, although the bathroom was spacious. The bed was comfortable. It was noisy outside at night. The complimentary bottle of water in the room is free for only the first day of your stay, which was disappointing.

Rowdy manager.

Manager woman at reception was not welcoming (no smile, rude attitude). Every time I had to interact with her during my stay was not a good experience. Booked room was announced as an Business and 30m2, NOT SO it was a standard refurbished room at 25m2. Also room was not secured (I've opened the external patio door by forcing it gently); was told all rooms at this level had same security issues (all external balcony are linked together...). Asked to change rooms since I had book for more than a week, no excuses or apologies and I had to move my luggage by myself but I got another room (an older one not refurbished at 30m2). All other staff were really eager to please and help you out which saved my stay. One night it was pouring outside, went to the front office for an umbrella since I saw other clients doing the same; again that same manager gave me an old one that was already broken (no luck for me!). LaFougere restaurant (hotel) is OK but others are located near and are cost/quality oriented. The Sunday brunch is over rated and pricy. There the same manager (again no smile and no bon appetit) brought me two halves crayfish that was from different fishes and one part was rotten (intended from her?). Again no apologies and I had to fight the bill. I've lived for 4 years in Madagascar and it was the first time that I was confronted to such a rowdy manager (racist?). Colbert 4 stars? No way, but the hotel deserve a better manager that is more professional.

The room was very small with a old broken lounge chair and the toilet moved when you sat on it,as that was broken also.
The room card had to be reset everytime
There was no apology, the reception staff just blamed me for putting the near my phone.
At check inn the receptionist did mentioned that we booked through Expedia and I wonder if that was the reason we got room # 1
The bar staff wear very professional and friendy.

The hotel was nicer than I expected. The neighborhood was a little sketchy at night but during the day provides access to local sites and culture.The beds are a bit old and outdated but great Wi-Fi and great breakfast buffet.

Hotel has 2 sections. Upon check in they don't tell u. U go to your room n find out it's totally dated. We changed room 2x. N would had changed again but was too tired returning from touring all day. The AC didn't work at all. Complaint numerous times nothing was done. They suggested moving us after we kept complaining. Other than that, the hotel is pretty great. Awesome views from the rooms. The bakery next door is awesome so is the restaurant at the hotel. Great staff!

Booked a Junior suite, which was not worth it. Chairs in room were positively uncomfortable so ended up resting on bed anyway.
No WiFi in room, had to go to reception in different wing for Internet.
And no option of Mosquito net - only hotel in Mad that did not have them (and were needed).

A aucun moment j’ai été prévenu que le spa et la piscine n’étaient pas accessibles. Et l’hôtel est en travaux, le bruit, l’odeur et la poussière en plus problème de wifi. +24h sans connexion
Si j’avais su je ne serai pas venu à cet hôtel.
Le personnel était agréable et souriant.

Il y a eu une longue interruption de l’approvisionnement en eau dans plusieurs secteurs de l’hôtel due à des travaux sans que la direction ne propose des solutions aux clients affectés. Inadmissible! Ensuite l’eau du robinet était parfois sale.
