Rustic Charm! Lovely experience! Don’t be put off by some of the negative reviews- especially the ones about luggage support and service. The service was perfect. There’s much to love about this place. It’s not a luxury resort so if that’s what you’re after this is not your place but it’s a unique property, quaint, charming and cozy in a scenic, quiet area away from everything. Our room was nicer than expected and comfortable. Overall it was better than expected. The restaurant was actually not as good as expected although it’s charming and dry busy. We had dinner there two nights in a row. One night the service was great. The second night it was abysmal. The food was unremarkable but very inexpensive.

We loved our stay at Su Gologone. It felt in the middle of nowhere, which was very cool, and had a fun, colorful, historical spirit. The staff were kind and very helpful, the pool was beautiful and relaxing. There were so many activities at the property, and they can help make other reservations in the area (def recommend a boat trip). The dinner in the garden was unforgettable, and we enjoyed it so much we had dinner in their other restaurant another night. Breakfast was generous and delicious. There was incredible art and museum-quality artifacts everywhere. I will say the beds were quite hard, and the bathrooms could use a little updating, but everything was clean and thoughtfully supplied. Would absolutely recommend!

It’s quite a unique property nestled up at the foot of the mountains. It feels like being in Mexico - both for the vegetation and the architecture. The bar up the hill is great and the nighttime patio dining is very convivial. Notable were the pastas. Staff was also super friendly. We also had great massages. One thing to note is that the property seems a bit tired. The photos definitely show better than the reality. The AC in our room didn’t really work either. Still recommend going for a couple nights. It will be a memorable experience!

Honestly, if you like a fancy farm looking at their garden and chicken coop, its great. Theres a library with old books and a store selling plates glassware and painted rocks for pretty high prices but take pride that it was made by the locals! Great! Just doesn’t justify the $400 price. This place is good for wealthy old people who want to feel closer to Sardinian nature without the actual work.

A feast for the eyes!

Amazing! Very traditional Sardinian decor. Wonderful cozy dining room with open fire cooking of the meats. Beautiful view from the breakfast room overlooking the pool. Nice selection for breakfast. The property is just beautiful. Interesting artwork throughout. pool area is beautiful. So many areas to sit throughout the property. I would highly recommend!

This hotel was so unique, very arty and like staying in a private villa. When we arrived there was a huge wedding party at the hotel, but this didn’t stop the reception staff checking us in efficiently and spending time with us to explain the hotel and show us to our room, they even fetched the suitcases from the car and delivered them to our room. I’d asked for a room on an upper floor with a balcony and that is exactly what I got. A lovely room, spotless with a large bathroom. Room 50 was ideal for us, nice sunny balcony, coffee machine and a basket with pool towels was waiting for us.There are a lot of steps in this hotel, so be mindful if you have trouble with steps. The best thing to do is explore the hotel as there are so many little nooks to hide away in and the colours of cushions etc in different areas is lovely. They even have a garden where they grow veg that you can walk round and the champagne bar at dusk is a must. the bed was big and comfortable and housekeeping were fantastic, never even saw them come and go, very efficient. The pool area was quite, no trouble getting sun beds. Good choice of breakfast items, cold buffet only, no hot food. We only stayed two nights, but would love to stay longer to explore more of the surrounding area and the hotel! So we will definitely be back, such a friendly hotel, can’t wait.

Set in the mountain region of Sardinia, this unique and beautiful property offers premium service and amenities (albeit at a premium price). The breakfast buffet is excellent and the dinner in the restaurant superb (if lacking a bit of variation day-to-day). Loved all the different areas to discover, with 3 separate bars all with a different vibe, and many different garden/relaxation areas tucked away around the property. Has a gym and spa (although we didn't use these amenities).

Only negative is that the pool area could do with updating - grass right up to the pool edge doesn't really work as becomes patchy turning to small, but annoying when you step into, muddy areas (would be better tiled for the sunbeds, with grass further outside that). The Jacuzzi was gritty (likely due to detritus picked up from grassy areas) but also cold (which defeats the object of a Jacuzzi IMHO).

Overall though I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel for a 2 or 3 night stay - first class.

If you are looking for luxury and relaxation off the beaten path, this is the place. If you don’t like nature including mosquitos don’t come here.

I normally cannot stay still on vacation and always try to leave the hotel- not here, this hotel is a completely different experience and if your in Sardinia, worth a 3 night stay.

I would do 3 days here and 2 nights on the water at Cala Gagone about a one hour drive- at Cala Ganone rent a small boat for a few hours, and make sure you have goggles. We didn’t stay at Cala Galone but took a day trip from Su Galone.

The property was beautiful however it is in great neeed of anupgrade. The beds and pillows are 2 star quality at best. We got a dark room in the back which was a junior suite for 3 of us. The room itself was nicely decorated and spacious. The window had been left open so the room was filled with flies and mosquitos (until we killed them all). The shower is small and tubular and definitely needs to be replaced.
The restaurant for breakfast and dinner was very nice. No need to do the inclusive dinner since you can order ala Carte.
The pool was nice but the hours are 9:30-7:30. Why open so late and end so early. We usually didn’t get back from excursions til 7 and there were still hours of sunlight left.
They mention that it is an experience hotel, but then there doesn’t seem to be much info available on what to do. The only few things they know about were run thru the hotel for a min of $100/person. There are many good things to do in the area that don’t cost so much. I thought they also could have offered at least one complementary activity a night -ie wine tasting or olive oil tasting.
Overall I am glad we went there since we were able to see the beauty of some of the mountain towns. We went to Cala Gonone one day and hiked to the beach and took a boat back (the hotel gave us incorrect info on this excursion. We also rented e mtn bikes and road up a beautiful valley near the hotel. Next time we would stay in Cala Gonone since we paid too much for this experience.

Absolutely Stunning Hotel

A perfect hotel to relax and unwind in a beautiful setting.

Every inch of the hotel has been lovingly considered and it really feels warm and welcoming. From the hidden hideout seating everywhere to the homegrown food grown on site.

Couldn't recommend it enough, we thought we would just use it as a base to explore the area but ended up spending the whole time there, really was an amazing space.

The hotel was very pretty, lots of little cute books and areas for lounging. The grounds need some maintaining but it adds to the charm and I am easy to please. Breakfast buffet had many options and was delicious. Our room was large as we were traveling with our children, so they provided us with a roll away bed for 1. We had a small balcony that was nice. I would say only downfall for us which may not be for others is there was no shower in our room. Only a bath. There are lots of stairs to get to the rooms, so I would recommend your luggage being light. The location is up in the mountains so you do have to rent a car to get anywhere. There is a near by natural spring that provides a nice place to hike.
We were here for our cousins weddding and her room was gorgeous, with 2 separate areas and a large balcony with tub. And they did a beautiful job with the reception.

Basically very nice place. Had cold shower first night. Kettle plug was faulty so couldn't make coffee. Asked three times why jacuzzi was cold and each time was told would look into it and nothing was done. Not friendly at all if disabled or elderly. One of party had broken foot and other pending back surgery - lots of steps

Perfect for our 20th anniversary

Booked on the basis of a recommendation in The Telegraph, we were looking for somewhere to relax, enjoy great food and explore Sardinia for the 1st time. Although bigger than expected the hotel has lots of hidden places to explore, a great pool (bit chilly) and was very well-placed to visit beaches near Cala Gonone (bit of a detour via Oliena though because of a bridge out on the way to Dorgali).
We were on a B&B rate but ate here every night because the food and atmosphere (very attentive staff) was so good.
The room we were in (Junior Suite) was spacious, but the balcony didn't really have a view other than of trees. Given the luxuriant growth around the hotel, I'm not sure many rooms do, which is a shame given the vistas. However the Bar Tableau made up for that.

Perfect spot for relaxation

The restaurant is nice.

The bars were closed when we visited due to rain.

The veranda was lovely for watching the sunset.

It's quirky. Pretty environment.

Customer service could be improved by not allowing customers to wait over an hour for an iron!

The facilities are outdated apart from the espresso machine in the room is fab.

There is a national park literally on its door step that isn't advertised by the hotel. We had a lovely walk there and looked Byrne national monument - small cave filled with emerald green water (not swimming allowed though).

Good choice for breakfasts although it's bedlam! My tea was removed as I got up to get food as they were trying to clear our table for the next guests.

Forces relaxation as there is not much to do except drink, eat, walk and read! Perfect.

The outdoor pool is freezing.

Wonderful hotel in beautiful grounds against the stunning backdrop of the mountains. The attention to detail through flowers, painted stones and cushions made it really special. Our room was clean and welcoming and the bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, though quite pricey. Great location for getting out and seeing the countryside.

WHAT A PLACE!!!!

Wonderful hotel and stay. Everything from the rooms to the grounds to the food are absolutely fantastic. The area is fascinating to explore and gorgeous.

One thing to note - there is currently a bridge out right by the hotel that makes Google Maps go a little bit wonky. It also makes it take about 20 minutes longer to reach the beach. Not a huge deal but it's something to conscious of as it can lead to some stressful driving if you're not careful.

Overall a good stay, however things they need to improve on include: Internet is only available in the main areas howerver very slow and unreliable. Room was OK, beds are rock hard and not comfortable at all and there is only an old bath in the room. Also the walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors talking or caught at night.

Very good apart from poor wifi, which was slow and only available in the lobby (not now up to muster for a hotel of this quality). Re food, the cooking time of boiled eggs was quite variable, sometimes hard-boiled and sometimes quite under-cooked, and tit was remarkably difficult to get any salt out of the salt cellars. Antipasta was great, pasta was good, the main dishes underwhelming (rather dry and/or tasteless meat) and without vegetables unless ordered as a side dish at 8 euros each, and the desert unimaginative (lots of variations on cream and sponge). But the staff generally were absolutely charming. So alpha minus, I think.

Lovely time but hotel is getting tired

Overall we had a lovely stay but the hotel is getting a bit tired in places. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and some areas of the hotel are really stunning eg the white sunset terrace with outstanding views (although watch out for the cactus needles!). Some areas are very tired however eg the tennis court, and the grass around the pool area makes it feel a bit dilapidated. It definitely needs a bit of a refresh and they should concentrate on the areas they are good at and not try to do too much as they are spreading themselves too thinly st the moment.

Do not be fooled! Go elsewhere

This is not a boutique hotel as it appears in the photos. It is a mass market hotel with 100's of people in the resort. The swimming pool looks like a public pool where you might catch verroca or two. The food is average and overpriced (20eur for a plate of buffet cold starters or 5eur for a can of coke, really?). The staff are not personal in anyway. For the wifi you have to get a 24hour access ticket and the wifi does not work in the bedrooms, it is also very slow. I would not return. I also stayed at Hotel vale del rei and Lanthia, both are a lot better.

Four nights was just not enough !

What a wonderful place ~ so quirky and always somewhere new to discover so no need to leave Su Gologone. Lovely outdoor seating areas and bars, a beautiful open sided breakfast room overlooking the swimming pool and the view beyond. Set in dramatic scenery at the foot of the Sopramonte range and close to the largest natural spring in Italy.
A truly wonderful place that we hope to visit again for a longer period.

Beautiful hotel hidden in gorgeous countryside

We stayed for seven nights at the beginning of April. We wanted somewhere which would serve as a base from which to explore the east side of the island. We wanted the hotel to be a quite retreat to enjoy in the morning and evenings. It was just what we wanted.

The hotel is beautiful and set in gorgeous countryside. No corner has been neglected. There is no end of interesting things to explore and discover. Of particular interest is the bars and restaurant which I highly recommend.

Su Gologone Hotel

The hotel was amazing ! We stayed for 10 days as a family of 3 and I could not fault anything. The setting was spectacular, the food was fantastic and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
This hotel is different to a standard Hilton or Marriott and that was what we hoped for and particularly liked when we were there. The pool was great - no need to fight to get a sunbed ! The bars were excellent and the restaurant choices and quality were exceptional. I read reviews before I booked the hotel and they were overwhelmingly positive but with the odd negative review. For those people that were negative all I can think is that these people do not like something unique or they prefer the blandness of a typical 4 star standard hotel. The hotel is probably more appropriate for adults and/or older children and if you struggle with steps this may not be the best hotel for you as there are lots. In conclusion we had an amazing stay and I would strongly recommend this hotel.

Nice enough, but not as advertised

This is a small country hotel on a island full of sunshine. Rooms were spotless and our junior suite, suited as well as it was light and airy with super views and very private. This is not the same for other rooms which seem to be tucked away under trees etc, so no view at all. Our balcony was very small, space for two chairs and nothing else - great view over the valley though.
Do not expect the facilities advertised to be available. This hotel promises a lot and doesn't deliver. During our stay there were no painting classes, drawing classes, wine cellar not open, bread nest not open. Very disappointing.
Inside the hotel is spotless. Outside more care is needed. Jacuzzi water is murky, cold and full of tree debris - not aromatic and scented as described. Pillows for the pool loungers are a nice touch, unfortunately they are very very grubby. Pool area while nice is generally in need of lot's of TLC.
Staff are friendly and helpful, when asked for something. But it is one of those hotels were you have to ask all the time. Especially at breakfast, where a lovely spread is let down by consistently empty platters, running out of eggs, bread etc etc. So it's a bit of hard work being a guest!
So if you are prepared to go with the flow, enjoy the quiet countryside then you'll probably enjoy it here.

Not Just an Oasis in the Mountains

If you're driving in central Sardinia, there's not a lot of choice in the high end hotel market and Su Golgone is a real gem. Room was beautiful but a bit of a trek to as the rooms are layered down the hillside. Handicapped visitors might want to think about this, but then again we found that most of Sardinia was not really wheelchair friendly. Room had a beautiful bed and huge bathroom with lots of local touches. Internet seems to be in lobby only which they might want to upgrade.

There's not much choice in restaurants in the area, so it's good the restaurant was excellent, if a little busy. The specialty is suckling pig, roasted on a spit the fireplace there - don't miss that. The antipasti at Euro 15 seemed a bit high. Apparently it was a buffet - which in my blindness I couldn't find. When I did find it after the meal - holy cow - what a spread! You could certainly make a meal of it and skip everything else. The breakfast buffet was in the same location and just as extensive.

We only stayed one night and wished we had done longer. There's a lot of day trips and excursions to be done in the mountains there and we barely scratched the surface.

Isolated boutique hotel in Sardinia

I managed to incur a sprained ankle in the hotel grounds because of a missing tile. I ended up with a cast and crutches. The hotel is not suitable at all for people with reduced mobility because of its endless stairs and steps and uneven tiling, and the absence of any lift.

We had a fantastic time at Su Gologone, it was an inspiration, fantastic owner Giovanna, amazing staff Massimo what a superstar and Rita and all the staff, this is a hotel that is relaxed with itself and that rubs off. Well worth the trip and hope you have as great a time as we did.

Unique Charm in a spectacular setting

Hotel Su Gologone deserves its inclusion in lists of the World's Best Small Hotels. This rambling group of stucco buildings surrounded by lush flowering plants is filled with displays of interesting local art and antique embroidered items. The staff is very welcoming and willing to accommodate any request. My room had a lovely four poster bed facing double french doors that opened to a balcony with a garden view. The adjoining creatively tiled bath had every amenity. The food was good (elaborate antipasti & breakfast buffets) but didn't rise to the level of a true gourmet experience. The suckling pigs roasted in the dining room's fireplace were delicious but other regional dishes were just okay. Overall, the atmosphere can't be beat as a romantic getaway or as a special corporate retreat experience. The surrounding countryside includes spectacular limestone cliffs, caves and streams to explore. Truly a memorable experience.

Stunning Hotel

A beautiful hotel set in the mountains with stunning views. The hotel was friendly, very clean and the food was very good. Surperb roof top bars and terraces hidden in a cactus garden. We went in early May and we had all use of the facilties (gym etc) to ourselves.
You do need a car to stay here as there is nothing else around. Highly recommend

Great hotel for relaxation and local exploration

This is a very good hotel - its situated in the midst of mountains and countryside so ideally you will need a hire car to stay here. Our room (deluxe) was spacious and comfortable, cleaned and tidied every day. We found the staff very helpful e.g. they were happy to lend us towels on days out to the beach. The open air restaurant is delightful, overlooking open countryside and mountains. We were not disappointed by the food, excellent buffet breakfast and generous evening meals. Its not cheap to eat here but it is fulfilling. There's a large swimming pool as well, well maintaned and generally not too crowded bearing in mind we were there in early August. Would recommend going to Cala Gologne, take a boat along the amzing coastline, swim in the clear (bright) blue water. Also visit the Goruppo gorge and remains of bronze age villages whithin easy reach of the hotel though prepare yourself for some interesting drives.

En anläggning som verkar ha passerar \"bäst före datum\".
Personalen var alltid hjälpsam och trevlig men tyvärr verkar omsorgen för byggnaden och området svikta. Ledsamt att gå omkring och se förfallet. Orkar man inte med underhåll så är det bättre att lägga ner tennisbana, fotbollsplan, minigolf etc än att det ser övergivet ut.
Maten skulle vara traditionell men vi åt betydligt godare mat på andra ställen på Sardinien.

Un hôtel incroyablement beau, tant sur l’architecture, que sur les plantes et sur la décoration intérieure et extérieure.
Les chambres sont spacieuses, la piscine très grande et fort agréable.
Un seul petit bémol, le service du petit déjeuner manquait un peu de coordination, puisqu’on nous a proposé un service à table alors qu’il y avait également un buffet et nos boissons chaudes ont mis beaucoup de temps à arriver malgré le nombre de serveuses présentes dans la salle de restauration.

Eine besonders charmante und liebevoll eingerichtete Unterkunft, die wiederholt mit zunächst unerkannten Rückzugsorten überrascht. Für uns genauso wie wir es uns nach den Fotos/der Beschreibung vorgestellt hatten. Sehr freundliches Personal, gerade an der Rezeption - alle Sonderwünsche wurden erfüllt. Wir hatten ein schönes Zimmer mit Blick auf die Berge. Alles sauber und gepflegt. Zudem gibts jeden Abend kleinere Veranstaltungen/ein Unterhaltungsprogramm im Hotel.

Wenn man etwas bemängeln möchte, dann vielleicht, dass es keine Übersicht zu den einzelnen Hotelbereichen gab in denen sich auch die jeweiligen Öffnungszeiten (zB der Bar) befanden - so war es etwas schwieriger den Überblick über das Gelände und die Möglichkeiten zu bekommen.

We had a nice stay in Su Gologne. The food was great and the staff very hospitable. The place was a little empty the days before easter, and the hotel area is best suited for a littl warmer weather, when the spacious and very cool outdoor areas can be used a bit more, and the pool is opened. Après une petite route tortueuse, et à 40 min de Cala Gogone et de ses plages, vous trouverez ce magnifique hôtel.
Tout est conçu avec goût, charme, authenticité de la tradition et de l'artisanat sarde, de belles couleurs, une piscine magnifique. La cuisine est excellente, avec la viande faite dans la grande cheminée au feu de bois, le petit déjeuner très varié et un régal avec un très large choix de spécialités sardes.
Petit bémol sur le SPA.
Au final, un superbe établissement à recommander

Op onze rondreis door Sardinie verbleven we ook 3 nachten in Su Gologone. Het hotel is zeker zeer bijzonder. Het is een combinatie van hotel en kunstgalerij. Wij werden in onze hoge verwachtingen enigszins teleur gesteld, in het bijzonder in het aanbod van het restaurant. Mogelijk waren we al te sterk verwend door de Sardijnen op de andere locaties. Ondanks het feit dat het hotel zich wil positioneren in het topsegement van de markt is dat naar ons gevoel al enige jaren niet meer het geval. In een restaurant wil ik graag comfortabel zitten, maar de stoelen met rieten zittingen zijn zeer ongemakkelijk. De tafeltjes staan daarenboven zeer kort tegen elkaar. Het feit dat de antipasti uit een buffet worden genomen is naar ons gevoel benden het globale niveau van wat het hotel volgens zijn prijsklasse wil laten uitschijnen. Mogelijk laten anderen zich imponeren door het decor, maar in een tophotel zijn de prioriteiten : goede bedden, goede maaltijden. En dat kan beter. Ook evidente zaken als een goed werkende wifi overal in het hotel zijn anno 2018 toch normale vragen
