Fantastic hotel

The hotel is an old castle high up above the valley - how fantastic is that? Wonderful character with plenty to wander around and explore. We would have enjoyed the views from the rooftop terrace had the weather been a bit warmer but we enjoyed looking around the hotel and relaxing with a drink in the main central room. There was no bar as such but drinks were available from reception and we had a great meal in the restaurant. Good service throughout our stay.

Overall nice hotel, the breakfast was good and the view from the top is amazing. Parking is a little tight, staff very welcoming and accommodating. They do have an issue with flies, around the main entrance and on the roof. If you open the window in your room, the flies will find their way in.

Great location, the hostess was Amazing, gave us a tour through the castle, and told us their story. The room was comfy, and the food was amazing. Definitely we recommend staying in the Castle. Curiel is just 5 minutes drive, and is beautiful. Thank you for a nice stay!

We stayed one night as the Castillo de Curiel on our way from Madrid to Vitoria. We loved the hotel, the staff we polite and helpful. The castle was beautiful and the appointed nicely. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel . The dinner was excellent and the breakfast was simple yet well done.

Great find

A little off the beaten track but well worth the journey. Loreta was fabulous as was Pascual.
Nothing was to much trouble. We had a lovely stay. Thank you. We ate in the restaurant and the food was amazing. Definitely would recommend and stay again.
Plus I got to practice my Spanish 😊

Stay in a castle, eat elsewhere

The hotel is a very unique place to stay. Our bedroom was spacious, and we enjoyed the antique decor. The room had a lovely view, and the view from the rooftop terrace is spectacular during the day and at night and especially at sunset. Front desk staff were helpful. The bathroom could definitely use some improvement: we didn't have hot water in the shower for the first day of our 2-day stay. Even when we did get hot water in the shower, the shower was unpleasant, with water spraying in all directions.

While we would recommend the hotel, we would not recommend the restaurant (aside from the breakfast included with your stay). The dinner we had was one of the worst we've ever had. We did the 3-course meal option for hotel guests and the steak was inedible. It was thin, rubbery, and dripping with grease. Truly disgusting. The rest of the food also just tasted like a grease bath with whatever substance had been prepared in it: potatoes, croquettes, lamb. I felt nauseous after eating dinner there.

pleasant overnight stop

used as a stopover on a long drive from northern France to visit friends in Southern Spain. After an horrendous drive, this was just what we needed. A little oasis of calm. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable and the welcoming bottle of wine was much appreciated. Wish we had a little longer to enjoy the pool

Castle not fit for a King

It’s not often we get to stay in a renovated castle, so that was a treat. We were a bit disappointed with the staff who could have been more helpful with bookings to the local wineries. Since it’s a small hotel it is minimally staffed. There is one amazing woman who basically does it all. We were pleased with their laundry service.

Nice stay during wine vacation

My girlfriend and I had a very nice stay at the castle while wine-touring. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, even with my poor Spanish. They helped me arrange an early check-in after an overnight flight, and they made several local calls to wineries and restaurants for me to make reservations. The castle and setting were beautiful - do yourself a favor and buy a bottle of Ribera and drink it on the roof at sunset - stunning views! Americans must understand, though, that this isn't like a US hotel. The shower was cramped, when I opened the windows for air, several flies came in as there were no screens and wifi was spotty. But if you are OK with the differences of traveling in Europe, you'll enjoy the charm and location of this place. Breakfast was a modest continental one, but fine for us. Parking was free and easy. The town of Curiel offers one tiny bar with a very limited selection, but a couple of wineries. We drove a rental car from Madrid - a very easy drive of 90 minutes.

Wonderful weekend getaway

Beautiful building and location, very easy drive to the various wineries in the area. Friendly and helpful staff, pleasant to handle any tours we wanted to book or with more accurate directions.

The breakfast spread was a bit sparse, and left us looking forward to a more sustaining lunch. We did not have dinner at the on-site restaurant, but on a late evening arrival, the staff was more than happy to accommodate us if we chose to dine

Definitely great for a romantic weekend getaway or on the way to more lively destinations - there's not much in terms of entertainment in the area.

The rooftop area and pool provided awesome views during the day and beautiful for stargazing at night. Blankets were provided in room for when we got chilly!

Would definitely return to stay here if we decided to do another trip to the Ribero del Duero region, the other hotels may be more modern or posh - Real Castillo has all the same amenities in my opinion; the wi-fi however needs some work... but can you say you stayed in a real castle?!

This was a very cool experience - we rented a car which allowed us to stop here. The castle has been built fairly recently using the remains of the previous castle however it is full of antique furniture and \"old time\" decorations and architecture. They have a pool on the roof, the restaurant was lovely, the views were incredible and it was so affordable! By far, the coolest place we stayed on our trip, loved it!

Castle in Curiel

The first view of this castle is fantastic, as it is perched high on the hill over the little village of Curiel. The steep drive upwards is rewarded by the views across the valley. The reception from the staff is friendly and professional. We stayed in room number 3, which had a lovely little window looking out to the fields below. The roof top terrace and swimming pool is a bonus in the warm weather, and our room had comfortable beds. The dining room is beautiful and our food was cooked to perfection and accompanied by our choice if a lovely local red wine. We took a 20mins walk to the village and found a local bar next to the old church, where we sat and had a refreshing glass of wine and listened to the locals voicing their opinions on various matters. It was then time for the walk back up the hill to our hotel to enjoy our dinner.

Great place to stay, lots to see locally and a perfect place for wine buffs. Historians will love the tours of the local castle. The approach to the hotel can be tricky for inexperienced drivers and make sure your brakes are in good order.

Stayed for 2 nights. Steeped in history with lousy customer service. Leaking toilets, bad smell in bathroom, cold water or tepid at best. Booked king bed, given singles. Dining unremarkable, ordered tea and given hot water! Heating made a noise the entire time even when switched off. Water leaking in corridor, area rugs a complete hazard. Wineries in area were mainly closed and staff unhelpful at finding one open during a weekend. Hotel in serious need of a total remodel.

Love this little castle!

I truly love this little castle. This was our second trip here and it was just as special as we remembered. The staff makes you feel as if you’re at “home” and take care of everything you need. Peñafiel is the heart of the Ribera del Duero wine country so you are only a few minutes away from some of the best wineries in the world.

Converted and rehabbed castle outside of Penafiel. Great views. Can use as a base for exploring Ribera Duoro wine district. Food is okay, not excellent.

medieval castle - renovated

This is a rebuilt castle on a 10th century foundation, so it feels very special, on top of a steep hill. It is a bit isolated, but less than ten minutes from Penafiel. Very quite of course, nice rooms, wi-fi, a small swimming pool on top of the tower, nice restaurant, very unique.

Staying at the hotel in the castle was beautiful. The staff was willing and able to help with anything we needed . They explained the history of the hotel and made were incredibly accommodating. The restaurant was delicious for both dinner and breakfast.

Mi estancia en el Castillo de Curiel fue simplemente excepcional. Desde el momento en que llegué, la imponente estructura histórica me transportó a otra época, rodeada de paisajes espectaculares que reflejan la belleza de la Ribera del Duero. El ambiente combina perfectamente la majestuosidad medieval con las comodidades modernas, creando una experiencia única.

El personal fue increíblemente atento y cálido, asegurándose de que cada detalle de mi estancia fuera perfecto. Las habitaciones, elegantemente decoradas, ofrecen vistas panorámicas de los viñedos y el valle, proporcionando una atmósfera de paz y relajación inigualable.

El restaurante del castillo es un verdadero deleite gastronómico. Disfruté de una cena exquisita con maridaje de vinos locales, que destacó la riqueza culinaria de la región. Además, las actividades como visitas a bodegas cercanas y paseos por los alrededores hicieron que mi experiencia fuera aún más enriquecedora.

Solo estuvimos una noche, pero nos encantó. habitación cómoda, vistas espectaculares, restaurante con buena cocina. Decoración hecha con gusto. El personal de 10. Por poner alguna pega, desayuno bueno pero mejorable. En el baño habia bañera. Deberia tener una barra de agarre, por seguridad.

Lugar singular, poder dormir en un castillo de la edad media ( reconstruido) que guarda ese aroma de otra época.
El servicio perfecto, el desayuno fenomenal con todo lo necesario, una terraza con unas vistas inmejorables, el restaurante coqueto buena relacion precio calidad y luego un pueblo en su orilla que bien merece un paseo.
