I had a very disappointing experience during my recent stay at Novotel. I booked for just one night and was surprised to be charged an additional amount for what they labeled as “goodwill” items — specifically, 2 beers and a Toblerone chocolate. Not only was this unnecessary, but the charges were excessively high.

In my experience, most 3-star hotels offer small tokens of goodwill, such as complimentary snacks, water bottles, or even chocolates, without any additional charges. Even at 5-star properties like The Park, Hilton, and other international chains, I have never been billed for such basic gestures. Instead, those hotels focus on creating a positive guest experience by making customers feel valued.

This practice at Novotel felt awkward, misleading, and unprofessional. A goodwill item should never come with a hidden price tag, especially in a reputed hotel. Unfortunately, this left a very negative impression of the brand, and I would caution other travelers to be aware of such hidden charges.

Hotels should understand that true goodwill comes from hospitality, not from inflating the bill. Sadly, this stay at Novotel failed to meet even basic expectations.

Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price

I stayed here during a weekday visit and was quite underwhelmed. The hotel clearly shows its age—everything from the furniture to the overall ambience feels outdated. While the staff was friendly and helpful, that’s about the only positive I can highlight.

The beds were small and not very comfortable, and the bathroom was in poor condition with visible stains and a generally rundown feel. For the price they’re charging—which is at a five-star level—you’d expect much more in terms of comfort and quality. Honestly, it felt more like a 2.5-star experience.

Wouldn’t recommend unless they renovate and reprice accordingly.

The check in process was so terrible. Initially one gentlemen by name Adbul or Ahamed was there. After spending few minutes he said some one will takecare and left that place and moved to next counter. Then one Mr Lokesh came and he took nearly 10 minutes to give the room key. I asked him is there any issue in the booking and he said no. I told him that i am a silver member of Accor ALL and hardly any response from him. I stayed there only for couple of hours as i check in the Morning and then checked out. May be a proper training to them would help.

Honestly, it’s not the best. Definitely not worth 13k per night. The room’s condition was extremely modest. Reminded me one of those hopin-hop out commercial hotels. The bathroom is all stains and cracks on the walls etc. The bathroom curtain didn’t work and the switch was broken. The staff guy himself struggled to operate it.

But the service is really good. A couple of them didn’t know the etiquette but they didn’t seem disrespectful. It’s just that they weren’t trained well.…otherwise very good. Food is FABULOUS. Whoever managing the kitchen, deserves a raise.

Overall, it’s ok but unlikely to spend 13k per night for those rooms. Rather come by for lunch/breakfast.

There was thumping noise in the room till midnight on all 3 nights I stayed here. The hotel staff first said it’s from the banquet hall, then they changed their stance and said it’s from a INOX theatre right behind the hotel. It was apparent they cannot do
anything about it. So if you want to have a quite room and wish to sleep before the INOX has had its run till midnight, look for some place else. If putting up with a rumbling sound reverberating through the building is something that you like, this place has plenty of it.

Novotel Vizag is a great modern hotel. Rooms were clean and staff was fantastic. Special. Shout out to the front desk manager who was very accommodating to all our needs. Even though a very busy hotel, when staff remembers your name, you always feel special. Second shout out to the dining room manager who had an amazing and contagious smile at all times. Ask her to tell you about her hometown Darjaleen, famous for its tea and she beams with pride. Will definetly stay again.

I love the location and ambience. Liked room and it’s amenities. Food was good. Only 2 issues,
(1) Electrical switches is little confusing. Ex: Bathroom light switches are located somewhere else. Recommend to mark (sign) to locate the exact one
(2) Servers on the terrace restaurant are very slow. Taking too much time to deliver food. Also faced an issue while checking out (Kailas). He is not much knowledgeable. Took almost 30 minutes to figure out an issue with payment. Recommend to place someone who is more knowledgeable and more active one.
But overall Novotel is best

Worst experience in a 5 star hotel in my life.

On the first day, there was a dead fish swimming with me in the pool. No staff is around the pool to notice the dead fish and it took them time to react to mark the pool closed for maintenance.
The handicap/ family toilet health faucet was cut and broken. I took my son and was unable to clean him. I then took him to the make toilet and the flush knob was broken. This was fixed temporarily by the cleaner and the next day i found it broken again.
The in room dining were just not ready to serve my water in glass bottles as were available in the dining area. Took me a lot of arguments to get it done.

The front desk have complementary golf at the EastPoint golf club. It took them 12 hours and repeated reminders to give me a letter to take with me to the golf club, which i was told was completely free.

OH NO!!! It is not free and they dont know of any agreement. Upon calling the front desk they now tell me only Entry is free, WHILE THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE.

The managers are just clueless. its a worst place to stay... though the building and view is good, the staff are clueless.

There is no shower facility near the swimming pool... they have to walk on floor (slipping and falling health risk) to a rest room which was stinking the first day... then walk back on the wet floor.

I have given them feedback to place a mat and hope they'll act on it before disaster srtikes someone.

It is very near to the beach and in prime location.
But I didn't like the in room dining service. After the order is placed, the food came after 1.5hrs and it is too expensive.
The phone in the room didn't work properly when I wanted to call the other rooms.
And finally, the most important thing, WiFi did not work at all in my phone when I went to other floors or rooms where my other family members stayed.

Seriously disappointed with the service at this property. We planned this trip mainly for the staycation at the beach view hotel to get the 5 star service and booked the premium room. But the staff is very bad. We felt very disappointed by that. I have been to many other hotels and even the 3 star hotel would have the best customer service. Staff didn’t even treat us with respect and the room toileteries are not provided for the second night stay. Front desk didnt communicate properly with us about the stay and amenities that are there during my stay. Overall we felt disappointed for the price we paid. 500 dollars for 2 days is not at all worth for this location. I hope my review will help others decide on this property.

Wonderful experience. Clean, well designed, spacious room with breath taking view of the sea. The lobby, pool side, reception all very good. Only the service should be better and prompter - room service as well as the restaurants. Seems to be under-staffed, causing the patience to betray st times.
Overall experience was very very good and would like to visit again when the climate would be cooler than now.

This was a stay of two halves. The actual hotel itself was fine and the staff very nice. However the process of checking in was appalling. First they moved myself and two colleagues to another hotel without telling us. We arrived at the 'wrong' hotel and insisted on going to the Novotel. At the Novotel we were told that they had not received our booking confirmation from Hotels.com. Then they said they didn't have any rooms as people were ill and staying longer than planned. Finally they admitted they had rooms but were obviously trying to avoid upgrading us. At the end of a long journey, and at 1100 at night, this fiasco was not well received. I am fine with last minute changes. Sometimes things happen. However its very unprofessional to lie to your customers.

But Infrastructure and management needs to get better. Cards stopped working frequently. very inconvenient. had to go to lobby multiple times to reprogram it. Printer is not accessible. you got to email documents, then lobby would print them. Every time you go to collect print out, you have to stand in line ..that is time consuming and inconvenient.

Food Buffet, they got lot of options but taste can be better. some of the indian food i tried, honestly small hotels would do better job.
