This was not a great experience and represented poor value for money. The hotel seems to be a converted Masonic Lodge and has been subdivided into 'hotel rooms.' The welcome was friendly enough but the room was dingy and tired given the price. The TV did not work initially and it took the porter 10-15 mins to sort it out. The mattress was old and uncomfortable and I would have thrown the pillows out if they had been mine. Later, when I ventured into the bathroom, I found that one of the two lights flickered with a strobing effect which gave the impression of a scene from a horror movie. By leaving it on I was thankful that it eventually failed completely. During the night a number of guests came in late slamming doors culminating in some revellers arriving back clearly drunk as they proceeded to run up and down the stairs laughing whilst banging the doors. That was at 2 30am, so it was not a restful night. I could not wait to leave and would not dream of returning.

Within walking distance of the town centre. A bit dated, with creaky floorboards in the bedroom. My bed was very creaky too, and the mattress was uncomfortable - I could feel every spring. The shower door was difficult to close. The noise from the traffic in the road outside was very noisy - even throughout the night. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on that.

Old and in need of serious updating. Two bulbs broken, bed awkward to get in and out of. Bath leaking water. Hard towels. Dog excrement on door mat. Breakfast variety was good but slightly overcooked and mushrooms tasted strange. Otherwise staff were friendly and tried to put things right. Would have expected some form of compensation without the need for asking.

It was our wedding night, we told the staff before hand, when it came to checking in the gentleman was lovely but we didn’t expect to be out in a small and dark room with no air con and no exciting arrival (we were stood in wedding dress and suit) no congratulations or anything. We just got shipped off to the room. We wasn’t shown where we was going a fellow customer had to show us as they were next door.

We don’t expect a lot of course but a little something when being told on the phone that it was our wedding night would have been nice. We didn’t get spoken to on the way out we just checked out and went home. For the price for 1 night to have a “great experience” was a let down. For what we paid we thought we was going to get more and we was very disappointed. Again the gentleman was lovely who booked us in but the overall experience was disappointing especially for the money.

The chap on shift in the evening when we checked in was excellently helpful. It was a very hot night, so upon request he very quickly arranged for 2 fans for the room.

At breakfast, everything was neatly laid out, and anything that wasn't full was quickly topped up once we informed the staff.

Beds were comfortable, shower was fine

The only downside to the property is that it has a stale smell of smoke in the rooms (it's an old building, so the smoke is probably engrained in the brickwork)

A note for the Hotel staff: If you get an air mist humidifier and leave it active for a few days, it will reduce the musty smoke smell.

There was some confusion regarding the “breakfasts included” part of my booking on arrival. Reception paperwork indicated “room only”. I was asked to provide evidence and it was only due to me forwarding a screenshot to my partner showing bed & breakfast included, that fortunately I was believed.
We had to change rooms due to a damp, musty odour in the initial room but were offered an alternative, which was much better.
Highly recommend the Gluten Free options at breakfast. Andrea & Roy went above and beyond. Thank you.

The
this hotel is a little surprise. Doesn’t look much from the outside and not helped by being next to a disused building.
However, once you enter it is a very different experience. The hotel is lovely, well maintained and the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful.
We had a family room which was very good, though could do with some better quality bed linen. However, it wasn’t bad at all and we had a pleasant nights sleep.
Although we didn’t use it, the bar looked amazing and breakfast in the morning was lovely. Not 5* but given how much this hotel is, it far exceeds expectations.
If in Newark and you need a hotel, don’t give it a second thought and book.

Bad experience

Very poor hotel. University dormitory I was leaving in 20 years ago was about the same standard with the difference that it was £90 for a month, not for a day. Very noisy, flushing toilet waking you at 5am, I could hear phone ringing in the reception. Room number 2 is about 6sq meters. It is claustrophobic. I consider staying in this hotel as one of the life experience that changes you forever. Luckily I was there for two nights. Never again!

The mattress was the worst I've ever tried to sleep on, it was lumpy, dipped in the middle, if there were springs they've gone! I was going to sleep on the floor but the carpet didn't look too nice. I was shattered in the morning, I probably got an hours sleep and had a sore back and shoulder.
I told reception the mattress needs binning, along with the pillows that are old, cheap and lumpy! Not what you'd expect for £100 a night! Pay the extra and go elsewhere, as now I need to spend £50 on a chiropractor and had an uncomfortable and tiring 4.5 hour drive home.
They need air con too, the fan in the room was useless, I shut the curtains as the sun was on that side and the room was like a greenhouse upon check in.
Nice staff though and it wasn't noisy.

One of the poorest hotels I have ever stayed in.

Turning up at the hotel is not a very welcoming site. There is a derelict building next door. I had to park my car around the back of this - my first question to the receptionist was \"Is my car safe there?\". She replied positively. Entering the hotel you are met with a 70's time warp feeling and a smell of old cooking oil. There is also just a stale smell - nothing smelt fresh. It is dark, dingy and could do with a coat of new pain throughout. The stale smell continued to the block that my room was in and indead to my room. The pictures attached are of my room - stains on the bed linen, carpets and gruby shower.
I ordered fish and ships for my dinner. One taste of the fish and I knew that it was not fresh - it was definitly on the turn. I pointed this out to a lady, who said that the batter was a beer batter. No offer of alternative food or that I would not be charged for the food. You have to order your breakfast the night before. I went for the full breakfast. I was concerned because of my experience with the fish. The breakfast was delivered to my table by a man that had serious body odour issues (I smelt it the previouis night on him). It didn't help that he had his thumb squeezed on to my black pudding. So the BO and the thump inprint turned me off my food. As expected when I checked out my dinner the night before was on my bill. I queried this and it was taken off. I showed the receptionist the pictures and she took my email address and said she would show the manager.

Value for money compared to others in Newark

The hotel was welcoming and it had been refreshed since my last visit. The room was clean and the food, both breakfast and evening meal was wholesome and value for money (although there was no marmalade at breakfast)! I couldn't get the required programmes to work on the TV but this didn't matter because I had my laptop. Overall, the hotel is value for money and I would recommend it.

Oh dear. So outdated and the entire decor is old and tired. Grey net curtains and the Carpet needs a good clean!. We had a built in cupboard for a wardrobe which smelt damp so didnt use it. Big bathroom with an old corner shower cubicle with a manky old shower attachment. On arrival the first words spoken to me were \"Name?\" So i said hello!!. Breakfast was on preorder and unpleasant. Watery poached egg, burnt fried eggs. Overcooked beans. The most herby sausage ever with the most oniony hash brown ever so too many flavors on one plate. Whole place needs a complete makeover.

Helpful staff. Tired building.

The reviews for this hotel are mixed. The negative ones give a fair description of what to expect. On a positive note a lot of the staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel itself is tired and the room we were in, 40, definitely in need of an update. It is not a place to stay if you are sensitive to smell. We asked if there was a ground floor room. Our double was small with the bed against the wall. The shower was lukewarm. It was not a comfortable stay. Finally, at check out, I was asked to pay for the room. They could not find a record of my payment through Hotels.com! It was eventually resolved.

Visit to friends in Newark

The Hotel is in a very good location and able to walk to the town centre.

An issue with the Hotel room, Number 32 was that it was not double glazed and next to a very busy road. However, the biggest single issue was the exit fire door to the street which was not adjusted correctly. Everyone who left or entered caused the building to shake by the door slamming shut. Not good for sleep at 6.30 am

We took an evening meal in the restaurant with one meal being very nice, but the other meal supposedly a chicken and mushroom pie was made with pulled chicken and not at all good to eat.

Breakfast needed to be ordered the night before. My partner ordered beans on toast and the kitchen staff did not prepare the toast properly, it was soggy mess. The continental selection was very limited and extremely basic for the price

Finally, finding someone on the front desk was very very difficult and getting reception on the phone the same. No sign of my final bill and the payment was taken in my absence. Best Western is a major chain and is failing at this hotel. Shame it is in such good locatiom

Exceed expectations

We were a little bit hesitant as there are some mixed reviews online.

But we really enjoyed our stay. the decor is a little dated other than that. The room was clean had all the expected facilities and was warm even on a foggy december weekend.

One commenter mentioned the road noise. our room was in the annex facing London road and while it could benefit from better glazing the road noise didnt disturb our sleep.

Service was excellent. As was the breakfast

A bit sub-standard

Not a very god start. When I arrived there was no one in Reception and no way to contact them. The first impression as I went up to my single room was of a tired, not very clean stair carpet, and then a musty smell as I opened the door. This seemed to come from the shower. Food was OK, but a single slice of toast for breakfast and having to make coffee from a sachet was sub-standard. Probably wouldn't stay there again.

My stay overall was good, I don’t have many complaints. I had to upgrade my room to a family room at the last minute and they were helpful and made the transition stress free.

First thing I would say is to give the exterior to the site some TLC. The building directly next to the hotel on-site looks grim and as if it’s been abandoned for years. The parking does the job but again needs some cleaning and tidying up, looks very dodgy when you first enter.

My double bed was comfortable however the other two single beds weren’t. The mattresses on them were quite bad, could tell they were old and needed replacing.

The interior of the reception and the hotel room itself is very very dated, and looks cheap and gloomy. A modern touch would make a massive difference!!

Other than that the stay was good, room was a decent size, fairly comfortable and clean.

Dated hotel

The staff in this hotel are lovely and friendly.
The hotel is clean but very dated. Squeaky uncomfortable bed, a shower from the 70,s and furniture to match.
Due to Covid, breakfast had to be pre ordered, that proved very efficient, the only downside was inexplicably paper cups!’
We used this hotel as a stopover on the way to Whitby, and it served it’s purpose but one night enough

Best Western Deincourt Newark

The staff at the hotel are really friendly and helpful. Service is second to none. The room we had was big and comfortable. The breakfast was nice too. Lots of choice. I would definitely recommend this hotel as its not far from the town centre (5min drive). This hotel also has a large garden which was nice to sit out in and enjoy a cold drink (it was 28°C at the time)!

Good value for money.

Only spent one night but it was good value for money. Decided to go for the king bed and it was a good choice; very comfortable. The hotel is on a main road so a little noisy but it didn't interfere with a good night's sleep. Breakfast was included; we could choose to have it 'takeaway' or in the restaurant. We chose the restaurant and it quality of the food was good. There was a choice of items and it was delivered hot with foil on to keep it warm (the idea was that you picked a time and it would be ready for then; in reality we were there before it was ready). They were offering evening meal and the bar was open to residents but we didn't use it as it was a short walk into town.

My honest opinion.

On our arrival, they showed us to a room on the third floor that was accessible by only very narrow stairs and both of us being in our seventies and my wife having to use a walking stick was impossible for either of us. When I asked for a change of room, they gave us a room with a double bed that was the smallest double I had ever seen and on the first night, my wife had to sleep on the couch. The carpet in the room was an absolute disgrace and in a filthy condition with stains all over it. The shower was only lukewarm. When I complained, the staff couldn't have been more cooperative and apologetic and moved us into a much better room. This room, although clean and comfortable. The single beds were in a poor condition with springs protruding from the mattress making sleeping very uncomfortable. Overall the hotel beds, fixture and fittings were tired and needed replacing and to my mind the condition was not to the standard of a three-star hotel. Having being recommended Best Western by friends I can honestly say I am very disappointed and unless there was a vast improvement at Deincourt Hotel I would not visit again or recommend it to anyone.

Great hotel, needs a bit more cleaning

The toilet flush was leaking and didn't flush properly, nice present for housekeeping!, the heater in the bathroom didn't work, and there was hair and dust in the bathroom. However the bedroom was very warm, with single glazed windows. Lots of parking space and a large selection of breakfast, I mean a very large selection. The garden was nice too. Staff very friendly, I would definitely stay again, but feel the need to let owners know that cleaning could be improved.

Ok for an overnight

Our first trip away since lockdown, we were very nervous, a member of staff said they sanitize the way they have always done, we felt for ‘sanitize’ read ‘clean’. Reception offered us a bottle of hand sanitizer, which was kind of them. Expected to have my temperature taken, it wasn’t. The plumbing is very noisy and we were woken in the night by other rooms. The hotel was warm, thankfully the windows in the room and bathroom opened. Very little noise from outside. Was pleased to find individual shampoo/shower gel. rather than the all purpose dispenser, but in plastic tubes. Didn’t have any meals.

During shutdown

I have been travelling all over the country during the covid shutdown, and I can say this was the most pleasurable stay anywhere. Check in was great, efficient and yet friendly. The room was fine, it seemed well kept, and up together. An evening menu was available, obviously not the full menu but it had some good options, draught beer was available (food and drink to be consumed in room) i went for 2 courses which was well priced and great quality. And just to top it off a cooked breakfast was available. Whilst these things seem the norm, trust me at the moment they really aren't. I stay in this area 4-5 times a year and i will definitely return here on my next in the area, it was my first visit here but not my last

Never again!

Not a great start being told by receptionist they take a swipe of your card in case you smash the room up! Bed was old and uncomfortable like laying on a pile of rocks pillows flat and no support at all. Breakfast was minimal to say the least poached egg rock hard and plate was cold.

Comfortable room

Room was nice, check in did not explain how the lighting/power in room worked with key card. Had to ring reception to find out. Food in evening was very disappointing - roast chicken dinner and apple crumble/custard. Did complain and manager took off cost off my account. So at least they reacted to this. Breakfast was good.
