Fabulous in every respect!

Fabulous location overlooking Lake Maggiore, and across the road from the ferry port, making it super-easy to visit the Borromeo Islands and even Switzerland!
The room was beautifully clean and comfortable.
What was particularly nice was the free coffee bar in the lounge and the \"sweetie bar\" in reception, and the welcome drinks & nibbles were an exceptional touch.
Everything is within close walking distance, with lots of nearby restaurants and cafés.
Would definitely stay here again.

I’ve been visiting Ancora for over 10 years and I never tire of this hotel and it’s location and views of Lago Maggiore. Breakfast is fantastic, parking is easy. Not a resort, it’s a simple business-style hotel but it’s fantastic.

Definitely not a 4 Star Hotel, maybe back in the 1980s, the first room we were allocated was really poor,however the staff did eventually move us into an attic room 5 levels up?
The breakfast was ok(fairly repetitive).
There was one member of staff who was very helpful (Marta) overall great location but wouldn’t return to this hotel, one other major point if taking you car to this location be prepared for a large parking cost!!!

Even though it’s right on the main road. The windows are so good you can’t hear anything when they’re closed. Also the room air conditioner is fantastic. It was in the upper 90s outside we stayed. And I actually got the room too cold.
The free breakfast is excellent as well. Fresh squeezed orange juice, and a vegetable juice machine. Even had sparkling wine.
I will stay here every time I’m in the area.

Overall great, however during our stay we experienced live bands playing right next to the hotel until 00:20. Noise level was very disturbing for us. Other consideration should be that most of the apartments are not barrier free.

Beautiful hotel right on the waterfront in Verbania! Great location, close to restaurants and steps away from the main ferry - staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, hotel is very clean and very well taken care of. Wouldn’t look to stay anywhere else if we found ourselves back near Lake Maggiore in the future!

A small hotel with exceptional personal attention. Great care was taken to make the stay special, with help always available for information or to correct any problem. Marco, the General Manager, was frequently around checking all was totally satisfactory, and his staff all seem motivated.

The location is excellent, very close to the ferry stop to visit the other parts of the lake and its islands. Shops, supermarket, restaurants and coffee shops all within easy distance.

The bed was very comfortable and the room had tea/coffee making facilities (rare in Italian hotels).

Breakfast was excellent- one of the best we've experienced in Italy. Meat, cheese, eggs, fruit, croissants, locally produced butter, honey straight from the comb, freshly squeezed orange juice, etc etc - what more can I say?

This is a special hotel.

We hired a car from Bergamo airport which was very easy.
We had a wonderful stay on Lake Maggiore (Intra, Verbania). The hotel location was perfectly situated just across the road to the ferry terminal... though we did have a fabulous lake front/view room, this did mean that we experienced a lot of traffic noise The hotel breakfast offered a great selection for all tastes. The room was brilliant, spaceous, modern and clean. The lake itself is so beautiful and trips by boat island hopping are fantastic even when the weather was poor. Stresa has a market on a Friday and Intra market is on a Saturday...one of the best markets we have ever been to. Plenty of places to eat around the lake.

Lago Maggiore trip

Check in and check out were very fast and easy. The hotel room was of a good size and was well equipped even though some areas could have been better (for example the bed mattress was v-shaped, air condition was not very effective). Other than that the hotel offered a reasonably good breakfast and most of the staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel was not cheap but was located just opposite to the lake and in the town centre. Would recommend this hotel to others. The area felt safe aswell for tourists.

Verbania Stop 3 nights

Beautiful quaint little hotel. Staff was super nice, front dest, breakfast, everyone!! Ferry boats are literally across the street. We were traveling by motorcycle and were able to park 15 meters from the front door. Fantastic food within steps of the hotel. Grocery store one 2 blocks away if you need to get some wine or cheese. We had been in Zermatt the day before. You could spend 5 days in Verbania for what a day and a half cost in Zermatt and have lots of fun. Visit the islands while you are there. Enjoy !!!!

Weekend Visit

I went to Verbania for a long weekend to attend a wedding. I stayed in a single room, modest in size, but suitable enough for my needs. The water pressure for the tub/shower was good which was nice. Warning: bring your own toilet paper because the hotel uses cocktail size single sheets of hard paper towel in their dispensers.

The noise from the hallway or outside might annoy the unseasoned traveller.

The location is about a 30min walk along the water front to the centre of town, but I preferred that because I like the exercise. The lakeshore path is directly across the street from the hotel.

There is a grocery store 1 block away to get beverages and snacks...great place to go if you want to have a picnic. I didn't eat or use the bar at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food/service

The hotel staff was super friendly and spoke English fluently.
Note: you need to book your return shuttle to malpensa 48hours in advance, or you could be subjected to 2hr+ bus/trains. A taxi will cost you 120euro incl tip.

Disappointing hotel despite great staff

This place is too expensive for what it has to offer. Stayed in much better hotels in Italy for the same or less. Weird lack of attention to detail like air on and minibar not working, total lack of noise insulation, half the minibar items listed not actually in it, and no-one really trained to do the bar downstairs. One couple left whilst we were there saying it really wasn't what they had been led to expect.

Hotel is very nice and staff was very good. If you wish a quiet lake location and stroll by lake, this is it. If you wish more action(more stores and more restaurants) you should drive to Stresa which is 15 minutes by car.

Overall, I was pleased with the hotel. It was clean and updated. The staff was helpful and spoke fluent English. the parking garage was great to have. My only complaint is the location. I was on vacation with my wife and we were hoping for a beautiful, quiet location along the lake. The hotel is located in Verbania, and more specifically Intra. It's right along a fairly busy road (SS34) and is definitely not secluded or quiet. After touring the other areas, in retrospect we would have stayed in Verbania along Via Vittorio Veneto or in Stresa. these areas are more what we had in mind for a relaxing, romantic time at the lake.

We reserved 2 rooms in summer. One room's air conditioner didn't function so kids had to relocate. Adults room air conditioner also didn't work, but we were informed they couldn't turn it on until next day. With windows open the temp was okay, but so noisy outside, we could never get to sleep.

Fantastic base to explore lake maggiore

The hotel is ideally located for travelling around lake maggiore, with both bus, coach and ferry services only minutes away. The hotel is modern and very clean, with staff that are friendly and helpful to ensure you enjoy your stay. The manager was present throughout breakfast service each day, very keen to hear of any criticisms and ideas of how to improve things; although we could not think of any. The rooms are a good size and very nicely furnished. The buffet breakfast is superb, with plenty of choice for all tastes - the smell of freshly squeezed oranges and chocolate will be my pleasant memory of a lovely holiday. The only note of caution, like all the hotels on lake maggiore with a lake view you are overlooking a busy commuter road, if you are a light sleeper it may be better to opt for a non-lake view room.

Excellent location albeit a bit noisy at night from traffic. Our room was good and had a view over the lake. Remote parking was difficult, and free public car park full, so best option is the chargeable underground garage 5 mins away arranged with the hotel. But the staff and breakfast were fabulous; and that really made it a must for next time.

A Stay at Hotel Ancora

While the hotel was quite adequate it was not a 4 star hotel. Rooms and baths are small and there is no real common area to the hotel. It has a breakfast room and the included breakfast is very good - the first hotel on the trip with fresh orange juice. The hotel is very basic but nice - a nice 3 star hotel.

This family-run hotel is located closed to Alba, Piemont. 5 minutes car drive. Quiet location in flat fields. Not very scenic. Very friendly staff. Rooms are ok for the price. Some rooms have a connection door to the next room. In case you get such a room make sure that the other room is not occupied (doors not soundproof).

There is currently some construction ongoing close to the swimming pool, so the pool ambience is a bit industrial.

Would recommend hotel only for a stop-over ion the Alba region.

I would recommend this hotel!!!!! The hotel was modern and very nice. Room had small balcony, but nicely fit a table and 2 chairs. Great view of Lago Maggiore. Shower was a bit small. Location was great. Short walk across to tour boat launch and parking lot. It was on the main street but we didn't think the noise was that bad. Close to great shopping and restaurants.

This is a fantastic hotel. Rooms are great and the staff are extremely helpful. Breakfast is very good. Worth booking a delux room. It is conveniently located opposite the ferry port in Intra, Verbania. (If getting the bus from the train station might be worth asking the driver to tell you when you are in Intra as we got off too early.) Intra is small. You can walk to Pallanza in about 30 mins. Cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. One of the best I have stayed in.

Very nice small hotel right on Lago Maggiore. We had a room in the back which was very quiet. The air conditioning was not as effective as it could have been so that knocked the comfort rating down somewhat. A very nice breakfast was included. The staff made excellent dining recommendations. There's a supermarket nearby.

Nous avons séjourné dans un appartement équipé d'une cuisine (pratique quand on voyage avec des bébés), lit très confortable et appartement très spacieux. Le coin cuisine un peu vieillot, mais suffisant pour un séjour de 4 jours.
Petit déj très copieux et varié, un large choix de produits de qualité. Le personnel est très serviable, accuillant, adorable avec notre bébé tout au long du séjour. Un bar est à disposition avec un petit coin \"pause\" très agréable. Très bon séjour à Verbania.

Die Unterkunft ist sauber und sehr zentral gelegen, leider musste ich für den Parkplatz jedoch bezahlen, da es nur den öffentlichen Parkplatz gegeben hat. Das sollte man bei der Buchung angeben.
