The luxurious Whale Coast Hotel in Hermanus is a modern Apartment-Hotel that combines all the comfort of a self-catering apartment with the luxury of a Fully Serviced Hotel. It is located within a 5-minute walk from the Old Harbour and Village Square, which are popular whale watching hotspots.
Our central location allows for indulgence in the beautiful coastal town as well as exploring the scenic beauty and many adventures it has to offer. Our 23 Duplex Apartments with elegant design, consists of the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs.

The photos are deceptive, the hotel is on the second story of a shopping mall. We struggled to find it as the directions said to go in the mall car park, signage and directions for the ‘hotel’ were hopeless. The room and bed itself were comfortable but the view was over a mall car park. The security door didn’t work so we felt a little unsafe as anyone who came into the shopping mall could have easily broken in. Breakfast was good but it is in a room with about three or four people working at desks with computers so it was like eating in someone’s office. We wouldn’t stay again.

There is a WC downstairs in the living space and large kitchen.
There is a great view of the mountains.
We wish we had found this gem earlier, ideal location in the mall and lots of safe parking.

The place was very clean and spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and big balcony. The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher, etc. The air conditioning was nice upstairs in the bedroom but there was none downstairs in the living room and dining room. The breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh. It was great being connected to the mall where you could shop for groceries, liquor, etc. There was also secure underground parking included and helpful porters to show you where to go.

The staff at the hotel were super friendly and amazing! We arrived early, our room wasn’t ready but they gave us another room righter away. That was so appreciated as we travelled long days to get there. However, our room was dated and worn. Living room furniture very worn out and not comfortable, perhaps our original room was to be more updated I’m not sure. But I was quite disappointed with the state of the accommodations. The location was perfect! The people were helpful and friendly!

Unfortunately the property had roof leaks and so two of the bedrooms we couldn't use properly once it started raining so made the stay not pleasant at all. Because it was about 2am that the water came through it was way too late to try and change apartments. looking at the wardrobes it has obviously been leaking for a long period as they had swollen up. The staff were apologetic though once we told them on check out

The next morning at breakfast, we waited 45 minutes to be served and when I went to reception to confirm a late check out as arranged prior to arrival, I was rudely told that this was not possible as the room needed to be prepared for the next guests, even though the necessary arrangements had been made.
We then returned to the room to find the power out, and no electricity present in the prepaid meter, so I called the reception to alert them as we needed to check out in 30 minutes but the issue was rectified 25 minutes later when I walked to reception to query why nobody had attended to the issue.
Only then were we given an extra 30 minutes to round up our stuff and check out in time.

The only point to consider is that the apartment was advertised as air conditioned however only x1 bedroom had an air conditioning unit (other bedroom & living area only had a fan). Okay for us when we were there but in hotter weather may be more of an issue.

- fridge in unit 12 makes quite a loud noise
- We did not have an umbrella on the verandah which basically made it impossible to sit outside on a warm day
- Shower design is very weird - The shower head is very low and then there was a shelf in the ay which made it very difficult to get under the shower - especially for tall people
- In the bedroom I think there is a need for a dresser of some sorts - we kept looking for space to put things on beside the 2 bed-side tables.

It seemed a strange location to have accommodation above a shopping mall but it worked very well indeed. Excellent attentive staff who looked after us very well. Parking was secure and easy. Would have been excellent in all of this review but it was slightly noisy at times as you’d expect but not a real problem. Very comfortable indeed.

Whale of a time finding Whale Coast Hotel
Great 3 bedroom apartment, IF you can find it! Very confusing because the Parking Lot signs only mention “Mall Parking Only—No overnight parking”. We had to send one of our party upstairs to the hotel, and then a Porter came down to let us into the designated “cage” for hotel parking. There is no mention on the signage for “Whale Coast Hotel”, so plan to go up and ask for the Porter. Once you’re over that stress, the apartment isvery clean, comfortable, and well stocked.

Located on the upper floor of a mall a few blocks from the coast. Not a bad location and I suppose convenient if you were to frequent the mall, but the rooms are spread out across the mall's footprint, which is not super convenient if you want to pop in and out. Honestly, the mall is not big by any means, but it also became somewhat of a nuisance if we needed to drop something off. It was quite nice that our base-level room (more like an apartment) had a full kitchen and separate living area and bedroom.

We have had a huge apartment with Maisonette arrangement. One bedroom upstairs with two bathrooms and balcony with seaview. A large livingroom, kitchen and a second balcony. Overall it was superb. The location is very good. Restaurants are in walking distance. The whale watching spots can be reached with 15min walk. Restaurant, which was recommended had incredible good food.

The location was the best part about the hotel. Very central to everything - food and shopping. Don't even need to drive around. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy because it is in a shopping mall. I had a lovely view of the sea from the room and could even hear the waves if the wind was just right. Really nice apartments in the centre of Hermanus with easy access to all amenities. Overlooks the local supermarket car park which sounds odd but there were no issues. Staff were very frienly and accommodating re early check-in and a late check-out ( only 1 hour which they didn;t charge for despite their literatire saying it would cost R250 ).

The hotel apartment is located above a shopping complex and within walking distance to the town centre where all the activities are. Supermarket below adds to the convenience when one needs groceries for cooking. Apartment was clean and well equipped. Hotel management was always in touch even before we check in and staff were friendly too. Highly recommended.

We are a family with little children, being for the first time in South Africa. Stayed in Hermanus for only one night. The hotel was great, located quite in the center with very spacious rooms, comfortable beds and large bathrooms. It is a self catering hotel with a large and very well-equipped kitchen. It is located close by the mall, with \"Checkers\" a large supermarket, inside; very convenient for self catering.
The hotel staff were friendly and professional. We enjoyed our stay and wished we could stay longer.

Hotel is located on top floor of shopping mall
This hotel is located on the top (second) floor of a shopping mall. It is difficult to find the hotel, and the rooms and parking are difficult to figure out. I have never spent more time trying to figure out where to park my car, or how to get to my room. The rooms themselves are 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, very clean and very nice. The view is of the shopping mall parking lot. Getting to the rooms is inconvenient at best and nearly impossible if you choose the wrong mall entrance. I loved the cleanliness and design of the apartments, except the bathroom is only on the top floor in the main bedroom (no bathroom on the first floor living level). Not a bad place to stay once you have the logistics figured out.

Amazing apartment in the heart of the whale coast
Apartment was fabulously equipped and very comfortable. It's near the heart of Hermanus - with all the facilities within a 5 minute walk. The facility is above a small mall so getting provisions is super easy. Driving directions are accurate but by simply mentioning the mall they would be even easier to follow. Superb stay
