Hotel El Kennaria is a great riad if you set your expectations correctly. It excels in value and location but comes with one significant trade-off.

Pros:

Fantastic location in the Old Medina. You step right into the heart of the markets and are a short walk to the main square. New Marrakesh is a quick 10-12 minute taxi away.

Helpful front desk staff (e.g. ask them how to turn on heat, AC.

Clean rooms and common areas.

Simple, no-frills breakfast is included.

Major Con:

Evening noise from the rooftop restaurant (typically 9:30 PM - 11:30 PM). If you're sensitive to sound or plan to sleep early, this is not for you. If you're out late or can sleep through it, you'll be fine.

Room for 4 people is tight.

Verdict: Reasonably priced for travelers who prioritize location and don't mind noise. Avoid if you need absolute quiet for an early night.

It was great. Very clean, great breakfast, very central. The only problem is that some days, a band plays on the rooftop restaurant until about 11 pm and it is very loud in the rooms.

The hotel was under construction. They suppose not to offer rooms. The room was not even ready with no toilet accessories and AC was not functioning properly. Very Bad experiance

Location is prime, entertainment was great, the connected rooftop restaurant was good quality.
The entertainment resonated into the hotel unfortunately making it hard to get to sleep as it went on until quite late but stopped before midnight.
Overall positive experience here

The service at Riad Hotel has been very good. I liked the support I received from staff like Hassan, Toufik and Zize. They gave me good traditional Morrocan food options at the hotel and places to visit in town. Very safe place to stay whilst in Marrakesh.

We were right off Jamaa al Fnaa, the shopping and dining was great, loud and always busy. It's worth noting that the square is only open to cars/taxis in the morning, so if you arrive in the afternoon or evening you'll have to walk approx 10-15 min to reach the riad. Something to bear in mind if you have elderly travellers. Staff were amazing, they helped me book private tours for my parents to atlas mountains and agafay desert.

Great location but noisy!

Hotel is very centrally located however downside is the restaurant on the terrace which has very loud music until late evenings plus lots of street noise from outside. Room was ok, but bathroom lacks basic facilities, needs upgraded and is tiny.

Great location though as only 3 minutes walk from the square. Staff is good and breakfast is nice and filling, although a little variety would be good rather than same breakfast every day.

This property is inside the medina, near the square, the street is inaccessible by taxi so be prepared to walk with your luggage a good 10 minutes from drop off point. But, you will be nicely greeted by Jesu and served welcome Moroccan mint tea when you arrive. Also walkable to Koutoubia Mosque.

Wonderful time in Marrakech

Our family of five (2 grandparents and 3 grandsons) loved this Riad. The rooms were terrific, the breakfasts were a delight and the service was incomparable. Our transportation was arranged and our two tours were great. We couldn’t have asked for a better time in Marrakech.

The room was spacious and comfortable. It is attached to a restaurant that had music playing until 11pm, with noice not finishing until closer to midnight. Very beautiful restaurant views. Very good, hot breakfast.

Staff is friendly, however they do try to hustle you a bit. Also are a little too flirty for women traveling alone. Pricing for extra amenities (transport, laundry, iron) changes depending on who you talk with or when you talk with them. Bathroom is shared and very public, I recommend making sure you have your own while staying. Not a horrible stay, but will not be returning.

Do go ahead and book this place if you like cockroaches, filthy furniture, leaking taps and theft of belongings! (tried to resolve this all with Expedia first but no resolution hence the review) First time in Marrakech and wow what a lesson this has been in hotels/ riads and what you should do when you're in a country with no phone service and no understanding of what to actually do when things go wrong. No first aid provided at the hotel (unless you count a sterile pad and ice as first aid) after one of us slipped because of their inability to provide any floor covering outside of the 'shower' (the term shower is laughable- it's literally about 9 tiles on the floor right next to the toilet, with a shower hose attached to the wall) area in the en suite rooms. Building works going on for most of our stay that we had to get through to eat breakfast and facilities overall absolutely awful. Pictures are not representative of how this place actually is today unfortunately. Apparently the rooms with shared bathrooms are better but I wouldn't know as I unfortunately booked an en suite room. I will say that the location is good- literally 2 minutes to Jemaa El Fnaa square but aside from that, sorry, nothing positive to add. Avoid at all costs and take your money to a decent establishment where you, your health and your belongings will be safe.

Great location situated just next to Jemaa El Fnaa square. Staff were nice and friendly especially Habib and Shareefa in the terrace restaurant. Amazing food and great service on the terrace and best place for shisha in the vicinity of the square and surrounding. Really good music in the evening and nice atmosphere overall. Bedding in rooms could be more comfortable and only 1 plug socket in the room not ideal. Overall 4/5 stars!

Staff were sweethearts, fluent in French and English. Location was perfect as many day tours depart from Cafe de France, a half-block away. Breakfast could be s...l...o...w, which is problematic if you’re supposed to meet a guide @ 8ish a.m., & coffee always came at the END of breakfast, as I was ready to give up & walk out the door half-asleep; WiFi was hit & miss in the room, although reliable in common areas. Absolutely acceptable for the price.

Hotel El Kennaria with its unique decor, that creates an atmosphere for a traveller wanting to explore the red brick city of Marrakech. The family that consists of the kitchen staff, cleaners, to the reception attendents pull you into their family with advice and kind conversations. The Kennaria has a hidden jewel in its crown, if you are lucky and happen to pass by the old Jewish quaters make sure to look out for Jamal el hanifi, working at The Square Cafe, straight out of Rudyard Kiplings book Kim, Jamal embodies the life of Marakech, a true Marakshi boy brought up in the old town, his charming yet comical American accent is the breeding of years of helping travelers and YouTube. Jamal's unique gift is learning a language effortlessly, adding to his already long list is his joy. His knowledge of the cities hidden wonders are unsurpassable (so ask or you will miss out), once he shakes your hand and leads you to a table you will end up making a true friend, don't lose out on this chance and pass him by. This is a combined establishment which consists of a rooftop restaurant with live music and a riad/hostel. The live music is very loud (far above normal levels), and the sound level inside the guestrooms, even on the ground floor, is in line with the sound level in typical restaurants/bars, which means that most people will not be able to sleep before the music ends approximately at 23:00-23:30 in the evening. The restaurant guests also use the same stairs as the riad guests, which means that there is a lot of traffic of talking people just outside the guestroom doors. Thus, this riad is not suitable for people who need a good night’s sleep, and it should only be an option if you intend to go to bed late and wake up early. The staff is great and very helpful, the property is clean and the rooms ok, although very simple. The breakfast is good. Great location. (When we visited, the electricity was out in some (but not all) of the guestrooms, but we expect that is not a reoccuring issue.)

Værelset var et meget lille men så fint værelse, men en dejlig aircondition der blev benyttet meget.
Det eneste ulempe ved Riadet var at der var restaurant fra beboerne og udefrakommende om aftenerne og der var meget højt musikshow hver aften, der af og til gjorde det svært at falde i søvn, grundet meget højt larm.
Ellers var hele personalet rigtige søde og spurgte altid om man havde det godt eller om de kunne hjælpe! Det var rigtigt dejligt.
Jeg kan klart anbefale hotellet og det rigtig rigtigt godt centralt hvis man er klar på bylivet med souksne

Súper excelente servicio. No nos toco desayunar porque salimos antes, pero ellos se ofrecieron a darnos el desayuno para llevar!! Atentos y muy bien ambiente en la terraza del hotel.. recomendado!! Solo que carros no acceden ahí pero es poco lo de caminar!!! Lo recomiendo al 100%

Greit sted å være hvis man liker at det er musikk rundt seg hele tiden. De har også en restaurant som stenger ved midnatt, så det var bråk fram til da, med live musikk og kunder som går inn og ut av bygget.
Strømmen gikk 3 ganger på de 4 nettene jeg var der, så det var kjipt, men de fikset det nokså fort.
Bra, tradisjonell frokost derimot, med takterasse.

Very noisy. They have a rooftop restaurant and open kitchen, where guest have to go through the riad. Door and window to the room doesn't help to stop the noise. You can clearly hear when other guest are using their toilet.
It was possible to sleep from 23 to 6.30.
The staff was very friendly and the room was clean.
