Nice hotel in a good location for the town. Reception staff were good and friendly. Car parking was good but should be reserved. We were on the top floor and had two single beds instead of a double as we would have preferred.

I stayed 1 night with 2 friends in a triple room at The Originals Boutique, Hôtel Normandie, Auxerre. The hotel is a bit run down and could do with a freshen up but the location was very convenient. The staff was also friendly and welcoming and they got a parking area downstairs where you pay €9 a night - so worked for us.

Good stop over

We stayed one night as part of our return journey from the south of France to split the driving. Family room was clean and spacious. Perfect for what we needed.
Don’t forget to book the car parking. You have to proactively contact the hotel to arrange and there are not many spaces in the covered hotel parking garage. We were lucky as hotel allowed us to park even though we had not booked.
Auxerre itself is charming and worth stopping at.

Overall it was okay. It was comfortable, clean and the personnel were friendly and helpful. It would have been nice to have had a refrigerator to keep the water and soft drinks cold and not have to beg from the reception for ice.Parking was not the best, the hotel offered spaces in the garage for 9€ a night, but my SUV did not fit in the space. Luckily, there was free public parking across the street and we found a spot about 200 meters from the hotel and didn't move the car until we left Auxerre, since we could walk to all the sites to see and restaurants and cafes and bakeries.We did not partake of the breakfast buffet, since we like to sleep long in the morning after a long day of walking in the city.

A single night's stay

A disabled room was requested when making an online booking, along with a clear statement of my wife's situation. The initial allocated room was not suitable & ignored the booking request. It was clear when the room was changed that there was no disabled-friendly room in the hotel ... no other guests appeared to be disabled: access from the garage was by stairs. The shower cubicle was impossible to use for my wife & it was a very tight fit for my 1.90m height. A nearby room became very very noisy from 4 a.m. [in the morning] with loud noises & regular shower usage - completely unacceptable. Reception appeared to be generally disinterested in our comments.

The reception area and front of property is fine however my room did not match this and would never be described as boutique. We were given a room out the back by a garage which did not feature in any of the pictures and did not match description of facilities. Basic is an understatement! Shower is chest height and does not adjust, angled to spray out the enclosure. No toiletries, no safe, no bath (specified as a room feature). The towels are very worn out and the biggest towel was small. The receptionists English was as good as my French (basic/intermediate) and between us we established the issues, of which she said the other rooms are fine but this is all they have as a quad room. Would not offer refund. Breakfast is overpriced for the very limited options. The pool table sloped and nothing else in the ‘games room’ worked. Everything about my stay was basic and overpriced. I would never stay again.

Really old small rooms. They updated the fixtures but design is terrible. No thrash bin in the room, room was so small they not even place to keep luggage, bathroom also new but hard to use. Wouldn’t stay here again. AC was so cold and they can’t fix it. Service was not great either

Nice Stay in Auxerre

We had a lovely stay here while in Auxerre. The hotel is charming, in a beautiful building and feels very cozy. We especially enjoyed the front garden where you can sit, relax and enjoy a drink - it really gives a nice homely feeling when walking in and adds to the cozy atmosphere. The hotel was clean, nicely designed and it felt that sufficient measures were taken to protect from the coronavirus. We recommend and would stay again!

Short but Pleasant Stay

This is a very comfortable & clean hotel about ten minutes walk from the centre of Auxerre. There is free parking across the street in a large public lot. My room was perfect- comfortable bed, sparkling clean & large bathroom, window overlooking the front of the hotel. Strong wifi and cable tv including the BBC channel. Improvements could be made on the breakfast buffet choices and with a more comprehensive guide for local restaurants, sights etc.

Very hot and no sleep

We stayed a night on trip round france. We booked this one as it had air con. It was hot but they have turned it off. No fan and then had people having loud conversations outside at 2am prevented sleep. Phoned reception they tried but still they chatted until 4am. Next day basically we tried but o well. Never staying there again.

An uncomfortable experience

Upon booking in the staff expressed their extreme displeasure that we had booked through Expedia and not directly with the Hotel. We were made to feel very uncomfortable as it was explained to that Expedia customers were given inferior rooms. Than were than given a tour to demonstrate the difference, this is the last thing in the world you want after a long day of traveling.

Great night for a rest from travels

The hotel staff was very friendly and spoke English. The room was clean and well appointed. This hotel could easily be a 4 star. The only down side to it was the breakfast. Lots of breads and scones, the sliced meats tray was empty and you had to boil your own egg. I would have liked a small menu where perhaps you could order some scrambled eggs or an omelette. We chose to eat elsewhere. Overall a very nice place. We would stay here again!

The hotel was well located. It was easy to find and only a 10 minute walk to the town centre. The room was small but very clean. There was an elevator, so lifting the suitcases up the stairs was not a problem. Francoise, on the front desk was very helpful and spoke excellent English. The breakfast had a lot of variety but would be a bit expensive if you only wanted a croissant and coffee. Free parking was available across the street.

Good location, meets basic requirements but there are penny pinching extras e.g. no kettle or coffee. The 'facilities' on offer require additional payment e.g. pool table. This gives one the impression that the customer is seen as a 'cash cow'. Other hotels offer 'free' extras that make the customer feel valued. The rooms are old fashioned which were not to our taste.

The hotel was very comfortable and not too far from the centre of Auxerre. We were very disappointed with the breakfast, they kept running out of essential foods and alwayshadto be asked for more. I had to wait for bread, cheese and eggs. All the ham had gone also. In fact there was so little food left I could not begin my breakfast. When the sliced bread arrived it contained a moldy slice. Most unacceptable. Boo rap eared to be checking or care.

Nice hotel and very convenient for city centre

The Normandie is close to the town centre and the river. It has a secure garage which is comforting with a carload of bags on the way back to UK. There is a nice garden area for a drink just off the road but quiet when we were there in August. The rooms were trad in style but had all mod cons including efficient air con and large bathrooms. An ideal overnight stop for us, we didn't stay for breakfast as we were in a hurry but regretted this later as there are no service stations or indeed cafes until well north of Troyes, the area north of Auxerre is for farming rather than tourism.

At check in we were met with little hospitality, which made for a not so good start. Yet later that evening we had the most incredible reception and a great team at breakfast. The food was nice and the help was even better. The surrounding area is a typical busy road but you are just blocks away from amazing down town sights to see.

we stayed in this hotel because we were in the area for Chablis tasting....the rooms are a little out dated but they are clean and spacious....The reception staff is very friendly and the hotel is located close to the center city and infront of a top restaurant. Also the free parking is a plus....i would def. stay there again.

The room was adequate though noise from other rooms was noticeable, a/c unit did not work, continental breakfast seemed a bit high priced for offerings. I think I would forego the breakfast, and parking as others mentioned. We chose to use the parking as our car was full of luggage. The carpets were a bit tired. In fairness, I perhaps am comparing too much to our hotel the night before in Orange which was considerably cheaper, lower star rating but over the top compared to this location. One thing about this hotel, walking distance to town, which was nice, This review is a bit all over the place but hope you find it helpful.

Obviously the management had never tried living in the modernised room.

Steps up from the front door.

Stairs turned a part circle so some steps very narrow which made it difficult to carry suitcases up to first floor.

The shower was at the end of a bath with a sloping slippery bottom. The shower head only had one height. It was difficult to get out of the bath safely from the sloping bottom as there is no grab rail. Nowhere near the bath for towels. The porcelain sink edge opposite the WC could be hit when getting up. The toilet paper holder was on a recessed wall LHS behind the WC so impossible to use. Nowhere to hang hand towels.

The bedroom itself had too much furniture. The stand for cases blocked the exit from the bed so had to be placed in front of the door at night. The safe was too small to take a portable PC. No kettle or refrigerator.

If you were late for breakfast the food choice was limited as it was not replenished. No croissants, no selection of cold meats, no pastries.
