Our room was air conditioned to 65°F and dry making it very hospitable on these summer days. When we checked the refrigerator we found food left by some previous patron. Front desk attendant was prompt in coming to clean it out on first request. I saw reviews online mention bugs so I checked the room and bedsheets. I found a cockroach on the air conditioner and 2 dead mayflys in the bed sheets. Everything seemed clean otherwise so I shook out the sheets and remade the bed to how we wanted. I slept on top on the bed and used a blanket I brought from home. Bathroom was acceptable, Shower gets warm quick and the light switch is easy to turn on. Hair dryer and clothes iron with board provided. We watched the TV and I used the microwave. Everything was clean but I would have preferred to not find bugs where I sleep. For the price I'd stay here again, but I will probably look elsewhere in the future for overnight accommodations.

Very pleased with my stay

The employee who checked me in was cordial. The room was clean and tidy. There was very little noise. One thing to be aware of is the room size. I was alone and booked a room for one person. The bathroom was very small. I am 5'2\" tall, and my knees almost hit the wall sitting on the toilet. The shower stall was barely big enough for me. While I didn't have a problem with this, a big person would. Just be aware of that if you want a solo room.

I stayed for 2 nights 9/5 and 9/6. I was given room 144. Just off the front desk. The room was clean. But the room was on the small size. Especially the bathroom. Sitting on the toliet my knees were inches from the wall in front of me. I tried turning on the TV, but all i got was no signal. Other than the small bathroom and feeling like i was in a closet, everything was good.

Not a bad little place

The staff was super friendly and easy to work with. The rooms were clean and everything was in working order. We booked 3 rooms, two of them didn't have great water pressure, but 1 had amazing water pressure. The mattresses aren't super comfy, but we're comfortable enough. The linens were clean and the Heat/AC worked good.

Bring a pillow, the ones there are pretty thin
Continental breakfast was pretty non existent, which was fine for us, we just grabbed something from the ez mart
It was located close enough for everything we wanted to do and there were a lot of food places around.
The road noise is pretty insane there, so if you're a light sleeper, plan accordingly.

Everyone we encountered was friendly and more than willing to help, which is a plus! I definitely wouldn't be opposed to staying again. It's a good deal for the price.

It was one of the least expensive properties I found but it comes with a caviat. The second floor has no elevator and the stairs are steep and missing a handrail. They were also very dirty. The room was very clean, the bed was fine but the shower was a little tight for anyone of size. They had coffee packets but no coffee maker and the breakfast room was sad. The coffee maker ran out after a third of a cup and no one was around to speak to or service it. The breakfast assortment consisted of 5 apples, a FEW breakfast bars that I wouldn't eat after opening one. There was dry cereal and that was it. Oh, there was a juice dispenser that works.

Property was generally average to below average. The room was much smaller than expected. Very little space around the bed (which was not the most comfortable). My wife said there was some dirt on the floor, but generally clean otherwise.

The bathroom was as small as a closet. Difficult to get out of the way of the door to close it. It had practically no space between the toilet and the wall in front. The shower curtain was not long enough to prevent water getting on the floor outside the shower stall. It had no shelves to hold soap or shampoo. I don't know if all the rooms were like this, but if so, I would not recommend this hotel.

Staff (especially the young man) was often missing from the front desk with no indication why.

Things I liked: Pleasant folks at desk, comfortable bed. nice outdoor area.

Things to work on: I was surprised that on the first full day of our stay, no one came to tidy the room. When we left on Sunday morning, I saw one of those signs on the table saying they conserve on towels, and if you want extra service, go to the desk. Well, we only started with a thin bath towel, hand towel, and washcloth for each of us. If you wanted a towel to wash your hair, I guess the hand towel was supposed to suffice?

Even if I had seen the sign, I would have been a bit put out. There is a staircase with high steps that were a bit difficult (not impossible) for me to negotiate. Once I got to my room, I pretty much wanted to hunker down I'm also unclear if that sign meant you had to ask for cleaning.

I understand I was at a budget hotel. I started out camping in TC, then joined my husband when he drove up because he didn't want to camp. Given the casual nature of the weekend overall, I thought it would be fine.

Even at budget prices, it still costs three figures a night to stay there. It is not an insignificant sum of money for many people. A LITTLE pampering would have been nice (room-cleaning!)

There is breakfast with a waffle maker and an omelet maker available. It was nice to have that.

The building is going through a remodel; it has that under-construction feeling. I could live with that. I might like to return in a year just to see if things have improved.

When walking into to the room you definitely get hit with a smell. Then you go into the bathroom and it looks like some one broke the sun floor so the toilet sits real low and the tile around the toilet is a broken. The shower is like a mustard yellow. It’s obvious they tried to update parts of it.

Toilet lever hard to push down. Could not do it with just fingers. TV wasn’t clear and keycard didn’t always work. Had to wait 25minutes in lobby for someone to show up to rekey card after calling numerous numbers. For an older hotel, the rooms and office areas were very clean! Staff was extremely friendly, inviting and helpful! Only complaint was the mattress wasn't super comfortable to me! Hotel had NO vacancy but when an elderly couple drove in from Texas, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate them in a newly renovated room that didn't even have furniture in it yet. They moved a bed in and discounted the room cost!! Their kindness speaks a thousand words!! Would definitely stay here again!!!

The hotel was clean and the workers were friendly. We're non smokers and our room still had a faint smoky odor. The bed I had wasn't comfortable. The carpet etc is a bit dated giving the long upstairs hallway a creepy look that our children didn't like. The coffee pot should have had some kind of paper cover especially now because of Covid.

The owner was very helpful and pleasant to talk to. We were completly new to the area and he gave good directions and advice about local offerings.
Our room was clean and felt safe even thiugh we were on the first floor just off the highway. It was quiet at night and we had a good rest.
The Inn is kinda old and it is clear that some guest have not followed the rules of not smoking. A scented candle helped to cover the smokey smell.
Our stay was pleasant for getting a good nights sleep. The run that we were in the area for went well and the owner was understanding about us being a little late on the checkout even though they were booked solid.

This property is very old and dated. The bathroom tiles were loose/broken and you felt like you needed to wear shoes while walking on them. My wife would not even take a shower due to the condition of the bathroom. Bed was comfortable which was nice. Hallways are very narrow. New owners are very nice but have a long way to go to get the hotel updated.

There was no one at the front desk when i tried to check in. After a couple loud 'Hello?'s and no answer. I opened the door again. Finally a guy watching a video on his phone comes strolling up. Looked quite surprised to see me. He also tried to charge me twice for the room. The biggest disappointment was no breakfast, just an automatic coffee machine, that still managed to tatse burnt.

After the bad reviews I kept reading I almost canceled my reservation. I'm happy I didnt. Everything was great the front desk the staff even my room was great. The stairs were steep but everything else was good. Clean room, sheets and comfortable bed. Clean bathroom, shower tub and sink. Room was stocked properly with all amenities. I'm not sure about the breakfast because we were always gone around 6 am but the coffee in the office was good not the usual crappy motel office coffee. The whole place was clean from the parking lot to the stairwells and the hallways. We got a corner room which was very spacious for me and my girls. I will deffinatly be making this place my new place to stay while in the area.

When we arrived, she put us on second floor, with really steep stairs. When we asked if we could have a room on first level, she started they stunk like smoke even though they were non smoking rooms.(not a good start) Next we asked If there was coffee in the morning she said yes, WRONG! When I went down at 7am no COFFEE! Noticed a sign will return at 7:30am, ok went back at 8am still no coffee and she was not there. (hotels.com states 24 hour service, not true no one was there to help you.) Wi-Fi super SLOW, if itworks at all. Room in need of repair, had a nail coming out of molding near door.(not safe) We stayed there last year (9-2018), the Inn is going down hill fast.

Great Northern Michigan Location

The Kalkaska Rodeway Inn fit my needs perfectly! The room was clean and comfortable, there were many places to eat within walking distance or a short drive, and I was able to enjoy many of the great northern Michigan sites during the day and return easily to my temporary home away from home for a good night's sleep.
