The staff were excellent , check -in was very efficient.
The curtain rail in our room (104) was broken so there was no curtain. So although we could close the shutters(valets), we were unable to block out the light.
The wi-fi did not work in our room at all and there is no guest lounge to sit in to access wi-fi. We had to either stand on the landing or sit in the dining room/restaurant to get a signal.
The room is noisy as by the roadside so closing the window was necessary but the room then became too warm. There didn't seem to be a way or instructions to altering the heating/cooling system In the morning the noise from the room above was such that we were woken at 06.00 hrs which is obviously when they got up, so we had to too.
The shower/bath arrangement is a bit unusual.

Third time unlucky

This was our third and we have both agreed final trip to the Hotel George Sand. A hotel which we had always found to be a good stay over between the north coast and our house in the Midi.
What previously had been enjoyable quirks with this hotel became a real pain on this trip. There was a feeling that something had changed since our last visit in late April and the heart of the hotel and the team who ran it and the attached restaurant was missing.
The whole stay was a catalogue of minor and Major mishaps, including being told the lift was not working and carrying bags up a narrow spiral stone staircase two flights, when it was, a shower cubicle which like many in older French hotels, requires you to be a contortionist to enter. Others though do not collapse upon you when you are in them and then jam open for the next occupant.
The evening restaurant service was rushed and they were clearly training a new member of staff who was then left alone to attend to us, lack of team work. This then led to a mix up on our order,
However the thing which really riled us both was the breakfast or should I say the lack of it, we were asked at what time we wanted breakfast and this was agreed at 8:00, we had also said that we would move our dinner booking not to clash with a large group. So at 8;00 we arrived to the breakfast room, tables unlaid, no coffee or tea, limited buffet of dried fruit and yoghurt and nothing else. Except for every single member of the large group. .

The hotel is a few minutes walk from the old town so excellent location. Parking is behind and free but first in basis (we didn’t have an issue but it’s off season). All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly, noting some don’t speak English ( but that’s half the fun!).
Downstairs is the dining area for breakfast which is a typical French buffet. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner. We had dinner once night and it was lovely.

Our room had a comfortable bed, small table and chairs, coffee and water. A small cupboard for clothes and a good size en-suite.

This is an old building so don’t expect mod cons. The stairs are very narrow, there is a lift but it’s really more for luggage, and floorboards squeak, things are old. That’s part of the charm.

Lovely hotel worth the return

WE arrived after a 7 hr drive north through France , to a good welcome . We were in room 103 , which is the special disabled room which we would recommend if possible as it is was huge . The bathroom alone was bigger than the room we stayed in last time. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel is quiet with an excellent restaurant. We are already going to book for our next return to the UK in October

Lovely location - some flaws

Lovely old building with loads of character. Bedroom clean and comfortable.
However, door lock proved very difficult to open ( it transpired later that the door had dropped and the bolt was binding on the keep)
When we tried to use the toilet/wash basin there was no water. It transpired that this was the case throughout the building, however we were not warned of this when we arrived at reception to check in. In their defence it was explained when we went down to check, and did come on about 40 minutes later.
We were also unlucky that the two men in the adjoining room were very noisy and kept us awake until 12. 50. So one must assume poor soundproofing.

Very good dinner in the restaurant terrace overlooking the river though limited choice as the 28 Euro menu was ‘off’.
Breakfast good

Overall lovely location but some attention to detail required.

Quaint hotel in lovely environment perched beside the river. Parking nearby and walking distance from medieval town's restaurants - hotel restaurant only opens sporadically. Be aware that check in/reception hours are limited. Steep stairs and no lift may be a problem for some.

The hotel is charming and would be lovely in warmer weather. The WiFi is not accessible in the guest room area, so teens were frustrated. Loches is a lovely village. The Saturday market was especially nice. The hotel is convenient to everything and walkable from the bus/train station.

Having stayed for one night two weeks previously we had expectations of a friendly hotel and a pleasant evening with a nice meal in the hotel restaurant overlooking the picturesque park and river. Sadly when we arrived at 7.30 pm the hotel reception was closed and a notice indicated that the restaurant was also shut for exceptional reasons. By the time staff arrived and we had checked into our room we experienced difficulty in finding alternative restaurants as most were surprisingly closed or in one case were not welcoming diners after 8.30 pm. Eventually we had a good meal at a local pizzeria.

The hotel had tried to contact us by phone but without success and explained that circumstances were exceptional.

If we plan to stay again we will check that the advertised amenities would be available and be aware that some establishments may consider the end of September to be off-season.

Interesting Loches,charming old hotel, great food.

Loches is a charming town in the old medieval city part, where the hotel is located- with 5 mins walking distance to restaurants and the old chateau.Hotel restaurant has lovely food and dining room overlooks the river. Saturday morning market just 5 mins away. Free parking close.

Even though we booked in advance we were allocated a garet bedroom without a fan or AC on a very hot day. We asked for a meal in the evening but were told ,NO go into town.After this treatment we choose not to take breakfast here .
As this is one of the best hotels in Loches we will choose somewhere else next time.
We asked for a better room but were told that there was only a worse one

Great location, charming hotel, good restaurant

We love this hotel, we've stayed many times- though some parts are 'shabby chic'. Restaurant is excellent and the staff were very efficient and friendly though the restaurant was very busy with most people arriving for dinner at the same time. Location excellent, in the pretty medieval part of Loches. Very close to the castle and good restaurants and interesting shops, open till 7pm and a great Saturday morning market.

Hotel with character in centre of beautiful town

This was a pretty hotel with character on the river bank. The room was hot (it was July!) but he upgraded us for no extra cost. The service was good and the host went out of his way for us, though we were expecting to eat in the restaurant, which was closed on that evening (Friday) This wasn't clear from the website, which said only closed in the winter. Overall, I would stay again; Loches is a lovely place.

Individual hotel with a lot of character

First point to make is, as other reviews have said, there is no lift. The stone spiral staircase is actually very difficult to navigate, particularly up to the 2nd floor, where the steps are narrow and irregular. I would certainly not recommend this hotel for anyone who has mobility problems.
Once we got up there, the room was quite large, and comfortable, with views over the rooftops towards the castle.

Good stop but a struggle up spiral stairs with heavy bags. We had an excellent evening meal from the formula menu -good value and a good buffet breakfast. Located near historic old part of town.

The Expedia booking system did not make it clear that all pament would be on check-in at the hotel.

On the positive side: this hotel is close to the old centre of Loches, free parking is only a few metres away, the staff were very polite and the room was clean and comfortable.
On the negative side: we could hear someone snoring in an adjacent room, so the sound insulation is less than perfect, and the wifi connection dropped out a couple of times, which was inconvenient but not catastrophic.
Overall we would rate this hotel as fair value for money.

Amazing hotel staff!

This hotel was just perfect and the price quality ratio is what you expect. They've had a nice restaurant overlooking the river. Although this hotel didn't provide an iron and ironing board, after calling the hotel before we arrived the lady brought one from home! What incredible service! We would definitely go back again!

Hotel was located on the river close to the center of town but was in desperate need of updating. Dark and dingy room with huge piece of tile missing from the bathtub. Sheets on bed seemed clean but everything else in the room just seemed shabby. Great boulangerie next door.

close to all sights

The accommodation was good, but when we arrived at 4 in the afternoon we couldn't get in as the hotel was closed until 5 pm.Once we checked in we were given a key but it appeared that the personnel left after breakfast and came back in the evening. The access to the rooms were a narrow spiral staircase which was difficult to negotiate with luggage and no help offered from the staff. WiFi didn't seem to work although it was offered. Rooms were clean and spacious and location was good.

The hotel is in a very good location, close to the old centre of Loches. The building is old and interesting and the dining room is fine with a conservatory area overlooking the river. However, our room and the ensuite bathroom were disappointing. The room was dull and gloomy and everything was in need of modernisation and redecoration. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Good for one night

Very pleasant setting shame the hotel is rather shabby; it needs some modernising and new carpets on the landings. The cleanliness of the rooms was very good, and staff friendly. But it all smelt rather stale. One night would be the most I would want to stay there.Also if you don't know France well, and expect to be able to eat in the restaurant after 8pm you would be disappointed. The front desk is not manned either after 8.30 it seemed.

It was a bit of a surprise to find the hotel locked up when we arrived, but a phone call brought round the receptionist very quickly. The room, overlooking the river, was very pleasant, clean and comfortable. There was a problem with the wi-fi, which had trouble getting the signal through the walls, but did work in the restaurant.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel could hardly be better placed for the old part of Loches. Car parking is not on-site, but a free public car park is adjacent to the hotel.
Breakfast was very good. All in all, we would happily recommend this hotel.

Très bon séjour dans cet hôtel.
Si l’hôtel ne dispose pas de son parking privatif il est très facile de se garer à une cinquantaine de mètres.
L’accueil a été très bon. Le personnel est très sympathique.
La chambre était très belle et très propre. La literie confortable. Tout est récent avec le cachet de l’ancien. L’hôtel est extrêmement calme même les chambres qui donnent sur la rue.
Le petit déjeuner était très bon : il y a tout ce qu’il faut.

Lovely riverside setting at the foot of the castle area. Very old historic building which means very narrow spiral staircase and lots of beams. Definitely not suited to all. Clearly refurbished a while ago and could do with a bit of TLC. Lovely restaurant too, well worth booking in advance, particularly if you want to eat in the conservatory. Otherwise ok, not great but the setting wins you over.

Avis sur notre séjour en famille à Loches

Nous avons séjourné 2 nuits en famille (2 adultes et 2 enfants) dans cet hôtel, à l’occasion d’une visite au zoo de Beauval.

L’hôtel, à l’image de la ville de Loches, est plein de charme avec son style château. Très original et vraiment sympathique. L’accueil et le personnel ont été disponibles, souriants et professionnels tout au long du séjour.

La chambre, bien aménagée et préparée, offrait une belle vue sur l’Indre. Le restaurant, de type gastronomique, fut une excellente surprise : nous avons mangé comme des rois !

Seul petit bémol : la climatisation. Lors de la canicule, elle s’est révélée insuffisante. La température de la chambre ne descendait pas en dessous de 26-27°, malgré un réglage à 17°. D’après ce que nous avons compris, la ventilation est collective à l’hôtel et non individuelle.

Hormis ce point, nous avons passé un super séjour. La ville de Loches est magnifique et mérite vraiment d’être visitée.

Excellent sejour en famille, il s’agissait d’une brève étape mais du début a la fin le service a été impeccable, notamment grâce a la personne qui nous a accueilli. La chambre qui nous a été attribuée était très confortables, climatisée (équipement plutôt recent) avec bouteilles d’eau et café à disposition.
La salle de bain était convenable, un poil vieillissante mais honnêtement largement au dessus de ce que nous avons pu connaître ailleurs.
Rien a redire de la propreté. Tout le monde s’est senti a son aise immédiatement.
Enfin, le petit déjeuner est assez classique mais très bon, et surtout dans un cadre très agréable!
Nous reviendrons lors de notre week-end au zoo de Beauval.

Nous avons passé une nuit -escale pour une fête de mariage et visite de Loches le lendemain. Immeuble historique et chambres agréables avec vue sur l’eau. Bonne literie, propreté. Tres bon accueil, emplacement parfait, terrasse au dessus de l’eau très agréable pour le petit dej. Très bon petit déjeuner et un très bon restaurant. 2 parking gratuits à 1min. Access vieille ville 2 min Choix parfait.

Le service à table du restaurant doit être amélioré. Nous n' avons pas été soignés ( table non préparée, pas de couverts pour servir la partie lègumes, cendrier non vidés, pas de présence de pain, de sel...) malgré l' amabilité des jeunes serveurs.
