To sum up the room I would say disgusting, run down, covered in dust, broken and unfinished. The bathroom was not cleaned on arrival, sheets and towels were dirty and had holes. Further, the bathroom looked like a construction zone with dirt and broken tiles and pipes in the corner and there was mould growing out of the shower curtain. To enter the room, which was basically an attic where you had to duck to not bang your head on the roof or beams, we were required to walk up a staircase that felt as if it would fall down with so little as a sneeze. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Absolutely the worst location we stayed during our entire trip. We did not get the room or facility as was shown in the photos and we ended up in the \"attic\" like area with a skylight and such low ceilings that all of us bumped our heads. It was a miserable experience and I would not recommend it to me worst enemy.

The breakfast was hard to like. Rotting fruit and stale breads. The staff eventually brought eggs, boiled in the shell and placed in a basket. It advertised that there is a restaurant on site, but i was told there is no restaurant, just the breakfast.

Staff member unlocked my door and walked into my room without announcing themselves while I lay in bed reading on the first night. Not sure what he needed, but he immediately left and re-locked the door. Didnt make me feel very comfortable.

People could be heard yelling at their children who were running and stomping around until late hours. Might have been the staff, not sure. Had to walk around and over their toys in the courtyard.

Very charming and old building, beautiful, but noisy. Wanted to keep my window open, but people would sit in the patio just outside and smoke, making the smell come into my room.

Walking distance to a bus stop, but not much else around there. I really wanted to like it here, and the staff were friendly enough, not sure I would recommend.

Absolutely no care for this 400 year old home. I stayed here 23 years ago and it has just gone downhill. Stains on the bed, super dusty, chipped paint, old mixed matched furniture, restaurant closed on Saturday night, and never met any staff! Just a key let at reception for me. Not even a place to get water or snacks. Everything was closed around the area after 3 PM on Saturday. I booked for three days and left after four hours because it was so terrible. I love Salzburg but wish I would’ve stayed somewhere better.

Really old fashioned and out of date. Room numbers written on walls with old markers. Dusty nicknacks everywhere. Bathroom was dangerous, leaky, and had spots of mold. We went during a heat wave and suffered badly with very little ventilation. We asked for a second fan (they dusted off a small one and did give it to us) but that didn't help. My poor dog could hardly sleep (and neither could I or my mom). On the plus side, the location is a nice walk into the old part of town.

Really disappointed in this property. Was very expensive for what was offered. It was unusual to find someone at the front desk. Did not have maid service. Bathroom had a lot of mold on the ceiling and in the shower. No screens on the windows and no air conditioning. Expedia needs to do a better job reviewing properties it offers! This property was a dump!

Enchanted historical hotel

The place with history and good vibe. You are comming to the building, where people were living for several hundred of years, that makes you feel enchanted. All details counts the ages, besides you sleep in very comfortable beds with white beddings. For all our family the atmosphere was magnificant and unforgetable. People running this place are very attentive and friendly. Location is 10min by food from the main Salczburg places of interest.
This place is worth to visit, who wants to feel the spirit of Mozart era, sure not Ikea era 🙂.

Great Providence to have found this gem of authentic Salzbürger hospitality. Certainly not the usual MacDonalds/Cola/Nobu/FourSeason spit shine polish 'chain'. Was so relaxed here. Felt really welcomed into the environment. Cannot more highly recommend. Very comfortable and clean bedlinen, eco friendly, helpful and kind. Really enjoyed being here.

Hotel did not privide what was advertised

We were greeted with respect while entering the premises. When booking this room, they had advertised \"free parking and free breakfast\". My family and i arrived after a long drive with small children and were ready to unload and relax. When we had asked where to park so that we may unload. We were told just to park along the street. Of course the street parking is free, it is not guaranteed nor does it exlude you from a ticket. An associate was sent out with my husband and i to help find a spot, and even he was unable to provide a spot. We were under the premise that they had a parking lot or guarenteed parking, not that we would have to fight for it. The building itself is very old, which i had expected while looking through the description. The dorr knobs and locks are very old and do not work properly, which made us uncomfortable. It was nice that the room itself was able to fit all six of us, which i had appreciated. The room provided cable, but no wifi. The cleanliness was not too bad, the bed sheets had other personnels hair, which i would presume and hope happened while washing all of the sheets and towels in the hotel. There were insects in the room, this i blame on the age of the building as well. It was quiet and didn't have issues with noise. We checked out around 0840, which is well before the mandatory check out time at 1200. I had been direct about the free breakfast that was advertised and was told that those that booked through a website would not qualify.

Good 2* family hotel

Haus Wartenberg is a small family hotel conveniently close to several bus routes into Salzburg (10,1, 22, 21), and you can walk there through the tunnel (about half an hour). We were offered an apartment nearby, which was very spacious although it was not serviced daily, lacked wifi (European 3G roaming is still possible of course), and had a capricious shower; this was more of an AirBnB from a friend than an apartment owned by the hotel, but they managed everything. Overall we're happy we took it and the access with heavy cases was easy. Their restaurant has a good menu, and breakfast is a normal buffet. Parking is anywhere that can be found on the street, and because this is a 3 hour limit area the staff take your keys and periodically change your disc for you, which seems to be legal (!). They sell the Salzburg card, which is great value. Reception is not always staffed, but you can usually find someone. There was some confusion on check out as to whether we had paid or not, which was resolved after a few minutes. Overall the location was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the price was good for being so close to the centre.

This is a quaint old house in a quiet part of town. It is a short distance by bus or walking to the altstadt. It is rustic, and gives you glimpse into life in old Salzburg. It is not a luxury hotel, but very charming.

The location was about 1.5 km from where we wanted to go, and even though public transportation is encouraged, we drove our car fairly easily into Salzburg. Our room was spacious enough to allow our family of five some elbow room. One of the best things about our stay was the breakfast that was included. It was pleasant to wake up, go downstairs, and eat breakfast.

I loved the old hotel, my husband not so much. It was in the 90's no air conditioning and we were on the fourth floor. There is not a lift but fortunately we had our teenage grandson's with us to carry our suitcases. The breakfast is wonderful. We were treated by a group of opera singers that practice there.

Quirky one of a kind place that is close to the city center and offers decent accommodations at a reasonable price. They have a loft twin room that can sleep 8 (we had 7) which made our trip possible from Regensburg. Had we needed to book two rooms instead, not sure if we would have come to Salzburg. We are faimily of four. Our quad room had only two drinking glasses. I asked for two additional glasses at the front desk. The man on duty said yes, and went away. I waited almost ten minutes at the desk and gave up. He never showed up and we never got the two glasses. Room was fine, classic Bavarian. Location and breakfast were good. Ten minute walk to Augustiner beer hall. 20 minute walk to the old town square.

This hotel was a wonderful place to stay, dine and relax in the evenings, being a popular place with locals. Alsorts going on from tango dancing to classes n card playing. A homely cosy friendly place which we would highly recommend and stay at again. A good 25min walk from old centre but well worth it to stay in such a lovely welcoming hotel. Ideal for sightseeing by day and back to hotel for good food n company in the evenings, it made our stay :)

Absolutely an amazing find! Beautiful place with great rooms that reflect the past but have modern amenities. There always seemed to be something going on in the hotel which made it feel welcoming. The restaurant for dinner and breakfast were both delicious. I would highly recommend staying here!!

Absolutely superb place - don’t go here if you want 4* amenities and pristine decor - but if you want a genuine Salzburg experience in an old house , packed with character and many old artefacts , along with genuinely helpful staff then this is where you should stay. I would happily have paid 4* downtown prices for this stay ! Extremely happy all round - approximately a 20 minute walk to Salzburg centre but you can get one of the taxis that are always , literally , across the road , for around 4 euros each way if you need to get there in a hurry 👍

We arrived early and we able to check in (YAY)! The room was large and comfortable. I loved the old armoire in the room. bed was comfy and so were the blankets. I was happy to see a washer and dryer on the same floor. After traveling a few weeks, it was much needed. The resturant had a great dinner. We ate in a small side room with a few tables and a roaring fireplace. The waiter, Phillip, was amazing. So personable and friendly...Location was good- walking distance to old town/Christmas Markets..lots of cute stores nearby - but all were closed for holidays

Normal vintage hotel - not a value for money

Positive: Staff and service were good. Located not far away from the Salzburg city center. Not much choices for the vegeterians.

Negative: Old family house converted into a shabby vintage hotel with dirt accumulated on furniture & fixtures over time. The wooden floors were making squeaking sounds during walking and room service didnt showed up until requested for.

Overall, not a value for money hotel.

Great stay in a quiet neighborhood close to the metro lines. The old pension has a great charm about it, something both my wife and I really enjoyed. Breakfast was five star and wonderful. Hot pots of coffee on each table, though is to wanted a cappuccino or another hot drink, they would be happy to make it for you.

As for comfort, the comforters were the softest we've had in over 20 different stays. Very happy. Firm bed with a soft padding. Slept very well.

We spent nearly 2 1/2 weeks in Europe, and by far, this was my favorite place we stayed. When I read the reviews, most said it was not clean, but served a delicious breakfast. We were overwhelmingly pleasantly surprised. Not only was it neat as a pin (and spotless and clean), it boasted a washer/dryer, comfortable beds, a cute kitchen, two fabulous porches (with a comfy hammock swing), a piano, and guitar. This place had character. The staff were super friendly and helpful (even after we locked ourselves in!). The reviews were correct that the breakfast was delicious, but missed the mark on what a FABULOUS find this is. My only regret is that we only had one evening here. My family and I spent some time on the deck talking and listening to the talk from downstairs float up (which ended by 10 pm). A tree gave us privacy. I would highly, highly recommend this place!!!

Another room had been found for us but we were very disappointed not to be staying in the hotel we had booked. We would have liked the chance to rebook somewhere else ourselves if we had been informed of the double booking in advance of our travels.

I loved this place! The location was about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the town center. It had a buffet breakfast everyday. I enjoyed the food they had to offer and they offered a decent spread. The staff was super friendly. My friends and I didn't know any German so there was a bit of a language barrier with some of the employees but we got along just fine. The rooms were comfortable.

350 yr old building. Rooms may be sound proof but with the head of the bed by the door I heard other guests in the halls throughout the night. My first night I was awakened by someone turning my door handle around 4 in the morning. The owner was friendly enough but always seemed to have something more important to do than hold a conversation with me, ie. on the phone/computer or someone that arrived at the desk after me.
My heater didn't work the first night. They sent a maintenance man very quickly but he was not finished before I was leaving for the day. I asked the owner to make sure my room was locked and he assured me it would be. Needless to say 13 hours later when I arrived back my door was not locked. The owner asked if everything was in my room and just said he has a very safe place. He had a safe but said you can learn how to open a safe on YouTube.

I was pretty excited to stay at this hotel, it looked quaint. I loved the antiques, and was not put off by the amount of religious decorations throughout. It was definitely in the perfect location-walking distance, but not in the crowded downtown area. However, I was sadly disappointed. The location was great, but the hotel and room was run down and dirty. There was no screens on the window, and the bugs, smoke and noise from the restaurant below lingered in our room. The light fixture in the main bedroom didn't work, and had about 2 years of dust on it. I made the mistake of dropping my earing in the bathroom, and the floor was filthy. We happened to be in the room when it was cleaned. The woman made the bed and gave us fresh towels, and then left. She didn't clean or take out the trash. I think that was pretty common. I bet they didn't clean when we left. Breakfast was pretty good, they had some yummy bread that I put jelly on. I saw others (who spoke German) had eggs for breakfast, but we were never offered eggs, but we didn't ask for them either. I am not very picky about my hotels, I wanted to stay somewhere like a bed and breakfast, but this hotel was awful. The two positives were 1. They had a washer/dryer that was free and anyone was able to use. and 2. Everyone was friendly. The wifi password was religious and my kids nicknamed Haus Wartenberg-\"The hotel that Jesus threw up on,\" or \"Haus Jesus.\"

Can not comment on hotel staff and facilities, because I decided to go to another hotel when I saw this one.It is probably my mistake, I did not read description closely, but beware this is not a hotel, but B&B. The bed was clean and hotel location is 10-15 min walk to the center, but it is very old house with very old rooms and shared bathrooms.

We had a great experience from this hotel. It may be old but well maintained. Staff are very nice and breakfast is good.
Just a bus ride to the centrum or 20 mins nice walk.

This guest house lacks a lift. The entrance to it is neglected. The decoration and furniture inside are outdated and although they may fit the dated house, they do not meet the modern needs. Breakfast was good though and the lady serving breakfast made up for the otherwise disappointing guesthouse.

Cute and relaxing cottage-type bed and breakfast.
Both comfortable and an experience. Feels like you are living in a bit of a fairy tale.
The breakfast is great and the restaurant is really good.
The staff was very kind and helpful.
About a 10 minute walk to old town.

Hospitable and nice people. Very homely. Breakfast was good and the lady serving us each day was very friendly. Loc perfect since bus stop was 2 min walk and city center just ten mins walk. Bathroom was old and could be renovated. It's an old historic house. They even did our laundry for free. If you don't care about a hotel atmosphere this is a nice place to stay at b

We got in late and were greeted with helping hands and a nice, tall beer. The owner and staff were amazing and the room was historic and with charming. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the courtyard. This place is an experience in itself, and a great appetizer for the rest of Salzburg.

La pension est située à proximité du centre historique. Il faut 15 à 20 minutes à pied en passant par le tunnel. La pension est une vieille maison de Salzbourg qui a toute une histoire. Mozart y serait venu parait-il... mais on n’est pas obligé d’y croire! L’hotel regorge de religiosités. C’est une pension bien dans son jus que je vous recommande

Not in so good shape

It was difficult to reach someone in charge. The room was not clean, there was a thick layer of old dust under the beds. No smoke alarm in the room. No hot water the first night.

A Strange place. My impression was that the management could not keep up with the pressure of the local tourism industry. The hotel is in a - well - odd shape. If you stay for a night or two fine, I would not recommend a longer stay with your family.

Immense maison au charme vieillot

Une immense maison au charme vieillot, dans un quartier calme tout en étant proche du centre. Des hôtes attentifs allant même jusqu'à changer le disque de stationnement de notre voiture pour nous permettre de visiter la ville sans souci ! Un bon petit déjeuner (compris)
Le seul point négatif se situe dans la salle de bains :
-flacons de produit à douche vides... on ne s'en rend compte qu'au moment de l'utiliser, donc quand on est mouillé (dans ce cas il vaut mieux être 2 !!!)
-absence de verres à dents

Wir haben eine günstige Unterkunft mit praktischer Lage gesucht und gefunden. Das Haus scheint ebenso wie sein Möbelsammelsorium schon so einiges mitgemacht zu haben. Modernes findet man nicht, braucht man ja aber auch nicht wirklich. Die Ausstattung enthielt letztlich alles was man brauchte, die Betten waren bequem, das Frühstück reichlich und ausreichend (dass man häufiger nachfragen muss für neue Milch/Brötchen/Eier etc. habe ich im Rahmen von Lebensmittelschonung positiv bewertet) das Personal eher zurückhaltend förmlich. Insgesamt waren wir sehr zufrieden und würden es wieder buchen!

Hat schon bessere Zeiten gesehen

Das Hotel hat sicherlich schon bessere Zeiten gesehen.
Frühstück ist okay. An 2 von 3 Tagen gab es keinen Orangensaft. Fahrradständer ist komplett mit zum Teil sehr alten Rädern belegt.
Beim Ausschecken wollte man mir noch ein Marienbildchen für die Reise mitgeben. Das muss wirklich nicht sein.

Mala experiencia.

Desde que leí reseñas, en todas mencionaba que era una casa algo vieja y que rechinaba, pero para mi ese no fue un gran problema, lo que falló fue la falta de atención y cuidado al huésped, enlistó varios detalles que considero negativos y por los cuales no recomiendo el lugar:

1- no se realizó aseo de habitación, ningún día, estuvimos 3 noches y 4 días
2- el calentador/secador de toallas del baño no servía
3- las almohadas estaban sucias, si bien las fundas estaban limpias, la almohada se veía muy sucia
4- como no hubo aseo en la habitación, teníamos que salir a pedir papel o jabón
5- el desayuno es muy básico (jamón, queso, pan y cereal)
6- un día en el desayuno pedimos cereal y nunca lo llevaron, nos dijeron que no había más
7- había moho en la regadera del baño
8- no había básicamente ningún amenity, solo un jabón y dos rollos de papel higiénico
9- no hay aire acondicionando
10- una ventana no abría

Francamente no volvería, ni lo recomiendo.
