Stayed at Bahia Principle- Bourganville April-16-23. Went with my wife, the resort is adults only. We had an excellent time, room was clean a little dated, AC worked well. toilet was acting up, it wasnt a big deal, bed was firm, we were in building 54..1st floor. no view, but we were never in the room. It was a central loction halway between the quiet pool and the fun pool and right next to the buffet resturant. Quiet pool was nice, and the resort crew at the pool were excellent led by Marceleys, she was great. They played games, and led activities like water aerobics. swim up bars in both pools was key, or wait for the waitress (Naraleis) was ours. We did swim over also, frozen margaritas, pina coladas..and mohito's were popular. I tipped them to keep them coming back, they were nice and went the extra mile to make you happy. The food makes my overall rating to dip to 4.5 star Disappointed with Rodizo steakhouse, staff was fine but steak wasnt cooked correctly, rice was served cold..not even warm, cold, anyway, Italian resturant was un-impressive also. French resturant Don Pablo (ronny fernando)was good , the beef tenderloin was soft and cooked correctly. The buffet in our opinion was the best place to eat. Dinner had something good for everyone, fish, roast beef, roasted Pig, ham, chicken, pasta bar, fruits, fresh..veggies..taco night , Paella, very good. Temps went as high as 90, and as low as 70, rained a couple nights no big deal. Sun was always out in Am. would go back

Great buffet selection! While it is hard to get restaurant reservations, don't be worried about hitting up the buffet at all! Nicest, kindest staff I have ever met. The entertainment staff were so fun, genuine, and engaging, truly building relationships with you and creating memories and laughter. The pool selection was great (quiet, more exciting, whatever you're looking for), never waited long for a drink. Everything was close to walk to, never could not find a chair or some shade to sit in. Overall, great value!

The resort was great. Very clean and well maintained. The rooms were nice and clean but the tv didn’t function properly (heavy static causing programs to flicker in and out). Mentioned this to several staff and they indicated it would get addressed but never fixed. The one issue we did have was with cigarette smokers. They were scattered all around and in the pool. We are not smokers so didn’t enjoy the smoke. Other resorts we have been to have been smoke free around the pool and outdoor bar areas. While ash trays were provided, cigarette butts and ashes were observed throughout the resort sidewalks, beach and even in the pool itself. This was very disappointing. Food was good and plentiful. Entertainment could have been better compared to other resorts. Nice and quiet location overall.

We flew from JFK to Santo Domingo (SDQ), and the airport was a pleasant surprise—large, well-organized, and air-conditioned. The drive to the resort took about 50 minutes.
The property is adults-only, a short walk from the larger Bahia La Romana, which is more family-oriented. Guests at Bouganville can access the facilities at La Romana if desired.

The resort is peaceful and inviting with lush, beautifully maintained grounds. Dining options are plentiful, and we found the food to be excellent. As others have noted, early reservations can be hard to come by if you wait until arrival, but we were able to book Don Pablo and Takara—both were outstanding.
There are two pools: a quiet pool for total relaxation, and a livelier pool near the beach with music, activities, and a busy swim-up bar. The beach itself is tranquil, though the water isn’t the typical turquoise and was a bit chilly. Disappointing but not a dealbreaker.
Our room and bathroom were spacious, if a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. The beds are firm, the AC worked perfectly, and the fridge was restocked daily. One thing to note: the buildings are three stories with no elevators. We didn’t mind being on the top floor, but others did—something to be aware of when booking.
Evening entertainment was fairly muted. The more lively nightlife takes place over at La Romana.
The sun is intense, so five days felt like the perfect amount of time to relax and unwind. We would absolutely return to Bahia Principe.

Upon our arrival and check-in, I proceeded to my room and intended to take a shower; however, there was no hot water. I contacted the front desk, and a maintenance person arrived, informing me that they could not address the issue until the following day. I requested that they please resolve it in the morning, as I wished to shower due to the humidity. At 10 AM, no one had come to my room, so I returned to the front desk to notify them again. The concierge informed me that the issue had been resolved, but I explained that it had not been fixed, as I had remained in my room the entire time. He accompanied me to my room to verify that there was still no hot water, and he mentioned that he needed to consult his supervisor, which would take some time, leaving me without hot water at 1 PM. Since I had a spa appointment, I opted to take a shower there. Later in the afternoon, the hot water issue was resolved. Afterward, I went to enjoy a couple of beers, only to discover that the all-inclusive package offered only one type of Jamaican beer. I returned to the concierge and explained that I had communicated with the hotel via chat, where I was informed that several different beers, including Corona, were included. However, at the hotel, I was told otherwise. I then visited the Takara restaurant, which had a fantastic atmosphere. We had a great stay at this all-inclusive resort and would definitely recommend it—especially for anyone with Celiac disease. The staff was very careful and took food allergies seriously, which made a big difference.

The food was very good, and all staff were friendly and professional. A special thank you to Pedro, who served us at breakfast and sometimes in the evenings—he was always attentive and welcoming.

One tip: reservations for restaurants can be hard to get last minute, so download the Bahia app and book dinners in advance.

Beach is very nice and seaweed free. Water is not as turquoise blue but rather a little murky, however still clean and nice for swimming.

We were pleasantly surprised by our stay, it really exceeded our expectations! The food was consistently good, both at the buffets and the restaurants, and there was plenty of variety. The staff was the highlight here. The service was always friendly and attentive. Our favorite staff member was Patricia at the Tamarindo bar. She was incredibly attentive, funny, and made our stay amazing. We loved setting up on the beach every day, where there were always available seats. As read in many reviews, this particular property is definitely outdated. When finally arriving into the Junior Suite after over an hour of waiting after 3pm check in time. We immediately, picked up on the mildewing smell in the room. Next we took a look at the walls and noticed old water damage that had simply been painted over. Asthetically, not very appealing and just needs a face lift. the mini fridge we were hoping would be stocked with alcoholic beverages (as it is an all inclusive) wasn't. All we had were 2 beers and 4 mini bottles of alcohol. First all inclusive resort where i arrive to only beers. That made us sad.

The air conditioning wasn't very good, we tried putting temp down and nothing changed. so it was always humid.

Staff was amazing! Without them i believe our experience would have not been very good at all.

Nightly entertainment was great.

Buffet, well you simply don't expect a buffet to be perfect. Food was good. Restaurants were good, we only went to 2 of them. As the rest were booked up almost every day.

Lastly, resort APP isn't very good. If you're lucky enough to check in and book restaurants before arriving God bless. I am not the only one that kept getting errors. Oh and be prepared to contact actual resort when ready to check in VIA app and only app because it wouldn't let us do it from actual computer to get a code that you will need.

Property was nice. When you arrive for Bourganville, they drop you off at the adjacent Grand Romana and you shuttle or walk to this resort. They are part of the same with the Bourganville being the adults only. La Grand seemed like it had more amenities, was larger, so if you don’t have to be adults only, you may want to consider that one.
The food was good but we could not get reservations for several of the restaurants or they were very late ones. In retrospect, Be best to make reservations in advance on-line before you even get there. Pools were good with poolside service and swim up bars. Quiet pool and activity pool. Activity pool area had its own stand alone bar too. Beach was nice area but the water is not very conducive to swimming due to rocky bottom. So pack water shoes if you plan to get in.
Our room was nice and quiet but we could not check in for 2 hours later as they had to set the room for 2 beds which were requested in advance. Staff at that moment were not very helpful. They could have at least had someone orient us to the grounds, activities, etc while we were killing time. We basically had to figure everything out ourselves such as the fact that there is a kiosk in the lobby that you can use to see what’s going on each day and attempt to make reservations.
The crowd was a mixed bag of mostly Americans and Europeans who were mostly distant but friendly enough. The staff was mostly friendly but did not speak much English.

My parents and I truly enjoyed our stay here. The beach is stunning, although the water isn’t crystal clear, we understood that it’s between two rivers. All of the restaurants were wonderful, the staff were super helpful and engaging. We spent most of our time by the fun pool. A quiet pool was a little odd to me with how early people would get up and put their towels out, and I was even told to be quiet on that side! If you’re looking for true relaxation and no talking, then that would be the pool for you. But I met so many wonderful people at the fun pool and we are all planning trip trips to see each other now! The rooms were cleaned every day, and there’s even turn down service if you want it. I look forward to coming back here and I realize why so many people do! Thank you for all of the wonderful memories and we look forward to making more at this property!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. As you can see from the photos, the beach is not clear blue but it was very pretty and the water was warm. We mostly stayed by the quiet pool. It was disappointing that it closed so early every night but we enjoyed our days here, just lounging by the pool. The woman that worked in the shop in the lobby was completely rude. The gentleman that drives the golf cart around and takes you to and from different parts of the resort was amazing, super friendly. We did specialty dinners and upgrades for all of our meals. The weight staff, for each of these were absolutely amazing above and beyond they made up for the several rude workers that we encountered throughout our week. We ate at the buffet on our last day before departing for the airport and it was absolutely disgusting. Even the ice cream tasted bad. I’m so thankful we ended up paying more for the upgraded dinners because we would’ve starved all week if we had to eat at that buffet again. Unfortunately one in our party had to go to the clinic so that was a $250 charge for a five minute visit with the “doctor” who looked at their eye and said it might be pink eye and then charged an additional $50 for eye drops. Even though it’s all inclusive we felt nickeled and dimed.

Room service was a joke- ordered a simple drink and it never arrived.
If you want a pool chair plan on getting up before sunrise to go 'claim' one.
Buffet was BAD some days and ok other days. Spa staff and treatments were ok, no shower/dressing room or sauna/steam before or after booked treatment.
This resort is 1.5 hr from the airport. And further from most activities .. $120usd for airport shuttle each way.
Would not stay here again.

The staff was amazing. Everyone was lovely, but we had a terrible experience at the Casino. The blackjack dealer on the specific night we went was really rude and unfriendly. She did not say hello and did not engage with our group at all, and then tried to pull a fast one with us on a winning hand that my husband had. We complained to the manager, they watched the tape and refunded our bet but did not give us the winning hand, even though they saw it on the tape that the dealer made a mistake.

The Brazilian restaurant was the best experience for dinner and the beach party at night was a lot of fun. I would recommend this hotel, just don’t go to the Casino. It was a bad experience.

Had a wonderful time here. The beds like others were ssying were outdated and soemtimes smelled a little “tropical” but got used to it fast and wasnt a deal breaker at all. Staff was amazing and there were so many activities and things to do there. Was def worth the money spent infact I wonder how they make money with all the food and drinks we had ahha. Christian was great and would def consider going back!

The spa is a wonderful experience. The pools are great, the food is ok not great. Don Puablos is the best. Our room was nice, only directly in front of the main lobby, nightly shows are so loud trying to sleep is impossible.

The Ocean view room was absolutely beautiful!! The bed was uncomfortable though- the mattress was hard, every morning woke up with the backache.
The gym had everything I need, the spa was very relaxing and massage was great!
One thing we were missing was a self-serve coffee station during breakfast. Staff was offering some but on their time. Had to wait for a refill and sometimes a while. There used to be stations- not anymore.
Also, it would be great if staff would let guests choose a table instead of choosing it for them- people have preferences.

The property is obviously dated, as it relates to structure and amenities and is in need of an upgrade.
The staff at this place are incredible! Extremely attentive, very interactive without being disruptive. The Food and Beverage team were phenomenal Waster and Danny at Main Lobby Bar deserve very special mention as their consistent timely service delivery was exceptional. Eli, Ronny, Emilio and Jose-Marte are absolute superstars!

This property and staff were amazing. The cleanliness really stood out to my wife and me — from the beach being raked daily to staff sweeping water off the floors in frequented areas after it rained. The staff were also phenomenal and incredibly kind. The entertainment team always made sure there were activities going on throughout the day and night.

We highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the Dominican Republic!

P.S. If you’re planning to make reservations at the on-site restaurants, be sure to book them before your stay using the Bahia Principe app. When we arrived, all of the restaurants were already fully booked. The buffet food was good, but we were really looking forward to trying one of the other restaurants on the property. There is also a great restaurant a short walk down the beach called Onno’s (Beach Club Playa Nueva Romana).
