You had to climb to take spiral staircases to get to the bedroom. They were too narrow for my luggage.

I left after one night and the staff was not helpful in curing a new room. Fortunately, I had traveled to the area before and was able to book a room in a wonderful hotel not far away.

The facility has a lot of potential, but it needs a makeover and all rooms should be accessible .

As Beautiful as it looks.

Beautiful abbey which has modern fittings but still retains its beauty and history. Really comfortable stay, plenty of room and lovely balcony which we didn't use because of the rain. Large and modern bathroom that is beautifully decorated. Breakfast quite expensive and not sure if it is value for money. The restaurant is popular, with great views but we unfortunately didn't try it. Swimming Pool was fantastic and not crowded as most people are hiking or touring the region. Staff and Manager especially was very friendly and polite and always helped us when needed. They also have a football table and chess room which was an added bonus! Driving back at night is a bit tricky with a large car but not a problem as they have numerous car parking spaces.

The property is fantastic. The view of the surrounding area is incredible and the idea of taking an old monastery and turning into a hotel was a great one! The pool is beautiful as well.

The issues are the air conditioning doesn't work. The units are run off of a central chiller system which is clearly not functioning. Due to high costs they likely aren't fixing it. Two other couples and myself had the exact same experience of no air conditioning in 3 different rooms. I wouldn't have seen this as a major issue but the day time highs were in the 35*C range leading to a very warm room even overnight with the window open.

The refrigerator in my room also did not work.

The restaurant was nice and although breakfast was great, we had an unexplained issue at dinner, ultimately resulting in a 4 hour dinner seating. Further to this my protein was apparently more undercooked than I thought as I was sick for many days after.

While the staff at the hotel are very friendly and do their best, it appears that capital reinvestment is minimal. They seem to be lacking clear guiding principles regarding guest experience that need to be regularly shared with the staff.

Unfortunate on the whole as the pricing does not justify the experience.

The hotel is located inside an old restored abbey. The location is stunning but not readily accessible through the autoroute. In other words, you have to know it is there and once you are there, you are there. Fortunately, the hotel has a restaurant and a nice breakfast buffet. The rooms are furnished in a more classic style with a complete bathroom. Don’t expect anything modern here. This is a higher standard line of hotels ideal for special celebrations.

Beautiful Location and helpful, friendly staff!

The hotel was most accommodating when our already late evening flight was delayed. My family and I arrived at 2A, weary travelers! The hotel left envelopes taped outside and a regular The Amazing Race clues on how to get to our suite, complete with arrows taped to doorways etc. Absolutely amazing of them!

We were in a family suite that, unfortunately was treacherous with steep, winding staircase. Once inside there was another winding staircase to primary bed. This was not the photos I’d seen on this site. Might have been what was left due to our late arrival? . Fortunately we were able to “manage” them but don’t know if anyone else would have been able to, especially at 2A.
The property is wonderful, delightful staff that are eager to please with an amazing breakfast at an additional cost.
Swimming pool was also nice!

This is an amazing historical property with wonderful views from the top of the mountain across the valley below. Arrival at night was tricky, so only complaint was underlit driveway and parking with no clear signage to the registration desk. I parked and wondered around the property until I asked the first staff I saw to direct me to the registration desk. The rooms are all unique and provide a stay like no other. The breakfast was a bit pricey for the items offered, but it was cute. Staff were all great and very attentive. Did not have an opportunity to attend the spa, but it looked inviting.

Wonderful, except for the food

We spent a few days here between road trip spots. The hotel is very traditional and really beautiful, and has a great view over the countryside. Our rooms were different but both great, and we really enjoyed exploring the nearby towns - we visited Gordes and Lourmarin on two evenings and both were beautiful and under an hours' drive.
Overall we had a great time, but we were a little let down by the food. The breakfast buffet didn't seem to be replenished over the course of the morning, so arriving at 9am usually meant the cooked food was already gone. We had one dinner in the hotel which was good, but we found too expensive for the quality we received.

All rooms not created equal

We stayed 3 nights. St. Blaise had a no air-conditioning for the 90-degree weather and no air flow for the extremely humid bathroom. We were also awoken at 3am but drunk brits running naked through the halls screming.

Subsequently we inquired about switching rooms (and were initially told the hotel was full), but were subsequently switched to St. Frederick which had two functioning A/C's and multiple windows for a cross breeze.

Would definitely return but would call the hotel to confirm the room.

We had a lovely stay altogether. The only mishap we had was on our first night at the restaurant. The restaurant service was a disaster. We waited one and a half hours for our main plate apart from other issues. Although we complained there was no real feedback from their end which is a pity as the place is so beautiful.

This is a beautiful hotel with history and character having been an old 12 th century monastery.Everywhere you went there was a glimpse of the medieval history. The room was charming and the well equipped- the private patio was wonderful! I dined 3 times in the restaurant the food was exquisite. Most of the staff were very helpful and when asked went out of their way to help
or fix problems- especially Jeremie. I would like to return with my husband for a romantic stay.
We will enjoy the spa there and a cocktail looking over the view😊
Just a couple of issues that could be addressed : it did get tiring explaining that I was a single person ( although married) traveling by herself. They never seemed to feel comfortable with my status until the end, especially at the restaurant.
Also I am in my 60s and good health but the 36 narrow steps to get to my room were challenging - I could not bring up my large suitcase. Also There was also no landing at the top to safely stand when you wrestled with the old fashioned lock and several times I could have lost my balance and fallen back down stairs. Similarly the pool had steps up to pool and none to get in or out of pool. so people should check with hotel if they have mobility issues.

This is a beautiful little hotel set high on a hill over looking the valley between Salon de Provence and Aix en Provence. We had a large room with our own roof top deck. The staff was fantastic, the pool was beautiful, the restaurant was good...a very relaxing and central location to launch your exploration of the Provence region. We would go back there for sure.

The Abbaye is located on a tall hill outside of Salon-de-Provence and is easy to find with Google Maps. The building itself is charming - our suite (St. Michel) had barreled stone ceilings and two roof-top terraces, the upper one reached by a spiral staircase - both with wonderful views of the valley below. The Suite was very comfortable and the bathroom is modern. AC available if needed.
We ate two nights in the restaurant, which was just excellent and reasonably priced. As a vegetarian I felt well cared for. The buffet breakfasts were also excellent.
The hill behind the hotel has several ruined buildings on it - old fortifications. One has what looks like a modern fire observation post on top of it, that just tells you how good the view is. There is also a ridge extending below the elevation of the hotel with a historic cross and excellent views beyond.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke English very well, which as non-French speakers traveling in France we appreciate very much.
I left my laptop charger in the room when we checked out, and they were nice enough to return it to me back in the US.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Really enjoyed the whole experience.

Beautiful location, and grounds. Charming buildings and excellent place to have dinner and take in the view. Food and food service were top notch. The decks on the suite are a fantastic place to relax after a day of exploring with sweeping views with a lot character. The staff were all very helpful (exception of one preoccupied with personal phone so as to forget about our request for drinks to be delivered to poolside, got remedied after the second visit to front desk 30 minutes later). Improvement feedback I would offer is : Offer help with heavy bags instead of letting customers drag across sandy parking lot and up windy narrow stair well (this is an old building),; maybe a cart to roll the bags from parking lot to hotel would be a good start. The bathroom smelled and when I gave that feedback they attributed it to the age of the property , a bit of a turn off. I think more can be done to freshen the smell of the toilet area of the room. The AC were not effective but it was cooler at night so we opened the windows.

Great location, great view ... but that was about it. Rooms were not clean at all. Dust in the corners and under the bed. Airco? Never heard of it! Staff was friendly and helpful but really could not make a difference, so it's up to the management to do the necessary improvements. Restaurant was too expensive for what you get. Breakfast more or less OK but no personal touch or with local products what you would expect in that price range. Poor WiFi by the way.

Lovely setting

Excellent location, the abbey is a beatific building. The staff were really accommodating, and helpful. Only negative was that we arrived after 3pm and had not had lunch, but unfortunately as the kitchen was closed we were unable to get a sandwich and had to wait until the evening to eat in the restaurant. I would suggest that room service or food in the bar is available throughout the day.

Lovely place to stay. Just a shame about the WiFi. The signal varies around the hotel, which is understandable. It's an old building with thick walls. It's the connection from the hotel to the internet that's the problem. Want to find out how bad things were before decent broadband? Stay here!

Outstanding hotel and restaurant

Outstanding hotel with a wonderful view of the Provence landscape. The restaurant, which propose only one menu, is managed by a chef that only use natural, fresh and tasty products. The staff is friendly and cares a lot about your comfort. It is located about 30 min from Marignanne in a quiet location.

Uniquely styled hotel

A very individual hotel. The view from the terrace is wonderful and weather permitting, meals are served on the terrace, including breakfast. They have retained the abbey character which means that our room was a bit stark. The pillows were unfortunately awful. We ran out of toilet paper which the hotel staff were very embarrassed about. Small things make a difference. The restaurant menu was restricted to one choice during our stay which I assume is not indicative of the usual restaurant service. The food was well cooked but the staff a bit stretched. A pretty location

Arrived at 1:30am due to unforeseen twelve hour flight delay. Signs left all over hotel directing us to our room. I cried from the relief. It was so personalized. Location is unique and sent down from heaven. Room doomed like a honey comb where monks used to reside. Breakfast was amazing, healthy and plentiful. Dining area tranquil. Views to take your breath away. Lunch was a sumptuous gourmet affair. Two thumbs up and five star experience.

Fantastic view

You could see from the start the hotel has a charm and the most amazing view, however it was in need of some updating to the general facilities which were very tired. We thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt and booked dinner for that evening in the restaurant which was meant to be a gastronomic experience.

That night we dressed smartly for dinner and were shown to our table by the maitre'd who provided us with the menus he pointed out that we might prefer the set menu an assumption on his part. Five minutes later the canapés arrived but no offer of a drink either water or alternative, we had made our menu choice and chosen our wine and the menus were of the table and we were waiting for them to take our order. In the meantime other guest had arrived had drinks served to them and my partner and I looked at each other both thinking the same thing. After sitting there for 40 minutes we got up and left, we seemed to have been invisible to the staff. The look on the maitre'd face was of shock although he made no attempt to find out why we were going.

At breakfast requests for tea and coffee were often delayed and tea served stewed. They ran out of croissants and you had to wait while they heated more, some 20 minutes, ash trays left by cutlery full of cigarette butts, wine corks on the floor from the night before and tables of finished breakfast left uncleared. The staff were trying to do their best but seem to have been given no training. Such a shame.

Absolute gem restored abbey in Provence

We stayed in the quiet season for only two nights, so probably were spoilt by helpful staff. They even lit the fire just for us to take an aperitif. This is one of the nicest places in Europe if you like the old world charm of sleeping in a renovated monastery in a remote location. We had the two best dinners we have ever eaten, so make sure you dine there. The view from the terrace overlooking the green fields and waterways of Provence was glorious, even in winter. Ideal for couples, but it would be great for children to explore as well. Make sure you take a walk across the hilltops. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, but it is hard when there are only a few guests. We have learned it is better to take it in your room in those circumstances.

A Provençal beauty

What a delight to drive up a country road and enter the exquisite property of L'Abbaye de Saint Croix . The gardens , the old Provençal buildings , the pool , the views are all breathtaking . We only had one night to spend but could have stayed a week . The restaurant terrace overlooking olive groves and mountains in the distance is a perfect place to relax , drink some excellent wine and enjoy the delicious cuisine . The beds were very comfortable with crisp , smooth linens and the room very clean .

Perfect setting, great staff

This is a beautiful hotel perched on the top of a beautiful Provence landscape, with one of the most incredible views reaching out to the coast. Meals and drinks are served overlooking this in a truly beautiful and romantic setting. Food exquisite and nothing too much trouble for all the staff. A real gem - will definitely be returning. Pure tranquility!

Luxury accomodations in a central location

The accomodations in a standard room were good.
The staff was all courteous and very helpful.
The only pontential drawback is that it was luxury/gastronomic all the way -- no simple, cheap dinner on-site. The solution to this is to plan meals in town.

I have already recommended the Abbaye and the locale to others.
