Stayed in a private room, it was bigger than expected and much nicer than a dorm, with toiletries and a fridge/kettle included. Best nights sleep on my 2 week trip round Cambodia and vietnam. There were 2 windows high on the wall into the corridor, which seemed weird as they were open when I got into the room so I could hear everyone in the hallway, they should have blinds etc ideally to stop the light coming in overnight. We also didn't know the main entrance woukd be closed and shuttered up at a certain time, or how to get in when we came back to find this. A bit more info at check in woukd have been good.

It's handy to go everywhere in Disrict 1. The hostel is located in a narrow lane. There is a local market just outside the lane. It's very dirty. Room's size is around 70 sq. ft. only! I would not say it's comfortable. The staffs of the kitchen providing the breakfast are not friendly and their English is very limited. The portion of the breakfast is too small.

Excellent hostel for value of 3 stars hotel

Very close to night week end market, lots of reataurants, tour / excursions , bus office, long distance bus stop and local bus station very convenience to go every where also a local market in front of alley . I shopped daily here all employees are very helpful will out of their ways to help me when ask, recommend to everyone to budget & travellers who like value for their money. I will definetely come back to stay at this hotel. Simple and clean like new, new renovated in 2-3 month . Best place in the area after walked around

Lovely staff, clean comfortable room

We spent 8 nights here in February 2018. Upon arrival we were given free juice! The room as very clean and comfortably equipped with two reading chairs, two bedside tables, a mini fridge, a kettle, bathroom supplies, and a wardrobe. We found out the next night they have a happy hour where guests get a free Saigon green from 6-8pm. The included breakfast had lots of choices revolving ariund baguette, eggs, and noodles. It ran from 6:30-9:30, but they were sometimes out of noodles if we got there after 9. They helped us get info about tours and transport to our next city. We used the laundry service and were pleased. We brought it down before noon and it was ready that evening. The only downside of the whole place was that our room was right next to the stairs on the first floor and sound travelled from the lobby very easily. If you are sensitive to noise, request a room on the second floor or above (there is an elevator if that's a concern).

Nice hotel close to the markets and done town.

My experience was great overall the staff was really friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean daily, I could get to downtown in less than 30 minutes. If I needed help getting a taxi the staff would help me.

Comfortable and Clean Basic Hostel

Everything is good. No complains. It is a simple basic hotel and value for your money, clean rooms and lobby. Staff is ever helpful, humble and friendly. We stayed in the private room with queen bed, attached toilet.

The hostel is situated at the end of Pham Nga Lu road, with landmark, local market, Cho Thai Binh and a roundabout. Use this as a guide for your to search the hostel. It is at the alley of the market, after the stretch of shops along Pham Nga Lu road. Go to the market in the morning to have breakfast, a variety of local street food selection is available. Do try out the Caramel Creme Flan in the market. Refreshing. You can also buy fresh local fruits in the market. The hotel is also situated slightly further from the center point of attraction, Ben Thanh Market. This should not set you back, as you only need to walk about 15mins along the happening Pham Nga Lu road and the garden to the Ben Thanh. There is also a local supermarket chain, approx 15 mins walk to Co.opmart Chon Quynh, and option for cheaper selection and that is also where the local shop for their daily needs.

Take the hostel taxt to the airport, price at USD 10.
Recommended and will stay here again.

Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, clean rooms.

Clean, friendly hostel in a good location. Really helpful staff who give great recommendations for the area and are available and on hand to help.
Secure safe space to store valuables in lockers, and good size dorm rooms so it doesn't feel overcrowded.
The 'free beer between 5-7pm' is a great time to meet other travellers and has a lovely vibe, slightly quieter than the nearby party hostels meaning you get a good nights sleep! Would recommend and would return back if ever in Ho Chi Minh again!

Budget option that delivers solid basic comfort

Phan Anh is a budget option in HCMC that delivers everything you could reasonable expect for the price, and more. The place is hard to find, down an alley at the far end of the backpackers zone in District 1. Once in the hotel, the staff are friendly, the room was clean, the breakfast is very high quality and made to order, and the location is convenient. Its a no frills kind of place, but there are literally thousands of backpacker hostels within 1 kilometer, and I doubt any of them could do a better job at the basics than the Phan Anh did. Used their car service to return to airport, costs $10, right on time and excellent service and value. Recommended

Located down backpackers alley, Phan Anh Backpackers Hostel was great. Upon first walking into the lobby, the staff was very friendly and accommodating to the point of showing up to the room. The room as simple, yet clean. Bed was a bit hard but had no problems getting a good night sleep. Hostel is located near some great restaurants and nightlife around the corner or within walking distance. Met some great people during the daily happy hour. Would stay here again.

Unfriendly to Asians

Overall good, clean, convenient place to stay for a good price. They provide clean towels everyday and housekeeping keeps the room very clean. Our triple room had a fridge. There's an elevator and free beer in the evenings. No communal area, just a small sitting area at reception & tiny kitchen so have to take turns for breakfast, which is free.

The guys who cook breakfast are unfriendly & grumpy, they always said no noodles left but we saw them cooking noodles for themselves. Anyway the baguettes were amazing so we were happy to have that for 6 days.

Only 1 girl was friendly & helpful, the other 4 staff were unfriendly to us. We thought it's just the culture that people there don't smile, until we saw a white British girl checking in - they were so friendly, smiling & chatting with her, helped her with her luggage & even gave her a free welcome drink - none of which we got. So we realized then that they were only nice to white people and not Asians.

Lots of hostels/guesthouses in the area at the same price including breakfast. I would stay at a different place next time with hopefully better service.

Great location, clean, okay breakfast

I stayed in a 6 bed female-only dorm. It was clean. It was quiet. The staff were helpful. I exchanged money there and also got my laundry done. The hotel provided free breakfast to all guests. Baguette or sandwich, eggs cooked to order, watermelon, and coffee or juice. The bread was very dry and kind of hard to eat. The staff would also forget who ordered what, but the kitchen was very small so if it wasn't one person's, it was probably the guy's siting next to him. The free beer between 7-9pm is a nice touch!

Good hotel, bad booking system

We stayed here for two nights and wanted to extend. The hotel is very clean, tidy and a really great breakfast. We were let down unfortunately when we decided to extend our stay. They said that there were no rooms available according to their book but Hotels.com said 3 rooms available. So they told us we could stay at the 'other' hotel which wasn't as nice. We ended up leaving the next day so didn't stay an extra night. Really bad practice to not update online when you take a booking and I feel sorry for the people who arrive with a booking and have no room available.

We actually didn't stay in this hostel. Once we arrived there, we was informed air-condition broken, so we were transferred to another sister hostel, named Phan Lan Hotel. Th staffs are friendly, helpful, speak simple english. the room is clean, a little bit small but still comfy to stay. This hotel is located at a good location. Tourist attractions just located nearby.

Great location

Couple, booked a private room that was on the top floor. Very quiet and modern with a great rate. Only problems were we had cold showers the whole 3 days-4 nights stay (but it's not so bad since it was so hot) due to the hostel using solar water heaters and that services were offered at Western prices such as laundry and refreshments. Breakfast is free but limited.

Great value for your money

My wife and I were traveling through vietnam, flashpacker style. It's down a quiet alley right by a local market. The surrounding area is sort of the backpacker's area for HCMC; tons of local tour guide storefronts, restaurants, bars, and some street food. The front desk person was very helpful in terms of orienting us and getting us information for booking our next leg of our journey. We had no problems with the room (AC worked, shower had no problems, linens are clean). We'd stay there again.

Fantastic Service

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel. Upon arrival, the booking agency had made an error, but the staff accomodated immediately without causing any fuss. Both the manager and the staff were very friendly and went out of the way to ensure that my issues were addressed. Overall, the hotel was excellent. The only minor issue was the slow drainage in the bathroom shower. As a social place, the other dorm was an excellent place to meet other fellow travellers. Location was within striking distance of all major destinations and the pub street is very close. Would definitely recommend this place to others.

The hotel is up a small alley off Pham Ngu Lao and makes a nice little hideaway from the rest of the busy area. It's walking distance to the main backpacker strip and maybe 15 minutes walk to Ben Thanh.

The best thing about the hotel are the reception staff who are all very helpful and great at their jobs

Lobby was nice and as represented in the pics. They had no record of our reservation after traveling half way around the world until I worked with the girl working the desk to search her emails from Hotels.com for my name and there it was... after a while they moved someone, and gave us a room... only a dirty mattress pad was on the bed, no sheets (not sure if this is common but we didn't have sleeping bags or sheets), not enough english was spoken (which is understandable, we were in Vietnam) by the helper to understand that we wanted/ needed sheets... we used the free wi-fi to find another place to stay and left. They were very kind and helpful and refunded the money. I'll agree, my expectations of a hostel were probably too high, this seems like a nice place and was clean in a great location of HCM City.

The road that leads into the hostel isnt that nice but don't worry the hostel is amazing. In the morning there is a little food market 5 metres from the hostel door. The bed is kind of hard, but bearable. Rooms are really clean, and the staff are soooo helpful and friendly ! We loved talking to them. Breakfast is simple but tasty.

Great place for all to stay while visiting Saigon

I highly recommend the Phan Anh Hostel for its quality of service, location, condition, and cost. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, they make you feel at home. All rooms are air conditioned with a window and have lockers for storing luggage. The bathrooms are western style and everything is relatively new. Beds are comfortable and clean. Tours of Saigon and the surrounding area can be arranged at the hostel. A great place for anyone to stay.

What a Gem!

We stayed as a family with our 19 year old daughter. Booked 3 nights but stayed an additional night. When we arrived I had booked the wrong size room but with no hassel whatsoever we were able to change to the correct room and book an additional night. The staff were very helpful and nothing was a problem. Their recommendations were very reliable with quality/competitive tours bookable at reception. Breakfast was adequate. Would highly recommend this backpackers as believe our private room and the service was the quality of a hotel. The location was also ideal as we were able to walk to all of main the central sights.

The hotel is located down the alley next to a small market, plenty of shopping, food, and taxis can be found directly outside of the hotel. The hotel is VERY CLEAN and comfortable. The staff is friendly, and can arrange tours, and they have a cheap laundry service as well. Definitly recommend this hotel.

空港から109番バスに乗り、9月23日公園バスターミナルで降りた。地元の人にネットで印刷した地図住所を示すと、すぐに指さして教えてくれた。夕方、暗くなってからの時間だったので、見つかるだろうかと不安であったが、難なく見つけることができた。ホステルでは従業員が24時間対応してくれたが、私が滞在した5日間は宿泊者に日本人いないなど、宿泊客に日本人が少ないためか従業員との日本語でのやり取りは全く通用しなかった。欧米の宿泊者、世界中の宿泊者が泊まっていた。そして、英語が世界の共通語のように話されていた。私は英語があまりできないため、文字に書いての筆談、身振りでの会話で5日間を過ごした。従業員の方たちは、一応に親切であるように思った。ホーチミンでのツアーは、宿を通して参加した。宿まで迎えが来てくれて、ツアーバスまで案内してくれた。帰りは、知らないところで降ろされたが、道行く人に宿の住所が書いてあるメモを見せると，どの人も一生懸命教えてくれた。

โฮลเทลสะอาด ตกแต่งน่ารัก พนักงานให้การช่วยเหลือเป็นอย่างดี ทุกอย่างดีหมด ยกเว้นอย่างเดียวโฮลเทลอยู่ไกลไปหน่อย แต่ก็มีแท็กซี่ผ่านตลอด หรือจะใช้บริการรถบัสก็มีสถานีรถบัสอยู่ด้านหน้าทำให้สะดวกสบายมากขึ้น

Don't book if you need sleep, bustickets are scams

I never wrote a review, but after my bad experiences in this hostel i really feel the need.
Pro: it's clean and they fixed our aircon after the first hot night
Cons:
- beds are too hard, even for asian standards (i've slept all over sout east asia in hostels and hotels)
- sleep is not possible as the hostel allows locals to scream during the night in the reception area untill 2.30 am
- the bustickets they sell are a scam, we've paid for a sleeper to Phnom Penh with the reasonable mekong express with pickup from hotel. However the pickup means you have to walk to the busstop with a guide. Arriving at the busstop we found out that they booked us on what can only be described as a cargotruck with a sidebussiness of passenger travel. Seats are broken, and on the floor are all kinds of goods so that you cannot place your feet there. Next to that they stop ever 5 minutes to pick up extra cargo. This was definately not mekong express, but a company called phuong heng.

Overall, what could have been a nice stay at a clean hostel was ruïned.

Zimmer waren sauber und wurden alle 2 Tage gereinigt. Zahnbürsten und Pflegeartikel standen zur Verfügung. Sehr zentral gelegen und das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend. Das Frühstück war auch sehr lecker. Super Preis Leistung Verhältniss. Zum weiterempfehlen!

Sauberes Dorm und Bad, sicher und gutes WIFI. Perfekt für Backpackers. Einzige Manko: Obere Betten sind etwas schwer zu besteigen und leider keine Duschartikel. Die Walking Street ist nur eine Straßenecke weit entfernt.

Zimmer sind sauber geputzt, die Wände selbst sind nicht sauber. Frühstück, sprich eine Tasse Kaffee oder Tee, ein trockenes vietnamesisches Baguette und ein Omlette + 2 Stück Obst, serviert in der Küche ohne Fenster!

狹窄巷弄裡難找的旅店

飯店位置偏，但床舒適，離搭巴士的地方較遠，離熱鬧地方較遠，晚上較不安全，附近也很黑暗。
很奇怪的明明寫著24小時，但晚上會把鐵門拉下來，還以為自己走錯地方，要按電鈴才會開門，凌晨回去店員整個睡死，還要把他搖醒。
店員的態度看似親切，但感覺只是在做他們的工作而已，其實待客也沒有很友善，當然也友比較友善的店員。
感覺這種東西因人而異，店員的態度讓我不是很滿意。

A l arrivé, ils me disent qu ils n ont plus de chambre (alors que j ai bien reservé a l avance et que mon compte a ete debité). Ils m ont mis ds un autre hotel.
La chambre sentait mauvais, pas de fenetre.
Je n ai pas du tt aimé cette experience

À ce prix là on ne peut être exigeant, chambre 1 étage gauche, je ne sais pas ce qui est le plus dur, le lit ou une planche de bois !!! Dans une petite ruelle calme.
