The guy at breakfast was miserable, all the cups for coffee & tea were dirty. I bought it to his attention by putting the cups & saucers off to the side, he just put them back under the counter for use the next day. When I came for breakfast he makes a big deal of taking a cup out & washing it out for me in front of everyone there, guess this is one place I’ll not return too.

Delightful little place with a lovely pool. Unfortunately the water lost pressure twice over the three days that we were there, meaning we had no water to even wash our hands. Wifi was also constantly dropping, which most folk would find difficult. Staff were short at peak times over breakfast, and we felt very sorry for them - they could do with more support

Villa Puri Ayu has a lot going for it:
It's in a pretty good location. You're just outside the busiest area of Sanur so you won't get a lot of foot traffic, but you're close enough to walk toward that area (and the mall) if you really want to (30-ish minute walk). There's quite a few shops to buy souvenirs and a supermarket nearby. Breakfast is provided and is pretty good but had the same dishes. Plenty of restaurants nearby, and my room had a functional kitchen with a medium sized fridge. The rooms are spacious, there are a few pools to swim/sunbathe.

Honestly overall really good at their price point, but there are a few things that may affect your decision to stay here:
The air conditioning in room was pretty weak, it can feel a bit warm/humid throughout the day in the villa, especially when the sun is out. Had some trouble sleeping because of this.
Some things are a bit worn/old. It took a lot of effort to lock my door every time I leave since it doesn't line up properly without some adjusting, and my bathroom door was creaky and noisy to open.
The road it is on does not lead directly to the beach, you'll need to walk around another way.
Not a whole lot of service from the staff, no phone in room to call the front desk either.

In summary, it's excellent value but can be pretty different from a typical hotel/resort stay.

Often requested cleaning at certain time when headed out and this was carried out promptly

Great location -easily take pram down to the beach esplanade & walk for many kms. So convenient! Mini markets & supermarket in close proximity. Restaurants right on doorstep. Alley leading to beach is quite dark in the evening, but felt perfectly safe at all times

One of the pools shaded by trees, great when avoiding to be in the sun all day

Could be improved:
baby pool was quite hot at times especially afternoons

High chairs need replacing - mentioned this to staff so hopefully they are onto it already

Daily cleaning was not too thorough. Wish they swept the floor a bit more. Bed was always made impeccable

Grand apartment is more of a studio = 1 large room to sleep, eat, play, work, with the kitchen area (cabinets for storage, microwave, kettle, sink), and a well appointed bathroom with large shower

A toaster in the room would be great. Fridge is only minibar size.
Staff was happy to toast bread for me anytime. They also cut up fruit for other's that I saw which is such a lovely service

Just horrible, first room urine stains on mattress, smelly, saliva stained pillows. So we got moved to another room which was no better as seen in photos and this was the newer area. I could live with broken fixtures but dirty mattresses that’s going too far. Breakfast bowls chipped, just no concern for others health and safety. And the towels, either marked, blood stains or holes in them. No one should stay here.

Pros: Decent location and good value. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast included both western and Indonesian options. On site surf and SUP rentals. Cons: wifi in the room was spotty but otherwise was working well in public areas. The place could use a bit of repairs - the plaster was peeling in our bathroom and the door handle was very loose.

Make sure you get one of the new rooms.

I stayed at the Villa Puri Ayu as a low cost hotel that is close to the beach.
The newer rooms are slightly more expensive but are so much better than the old rooms which are very tired.
It is not a 5 star hotel, so the services available are minimal, but the newer rooms are very much fit for purpose. The breakfast is basic but perfectly adequate, and there are many other choices around if you do not want to take advantage of the free breakfast.
I would like to point out that although the beds were made well each day, the sheets are not changed daily, but then again they aren't at home either!
Overall, perfectly adequate for the price with friendly staff.

Our room in the new section was very dark. Needed Windows. The room was clean and we loved the bath. The shower mixer fell off in your hand :(. The small pool had missing tiles and mould around the edges. The big pool was fine. We used the free bikes. They could use a little maintenance. The restaurant and frount of house wear great. Gave us everything we asked for and breakfast was good too. Thank you

I Liked the property's location. In the last 2 years the other section of Puri Ayu fronting the main street has been developed, and the back section in which I staryed had good rooms but greatly neglected gardens. The gardens were looking very run down. I missed the back sections smorgasboard breakfast as we now had to walk up to the main smorgasboard for breakfast, and didn't have reception nearby. Nevertheless, good for the price. I would stay there again happily.

Not the most fabulous place I have stayed at. The room was concrete, there was no tea or coffee but there was a kettle and cups.
Maybe the older rooms would have a bit more flare.
It was comfortable enough and the breakfast looked good.
Had a little trouble explaining to the staff that my companions and I had coeliac disease and that we wanted them to cook nasi goreng using our soy sauce. I could have been a better communicator but there was no coffee in my room so wasn't at my best. A couple of us still ended up unwell from cross contamination.

Nice hotel for the price point. Not lavish, but functional and in a great location close to the beach and the restaurant strip in Sanur. The internet wifi was patchy, great at times and sloooow at peak times, but I think that is the norm for Bali hotels. We don't go to Bali to sit on-line all day anyway. Breakfasts were good too which was a bonus.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment and it was like a separate house with an enclosed garden patio. It would be a great place to stay for a long period of time. It’s large with a full kitchen. It’s a little dated and not on the beach but close.

Wonderful little place to stay.

I continue to return to this wonderful little place.
The staff are open and friendly, I feel completely safe traveling and staying by myself.
Brilliant little place close to everything that you need in Sanur, very quiet.
This is not a great big impersonal place, it is a small well run little place that you can relax at where people use you name at breakfast.
They have recently opened new rooms so check them out as well.
Great little place I would highly recommend.

Basic amenities like kettle and hair dryer were supplied upon request. However no coffee, tea or hair conditioner supplied. Bed was comfortable and room reasonably clean. Staff were friendly and courteous. We enjoyed the peacefulness that a small place can bring.

This is a wonderful little hotel tucked away down a side street. The staff are wonderful and friendly. It is an old style experience, however they have just built new rooms if you like everything brand new. I loved the outdoor bathroom in my room and the huge tub.

Nothing had changed since our last visit, just a lot more worn out and tired. The bed was comfortable but squeaked every time you moved, and the sheets were discoloured and had small holes. The staff start sweeping up leaves at 8.15am and make a lot of noise guess they're not on holiday. The room service lady is knocking on the door before 9am so make sure you put the do not disturb sign out. The Internet goes for 5 mins at a time then you have to refresh. They are building a new part to the villa and say they will do a makeover of the older units. The villa is close to the beach and restaurants, so we will visit again in 3 years and hopefully it's all clean and tidy

Villa Puri Ayu - what a great place.

Villa Puri Ayu is in a great part of Sanur - laid back and not to crowded. Close to some cool cafes and eateries of Jalan Cemera. (Also checkout Jack Fish warung on the beach!). The staff are great and the villas lovely. We stayed in a two bedroom with kitchen and lounge, with a private entrance and gates. Really cool. The breakfasts were great - simple buffet style - also, the old chef makes the most delicious omelettes in Bali. Seriously tasty. The pool was never crowded. Cool and deep. The kids loved it. We'll be back, but not soon enough!

Great value for money

My 4th time in Bali and my friend's first. She fell in love with the place. Staff very helpful, even mending friend's sunglasses. We stayed in a villa with a thatched roof, and a small pool outside in a courtyard. After one very heavy downpour of rain we had to wade through water to get to breakfast! The hotel is situated half way between beach and mainstreet which abounds with eateries. Whilst hotel has surf and paddle boards available, down on the beach there are all sorts of water activities available for a price e.g. glass bottomed boat, sailing, parasailing, kite surfing, snorkelling etc.
I admire the philosophy of training the Balinese in hospitallity and Bahasa so they can go on to working in big hotels with more opportunities available to them. We are two senior ladies in our 70's.

Cons: Don't book the villas (Diamond). Its really bad condition. Old and non-functioning. Got a free upgrade to emrald loft which is much better. Really 3 star quality. Will not book again.

Hidden gem of peace and tranquility

Loved this villa - highly recommended to anyone looking for peace and quiet in a great location! Quick and friendly welcome and check in on arrival; gorgeous little villa with king bed and spacious bathroom with magnificent shower (big shower head a dream for those with long thick hair and in need a good wash!). Aircon and wifi all working a treat. Egg station at breakfast was awesome - your eggs are cooked with love. You have the option of using the nearby hotel facilities for food but I loved my omelette at the villa's so there was no need to try anywhere else. Two gorgeous pools to choose from. The villa is in a great location too! Tucked away down a laneway - 2 minute walk to the beach in one direction (and very near Power of Now Oasis Yoga) and 2 minute walk to the main street in the other direction (Poplars supermarket nearby). I am a female solo traveller and felt very safe here (despite the laneway seeming like it might be dodgey - it wasn't). Everyone is friendly except the money changers - watch out for the dodgey dudes - go to official exchanges. This place is excellent value for money and only have high praise! Thank you :-)

We have just arrived home from Bali, and it's the second time we have stayed at Villa Puri Ayu, the last time was about 6 years ago.
The staff were great on our arrival which was a very late flight, and we didn't arrive until around 1am in the morning. Our room was lovely and cool, and exactly what we booked, outdoor bathroom, and kitchen, and secluded garden.
The staff are friendly and always smiling. The breakfast was lovely and fresh with fruit, eggs, anyway you like them, toast, cereal, bacon and other varieties including rice and noodles.
Room service was prompt, and the dinner was delicious.
They are renovating / building, but no noise was ever heard. The only little hick up we had was the kitchen area is very outdated, but that will be sorted.
Another bonus was the water dispenser, we was full, and we made ice each day in the excellently cold large fridge.
I have no hesitation in staying there again, close to the beach, bars and restaurants, and away from the madness and mayhem

A charming hotel with much need of rescuing

This hotel is very difficult to review! No doubt one upon a time it must have been great, but now it needs serious maintenance and refurbishment. Having said this, and ignoring the maintenance issues, the hotel has its charms and it grows on you. I would recommend it to budget travellers and backpackers. If you are hoping for luxury, this is not your hotel. My favourite part was the swimming pool.

Booked family villa for 6 nights lasted 2. A checklist of working appliances would be beneficial. Felt like we were on maintainance duty. Unfortunately this continued with the upgrade to the diamond villa. Great space but things kept breaking.

Thankfully only had to stay here one night. Arrived about 9pm , check in was painfully slow and things didn't get any better from there. Our three bedroom villa had seen much better days. The furniture was old and tatty, the bathroom was awful and the roof leaked.

This place is within walking distance to the beach and main street of Sanur. We loved its central location. The villas are old. We stayed in the one bedroom loft with stairs. The stairs are very steep. The bathroom needs a renovation. The refrigerator had no door on the freezer, so everything froze. The pool is fantastic and the breakfast is excellent. We would describe these villas as ADEQUATE. The staff are great and very helpful. The villas need a bit of tender loving care.

This hotel might have looked as presented in the pictures, a long time ago. Now it is really tired and in desperate need for renovation.The setting is nice and you can just imagine how beautiful this place could be if refurbished.

The rooms are large and you can see that sometime ago they looked nice. Now, the bathroom has no door (not even a curtain between the toilet and bedroom), the floors are really dirty, the bed linen stained.

The breakfast setting looks nice, before getting to close to see the ripped and stained tablecloths. The breakfast is decent.

On the positive side: the staff is nice an friendly, the hotel is perfectly located close to the beach and lots of restaurants.

Great staff, secure and great location

We had a great time at Puri Ayu, staff was wonderful, friendly and helpful. Great location by the beach, 1 min walk (50m-100m walk). Massages by the beach, close to many kite surfing rental and schools and any water sports you can imagine. Safe hotel, 24h staff at door. Would definitely recommend 100% and come back. Amazing shower (so far the best we had in Indo). We had the deluxe room with King bed on the second floor which wasnt that much more expensive than standard and feel like it was definitely worth it but I havent seen the other rooms on ground floor. 5 star, amazing!

Great 3 star. Staff very helpful. One even brought some very young coconut for our 3yo who wasnt sleeping and it did the trick.

Lovely place staff so friendly

We had a fantastic time at Villa Puri Ayu. The staff were so helpful and friendly, there were no hassles and it made our stay so much nicer. Close to everything and it felt like we were staying in the real Bali. I would highly recommend this as a great place to stay.

Four star mmmmm?

No water (hot or cold) for two days Cold breakfast, no clean sheets, dirty room, in the end had to change hotels. Not a good experience at all.

greta spot for family close to beach and shops

Loved our stay at the hotel villa (2 bedroom).(2 adults 3 kids) Food was great, massages were oh so cheap and great. 100 metre walk down alley to beach and beach restauraunts. Staff were extremely polite and helpful with everything we asked. booking island trips etc. The manager always went an extra step to help. much appreciated. Price was excellent.Pools were excellent.
Only downside was not quite as good as pics in that the hotel was a little bit run down, rooms and facilities clean.

We loved our stay. A homely, comfortable place with lots of greenery everywhere. Such kind and considerate staff. Very nice breakfast and a chef who enthusiastically cooked us delicious eggs/omlettes. It is in a quiet location, but very close to the beach and the streets with resturants. Our room was comfortable and clean. Also enjoyed having use of the hotel's bikes for free. The kitchen produced very nice meals if we wanted to order through them. A very happy holiday. Perfect for those who want a quiet getaway.

I enjoyed my stay. It was close to shops, restaurants and beach. If you walked along the streets you got tooted at, (taxis looking for fares) . If you don't want one just ignore them and do not make eye contact.
My husband and I walked along the beach whenever we wanted to visit friends at other accommodation. This was a lot more pleasant and if you wanted to swim you could just jump in the sea, cool down, then continue your walk. Plenty of restaurants , eating places and in certain areas stores to shop in.
Accommodation was lovely, staff friendly but I did find the swimming pool a bit too warm to swim in. But it was better than nothing. We heard from others at other accommodations that their pools were just as warm. All they need is some form of shading to keep the sun off it and it would have been ideal.
All meals were lovely.

Another nice stay

I shall always stay at Villa Puri Ayu - it meets all my needs and the staff are always friendly and reliable. Not sure that i will go to Bali in December again - the weather was just beyond hot...even the locals were complaining. Of course that has nothing to do with the hotel... I will always recommend the place.

villa experience, disappointed with the pool, it was very dirty, breakfast was very ordinary, close to beach, down a dirty lane.
the room was nice and clean, air con just did the job, close to everything.

Not bad for a cheap price, but very run down.

We stayed at Villa Puri Ayu 3 years ago in the 1 bedroom apartment and we loved it.
Unfortunately when we have returned it really wasn't the same.

The staff welcoming us were lovely. We are traveling with an infant and they were great interacting with him while we checked in etc.

The premises are really run down since we were last there. The pool, whilst it has jade coloured tiles, water was green and murky you couldn't see past the surface. This is not what it was like last time.
The general up-keep of the whole place was not good.
Our room wasn't cool when we arrived at lunch time, we had the air conditioner on full fan 18 degrees and it wasn't until 3am that it started to feel cool.

Even then as soon as we turned it down 2 degrees it was warm again.

The garden in the 1 bedroom apartment was poorly maintained. The found was almost al dirt instead of grass.

The outdoor kitchen appliances I would not use to cook anything in.

The gas bottle for the stove was easily accessible for our infant. So many split levels in the garden area out baby kept falling. It became very unsafe so we had to check out and find somewhere else.

The staff were helpful and assisted us moving to another hotel.

Unfortunately they have let things go a bit. For the rate we got $65 per night, the bedding and towels were clean and the room was a pool. But if you are wanting to spend time in your room and in the pool it's best to choose somewhere else.

Lovely villa in southern, quieter part of Sanur

We stayed in the Emerald Loft which had two levels. Main bed upstairs and living area, kitchen and bathroom downstairs. The room was right by the pool which was also surrounded by lovely gardens full of flowers and wildlife including frogs, birds and squirrels. The staff at the Villa were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast included a range of Balinese and western food and lots of lovely local fruits to try. Bathroom was a bit shabby but still very nice with bath and shower and good toilet. Located within easy walk to beach on one side or shops, restaurants, massage places on the other side. Mini mart and ATM located just up the road on the corner. Family friendly.
