We stayed 4 nights at Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya and overall had a great experience. Transportation arranged through the resort was smooth and comfortable, and check-in was pleasant with champagne offered while we waited. Afterward, a golf cart took us to our room.

The room was modern with nice built-in tech like Bluetooth speakers and electronic “Do Not Disturb” panels. Two small drawbacks were the smoke detector above the bed flashing all night and a very loud coffee machine.

The food was excellent. We especially enjoyed L’Olivo (Italian), La Hacienda (Mexican), and Mar y Tierra (steak & seafood). The breakfast buffet had great variety, Cafe Sisal was perfect for coffee and desserts, and the food trucks were great for lunch.

Activities were a highlight - carbine shooting, Zumba, and pool games. Israel, Carlos, and Pablo from the entertainment team were fantastic. The property is beautiful and very clean, and seeing coatis and iguanas around the resort was a fun touch. The beach itself is beautiful, although we were unlucky with heavy seaweed during our stay so swimming wasn’t possible.

The only real downside was the pool lounge situation. Guests reserve chairs very early (around 5 AM). When I moved unattended items after confirming with staff it was allowed, another guest threatened me. The resort should remind guests at check-in and clear chairs before the pool opens at 7 AM.

Overall we had a great stay and would absolutely return to this resort.

I would really give this resort a 3.5. There is a lot to love here- the grounds a beautiful and very well maintained, and the room we stayed in (Dunas) was very nice with convenient tech and ocean views. The entertainment, specifically the Imperial Band was excellent, and most of the staff were great, the activities directors were engaging and Maria at Mar y Tierra was a standout. The spa was great.
However, the food was very disappointing. La Hacienda & L’Olivio were good as was Mar y Tierra which actually offered probably the best service of any restaurant. Everywhere else was disappointing and we tried every restaurant. The duck I had at L’Alsace was so over cooked it wasn’t discernible as duck. I wasn’t expecting Michelin star meals but for a 5 star resort the food was really subpar. Dining is a big part of vacationing for us so this was the biggest detractor. The drinks were also bad. Don Miguel was much better than any of the other bars as they found ways to balance their drinks but everything else uses terrible artificial sweeteners so we struggled to find something we enjoyed. Finding things to try was a pain because there are no menus onsite (QR code only) and outside the main hub the service is awful.
The room was nice but we chose it for the pool and it was unusably cold. Much colder than ambient temp. Also the filter was so loud you could hear it lying in bed.
Main pool loungers were gone before 10am.
Beautiful but not somewhere we’d want to return to.

The Valentin Imperial Rivera is a beautiful resort with exceptional nightlife, by far the best that I have seen in Riviera Maya. The Activities Team is excellent, plenty for the guests to do. The \"snacks\" in the room however are sparse, two bags of potato chips do not suffice as snacks. The restaurants are plentiful but unfortunately the majority require long trousers and collard shirts for men. This is unfortunate as this is a beach resort so one assumes that men can wear shorts. What is also unfortunate is that whilst the men have to conform to a dress code, quite a few women were ushered in looking quite slovenly. I believe one wore a tracksuit (micro shorts) to the Italian restaurant for dinner. Were they LV? doubt it, was she under dressed for a restaurant that had a dress code? Yes without a doubt. The restaurants do not take reservations, we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes. Once inside, the service was very quick and you were done eating within 40 mins. The food was good quality and beautifully served. The coffee shop had minimal pastries, which was disappointing but the breakfast buffet was top notch. Particularly enjoyed the Taco Trucks - great idea. What I didn't love was the check in service, it was poorly executed and quite frustrating. The staff showed a lack of training and customer service.

Super nice staff and awesome food! Main pool was awesome except remember to get there early due to people reserving chairs with towels. Would have given 5 stars but— we stayed in the new dunas suites which have a private pool. Pool was freezing the entire time and the sun hits the room in the morning and not again during the day so not really able to use the pool. Also the shower drain didn’t work and water leaked everywhere and soaked all of our stuff. Save some money and book a different room, not worth the price!

The grounds and faculty are really beautiful. The room was clean and comfortable. All of the staff we encountered was very friendly and helpful. Checking in and out was very efficient and easy. The food overall was very good. The perk for Expedia bookings to be able to make reservations at the themed restaurants ahead of time was great….otherwise there was usually a wait. Be prepared to walk a good bit, which we enjoyed, because the grounds are large and spread out. They do have golf cart shuttles running a good bit though. The coffee shop was top notch. The Imperial Band was great. I would definitely recommend this place to others. A hidden treasure in Rivera Maya.

The resort itself was a wonderful place to stay. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the pool area was excellent with a nice variety of drink options, and the landscaping throughout the property was beautiful and very well maintained.

There were, however, a few areas where improvements could be made. One suggestion would be to allow men to wear elegant open-toed sandals in the restaurants, similar to what is already permitted for women, as this would feel more consistent and inclusive with the resort’s overall upscale yet relaxed atmosphere.

Additionally, the dining experience fell short in one important area. The seafood served at each restaurant we visited both smelled and tasted very fishy, which suggested it was not fresh. This was disappointing given the otherwise high standards of the resort.

Finally, there was an unfortunate experience in the gift shop. My friend picked up a room-fragrance tester that had a loose top, which accidentally fell to the floor and broke. Despite it being clearly an accident—and despite the item being a tester that had already been expensed—the full retail cost of $59 was charged to my room. This felt unreasonable under the circumstances and detracted from an otherwise positive stay.

Overall, the resort has many strengths, but addressing these issues would significantly improve the guest experience.

Spent a lot of money to have ocean view room. However, the curtain rod was broken and drapes would not open. The drain in shower was plugged and water went all over the bathroom. Ants on balcony, unable to be outside. Save your money and find another resort. Will not be back.

The room was fine but everything was pretty bad.We only spoke with two friendly people the entire time we were there.One was a bar tender and one was a golf cart driver.Everyone else didn't want to help, pretended they didn't understand or would just walk away.We called the day before and asked for early check in between 8-10am.They said no problem.We showed up at 9:30 and was told our room would be ready at normal check in time, which is 3pm however with our Expedia package we were promised early check in. After complaining to the hotel manager we were able to check into a room at 12:45. The food was terrible. It was one of the main reasons we booked this resort as most of the all inclusives have sub par food, but the food reviews here were great. We got to the pool around 9:45am and they had recently power washed the pool tile which made it extremely slick and I slipped and caught myself before falling but in the process, stubbed my toe which cut it open. Called to get someone to help bandage it up and it was a bellhop that changed his shirt to look like he was medical personnel, but you could tell when bandaging my toe and cleaning it, he had no idea what he was doing.The bandage fell off about 45 mins later so a few hours later we called for assistance again. This time a real medical person came to help but wanted to charge us money. This is not standard for a small cut at a resort and put yet another bad taste in our mouth.Very spread out so expect lots of walking

First the good. Staff were generally excellent with a shout out to those in the Don Carlos bar!!

Now the bad…my room didn’t have a functioning phone for three days (a safety issue) and only half the TV channels for the entire week.

The main pool had a frat house vibe (loud music and partying) which was so very different from the upmarket vibe of the rest of the resort. The quiet pool was small and dirty. Everywhere, including the beach, was a “towels at dawn” situation. The beach was clean and swept regularly.

Food was hit or miss. Some really good dishes (perversely often with cold sides) but the buffet was poor compared to other resorts in the area. Service in the restaurants was excellent and the staff were very helpful in providing suggestions for both dishes and drinks.

Our third time to stay at Valentin Imperial. We are Premier Expedia member and eligible for a room upgrade. But everytime, they always say, we are full, for which I don’t believe 100%. They just don’t want to give us a room upgrade, I think. Second, we finally got the chance to book the Japanese restaurant, Hibachi. We came on time and chose the front seat. Then these 4 couples who came in late and Juana, the staff, wants us move to accommodate the late comers! She just ruined my husband’s bday celebration!! So, we moved to the corner of the table. At the end of dinner, one the guest who felt bad for us, told Juana that it is my husband’s bday, Juana came back with a cheesecake and a candle and startled singing Happy Birthday to ME!!! Just a bad experience at the Japanese restaurant.

My husband and I just returned from a week at Valentin Imperial Maya, and we honestly had the best time. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, everything was exceptional.

The staff truly make this resort stand out — always smiling, always friendly, and genuinely happy to joke and engage with guests. You feel welcomed everywhere you go. The entertainment was, without question, the best we’ve experienced at any resort: fun, high-energy, and incredibly well done.

Our room was beautiful, spacious, and spotlessly clean — honestly one of the cleanest resorts we’ve stayed at. The grounds were immaculate and perfectly maintained, which added so much to the overall experience.

The food was excellent with no shortage of options. We never got bored of dining and even found ourselves hopping to two or three restaurants in one night just for appetizers — because why not? There was always something new and delicious to try.

The beach was absolutely stunning, and we were lucky to have no seaweed for the entire duration of our stay, which made it even more enjoyable.

We truly can’t say enough good things about Valentin Imperial Maya. It exceeded our expectations in every way, and we will absolutely be back.

It was perfect from arrival to departure. I highly recommend this resort. Friendly, attentive, beautiful room and resort. Good was amazing. All restaurants surpaced our expectations. Staff was more than accommodating. Nightly shows were a treat. Room was huge, clean, modern, and quiet. The resort beach was clean and more than adequate in size. I like the fact of all the outdoors around and lots of palm trees and lots of birds and some other wildlife and reptile and snakes
The only thing I would improve on is the gym
Was too small, not enough machines like treadmills and yoga in the weight room made it very difficult to lift weight

The majority of the staff was very courteous. The lady at the check in desk spoke VERY quickly so it was a bit difficult for us to understand her. So after we got settled into the room we went to ask the concierge some questions and it seemed to annoy him. The good was delicious, including room service. We wake very early but there’s no coffee available until 7, but all you have to do is call room service the night before and put in your order for whatever time you wish!! The showed each night were good but not great but we still had fun. We got to see coati, several different kinds of birds, capybara and of course a plethora of iguanas. We would definitely stay here again

Horrible ! We rented 3 rooms for 3 nights at a little under 8000 dollars . We get here and waited an hour for a tour of our rooms and to get our room keys , no one ever came so we just asked for the keys and got our own room without a tour. Next day our room keys didn’t work after we returned from an excursion. We were tired and wet and it took another hour and 15 min to get another key. The line was so long on people having issues. Person who finally made us a key could care less about how horribly things were going for us . I would never recommend this place to anyone !

Everything about our stay was 5 stars. This is a resort that clearly has dedicated time to their processes and unseen service that goes above and beyond.

The property itself is grand, well kept, and perfectly atmospheric. The coatis scampering around and a lovely jungle setting truly feel like you're in another world. Each location, whether at the pool, on a path, or at the beach, has it's own carefully-curated vibe that delivers.

The pool is lovely. They've done a great job of separating the sound and DJ to one side of the pool - we could choose a quieter day or a rowdier day without needing to completely change pools!

There are so many different places to eat and drink. The restaurants are all STELLAR! We often had a wait, but we could put our names in and then get a drink at Don Miguel's - they'd radio the bar to let them know our table was ready. All of the food was excellent - when a guest at our hibachi table had a special dietary restriction, their attention to food safety was top notch.

Carlos, Israel, Oscar, Nora, Pablo, Sadie, EVERYONE on the entertainment staff was so incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. They learn your name quickly and always get you involved.

If I could make one recommendation, it would be to add more mats around the pool bars and restrooms, perhaps even the pool steps. Every single day we saw people slip and fall - often multiple times. The floors are extremely slick.

We will absolutely return to Valentin.

The Valentin was amazing and we can’t recommend it highly enough. The property was beautiful and very well kept. The room, common areas, restaurants and spa were all very clean and well kept by a phenomenal staff who was very friendly, very helpful and all seemed 100% committed to making sure our stay was perfect. The restaurants were all delicious and provided a great variety throughout our trip. We also took advantage of the spa and enjoyed wonderful massages. All told I can’t say enough great things about the Valentin.

We only had one issue while staying at the hotel. Our stuff was picked up by security after putting it on chairs at the pool and walking to the beach for a few minutes. We did notice that other chairs that had items on them when we set our items down and walked to the beach were still sitting on the empty chairs and had not been picked up by security. We had to go to the lobby to retrieve our bag. It took about 20-25 mins to get our items back and staff could not explain why only some guests items were taken while others sat there unattended. One staff member stated it was a new policy, but could not explain exactly what the policy entailed. Other than this our stay was great. Staff work hard to help guest enjoy their stay and we appreciated all their hospitality.
