The view from our room and the staff were great but the breakfast was very basic and the location of the hotel was not so convenient.

We did enjoy our stay and love the area but will likely stay closer to the village next time.

I would recommend this property to anyone wanting some peace and quiet with amazing views. The walk up the hill with luggage was a little exhausting but I would do it again! You can arrange a shuttle pick up on checkin and checkout. We would stay here again! We had to walk home from town bc the buses stopped early but it was only about a mile.

Beware the corporate nature of this property. Don't expect a customer centric experience. For example, when you arrive, you will be required to pay in full for your stay. During this process you will be offered the option to pay in CHF or US$. If you are tired and not paying attention after a long trip, you may select US$ which comes with a terrible exchange rate compared to choosing the CHF option. In other words, choosing a foreign currency materially increases the cost of your stay.

I spoke with the manager of the property regarding the practice. He said he makes sure people make their own choice and instructs his employees to never make the choice for the guest.

Unfortunately for trusting foreign guests, employees will also not tell you that If you choose to pay in a foreign currency, you will receive a terrible exchange rate. They are completely silent on this fact.

This lack of transparency illustrates the property's corporate rather than customer focus. Fortunately, there are other properties that don't practice this lack of transparency and treat guests like valued friends.

I'm not suggesting that you avoid this property. It is a clean property, with a good breakfast, and a magnificent view. I am sharing with you that this property takes a win/lose approach to foreign customers rather than a win/win approach.

Great Stay in Gorgeous Grindelwald

The hotel was very cosy, quite cool inside even in the middle of August.
From our room 15, we had a great view over the mountains.
The front desk isn’t always manned, so you can only check in from 16:00 and have to leave by 11:30.
There’s also no bar or restaurant at the hotel, despite the website description. Although there are a lot of choices in Grindelwald itself.
Parking ya the hotel is plentiful and easy. Although walking to and from the hotel maybe difficult for those less able.

Amazing views. The facility is decent and their included breakfast is nice, but we had some large stains on our carpet. Transportation is limited to buses and taxi and the buses stop running at 7 PM. The short walk that Google maps is using is super steep and with heavy luggage is very difficult. Best option from the train station is a 25CHF taxi trip or a bus ride with a shorter walk with less of an incline from the bus stop.

Feels like an authentic Swiss Alps experience!

This is our second visit - we can’t imagine a more enthralling view. The rooms are rustic and comfortable with plenty of storage. The balcony view is incredible and the large patio is perfect for experiencing the restoring views and sounds of birds and the rushing river. The included breakfast buffet is perfect as well.
Our only wish is that this would be a smoke-free property. Several people were smoking on their balconies which ruined the smell of fresh alpine air.

If you want Your view from a hotel room to include mountains and a glacier, this is the place for you. Best view from a hotel room ever. Room is comfortable but no frills. They do have a pool table and darts. The breakfast is good. Extremely close to awesome hiking.

The hotel was away from the town center, but there is a bus stop just down the hill (5 mins walk). So even though we did not drive, transportation wasn't an issue. Beautiful location - the view from our balcony was priceless! The breakfast was very good, and the lady managing the breakfast area deserves a special mention. A very memorable stay!

This hotel was a hidden gem for me. Although it’s a little farther from the main village, the majestic view of the Eiger Mountain from our balcony was well worth it. It’s truly breathtaking! It was the traditional Swiss chalet but I am impressed with the way the hotel is maintained. Although the room is outdated in furnitures, it is clean, spacious and I love the Swiss chalet charm it brings out. The breakfast has good options. The staff are polite and courteous. We arrived very late in the hotel due to train delays which I notified them ahead of time but didn’t expect it to be very late, they were kind to leave the key and instructions. It was the best decision to stay longer in Grindelwald and I highly recommend staying in this hotel.

solo trip!

I booked 8 months out a single room for a solo trip! Cute room, but was a little bummed about a twin bed and room with a partial view from under the roof; but all was good. The main view from the hotel lobby/restraunt made up for it! No shuttle to the hotel so had to get a cab because I didn’t get a bus card until I checked in. Otherwise the staff was very nice and helpful! Hotel food was great! Would recommend!

Staff is super amazing and helpful! breakfast is abundant but same for everyday! We had a eiger view room and it was amazing! So this hotel is not as presentable as others in the area… there’s not a single flower on the property as it shows in the picture! Lighting in the room is only 2 small table lamps and 1 standing… very dark rooms especially after sunsets. Housekeeping only means changing of towels and make bed..no bathroom cleaning or dusting or vacuuming the room. Laundry is available for 5 francs which is nice. We had a car so free parking was super convenient! You have to leave your room keys in the reception area before leaving in the morning.

Simply incredible. From the moment we arrived the staff were so kind and welcoming. The hotel is so charming and the view is spectacular. As others have said, it's quite a steep hill to walk up to but the view is so worth it!! It's also just a bit away from crowded centre of town, which is great as it's very touristy in town centre. We also had breakfast included which was great value and lots of variety. Would highly recommend!

Grindelwald is beautiful and this hotel had a patio area that was perfect for viewing the landscape. The free breakfast was the highlight of the hotel. Lots of food and beverage options. One negative is it's definitely a steep uphill hike from the nearest bus stops. I got my workout at the end of each day walking back to the hotel. They also don't have a restaurant but the hotel right next door has two restaurants so that wasn't a problem if you didn't want to go far for a bite to eat.

Loved this place! It’s charming and quaint, local bus transport close by & and THE VIEW! It’s everything we wanted! They do shuttle from train station which is extremely helpful with luggage! Would definitely want to stay here again in Grindelwald ❤️

We spent one night here and really enjoyed our stay. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a balcony and sat outside in the evening and had a great view of the mountains. They even gave us free bus passes. The breakfast was huge and delicious. Wished we stayed longer. Definitely book again but make sure you book in advance.

Perfect stay!

This place is a dream! It was away from the hustle and bustle of the main downtown area, but a beautiful and manageable walk to get there! Our triple room was perfect with plenty of space, great decor, a balcony, and a beautiful view. The breakfast was delicious and the staff was so helpful and kind. We played billiards and sipped wine on the hotel patio looking out at the Alps. Our favorite stay in our whole trip throughout Switzerland!

This is an authentic Swiss property with glorious views and friendly service. We went in the shoulder season, so it was peaceful. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed, but the included breakfast was plentiful, and they spread everyone out with assigned tables separated from other guests.

Convenient transportation on the bus, and lots of options to get around.

Great but be warned

Great place with amazing views but you should know there is a STEEP hill to walk up to get here. You CANNOT walk here from town. If you are disabled or elderly this is not the place for you. You are carrying your luggage up and down a hill. The last bus to and from town is at 6:45pm so your day is done then. Restaurant was closed also. We had to get food and get home before the 6:45 p and that sucked badly.

Beautiful but disappointing

The surrounding beauty is what drew us to this hotel. Our view was breathtaking when the rain and clouds finally went away. The rooms are in desperate need of updating. The bed was not comfortable. The black out drapes were great. It was quiet and the staff helpful. The breakfast was typical for Switzerland. We probably wouldn’t return unless it is updated.

Perfect hotel for a stay in Grindelwald.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay! Perfect location located just a few minutes outside Grindelwald, so we were close enough to get to town by foot or car, but just far away enough to have complete peace and quiet. We slept with windows open, and enjoyed the peaceful sounds of a small mountainside village.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean, and the breakfast buffet was delicious, with plenty of choices to enjoy.

Place to stay in Grindewald. It is super easy to downtown area. The rooms have an extraordinary view (pretty much from anywhere). I highly recommend this place. They have laundry to do your clothes…the dryer is extremely slow in drying.

The hotel was lovely and comfortable. There was a pool table and free coffee and tea all day long. We loved our room and the view was amazing. Super cozy and we love the little details of the hotel. The only issue we had was that walk uphill. It does get a little tiring after walking around the whole day. Another issue is the dryer does not dry any clothes at all. We had to air dry our clothes and it can be a bit inconvenient when its cold and you have to pack up and leave the next day. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was very helpful. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be booking again. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

We had an Eiger view room and couldn’t be more pleased. The view of the mountains was one of a kind. The hotel was great. Very clean, well situated away from the busy main street of Grindelwald but not too far. You can easily walk downhill in to town, or take a bus if desired. I would stay at this hotel again without reservation (but best make a reservation).

The town itself had a lot of tourists walking, driving vehicles, etc. and it was pretty loud for a small village. The hotel was situated about a 15 minute walk from the town center and was very quiet. Each night we would sit on our balcony, listen to the birds and enjoy the mountain view.

It’s a good property. Far from the town. It’s hard to walk up hill each day. The staff are the best people. Great breakfast and great views from the hotel and rooms. The entire town has lots of flies and you can’t escape them anywhere you going to live in the area. If you willing to walk extra and bear heat as there are no fans in many hotels and you ok with living with lots of flies at food and in house etc. This might be the hotel for you and Grindelwald town and all hotels have the same issues. Thank I am from America and I live a higher standard of living compared to any place in this world.

Hotel felt very dated. Certainly the best thing it had going for it was the balcony views. It met our overall needs for sleeping though. Luggage storage was just an unlocked room with a cracked open door, which definitely didn’t feel comforting to leave our bags in, fortunately it worked out okay. But the key situation was very weird, you have to leave your room key in the lobby area on the wall next to the front desk while away from the hotel. The hotel maintenance crew entered our room at one point unbeknownst to us while we were out and took our mini fridge without any notification or note, which was especially unnerving since we had the do not disturb sign on the door. The front desk person didn’t even know what happened and informed us later that apparently our fridge had short circuited the floor so they removed it. Bathroom is pretty dark, especially while in the shower. Breakfast was good though. Location is definitely a 10-15 minute walk to main town area, and the buses apparently quit running early, and this was in June, so be prepared to walk home uphill from dinner. Closest bus station (not in the winter) is still a 5 minute walk up a fairly steep hill, so with luggage isn’t very enjoyable. Also most shops close early and even some restaurants closed in Grindelwald so not much to do in the evenings, but was okay with us since we needed a rest from our hiking adventures.
