The Naini Retreat was fantastic! The property sits high on the mountain, offering beautiful views. The staff were exceptional: friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were very willing to address my dietary restrictions and provide some incredible food. I also used the spa, and it was a perfect way to relax after a long day of sightseeing.

The rooms are comfortable and quiet. The hotel provides courtesy shuttles down to the market, which is greatly appreciated. They also have a daily high tea which I highly recommend.

Overall a great experience. Highly recommend this hotel if you are planning to visit Nainital.

I was disappointed with the room.It definitely needed a refurbishing since it looked old and tired.
The bathroom was particularly disappointing with a great deal of work to bring it to the star rating.
The spa too could do with a facelift.
The one place that I felt was 5 star was in the dinning room with the chef and the catering manager taking the accolade,overall a lovely place to stay at.

The staff is not proficiently trained to work in a hotel. They lack simple professionalism and knowledge of English . They were however very polite and nice. The WiFi does not work. The water in the shower was cold. The free shuttle is there but the men outside were just acting unprofessionally .

The building is beautiful, great views of the lake but it’s difficult to get here. You’ll need a driver that’s experienced in hilly terrain driving.

The breakfast is great. The chef was amazing. He came and talked to us.

Best location in nainital. This hotel is a palace which has been renovated as a hotel. You get a very nice view of naini lake and the surroundings. And their breakfast buffet is also amazing.

I am a 72-year-old American male who visited India solo. I spent five nights at the Naini Retreat. This is a first class hotel-the room with a balcony view was outstanding and the breakfast meal, which was included in my room cost, was wonderful. The lake is a 10 minute walk away down a steep hill; the hotel offers courtesy car services if requested. The staff went the extra mile to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. Highly recommend this hotel - Really glad I stayed there

Damp,dark and depressing

The hotel does not mention that it is difficult to access. It has no lifts. There are too many internal and external stairs in the building which made it difficult to get around. My mother fell one time and hurt her knee. I had to help her when we wanted to go for meals or outside. In total there were 4 different staircases to access our room. The room was in the annexe building and was damp. The bedding was damp and even the clothing in the suitcase became damp. We were so disappointed as we had expected some sort of view but the window in the room had frosted glass. The room was also very dark and even with all the lights on it was pretty dark. There was no hot water and the ac did not work. The hotel did not provide any information at check in such as that they had a complimentary taxi or afternoon tea. We asked a staff member about going to the town who pointed to some steep steps to reach the town. Also at check out they could have mentioned that due to rain our flight may be cancelled. We could instead have taken a taxi from the hotel back to Delhi.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

I would never ever consider staying in this property again and recommend the same to others travelling to Nainital . This heritage property does afford very scenic view but is poorly maintained. I stayed at Naini Retreat from 26th to 28th Jun for two nights, booking a family suite for 04 guests. I was charged Rs. 50,121 i.e Approx. USD 725 and paid Rs.32,532 upfront on hotels.com(balance of Rs. 17589.00 adjusted from my accumulated one free night). Most horrific part being that I was not even provided the accommodation as shown in the hotels.com site.Is it a case of cheating ? Money spent having gone down the drain.Much as I would like to forget this experience, I am still writing this for benefit of others.

Overall a good property located at a height having a good view, greenary & flowers around.
Word of advise: Park your car in the Nainital Parking Area & ask for a pick-up from the hotel as it’s at quite good height & it’s risky to drive.
For youngsters, this could be one of the best properties to stay but for elders, you need to think as there is good amount of walk applicable on stairs & overall.

Overall stay was very nice & enjoyable.
At evening, there is arrangement of LIVE music & borne fire with-in the resort so lively atmosphere is created for vacation.

Location is nice.
Food is good.
Overall ambience is quite nice.

Quiet Place.

This is a nice hotel. Rooms are a bit small. There was a window side bench but no chairs in the room.. That apart, the hotel is well maintained, quiet, has a small patio /garden and a good view down the valley. I found the hotel staff to be very good and helpful and I recommend the place strongly.

I have been to Nainital many times but this was the most memorable stay..

We were two couples and we booked this hotel based on the fab tripadvisor reviews... We found the resort to live up to its reputation.. They lost no opportunity to help or accommodate us... The checkin starts at 11 but they were generous to allow us to checkin at 7-8 am itself since our train had arrived early..

we booked both bfast and dinner at the hotel itself and it was a very good decision.. The hotel is located a bit above Naini lake and they have a shuttle sort of service to ferry to the hotel.. the last ferry leaves at ~8 in the evening.. so it helped that we had booked dinner at the hotel as well...

The spread is very nice both for bfast and dinner... and the restaurant staff is very courteous and the service is very good..

Overall a very nice stay... Nainital looks fabulous from the garden view rooms...

A few tips for improvement:
1) billiards is on a pay basis.. which shouldn't be so and hotel facilities shouldn't be charged extra
2) Some of the guys on the reception could be more courteous.. (we had a relatively sour experience with a few)

hotel is too costly as per the amenities provided, and locality wise as well. However, staff is very decent. They would greet you warmly when you reach there. As hotel is a bit far from main city's Mall road, they provide complimentary cab for pick up and drop from Mall Road. Food quality is ok. But again, too costly for the price. 600+ rupees breakfast and only very few options available to eat and that too of average taste. Food could have been better.

Booked for three persons and third person was not staying on complimentary basis but duly paid . No bed was provided , matress was put on floor, unbelieveable. How can you mislead your customer , when you charging a good amount, come on grow up. Very stingy, most of the things on demand which normally provided in hotels. Do governance and not by cutting petty corners.

Royal stay at Nainital

Stayed recently for two nights. Had a wonderful experience. Touch of heritage in the hotel. Staff is courteous and friendly, however the manager at the reception could have been more friendly than being indifferent. Food is quite costly on site so need to plan your day accordingly and have food on town before getting to the resort, which is quite a drive from the mall to road. We had breakfast included and the spread is decent. Overall, a good stay and recommend.

This is a great hotel to stay in Nainital. This was our first visit and we believe that we got the hotel with the best location in Nainital. It is a short walking distance from the mall road and the lake and since it is located on the hill, you get an amazing views of hills and the lake. But make sure that you book the rooms facing the hills with the open balcony

Good Hotel... Very coperative staff..... But the best part of Naini Retreat is its excellent food.... Food was out of the world.... Very good spread.... The two blemishes of the hotel are.... very small & cramped up rooms.....and there is no lift or elevator in the entire hotel. ... So people who have problem with climbing the steep Stairs should avoid this hotel...

Approach to Hotel

To reach hotel through small hilly narrow lanes was a terrible experience.
In addition to above the Hotel suits the youngsters as one has to climb 96 stairs (from garden view rooms) to reach the parking place and to reach the reception is almost 75 stairs. Like wise when you have to come back & reach your room. We were 4 persons ( all Senior citizens) occupying 2 rooms w.e.f 24.10.13 to 26.10.12 & suffering from knee arthritis still after come back from Nanital are suffering badly and taking pain killers. I thing while We were planning the booking the fact of approach to the Hotel as well as the fact of climbing up & down to reach the rooms has not been mentioned. I advise the old goodies to look into this aspect before the land in this hotel. The Hotel no doubt is one of the best in Nanital and the staff is also very polite & humble. The restaurant is also very good .
