The Dwarika is an oasis. The spa and gym facilities are out of this world. It is a living cultural museum with wood carvings and art and traditional but fancy local cuisine.

It was exactly what I needed after the Everest Marathon, a place to detox and recover. Even the air is better and sweeter in the hotel. It isn’t near Thamel but that is why it is peaceful. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else. It isn’t the luxury, it is the support of Nepali and Newari traditions that put it over the top.

PS The basil lemonade is addictive
PPS The lady who manages the treatment center is a fourth generation healer and she has an incredible nasya recipe for your sinuses and lungs

This place is an oasis at the center of buzzing Kathmandu. Close proximity to the airport is a bonus. You can of course stay at the western chains but if you wish to immerse yourself in Nepalese culture while having the perks of a 4/5 star hotel, this is the place to be. Don’t forget to dine at the excellent Nepalese restaurant.

Don’t stay here if you want a good nights rest . There was a dog barking all night and drilling and hammering during the day. What a nusaince and mistake to stay here and over priced. I spent over $1200 for three nights and got a better sleep at a $50

We celebrated New Year’s Eve here.
Stay at his hotel made our time more comfortable in Kathmandu.

Staff was very nice and accommodating. Food was also good.

They accommodated our request to transfer some parts of our stay to their resort in Dhulikhel which was also very nice.

Dhulikhel resort although could not accommodate our request for late check out on last day as our flight was late in the evening and that is the only daily flight.

That was the only bummer.

We were unwell during our stay and could have done with extra rest on the last day before taking the long flight back home.

This hotel is everything! I would live here if I could.

First, the hotel itself is stunning. The founder set it up as a restoration project to save traditional Nepali wood carvings. Theyve used those items to build a gorgeous set of buildings around a courtyard. It's so peaceful compared to the area of Kathmandu right outside the doors, it's like stepping into another world.

Second, the service is incredible. They upgraded us, gave a short tour of the hotel, and one staff member, Sumit, even taught us how to play the Nepali national board game. I mentioned that I wanted to buy coffee to take home and they sourced a bag for me so I wouldn't have to leave the hotel. The day I checked out I had several hours to kill - they arranged a room for me to freshen up in before I left for the airport.

The experience was worth every penny, and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Kathmandu.

Exceptional service. Staff are helpful and even brought a complimentary cake to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The Taran restaurant is excellent for breakfast, so many options and selections for foods! However, the dinner items were underwhelming. Also, the door to the kitchen is noisy and distracting when dining. Overall, it was a wonderful stay in well maintained living museum to conveniently get around.

Dawarika’s Hotel in Kathmandu is my favorite hotel in the world. It’s not just a hotel, it is a special Nepalese experience and is an oasis amidst the chaos of Kathmandu. Built in the Architectural style of the Newari people, the hotel is a historical and cultural destination in itself. To you that off, the staff go
above and beyond to make your stay spectacular and to make you feel at home. The rooms, courtyard, smells and sounds all combine to make this a very special place. The food is great too, especially the 6 course Newari meal at their Krishnapan restaurant.

We loved this hotel -- its beauty is legendary, a precious piece of the old Nepal that (in Kathmandu) sadly seems to have disappeared. But it is the staff -- especially those who welcome guests at the door -- that makes this place even more special. Their thoughtfulness, kindness, and resourcefulness are quite extraordinary. We stayed only one night en route to Bhutan. On the way back from Bhutan we had a lengthy layover. And so we returned for lunch and relaxation in the courtyard. We had used all of our cash in Bhutan and the ATM at the airport wasn't working. So we hopped in a cab without a Nepalese penny -- the Dwarika's concierge paid the cab at the door and let us add that to our lunch bill which we could charge on our credit card. Whew! Love those guys.

A super special place!

Dwarika's Hotel is a must visit! If you can stay there even better but you must go if you are in KTM. Brunch in the continental restaurant was fantastic and the specialty Nepali Restaurant was so interesting and worth a visit. This hotel and it's mission of preservation is worth the trip. The service was wonderful and the room upgrade to a Junior Suite made our last day in Nepal super special. We had a room in the main building facing the inner courtyard and it couldn't have been better, I wish we had known about this hotel on our first visit to Nepal. We will be back!

Best hotel in Kathmandu! Perfect luxury landing from a trek to Everest Base Camp. I felt cared for and the staff anticipated but never intruded! Beautiful big rooms -I had the most basic which wasn’t basic in any way. An oasis in a very dusty city. Food is excellent, especially the Nepali restaurant. I had the smallest meal (6 courses but can go up to 20) and it was graceful, elegant and simply the best food I had my month in Nepal. Was well treated as a single woman (it was my 60th birthday present)

Beautiful boutique hotel with fascinating attention to construction, wood detailing throughout the complex. The service is outstanding and the restaurants on the premises are all excellent. The only downside to this hotel is its location in the city. There is no where to walk to outside of the complex, so it is a bit restricting if you plan to stay for more than one night.

An art-filled haven

The hotel is stunning. Every area, inside and out, feels like a museum and it's a beautiful homage to the former glory of the town. It has clearly been lovingly and carefully restored and filled with the finest antiques and objets d'art - everywhere one looks, there are gorgeous pieces to behold. Our room was also faultlessly decorated, very spacious and comfortable, with every amenity one could wish for. All in all, it's a magnificent haven from the moment one enters from the bustling, dusty roads outside.

I loved this hotel. We actually modified our trip to stay one more night here last minute. The hotel is beautiful, with a very classic nepal decoration, you feel somewhere else magical. Excellent food, the nepali restaurant was great, personalized menu, gift at the end, beautiful. Great breakfast. Excellent cheese platter at the bar. Varied wine selection, which is not common in Nepal. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Good location. The basic room is very big and spacious. I cant wait to come back! It is soo worth it, pick this hotel.

Oasis in the middle of Kathmandu

About half way from the airport to the hotel my wife and I looked at each other wondering what we had gotten ourselves into. Being typical Americans we weren't used to the chaos that surrounded our taxi; the masses of people, noise, dust and, by our way of thinking, crazy driving. We entered the small circular drive at the hotel and then went through the large wood doors and, almost miraculously, it all disappeared and we were in a totally different world. I'm not sure how, but there was no noise or dust, just a beautifully landscaped tranquil oasis in the middle of Kathmandu. We could not have been more pleased with the hotel. Everything; our room, the food, the grounds and especially the service was outstanding. I can't imagine there being a better place to stay in Kathmandu. Truly a great hotel.

I'm a hotel snob, and this place was one of the best I've ever stayed , Service and staff beyond expectations. I will definitely stay here again when in Kathmandu. I actually visited done if the higher rates properties there (Hyat) and the Dwarikas was far superior. We suspected that lodging in Kathmandu would be spotty due to the April earthquakes. Dwarika was a remarkable hotel far beyond our highest expectations. The local architectural style and the extensive restoration of antique furnishings made the living experience even more meaningful. The attentiveness of the staff and the wide selection of local and western foods made dining a treat. We would definitely recommend The Dwarika as a value despite its higher price among its lesser competitors.

Even post-quake, a stunning oasis in Kathmandu

It's totally safe and sustained no damage!! The Dwarika's Hotel is uniquely stunning and an experience that should not be missed--it is honestly worth every penny (and anywhere else, this hotel would easily be triple the price). I arrived exactly one week after the earthquake and as I entered the hotel, you would never know that there was any problems, let alone that an earthquake had taken place. Fortunately, this amazing example of Newari architecture withstood the quake and is undamaged. After only one day, almost all of the staff know me by name and have gone out of their way to make my stay wonderful. I sincerely cannot say enough about this magical hotel, it's elegant owner and it's kind and attentive staff. Aside from being a literal oasis in the middle of crazy Kathmandu, the hotel is environmentally sustainable, zero-waste and chemical free. Spend the extra money and stay here--you will always be grateful that you did.

Heritage is worth the stay

The hotel is beautiful and it is an exceptional experience to stay in royal Nepali architecture. The service aims to be top notch. However, I hope in the near future they put a whole other dose of love into the place. The rooms could be updated, mattresses changed, and they could use more staff to make the experience more personal. Otherwise still great.

This is the 5th time I have stayed at Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu Nepal. It is an oasis refuge in an otherwise dirty, noisy, polluted city. The service as always is impeccable, and the breakfast outstanding. The rooms are sumptuous, comfortable and quiet. The architecture is of course the greatest draw, and sets Dwarkika's apart from any hotel I have ever stayed at.

Like most high end hotels however, they tend to skimp on thde extras - the most important currently being internet access. Although available poolside and at the bar, there is no access in the rooms without a hefty daily fee. There is access is adequate, but slow.

An oasis of tranquility in a hectic city

Kathmandu as many travelers know is not the cleanest or quietest city. The dwarika though is an oasis in the midst of the grime.

Top notch service, comfortable beds and an aesthetic all it's own. It was just what I needed after 3 weeks of trekking. I would really suggest the upgrade to one of their suites.

An absolute haven

This hotel lives up to its promise of a haven of peace and tranquility, away from the chaos and hubbub of the streets of Kathmandu. Its huge courtyard area is a true oasis. The decor throughout is meticulous and stunning - amongst the most interesting and beautiful of any hotel I have seen. There were a few points that detracted from our comfort, such as a bedside table on only one side of the bed, a hairdryer that barely worked, treadmills badly in need of a service in the gym, and my all-time bugbear with some expensive hotels - a surcharge for wifi! However, the decor and lovely garden area made up for this all and I would definitely stay there again. The food, too, was varied and good, and the location conveniently close to the airport and the major sights.

A Unique Experience

The Dwarika is the rare combination of a luxury hotel and a cultural experience. If you can afford it, stay there! You won't regret it; you will have a great time AND you will leave the hotel with a greater understanding of the artistic heritage of Nepal. (PS: My spouse and I went alone but we also saw several family groups - everyone had a great time).

Excellent Service

Dwarika's is relatively very expensive, but the excellent service and beautiful architectural surroundings make it all worthwhile. The rooms have every comfort, including goodnight chocolates! The Spa is also excellent for some real relaxation. There are also 3 different restaurants, Japanese, Nepalise and Continental, to choose between. A very large range of food is available for the breakfast, which can be eaten inside or outside in the courtyard.

Pleasant Hotel amid the bustle of the city

The best part of the Dwarika's hotel is the fabulous courtyard. The collection of artefacts used in the facade of the building is done very well and adds a sense of history to the place. While the rooms are quite large, the design and details are not as impressive as the exterior spaces of the hotel. The food at the various restaurants was good but not exceptional. The pool was nice but very cold.

It was a bit annoying having to pay extra for my 9 year old son to stay in the same room with us. If they had made an effort to actually provide a real bed for him, it would have been different but he basically had to sleep on the couch which was not very comfortable.

In all it was a nice hotel but probably not worth the price we paid. If you are staying one night it is an interesting place to stay with great architectural character but after the novelty wears off, other large international hotels in the vicinity give you the same level of service, food, facilities at half the price.

Wonderful place

The hotel is magic. Everything was great. Couple of comments: 10 $ per device per day for internet was way too much. Also, some lotion is the room would be nice. Otherwise, we were happy with everything.

Incredibly special hotel

We stayed here either side of our mountain trek around pokhara. It was both a welcome start to the trip as well as an amazing luxurious end to the rest of our holiday that was spent in very simple tea houses and lodges. Ironically we ended up spending the whole day in the hotel after getting food poisoning elsewhere in Nepal. I couldn't recommend a better place to spend a very sick day.

Hotel with a character

Nice hotel when you have a day or two after or before your trekking. It has a lot of charm, rooms are very big, beds are comfortable. Very nice architecture. The prices for food are high, quality is ok, but nothing special. Breakfast is very pleasant and worth the money, very nice to sit outside.
Kathmandu is a busy and dirty city, and the hotel is located right on the busy street, I personally lacked the air or some territory/park to walk around, the one that Hyatt has. If I had a choice again, I would probably opt for Hyatt club level room, it doesn't have the charm but has more amenities and the beautiful park.

Amazing Hotel

We only stayed here one night, but it has to be one of the top hotels we have ever stayed in. The hotel is simply stunning. The service is amazing. Our room was upgraded and loved it.

Only downside is that you are far from Thamel, but only about a $5.00 cab ride away.

If you are in kathmandu, definitely try this!
