I never leave reviews but I feel it is important for travelers to know what a wonderful hotel this is. Let me start by saying that the entire staff are among some of the kindest and genuine people I have come across in a long time. They themselves get 5 stars. The rooms are fantastic and the beds are super comfy. The hotel is also amazingly quiet. I couldn’t believe I was in Kathmandu! Its is beautifully decorated with thoughtful flowers and landscaping. It’s a true gem in beautiful Bodha and is now my new home away from home. I really love this place and can’t wait to return.

Shambaling is a little oasis in Katmandu. It's intimate setting fosters a gentle stillness and staff could not be more accommodating. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the newly opened spa offers wonderful treatments for weary, sore trekking muscles. I will tell all my travelling friends about this \"must stay at \"- gem.

Both the hotel and the room were beautiful - tucked away so it was quiet but easy access to the Stupa area.
The staff were very nice, the breakfast menu was okay but since there were limited vegetable options they prepared something specially for us which was excellent. We stayed in a different hotel in the Tamil area on our first night and the price wasn't all that different - there was no comparison in terms of the quality and vibe of the hotel - this was on such a higher level

Great hotel

Far from Thamel, but if you want to escape the tourist and noise then it is ideal. Spacious clean rooms make for a comfortable stay. You will sleep very well in the bed. Staff are great!

Charming Garden Hideaway

What can we say, everything was great. Our stay was fabulous with the important things to us being; the service was attentive to us as guests, the restaurant food was of great quality for Nepal and the staff made us feel very warm and welcoming - nothing was a problem, the deluxe rooms were spacious with garden views which was a nice retreat for us after being on a 3 week trek of the Himalayas. For us we enjoyed having our own space at the Cabvebar to have a drink and read a book each evening. The hotel price point was spot on. Overall the hotel was clean and we could not fault the service, even after we checked out and had to wait until 8pm for our flight, we were treated as guests all the way until we departed for the airport. Our appreciation was shown by the tip we gave on departure and we sincerely hope this is shared amongst all the team at the hotel. You can be sure we will recomend this hotel to fellow travellors! Thank you for being a part of our traveling memories!!

Zen Hotel In Kathmandu

Amazing hotel! Location isn’t the best if you are looking for more of a tourist area, as it’s fairly far from the tourist area but closer to the airport. Could hear the drums from Boudhanath in the morning and evening. Amazing service and owner is on site. WiFi signal was not very strong on the 4th floor unfortunately. Great restaurant on site and massages available in room which was a great service! They even let me stay in the room for a very late check out before my flight back home.

Best boutique hotel in Kathmandu

Excellent food and service at Lungta Restaurant. Very knowledgeable and friendly service overall throughout the hotel. Standard rooms’ decor is simple but clean, and they have fancier rooms for a bit more. Convenient location just walking distance from the Big White Stupa. Will definitely stay with them when I visit Kathmandu again

This hotel is like an oasis in a very hectic and dusty Kathmandu. I thoroughly recommend it to fellow travellers. The staff without exception are efficient, well-trained and delightful. You can walk to the Boudha and experience all the lively local shops just a few minutes away. Just be sure to have the address and telephone number of the hotel to hand for the taxi driver! Don’t miss the Shambaling

Taxi drivers have problems finding the hotel so perhaps the staff could tell hotel guest what to say to cab drivers to make it easier for them.

Placed a little way out from Thamel.

First timers to Kathmandu would probably do better in Thamel. This hotel is a bit further away from most tourist interests, but the food, service and room were excellent. Traffic delays would be a killer for most people.

The staff were really nice and cordial..the only problem was that you had to keep the water running for at least 10minutes if you wanted warm water for a shower. Also I had to pay $10 extra for a room with an AC and the AC did not work on one day :(

FABULOUS, a must stay!!!

The rooms were wonderful, spacious, cleanly, and overall hotel was zen. Staff was fabulous! I was only here for one night and couldn't rate the hotel properly on the area it is in.. I only put the in the middle face because at 1AM there were dogs barking uncontrollably and I couldn't sleep. That's not the hotel's fault!

An ok place to stay

I stayed at the Shambaling for one night and it was a comfortable night's stay. Staff are friendly but slightly robotic, probably to do with the training. Given I was only there for one night, I informed them there was no need to show me every facility provided in the room but the designated member of staff insisted that's part of the introductory speech when guests are being shown around their room.

The staff are friendly and the breakfast they serve in the garden is ok. The shower curtains should be cleaned regularly because they tend to get mouldy, especially at the bottom. The room I was given was on the second floor and the shower was really drizzly.

Good location, great staff

Kathmandu is a complex city. The Shmbaling is something of an oasis. The hotel is located I a calm and peaceful setting yet within easy and interesting walking distance to some major attractions. The hotel is indeed \"boutique\"; small, very comfortable, with very professional and friendly staff. I had a larger room overlooking the hotel garden. This was great. Meals in the restaurant were very good, with a good range of Asian and Western choices. I know little about other hotels in Kathmandu, but I have now stayed at this hotel twice within a 2 week period and would definitely recommend it to others.

Truly a garden paradise

This lovely, calm hotel near Bouddhanath is somewhat out of the way. Several taxi drivers, and most store owners on the main road, had never heard of it, so we had a hard time getting there. (Make sure, if you go there, to keep the address handy or to have working GPS.). Once we arrived, though, we felt thoroughly at home. The quiet, well tended, walled garden and the welcoming staff made us forget our dusty travels to get there. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff was very responsive to all our requests, and the food was excellent.

We were able to stroll down to the Stupa through quaint alleys and a Tibetan market; we got lost along the way every time, but each walk was interesting and somewhat exotic. Once we figured out exactly where the hotel was, we had no problem returning by taxi from various parts of the city.

The rates were reasonable for the service and facilities they provide. We had a lovely time there, and will surely return.

Like a sanctuary

This hotel is like a sanctuary in the middle of Katmandu. It definitely has a Nepalese/Tibetan feeling to it. The hotel is surrounded by a wall and there's a nice, peaceful garden in the middle of it. The restaurant is excellent, and the staff are super friendly. I had a couple of special requests, and they were very accommodating. The main drawback is the location. It's not close to any sites, shopping, or other restaurants (at least not that I was aware of). And the roads in the neighborhood are really bad. A cab ride to Thamel is about 20 minutes.

Quiet, tranquil place to relax and unwind!

Highly recommend staying here to all travellers. it's a beautiful, spacious, quiet hotel that is eco-friendly and has great service, aircon and a restaurant that prepares excellent food (Nepali, Tibetan or Western). A full breakfast is included in the rate, every morning. I had the scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, toast and jam and tea and it was filling. (They also have cereal/muesli/granola which I didn't eat as my breakfast was more than adequate). The staff speak excellent English/Tibetan/Nepali and can help you with travel tips, organising tours or airport transfers. They are 10 minutes walk from the Boudha stupa (up Phulbari Rd) there are numerous shops close by and they have a lovely garden to relax or have meals in. This is a small boutique hotel with 5 star service, you will find it hard to beat and value for money!

Over Rated Hotel

The Hotel is located very far away from the city.
The roads leading to the hotel are completely dug up for work ( refer attached picture)
Kathmandu has 10- 12 hours of power cut and the hotel does not have full back up. So no A/C through out the day.
The room did not have a television. When asked I was told it will be setup on request. So I requested and then they placed a TV. The TV was very old and had a very grainy picture which the staff informed me was due to the service provider. Anyway, by second day it was showing only two channels so we didn't bother.
Two of the lamps placed in the room did not work. On second day we complained and the same was fixed
The view from the room is of a 3 storey house. You can have a good view of the residents go about their lives. Had to keep my shades drawn when I was in the room
When asked for a extra bed at night, I was informed that the housekeeping staff had left for the day and they will place the extra bed the next day. Later the front desk staff called and informed that they will get it if I really need it.
The hotel seems to be short staffed in all departments. The front desk staff ( 1 member) does running around and get you tea / coffee sachets, fixes lamps, brings in the TV to your room, checks the TV reception etc etc.
The restaurants also are short staffed with one person serving the guest for Dinner and one for Breakfast.
For the same price I could have got a hotel in Durbar Marg. Very disappointed with the whole experience

A hidden gem

Hotel is a hidden gem. It is around 10 mins. Walk from the boudha stupa. Room is very clean with nice cozy bed. The hotel itsef is a tibetan style hotel, with tibetan decorations and a singing bowl inside the room. Staffs are exceptional, they are all so friendly and professional. A special credit to the resturant staff, he is so attentive and kind, also the night shift front desk staff is very professional as well. Breakfast is so delicious. highly recommended this place if you are looking for some quiet time in the hussle town of kathmandu

Wonderful hotel, short walk from Boudha Stupa

Beautiful hotel, suggest the upgrade to renovated rooms if possible as they are lovely. Beautiful garden, great restaurant, hot water when friends staying elsewhere had chilly showers! Staff were wonderful, took extra care as I was travelling alone. Only thing to consider is that the last little bit of the walk to hotel is along a well used lane way that is not lit at night; a little nervous after dark as I was alone so suggest a small torch.

Cold shower...

$70 US and no hot water. Was told it could take 10-15 minutes for the hot water to come on. As crazy as that sounded, we waited that long to no avail. Restaurant garden is very nice as is the restaurant. Staff is very nice also.

Lovely hotel in Kathmandu

Nice place away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu once you get into the hotel compound. Fairly near the airport. Staff are very helpful.
Also, very close to Boudhha Stupa (OK to walk there during the day, but not practical to walk there for dinner, as streets do not have street lights).

As others have commented, the road leading to the hotel is being repaired. So, very bumpy journey to the hotel. No street lights at night while we there.

The rooms on the top floor are at the balcony level. So, might be warm during the day.

Amazing hotel!

This was such a great pick after trekking through the Himalayas. Great service, quiet location, delicious food at the attached restaurant, wonderful clean and comfortable bed and bathroom. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone at any time during their visit to Kathmandu/Bouda.
