Beautiful hotel, staff, and gardens! Tennis courts and spa. Beautiful pool area. Service is top notch at this 5 Star hotel in the “old town” side of Kathmandu. And I was very pleased with the location! I had in a club level room that came with several amenities, one of which was a free drink and snack during 5-7pm. For me, was an a local beer and momos and most of the time dinner. Room 418. Really enjoyed my stay. Namaste 🙏

Not luxury, but a very comfortable stay

Stayed at this hotel 6 nights with 3 separate check-ins as part of an organized tourist trip. The quiet location seems inconvenient. However, it is possible to walk into the city center within 10 minutes or so, if you are inclined to do this. The area outside of the hotel grounds is safe, but missing sidewalks, electric wires are hanging from poles, but this is the general condition in Nepal. The hotel staff tried hard to give good service and were always very polite. The breakfast buffet is quite extensive, with a waffle and omelet station. Had dinner once each in both of the in-house restaurants. Good service and good food. The beds were comfy and the AC worked well. Overall the place looked and smelled clean, but we did see a mouse in the lobby our last day there.

This was a work trip and we booked five rooms for a few nights. Checkin: Rude front desk, on check-in telling me I had to provide passport and wouldn’t accept drivers license. Straight away into an attitude like he was doing me a big favour and I shouldn’t be allowed to stay… what a welcome! Later in the stay one of my staff was harassed by the front door guard and told the motorbike helmet he had in his hands wasn’t allowed inside the hotel!?!? I also had my helmet in my hands (we had just parked rental bikes) and this guard at the door started on me. We eventually ignored the guard and took our helmets inside but we felt this was started due to my staff member being Bangladeshi. To top it all off I went to front desk to ensure bill was sorted and checked out. Four hours later as I am getting into my taxi a front desk guy races up to the taxi and demands to know what room I am in so he can make sure I have paid! That’s a first! Pool was never open, and a heads up the pictures are all of the conference centre not the hotel which blares music from weddings etc most nights into the singles glazed windows… it’s a 3 star hotel imo… dated, worn, and rude staff. Many many other options.

I love the Yak! What I don't love is that Orbitz tripled the price of my plane tickets to Pokhara, then cancelled the flight due to smoke, and now won't give my money back on the return flight.

The staff made my visit one I’d never forget. Anamika was very welcoming and made my stay her personal mission to be great. Her recommendations advice and attention to my desires were met with the highest respect. I definitely recommend the Yak & Yeti for any travel need. They offer a personalized experience at the travel desk and spa. They offer space for events personal or professional. On site dining consists of bar, buffet and fine dining. Enjoy your stay! Yak and Yeti would be so much better if they -like good hotels around the world - would adopt 'green' policies. Give guests the option to NOT have bedsheets changed every day. And PLEASE have an alternative to using so many plastic water bottles! This has to end for guests to not feel guilty about their excessive use of plastic while staying there. Every thing else was great, appreciated the design and aesthetics in the building.

This lovely hotel deserves its outstanding reputation - not only because it is physically charming and lovely, but because both the food and staff are outstanding. I stayed a week alone at the Yak and Yeti before departing for a trek to EBC. The staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. Every morning I ate at their delicious breakfast buffet. There were selections featuring Indian, Nepali, and American foods, as well as made to order omelettes. As someone else noted, their gardens are like an oasis from the chaos of Kathmandu. I am going to get caught in the lockdown upon my return from EBC, and I intend to spend my lockdown time at the Yak and Yeti - I can't think of a better place to be \"stuck\". I look forward to returning there soon!

Stayed here two times--for a few days before our trek, and a couple of days after our trek. No hot showers on the first stay, but the showers were nice and hot the second stay. There were fewer people in the hotel on the second stay. Got some food poisoning at the end of my stay.

I'm sure this was once an incredible property- but it has become quite dated. The room wasn't very clean- there was dirt in the corners and piles of hair stuck along furniture. The check in process was incredibly slow- despite having a full staff to man the desk. The breakfast (which, the original restaurant was under construction, so we had to use another area) was so terrible- I only had a bite of dry pastry and a coffee- and even after letting them know that I no longer wanted to eat there- was charged full price- nearly $20USD. Any other hotel would have apologized and taken that off the bill- knowing I ate nothing. Despite my complaints of uncleanliness and poor food- generally, the staff were lovely and tried to be helpful. The service is fine. But you can do much better for the price in Kathmandu.

This property is old and the recommended by the U.S. organizations as it i meets the U.S. standards for safety. But it is an old hotel, bathroom smells of urine, no plugs in normal range. Everything is under the tables or behind the end table. They only give three towels, no face towel. These are first world issues. But for the cost you are paying you do not get the items you need. The people are great. But I am sure the management just wants to make money and cut the cost down.

It's all about the money

This hotel has a great name, but the reality doesn't quite match up. After staying there several times we found that the least expensive rooms are in an old part of the hotel and haven't been updated in some time. The A/C often cannot go below 23C, even at full power. Paying an extra $10-20/ night gets a room that is much much nicer. Booking through the hotel directly gets free airport transfers. Booking through hotels.com means paying for the airport transfer ($15) but paying less for the room. Paying for the airport transfer is usually well worth it. Room staff is friendly, but be sure to put the safety lock on the door if you don't want them to enter immediately after they knock. Think of the knock as a warning that they are coming in rather than an inquiry as to whether or not it is OK.

Restaurants at the hotel are quite expensive. Price wise it makes lots of sense to add the in-house buffet breakfast to the room rate before you get there. The service, even with the buffet, is slow and the restaurant seems to frequently be overwhelmed at breakfast when it can be difficult to find a table or the item on the buffet you are interested in. The evening buffet is 2-2.5 times what you would pay at an outside restaurant. If eating in the hotel for a meal other than breakfast, choose \"The Chimney\" restaurant for a better meal at a price similar to the buffet.

This was my second business trip to Kathmandu and second visit to the Yak & Yeti.. Great staff, but the room amenities (I was on the Exec. Floor) leave much to be desired. A very cheap iron and ironing board literally damaged my clothes. Also, Wi-fi for more than two divices was not stable. Yet, great staff!

You are right in the middle of everything. Very convenient. The hotel however needs major make over. Rooms are dated. Outside environment with nice garden is lovely. The Executive Lounge is not much Executive. So not worth it. The heritage rooms are nicer and spacious. But the shower and bathroom door location so poorly designed. Staff are excellent. I stay here because of convenience.

Beautiful hotel with welcoming staff

I live this hotel for its freindly warm welcome, well appointed rooms and luxurious bed linen. The biggest attraction for me is the way the staff takes care of the guests - you feel very welcome and special. And the garden with the runners track and resident ducks and wildlife around the pond are an added plus. I love watching the ducks be guided off to bed each night, the pond with resident birds and fish are a delight. The ducks have their own little houses to sleep in and come out to tend the gardens during the day. This hotel is so beautiful. I recommend you stay at least once just to experience tranquility in chaotic Kathmandu. The prices are so reasonable you’ll probably want to stay longer.

(And the food is great as well! )

Hotel tired and needs upgrading/ cleaning. Room tariff is overpriced. Lights in the room weren't working and unfixed despite a request for maintenance. Business center facilities not functioning- unable to upload documents. WiFi an additional cost not included in room tariff. Breakfast adequate but could be so much better. Watch out Yak n Yeti, new hotels are coming to Kathmandu and you need to improve facilities and services.

The hotel was a great place to stay but I was disappointed nonetheless! It was advertised as a 5 star hotel, however it would fit the standard of a 3.5 star hotel! The room was average; the A/C wasn't working properly and it was very humid in the room! They sent someone who claimed it was fixed, however it remained humid (I think it was standard temperature)! The staff was friendly and the outside view of the hotel was very nice (old palace), however, that alone doesn't make a hotel 5 star! I liked my stay there but I think I overpaid for this one!

Even though it is advertised with free WIFI, the WIFI is expensive.

The hotel is very nice, clean, with a helpful staff. There are lots of noisy birds flying around the hotel. Beautiful gardens and pool area. Decent breakfast buffet, free luggage storage is hugh!!

Centrally located, close to everything, shopping, variety of restaurants, local attractions.

My only complaint water temp could be a bit warmer.

Would not recommend this hotel is due to the lack of Free WIFI. At the very least they should be free WIFI in the public area.

I enjoyed staying there - we stayed there on each end of our Nepal trip. Airport transfers were fast and free. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The Wi-Fi was a little spotty at times, but it was functional.

Many annoying things which could be improved:
- Wifi is not free: i thought this was 2017 though
- No airport shuttle: Hyatt has one
- Deceptive pictures: look at the one i attached: i booked a \"deluxe heritage\" which turned out to be quite different from the pictures online - staff acknowledged that the \"deluxe heritage\" i had was not up to online pics standard though and changed me to one which was closer to what i booked
- Slow service: not specific to Yak&Yeti, but hey. Standards.
- Staff pointing at stuff and waiving when giving indications: not bringing you to facilities and pretty much leaving you on your own
- Double payment checkout: staff asked to pay room charge again when i had already paid online. Fortunately i checked on the spot, but could have been very annoying if not. I am sure it was not done on purpose, but still worsen the experience.
Overall, all these things add up to an average experience at best.
\"Lawn is nice though\" as one other comment says.

Awesome hotel

Stayed at the hotel numerous times throughout our trip. They stored our luggage for us while we went trekking, and again while we visited pokhara. Nicest hotel we stayed in during our month in Nepal. Excellent breakfast and dinner and staff was always friendly and courteous. Went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. When we stayed other places, we couldn't wait to get back to Yak and Yeti!

Lack of basic amenities (I.e toothbrush) ready available. For the pricing I paid, at least should include wifi. Other hotels with the same level of pricing I paid , wifi included in the package. Or at least offer a wifi complimentary for first timer when requested. Take it as goodwill gesture for business traveller and you'll definitely get a repeat customer. Too bad , your team didnt recognise the opportunity and Yak and Yeti will not be my top consideration when booking my stay for my next visit.

Luxury in Kathmandu

This is a lovely luxurious hotel in Kathmandu. It's very grand, quite expensive for Nepalese standards but a lovely treat.

The hotel staff are fabulous and everyone I came into contact with was very friendly, helpful and super professional.

The building itself and the grounds are beautiful and kept spotless. One of the wings is currently being renovated / restored but that didn't affect my stay.

My room was very nice and well laid out, the bed was big and very comfortable. There was an in room safe, hairdryer and good air con. The bathroom was nice with a lovely powerful shower, there was a nice selection of toiletries.

The Chimney restaurant is currently closed but the Sunrise restaurant was nice for breakfast and dinner. The dining room staff were great and paid such attention to detail.

The location is good, about a fifteen minute walk into Thamel (close enough but far enough away!). There are a few shops very close and a couple of supermarkets a few minutes walk away.

The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the wifi access - there is complimentary wifi but limited to a certain time, I stayed in five hotels in Nepal (from budget to higher end) and this is the only one where there wasn't full complimentary wifi access.

Lovely decor in the suite. Dinner in the restaurant was very good, although it needs a wider selection of wines by the glasses as opposed to just house wine.
Reception staff were very efficient and friendly. Lovely grounds and beautiful building exeterior.

Lovely hotel, a calm within Kathmandu

My husband and I stayed here for two nights after touring around Nepal. It was a lovely treat for us at the end of our holiday. We had been staying in $25 a night hotels for the past 2 weeks. The bathrooms were a breath of fresh air compared to our other hotels. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The views from our room to the mountains, was lovely.

Best pick in Nepal - you won't be disappointed!

I can't say enough about the Yak and Yeti. Anyone around town who we mentioned it to was very impressed that we were staying there. A neurosurgeon conference was being held while we were staying there and then when we came back for our second stay, heads of state were staying there. The staff bent over backwards in every way, extra water, transfers to and from the airport, money exchange, early check in, answering any questions, handing our luggage. By our second stay, we felt like we were coming home to our favorite little hotel. The shops connected to the hotel had surprisingly good prices when compared to around town. And we had a great dinner at the Chimney restaurant in the hotel. But to be honest, the real reason to stay here is the buffet dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And I don't usually like buffets. First of all, the breakfast was included in the room price. They have a huge selection of excellent food from all over the world: Mediterranean, Chinese, Middle East, American and more. Salads and fresh fruit abound.

On our second stay they even upgraded us to the Business floor that had really nice extra amenities, including a small private breakfast room. The grounds were well tended and beautiful to look at. And the steam, sauna and massage were great after a long flight.
