Great location with very helpful staff. Worst add of the main street but close to the best coffee shop in town \"Java\".

My stay was really very good and comfortable. The staff took every step to make me happy and upgraded me to a m ore expensive room.The place is located away from noise and pollusion. There is a nice garden sitting area. Wifi has problems in certain areas. A new property, the international brand of Marriot is opening next door which will make this area more attractive and safer. Curreently, a walk from the main road to the proeprty is difficult and unsafe.

'Character' Hotel central to Thamel tourist area

I was staying on my own for 5 days after my daughters had left for home and a little apprehensive. The great thing about this hotel is the people who come through. There is a garden with tables dotted around - make use of this as I met so many nice people and got to go on more adventures. It can be a little challenging with the power being shut off for most of the day but on the whole it was manageable. The food was mostly nice with only one incident of cold/not very nice food.

It is not a hotel even worse than many motels in North America. No water, the pot, nothing. They seemed do not care about family and children, they separated my children room in 2nd floor and Ground floor, means separated family in very inconvenienced. They collected money for 30 min 3 children's parachute/paragliding in contracted, they provided less than 10 min. for two kids, one for may be 15min., they used earthquake to bully children and travelers. upset about the situation.

Staff were elusive and their advice, considering we arrived late at night was slim to say the least. Woken at 5 am by the fire hose cleaning of foot path outside.
Sheets on the bed were unique, like sleeping at the beach, with sand and just a general feeling of not clean.

Hotel Blue Horizon Review

Hotel Staff is great and operate a business of tours to take in Nepal. I had a good time. only concern is heat and electricity in hotel goes off at certain times of day to conserve energy. Staying in the room on days you want to take it easy is a little difficult without lights and heat. Showering was a little hard too. It took forever for water to heat up. If you can overlook these inconveniences and appreciate the friendliness of the staff and the good food, then this hotel is not so bad. the tours they provided were excellent too.

Good quiet location, close to Thamel. Nice garden area to sit outside. Room was dirty, and drains smelly. Room had a fridge which was unusable because of the smell inside it. Shower curtain mould stained.Despite a large percentage of westerners making up their clientele you would have thought they might have lifted their game. Showers were hot, Staff helpful.

I booked this jotel over Expedia and was pleasently surprised when I arrived. Staff is amazongly friendly, professional and speak English very well. The restaurant makes good food and the tourist services are awesome. The rooms are cozy and the proximity to Thamel market and the Garden if Dreams is a plus.

A Rare Gem

From the moment you enter the foyer you feel an air of tranquillity surround you. The warm welcome given over a steaming pot of tea and the smiling faces of the staff allow you to settle into the Hotel Blue Horizon with ease. The hotel itself is clean and smartly presented, the food is exceptional, beds are comfortable and price is reasonable. What made this a memorable stay for me were the staff, they quickly warmed my heart to Nepal. They loved a chat over the day's events and were helpful in offering suggestions/organising things to see and do. My next trip to Kathmandu will include staying in this memorable hotel.

A Mixed Bag

It is a little tricky leaving a review for this hotel as it has highs and lows.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is good. They organise good tours at reasonable prices.

However the hotel is tucked down an alley, unlit at night. Just outside the alley you would find a lot of \"ladies of negotiable affection\". The rooms are very cold, with just a wooden door between you and the weather outside. I was unable to get the water in my room any hotter than 'tepid'.

I would suppose for budget travellers the price is attractive, just be warned there are downsides.

The quality of service was out of this world. We were only supposed to stay one night but due to a canceled flight we stayed two! Everyone was very helpful and the Indian breakfast was delicious! Just around the block from the garden of dreams and walking distance to shopping and other sights.

Hotel with all necessery facilities

This is a nice hotel with all the necessery basic facilities (do not expect luxury). The hotel has its own travel agent who is able to provide car service for siteseeing with an English speeking tour guide for reasonable price.
The hotel also has a very nice garden where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The location is very good, close by the shopping area where you can buy souveniers, nepali clothes etc. for a good price.

The Hotel was not clean in many ways - my room was not cleaned for 2 days. It had a foul smell coming through the windows. The AC in the room was not working and also the TV was grainy throughout. Further, unlike what was promised, the hotel did not provide me hotel drop which was told to me last minute. I had to shell out money just for that.

A decent hotel, despite the considerations stated.

For a hotel in Kathmandu, this one is very nice. While staying here, I had everything I needed at a decent price.

However, when the hotel states it offers 'Free airport shuttle' be aware that this only means pre-arranged transport from the airport to hotel, and not a return service. I was caught out by booking a more expensive room, so I could have transport back to the airport, to find that it wasn't actually the case. A taxi to the airport would only be very cheap anyway. Secondly, the hotel is situated at the end of quite a long allyway. While I am confident this ally is generally safe, at night time it is not lit up, and can be a bit scary to walk alone. (it was for me at least) - in daylight it is perfectly fine.

The food is very good, and my room was nice and maintained. There is a nice private area to sit and eat. The hotel is in a good location, very close to the garden of dreams, and the former royal palace. It is also only a safe 5 min walk to the central Thamel area.The hotel seemed popular with an array of international people, who all looked happy to be there too.

A unique service forgives a lot!

Nepal is a developing country, that lacks in many basic facilities; like the electricity supply for example. The staff in Blue Horizon works really nicely to make you forget all the lacks in quality of the premises. Electricity is cut of half of a day, but they have a generator to make sure the most important time of the day; evening and night, you can have electricty to charge your cameras, lap-tops and phones. The hotel itself would really need some basic inexpensive fixing; mainly new paint, some new power outlets, some fixing of water taps, cleaning of airconditioners, washing of the curtains, etc. These are all very cheap things to fix, and would make the place very shiny at very low expense. For some reason no one sees these important to be done. The staff in the place is super friendly, and very professional in providing all the help regarding your visit. I myself am a manager of an accommodation service, and my experience is that my staff would need to learn some things from Blue Horizon staff, and Blue Horizon staff would maybe learn some things from our maintenance staff. But as the title says; the staff of Blue Horizon makes you really forgive all the quality lacks of the hotel itself. I recommend Blue Horizon to all!

Overrated, dirty, rude

We booked this room because it included airport shuttle, breakfast and daily yoga in the room price. On arrival we presented our printed confirmation with those benefits written and confirmed. We were told airport shuttle is for arrivals only, you have to pay for breakfast and yoga is no longer offered. We were told to speak to the manager if we disputed those refusals. But the manager would not be available till the next day, after we left. The staff is rude and indifferent. No offer of help to carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs. The room we were given was dirty with peeling and battered walls, smelled of cigarette smoke and mold. The bathroom had broken, leaking fixtures, a broken mirror and cracked glass shelf. The whole hotel is in need of cleaning and painting. The garden does not resemble the pictures. The hotel is located across from a construction site which ran late into the night. I read previous reviews and this hotel does not resemble the reviews. It is way overrated.

Hot Water didn't work!!!!

I stayed in a room on the top floor and the shower was cold. The hotel staff told me to run it for a while but it didn't get hot. A staff member came to look at it but did nothing. I suspect he knew all about it but didn't care since guest only stay a couple of nights anyway.

Overall good first impression of Kathmandu

The hotel served its purpose as a place to stay, and then some. I was picked up at the airport by a friendly younger gentleman who navigated through the bumpy roads to the hotel in the darkness with unnerving ease. It was tucked away down an alleyway, which was a nice escape from the hustling streets nearby. This was my first stop in the country upon arrival and I wasn't disappointed. The staff was friendly enough and addressed me by name throughout my stay, and that gave it a greater sense of friendliness and familiarity. They were a little aggressive about getting me to book further travel plans through them even though I had told them more than once throughout our first conversation that my flights and plans were already booked. However, if I hadn't already made the plans in advance, the option to book right there at my home base would probably have been appealing to me. The room was spacious and bathroom was clean with warm running water, which is always welcome after along couple days of travelling. The majority of other travellers there seemed to be middle-aged caucasian couples and families, so if you're a young adventurer looking to meet others like yourself, this may not be your best option.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay and I would endorse another travellers decision to check it out!

Lovely hotel in this amazing city

Although this hotel is very simple, it offers a great experience to travelers
The multiple gardens and terraces give you the opportunity to get involved with Kathmandu's atmosphere.. And hotel rooms are just sweet (they might put courtains in the shower)
Airport drop/pick up is great
Location is good, 4 minutes walk to Thamel
Breakfast should be included
They help you get tourist guides, driver, or anything you need ..just beware of the overpriced fares you have to pay for this

Good hotel to use as a base to explore Kathmandu

the hotel is very well placed - quiet location but easily accessible to Tamil. Free collection from the airport.
Staff very helpful (and fluent English speakers) - first room was not right for us and they moved us without any fuss. Our deluxe room had a fan (very efficient) and air con, double and single bed, settee, tv. Plumbing a little quirky but bathrooms etc cleaned daily - remember to leave the key with reception though. Fly screens on all windows so no problem with mosquitos.
Generator ensures some power during Nepal power cuts.
Food was good and not expensive - a good choice for breakfast, and the main meals very nice (recommend the chicken marsala)
Booking cars + trips through them seemed to be reasonable value - we had a car for the day to Baktapur - much more comfortable than the taxis. Also arranged the Everest flight + driver for us.
All in all I think the hotel good value for money and a nice base to explore Kathmandu and the surrounding area

The staff are incredible so friendly and go out of their way to help you. The food is wonderful - they made a special effort to cater for my daughter's requests. They arranged good guides and porters for daughter's trek and when she needed help they were on hand to assist immediately !

This hotel and its staff is/are wonderful - I am indebted !

I plan to return to Kathmandu and will definitely be checking in again

Oasis of Thamel Tranquility

WOW! What a great little place. Tucked a couple hundred feet off the main road into hustle and bustle of Thamel, you're in an oasis of peace and quiet. After dodging motorcycles and experiencing the cacophony of the city, the Blue Horizon is a perfect counterpoint of tranquility. The courtyard is a perfect place to relax with a beer or tea, read a book or catch up on email (free wifi). Any inconveniences at the Hotel (electricity, etc.) are due to the city itself. BTW, the hotel has a generator that mitigates this power outage problem.

The room was clean and comfortable. The cook/wait staff were courteous and the food was excellent. The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was good. Mr Ram arranged a wonderful night out for me and a sunrise trip to see the Himalayas and Bhaktapur.

I was check in at around local time 11:40pm, it is my first come to Kathmandu. But the hotel room wasn't nice, at least not clean. The hotel staff not honest, when I told they help me to book flight to pohkara, and my room rate should be including breakfast, but no body ask me about this? The room water is not free for complimentary. No good hotel I won't recommend.

This was a reasonable hotel for the money paid. Some problems were that the hot water is supplied by solar heating. This is all very eco-friendly, but it does mean that there is no hot water in the mornings. The hotel deals quite well with the constant power cuts in Kathmandu. They have a generator that keeps at least one light in each room going when there is no mains power. As the hotel is a little way out from central Thamel, I had hoped that it would be quieter. But there was still music until late, and what sounded like dozens of dogs barking and howling throughout the night. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Great hotel, just away from the chaos of Thamel

We stayed here several times in November,2011 and loved it. We got different rooms each time, and although varying facilities all had good beds and most things worked OK .. it had a really great courtyard restaurant which served good food fairly fast. They offered a valuable luggage storage service for no charge and all the staff were very friendly. Our biggest gripe was with reception .. they would defer any request we made for as long as possible and they made even small requests infuriatingly difficult ..it would all be \"nods\" and \"yes\" and yet 12 hrs later nothing would be done still.
That said, the hotel is in a great position, about 5 mins walk from greater Thamel down a side lane, and was an absolute sanctuary from the chaos and noise of Thamel. It was also virtually next door to the \"Garden of Dreams\" which has to be one of the most delightful spots in Kathmandu. It was great value for money and I would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Kathmandu.

Dirty. No shower - just a tap on the wall in the toilet/bathroom. Bad bed - very sagging old mattress. Vomit on dining room floor went un-noticed by staff when serving breakfast.

An amazing spot in kathmandu

It might not be the 5 stars hotel, but it's well located, a small walk and you're on the main street, on Thamel 'avenue'. Room sizes vary a lot. Service is good, and the stay is nice. You can enjoy your food in the garden, which is a very nice one. Staff is good, and they can facilitate a lot of things.
guest bathroom in the lobby is a bit weird, but it's an experience.
It's an overall nice place to stay, quite different from the 'regular' fancy 5 stars hotel.

Dont expect more in Kathmandu

its a 1star in other countries, but for Nepal its ok. Clean hot water for showers and clean sheets to sleep. Towels arent clean though. No breakfast, but you can order from the restaurant, (1 star snack and not a restaurant) Food is bad and dangerous to eat in Nepal. Bring your canned food instead. Staff are friendly and knows how to speak English. Location is very good. close to Thamel and far from its noise and pollution. Garden next to room is cute. ENjoy Kathmandu, people are amazingly nice.

We booked this hotel based on the good reviews we have read. When we arrived at night we were given a room that was absolutely awful - it smelled bad, the furniture and bed sheets were old and not clean and the windows didn't open. It was awful but we were insured that it was a deluxe room! The next day we asked if we could change rooms and we were given a room on a higher floor which was much nicer - at least there was daylight and it didn't smell as bad. The furniture and bedsheets were still very worn. During the night dogs outside wouldn't stop barking. On the bright side, there's a lovely garden which is a nice place to hang out. Hotel is about 10/15 minute walk to all the restaurants in Thamel. Don't think we would stay there again.

Hotellet i seg selv ligger veldig fin til, bare 200 m å gå til ei travel og moro gate med mange butikker og bare 2,7 km å gå til 3 flotte butikksenter hvor standarden ikke står tilbake for norske senter. Der hadde de alt og mer til. Også kort vei til markedsgater hvor det krydde av salgsboder i fleng, hvor en kan prute på prisen, noe jeg anbefaler å gjøre. Det første rommet var av miserabel standard, og sto ikke i stil med hva som reklameres for. En klage førte til at jeg fikk et bitte litt bedre rom, men utsikten var like kjedelig. Utsikt rett i en skitten bakgård hvor det ble jobbet hele dagen med bråkete verktøy, og hvor det bodde fugler som holdt et forferdelig leven døgnet rundt. Aircondition virket ikke, så om kvelden var tempen bare rundt 12 grader på rommet. Ikke noe særlig på dagtid heller, da rommet lå i fullstendig skygge. Ingen utsikt som er verd å nevne. Skitne vegger, gulv, (måtte vise renholdsbetjeningen hvordan gulv vaskes), skap og tildels ødelagte vinduer, sengegavelen skitten. Badet med store vannskader fra rommet rett over. Ingen stikkontakter var i orden, men kunne til nød brukes. Ingen brannvarslere, ingen skilting om rømningsveier, ingen nødutganger. Betjeningen var fantastisk etter forholdene å bedømme, de gjorde sitt beste, så betjeningen er jeg godt fornøy med.

Un accueil très froid, j'avais réservé une chambre deluxe vue jardin et le propriétaire m'a assuré que j'avais réservé une chambre standard alors que je lui montrais le mail de confirmation. Après discussion, il me dit qu'il va me donner une chambre \"super deluxe\". Clairement, de l'ironie.
Résultat, une grande chambre certes, vue rue, une salle de bain sale, de mauvaises odeurs, énormément de bruit dès 5h du matin (provenant du personnel surtout) alors que l'hôtel se trouve dans une impasse, le wifi ne fonctionne pas dans les chambres. Il existe des centaines d'hôtels à Katmandou Thamel, vous pouvez largement trouver mieux au même prix !

Hôtel humide mais dans un lieu calme

Nous avons été déçues de l'état des chambres et de la salle de bain compte tenu des photos et commentaires trouvés sur le net. La chambre non fumeur que nous avions demandée puait la cigarette. Ils ont acceptés de nous changer de chambre mais du coup elle était plus petite. Nous avons eu très froid la nuit, il n'y avait qu'une seule bonne couverture (nous en avons reçu une seconde après demande de notre part) et la forte humidité nous rendait malade.
Le \"free lift\" de l'aéroport n'en est pas vraiment un, le taximen a insisté lourdement et plusieurs fois pour que nous lui donnions un pourboire très généreux, même après avoir été payé par l'hôtel sous nos yeux.
A part cela, le personnel est correct, le jardin et les terrasses sont supers, le petit déjeuner très bon.
