Staying at Heritage Madurai was the highlight of my trip — truly the best and only best part of my Madurai visit! From the moment I arrived, every single staff member was exceptionally warm, kind, and hospitable. Why only tarriff increase and not service

Not a new property that we stay, however the increase is only in tarriff but all remain the same, dirty sofa ,which we requested to clean as previous visitor left it dirty, Despite ordering food to be delivered 90 minutes in advance arrived 30 minutes late. The plunge pool bottom is very soiled and unclean, mosquito bite left me without sleep whole night,went for a nice experience at big tarriff , but I got only the above, lots of improvement required, this property can be better.

I stayed 24-25. When I booked through kayak, I Expedia booked me for 24-25. How can you book me hotel on day of 25th for 24th. May be Expedia confused because 25th India is 24th in USA. Called to change date to 25-26, but. O inventory left. Ask for refund no refund yet they say they will email hotel. Green oasis in the middle of Madurai! Huge property with spaced out clusters of rooms. Lots of trees and shaded walkways. The Rooms are quite spacious, likely built during the colonial. And have been preserved well.

Staff and service were great like most good hotels in India, very polite and they take care of guests and their needs very well!

Huge pool and lounging area. The pool at night makes for great pictures!

Awesome buffet breakfast/dinner. The Banyan bar is nice, literally next to two massive Banyan trees!

Evening walk in the shed walkways was an awesome experience. Not very far from the Meenakshi Temple, took a taxi and we were there in about 15-20 min.

A very nice atmosphere . Jasmin spa massagers Buana and the kerela guy was very experienced and gave a very good massage.

There was a dead cockroach and cob webs behind the beds so not very clean. There was a lot of mosquitos at the outer dining area in the evening. Please put some incense to acoid this mosquitoes

We expected at least a 3 star facility. This fell far short. The room was the smallest of the group. The bathroom lacked proper drainage. Shower water ran all over. The toilet sink had water stains. The cushion had coffee stains not cared for. The bathroom did not have storage space or place for toilet roll. The place needs a lot of make over. It is over priced for the value it offers. The saving grace is the nice open yards, banyon trees and the courteous dining room staff.

I was a bit a disappointed to be honest. I wasn’t expecting the toilet and shower to be positioned outside the room, so when you need to go to the toilet or shower you are harassed by mosquitos!!! I didn’t think it was super clean, the dining room chair covers were white but visibly dirty and looked stained. The blinds in my room were not easy to operate to get natural sunlight inside. However the staff were very lovely. I would not go back, I don’t think the place deserves 5 stars. I’d give it 3 or 4 at most.

I was highly disappointed in the service we received for the price and class of property. The staff was junior and felt untrained.

The restaurant staff especially was not good as almost everything seemed chaotic and unorganized. We had to ask multiple times for small things and everything was significantly delayed. It looks like they optimize for buffet and not prepared for ala carte but buffet food is mediocre at best.

Room service was also not top-notch. There were several instances where simple things like tea arrived in 90 minutes.

I was quite disappointed that they closed the pool at 7 p.m. It looks like a beautiful pool but we came back around 7 pm every day after sightseeing and could not use the pool.

Overall a beautiful resort poorly run and managed.

This place is beautiful. Staff is great. They genuinely take care of the guests. Villa's however do not have privacy. 4 villas are located in one huge house with outside common space. During our stay we had large group staying beside us and they made such noise that we could sleep every night until 1am. Complaining to the reception didn’t really help as they kept saying they are celebrities and they can’t do much.

Bathrooms are run down.. shower buttons are leaky. Villa flooring is bad, that the tiles make sound everytime somebody walks. At night they can be disturbing.

A great place to stay in Madurai

Our stay was excellent. On the first night the A/C in our room failed and the hotel responded instantly, and as soon as they figured that it could be fixed quickly, they upgraded us to a better room. If our room was great this one was even better!

The hotel is very tastefully built and maintained very well. It is an oasis of good taste and sylvan surroundings in the middle of Madurai.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is excellent.

They are also very eco friendly. We appreciate their supplying clean water in glass bottles instead of the usual commercial plastic bottles of water.

The only negative point was that there is a party hall in the campus and sometimes there is plenty of noise arising from there. Disturbs the otherwise tranquil atmosphere.

We initially stayed at the Heritage on the basis that it was designed by the Sri lankan architect Geoffery Bawa. The experience was completely worth it, the main buildings are beautifully crafted, and the residences retain an old world charm while being very comfortable. The property itself is fantastic, the grounds are a real oasis within Madurai. We made great use of the temple pool which is as amazing as in the photos. The entire staff are wonderful and attentive without fuss and look after the little details.

Inefficiently Run, Disgusting Quality.

Check In : Prolonged process with many people filling many copies of many forms.
\"Deluxe Club\" Rooms (2 rooms single-occupancy, for my brother and I). : Small, dark, dingy room sparsely furnished with Primitive Furniture. No exhaust fan in bathroom, and windows must not be opened because of mosquitoes (no mesh screens). Usable as a storage cell.
Paid to upgrade to a \"Villas\" (2). More space, same quality. No exhaust fan.
Restaurant Food : Gave a hefty advance tip to the chef and repeated the order 3 times for 5 items (2 persons). One item was made as ordered, one was missing, three were made against clear and specific directions.
Restaurant Food Service : Went for an early dinner. About 12 Servers standing and chatting, a few walking about in random directions. Not one came to ask about water or wine, till asked repeatedly.
Timeliness of food order : Placed the order at 445 PM for 600 PM. Told the chef that we would arrive at 630 due to room change. Arrived at 630 and informed the server to inform the chef that we were there. The food came at 700, 'hot' appetizer and 'hot' main course brought together, all stone cold. Reason : the food had been prepared for 600 PM.
Check Out : Equally inefficient.
Summary : This may have become the 'Heritage' of India, but it is not the Heritage of Bhaarat : the land that created millions of David-quality carvings, musically-tuned resonant stone columns in temples and silk woven with gold threads. My last stay at a 'Heritage' property.

Lovely ambience with seventy three rooms spread across seventeen acres in low rise structures amongst a lot of trees. The traditional architecture gives you the feeling of being in a village but the rooms are well furnished.

Beautiful setting, management let's it down.

Lovely hotel, the grounds are peaceful and the over all ambiance nice enough although it lacks a bit of soul. Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean, just a bit sparse in the furnishing and decor.

Most of the staff were absolutely delightful, however the management really let the whole experience down. They were rude, unhelpful and treat their customers with a total lack of respect.

They have been very poorly trained. We were badgered by one of the women at reception to fill out their review while we were in the middle of a meeting, not just once but several times. The restaurant manager was unpleasantly pushy, it was just uncomfortable. We actually ordered room service on one of the nights to avoid him.

We were so looking forward to our time in Madurai at the end of a hectic business trip and left feeling completely disappointed, actually angry about the whole experience.

Not the India I used to know and love.

Well, i stayed for couple of nights in this resort. The only thing that made me rate at Excellent was the customer services and service. I was given a room which was not private to begin with and realized the swimming pool was dirty... then i had to call the personnel to clean it up. I would have expected the management to have done this prior handing the room to me. This was definitely not to my liking. I had a request to switch the room, which was graciously accepted but the newer room had tons of mosquitoes. One of the All out was not functional and had to change the 2nd day after realizing the impact on the first night of my stay there.

It's a huge resort and it is a disappointment on the cleanliness part and few of the food orders that I made were soggy and chill. That did not made my evening for sure.

If at all I decide to go Madurai and stay in this hotel the only thing that will force me is customer service.

We stayed in the facility that included the private plunge pool. It was absolutely amazing. Including the fact that where we stayed was designed by the famous architect Bawa and his apprentice was very surreal - an amazing indoor outdoor flow. The facility was well maintained and clean. The breakfast and dinner buffets were all you could hope for (continental as well as a large array of local food). We didn’t want to leave this place. I would come back here in a heartbeat!

Trying to be a 5 Star resort- Falls way short

I knew something was amiss at check in when we were told our bed choice was not availble but that we could pay more and upgrade the room and that the room we paid for was very small? We declined and went with our booked room which was not anything like the photos that are shown when booking. Where we thought we would have been a plunge pool instead it was just uncut grass, weeds and garbage (see photos). Also there was \"no detailed\" sitting area as the website reads.

The room they gave us was right on the main road, it's India so it was non-stop horn honking. We suffered through the first night and the hotel reluctanly moved us to a quieter room. If you to book make sure you are not put in a room near the main road.

We enjoyed our two night stay at this older charming hotel. The facilities included everything we needed for a short stay including a great location. The grounds are lovely, pool inviting, the food delicious, staff friendly, the service excellent. The club room was adequate although small with outdated decor, could use fresh paint, some updating and improved furniture placement. Recommend booking the larger more expensive rooms. Regret not requesting an upgrade on arrival. We would still recommend this hotel since our overall experience was very positive.

Location in typical unpleasant chaotic part of Indian city. Just not the value of a place like Raintree St Mary’s in Chennai.

A Place from Days of the Raj

A good location and ambience. Rooms are long and narrow- bathroom and showers are basic. Service is good and so are staff. There are several areas for improvement with only minor training and simple upgrading (nothing fancy) to take this hotel to 3.5-4 star status. Mosquitoes were a problem in the bar and the only provision was to give guests was anti-mosquito cream. Rajeev and couple of his team members were quick to take up recommendations and bridge the gaps immediately. I would use this hotel again as it offers a good location and reasonably good service for the price.

Elegant compound provides a haven

Heritage Madurai is a lovely compound of buildings and well shaded lanes lovingly updated to meet modern standards. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the pool addictive. It is a little out of the busy temple area so transport is necessary. I found it a little awkward walking through the restaurant to get to the room, and similarly with the pool we walked through the gym since
The path to pool showers is unclear. The neighborhood around the hotel has a Thomas cook - the hotel no longer provides foreign exchange. We did not try the spa but I'm sure it would have been sybaritic. Indian food was excellent but western food indifferent.

Heritage was a peaceful haven amidst the hustle bustle city just outside its doors with a serene calm atmosphere. The Place was eco friendly and lived up to its name with the large trees and lovely grounds with abundantly nurtured nature and singing birds (cuckoos). The highlight of the Place were the lovely staff right from the security posted at the main gates and reception area to the in room dining and restaurant team (Suresh at reception,t Pandiyan who took us and our luggage to our rooms in a buggy , Rajeev and Bharathiraja who served us food with such grace and lovely manners) come to mind for their lovely friendly yet professional and positive helpful attitude as well as the house keeping team (the young girl Pandeeswari was a delight as she wished us a pleasant day every time we passed her) and kept our rooms impeccably clean. The rooms were cool and relaxed with a good ambience and heritage feel. The manager in the first day asked us for our feedback and when we mentioned that it would have been helpful to have a mirror in the room as it is a basic requirement (there was only one mirror in the bathroom and none in the room at the time ), they genuinely heeded to it and a mirror was fixed in every room the very next day iwhich demonstrates what a customer focussed and responsive team they are. We'll be back for sure.

Nice Property, Pathetic Service at Restaurant

We had pathetic experience at their Restuarant. We were 4 adults and 1 kid and ordered 4 soups and 2 starters. 3 of the soups came and the 4th one came at least 30 minutes after 3 soups were served. One starter came with the 4th soup and then they wanted to serve main course, saying the second starter will take time. We insisted that we want the second starters, which was chicken tangadi kebab, they bought after 20 minutes, which was not cooked properly. In short it was totally unacceptable level of service from a restaurant at this kind of hotel. The F&B Manager came and apologised for the lapses. They waived off some charges for few dishes and the bill after those waivers was plus Rs.3K.

Comfortable and quite place to stay

The luxury Villa that we stayed was really nice and comfortable. The dining was quite expensive compared to the other options that was available close by but the breakfast buffet provided was excellent.

The staffs in the reception and welcome desk could have been little more welcoming and smiling to give us a good start for the stay! Few things to improve in that way (you are allowed to expect this especially when you are checking in a star rated hotel).

The service people were responsive and quick to sort the issues out for us.

Wonderful stay here with very friendly staff and clean facilities

Western shut-in, nicke and dimed over dumb things

Don't come here if you're under the age of 60. It's like a farm for Westerners who want to \"explore\" India but are too frightened to really go for it. Also, its not close to a 5 star hotel. An average 3 for Western-expectes cleanliness and 1-2 for experience, would say.

Mostly clean, and yes they have AC and western bathrooms if that's important, but its all the little things they mess up on.

Wifi was barely usable. Do not expect it to work.

Will say the laundry service was a lifesaver after travelling a week through Southern India, but we paid a lot for it. The staff is mostly nice but they are under constraints of management rules you can see.

Everything is difficult, from adding mini bar to your bill (you have to pay cash apparantely), to actually paying for it (we gave 500 rupees for 100 charge, and the guy took it and never gave us change until we demanded it because we knew thats a scam in India. It could have been an honest mistake, but who knows after all the problems we had here).

The food, of which we just had breakfast, was fine but nothing to write home about. Somehow they managed to serve crappy coffee too.

Honestly, we were embarassed to stay at such a Western shut-in hotel. This was the worst stay we've had so far and we've stayed at a variety of hotels and homestays in the week we've been in India so far. Lesson learned - we should have done more research on this one.

This place surpassed all expectations. Set in a beautifully landscaped garden, this massive area is an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Madurai. The rooms are excellent, wifi is fast, the pool is amazing, food is wonderful, cocktails are unique and incredible and the staff are some of the nicest you will encounter in all of India. Stop searching for a place to stay, spend a little cash and treat yourself to Heritage Madurai. You will be glad you did
