The very definition of retro. Basic room, clean, and the bed was more comfortable than I expected. I am pretty low maintenance when it comes to a place to stay. Clean room, hot shower, comfortable bed. That’s what I got. The owner/operator was super friendly and enthusiastic, and the assistant was very helpful in getting me into my room when we didn’t initially have an entry card. The one complaint would be that the only source of heat was a space heater, the central heat was not working. If I know that will not be an issue in the future, I would stay there again.

This is a great little motel. The room was newly renovated, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The place was very quiet. The owner greeted us and was so very nice and accommodating. There was a coffee maker, microwave, and mini refrigerator. I would easily recommend this place.

The motel is an older property, but well-kept. My room was clean, no weird/funky smells, and the bed was very comfy. As a solo female traveler, I was a bit apprehensive. However, Howie, the owner, was so nice and friendly and made me feel very at ease. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

I appreciated the positive nature of the owner and his willingness to answer my questions and to assure I had as good stay. The facilities are a little tired and in need of an upgrade, but everything worked as it should, the room was pretty clean, and the rates were the fairest around. Plus if you like to walk, you can access many of Abilene’s coolest spots from the Diamond Motel. I would definitely stay here again. I usually stay at hotels near I70, but there’s not a lot to walk to from there. There is good coffee to be had at the gas station across the street from the Diamond Motel.

This is an excellent budget motel. We stayed on Christmas Eve til the day after Christmas. We arrived fairly late and the innkeeper could not have been friendlier or more helpful. He didn't act like we were putting him out even though it was Christmas Eve.

The room was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable and there are a ton of free movie channels. The wifi worked perfectly for us throughout the stay as well. We will definitely be back!

Abilene, Kansas is SO charming and delightful - like a Hallmark movie! We’ve been a couple times and we stayed at Abilene’s B&B both times. However, they were booked the first night of this trip so we stayed here 1 night since it APPEARED to have good reviews and the pictures APPEARED good or we would not have stayed. The photographer VERY strategically took photos. The furniture is old and outdated. There were too many odd tables in our room, it was too full. The tv was too small and the remote didn’t work. We found a way to get the power on manually, but the management had the sound turned so low you couldn’t hear it. There was a small old coffee pot but NO COFFEE to put in it! There was *NO SOAP* (or shampoo, location etc)!!! There was only ONE very small bath towel for 2 adults!!! There were ugly stains in the toilet and bathtub that could have easily been bleached or caulked if someone cared to make it look better. I don’t normally leave bad reviews because I too am a small business owner and want to promote small business - but I honestly felt tricked and wanted my money back and to leave. I didn’t sleep well because they used a plug in wall heater that didn’t even feel safe. They told us all HVAC temperatures were handled by them and they said to call them if we were too cold (it was December)… We love Abilene and will be back - but we will NEVER stay here again. The bed was comfortable. It’s a shame because this has the potential to be such a darling place!

Not perfect but OK for a night

We got a call from the motel at about 3:30pm asking us when we would arrive. When we arrived the office door was locked and I had to ring the bell. The exterior of the motel was neatly kept and looked freshly painted. Our room was freshly painted. When we tried to use the tv the remote wouldn't work and when I picked up the phone to call the desk, the phone was dead. When the manager came to the room he said that people have been stealing the batteries from the remote. The carpet was old and needed vacuuming. The mattress was firm and comfortable but the sheets did not fit and came loose from the corners in the night. The bathroom needed updating and the toilet bowl was not clean. Although it was not perfect it was ok for our one night stay.

This hotel is over-priced by $20. 1950'S style. Luke-warm water, couldn't turn off TV after having trouble turning it on. Grounds unkept. Could be a nice place if a little work was put into it. No breakfast, no-one in office, had to ring bell in middle of day. Manager was responsive to requests. Staff not cheerful, very grouchy. Bed was comfortable.

This motel is fine if you are a hunter who does not care about clean or decent. The rust in the shower tub was so bad I would not take a shower. There was rust in the sink and a black teeshirt was left on a table. This making me wonder if the room had been cleaned. No outlets for devices or CPAP machine unless you moved the bed. The TV did not work.The ice machine did not work. No ability to turn on heat or air conditioning as it is controlled in the office. Outside weeds in the sidewalk gave the motel an unkept look.The only good thing was we only stayed overnight.

1950’s Motor Lodge in Ike’s Town.

We were here for my birthday roadtrip. I love this little, sweet town but the choices of places to stay is sparse. The Diamond takes you back to that small town 1950’s motor lodge you see in movies. Unfortunately it’s in need of upkeep. The tub was very gross, we chose not to shower. The bed like the room was clean but so lumpy and uncomfortable. There are not a lot of plug in choices when both partners want to charge multiple items and one need to plug in their Cpap machine. Lighting upgrade would also be good. But overall if you don’t want to drive 20 miles down I-70, you want to stay the night in town this will absolutely do. Thanks & safe travels!

Let’s start with check in. First, check in was at 3 pm, I arrived 5 mins early to find the office locked up. I rung the night time bell to be greated by a man who could pass for homeless, in his PJ’s. Then I got a different room from which I booked. After that, we check out the room. The sheets were clean, but the comforter was not. It looked as if a mechanic might have changed his oil in the parking lot and used the comforter to wipe his hands off. Now, let’s take a look at that bathroom. The shower head was broken, and pointed straight to the ground. I’m not a tall man, but man…it’s was an uncomfortable shower. Overall, I’d find some where else to stay, maybe even sleep in your car.

Certainly no diamonds here!

DO NOT stay at this property. The room was not clean (there were visible black fingerprints on the linens) and there was no toilet paper provided. The front desk staff were not available nor helpful when I attempted to get a refund. I had to sleep in my jacket and on top of a towel to protect myself. The property was run down, cold, and unkempt.

Loved the motel! So much better than big chain hotels. Very clean, matress was so comfortable and location was in a nice neighborhood instead of by the interstate noise. Owner showed us to our room and checked to make sure all was well. Would definately stay here again.

The room door lock didn’t work. It seems to me it was the only door in the complex with a key lock instead of an electronics card. It didn’t work. The owner promised to fix it but never did. He also promised to watch the door using the security camera. Anytime I tried to contact him, he did not respond and nobody was in the office for the last 34 hours I was there.

Still very clean as before, we have stayed here before. Nothing fancy or updated but had willing overlooked that because of low cost and ease of booking, checking in, friendly staff
No more-The gentleman checking in was rude to others before us and treated us poorly as well. The room had no place for hanging clothes! Manager commented that this was only room that way, couldn’t change because booked full. Although there were never more than 2 other cars in lot during our 3 night stay.
He finally found a clothes rack and brought in. The was stuck on COLD, no room controls so we put towels over vents to help slow air. Just disappointing all around

Just because it has fresh paint does not mean it is updated. The bed in room 17 was spring and hard. The carpet was dirty. The bathroom was old, tub rusted, and sink rusted. And you cannot control the temperature. The best thing was the front desk being kind and helpful. In the room there was a microwave, refrigerator, desk, and TV. You get what you pay for.

My husband and I love this motel. It is so quiet and quaint. It's a little off the interstate but well worth the short drive. There is a convenience store across the street for snacks and drinks. Owner is friendly and welcoming. This is our go to spot whenever we are traveling through Abilene.

This is such a sweet Motel! It is a throw-back to the 1950's style hotel. The manager is super nice and the property is kept up and is clean around the grounds. The bathtub was probably the original, so that was different and the toilet was super small, but overall, I felt safe and comfortable and would stay again.

Not a bad place to stay on a budget, but it needs some serious updates and a DEEP clean. The front desk person was very nice, but I checked in late & had to wait in the freezing cold for someone to unlock the door which was a little obnoxious. The place needs some updates, but overall, it wasn’t too bad. No bugs & the bed was warm & comfy. I’d stay again, but I’d bring a huge container of Clorox wipes and my own blanket if I were you. I’d also ask for a door with a better lock.

Family owned property in a mostly quiet neighborhood. (I did hear one train go by in the distance.) Owner took over place just before pandemic and has been updating the place--new furniture, paint, etc. Somethings are still in progress--he's waiting for covid delayed deliveries, but nothing that affected my comfort or convenience. Fridge, microwave, Coffee maker, free wifi and of course TV...DirectTV, otherwise a no frills place. Bed was comfortable, towels felt good. It definitely felt safer to leave my loaded car parked out front than some other places I stayed. Just wish Tea was offered with the coffee choices, as I don't drink coffee. (Only one of four different hotel/motels I stayed in on my trip included tea bags along with the coffee offerings. Sigh!) I probably could have asked if any tea was avaliable, since he was very responsive to my other requests, but decided not to... The next morning I checked out and drove across the street to fuel up my car at a Phillips 99 station, paying the least amount per gallon -- $2.89 -- I found on entire my 1600 mile -plus trip. Even though it isn't right off the main highway, the short drive to reach the hotel is not a problem. Recommend this place for a secure, comfortable stay.

Room 17 was clean and decent. Microwave, fridge, 1 c coffeemaker, clock, hair dryer. And the King-sized bed was very comfortable. I would give the room & motel a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
It seems like a fairly old motel. It's in a quiet part of town (except when a local hot-rodder slowly drives by). There were already several older vehicles here when I checked in early; 3:15. There doesn't seem to be a thermostat to heat and cool the room; it's apparently controlled from the office. This room is relatively small but big enough for one person. The bathroom is also small and has older sink & tub fixtures. When you turn on the sink faucet it makes a lot of noise. The walls are thin as I could hear people talking it up outside at one point, and in an adjoining room at another point. The TV was unplugged when I got here and that appears to be the way you turn it off and on, as the off button on the remote doesn't seem to work. It is cheaper to stay here though, and it's convenient to be able to park right at your door.

The motel has clean rooms and was very spacious. We rented the 2 bedroom suite. Bathroom was large. They have done some updates with pain and furniture, but flooring could use one as well. But it was clean. Walked around bare footed and did not turn my feet colors. I have had that happen in MUCH newer hotels. Howie (pronounced Havie is AWESOME). Overall a great stay. Will be back if we go to Abilene again.

Ordinarily we would stay in a chain hotel, but traveling cross country for the holidays, making good time was important. Our host, Havi is the new owner. He was so welcoming and has great plans to update. Our room was clean, quiet and cozy. If we travel through Abilene again, we will go back.

The owner was new and had only had the property for a week. The owner was so nice and very friendly. The property is older and there are some minor repairs that are needed but this owner inherited those issues and so it’s not a comment on his ownership. Besides how great the owner was my other favorite part was all of the bedding smelled like fresh clean laundry. Even the comforter which NEVER happens at a motel in my experience. We will be back in the area early next year and we will definitely stay here.
