We had a lovely stay at this beautiful, historic inn. Our room was in the units across the street by the river — spacious, comfortable, and featuring a king bed. The setting was peaceful and picturesque, with the river and many charming nearby towns, and it’s only a short drive to Montreal.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. We speak some French, but travelers with no French may find communication a bit challenging since English is limited. Breakfast was good but somewhat overpriced for what was offered.

We would recommend adding a TV in the living room as well as in the bedroom. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.

The front desk staff were friendly. The price was reasonable compare to any other hotel in the area. The bad, the bed was very firm and uncomfortable. The mattress was sunken in and worn in the middle. Slept for 3 hours because of it. The shower was very small. Its an enclosed shower like you would have in a RV camper. They need a removable shoeer head sprayer with the attached hose.
You have to park along the side of the road in front of the motel to unload your luggage then drive back to the parking lot across and down the road. Dangerous and inconvenient.
Place was very clean and didn't smell like cigarette or pot smoke. That was a big plus!

Our concerns are twofold. We were only told there was no restaurant service until it was too late. Our room was to include a breakfast but for the above reason it was non-existent. Secondly after checking in the staff seemed to be nonexistent. On check out we tried to return our keys but the door to reception was locked - and it was after 9am !

La chambre est très propre et spacieuse et c’est très tranquille.

Les directions pour se rendre à la chambre ne sont pas claires, nous avons cherché longtemps

Il manque quelques détails dans la chambre et aucun service à la chambre pour un 4 étoiles c’est décevant.

Les deux spas extérieur sont vraiment pas propre et celui à l’intérieur est très chaud

Pas de clef pour les casiers pour sécuriser nos biens personnels

Nous ne reviendrons pas

I enjoyed my stay at Auberge Handfield. It was quite with friendly staff and on-site dining. The room was very clean and comfortable. There was plenty of parking and I had a great view of the river.

They didn't clean our room and nobody onsite to talk to. Might have been out of season but were not informed about it anywhere. Facilities like restaurant, spa and pool were closed. None of this was mentioned upon booking or check-in .

We were disappointed the cuisine was medium but definatly not 5 star and overpriced for what it was.It was my wifes 60th birthday and we went there partly for the sauna and whirlpool. On the second day we were all set to enjoy these facilitys just to be told that they were out of order. Something was broken in the whilpool which meant that we couldn't use it nor the sauna.which we found strange we could have still used the sauna.Then after we were about to check out they informed us we could have a free breakfast. Too little too late.I would also point out that on arrival at the hotel . I asked if we coold have a room overlooking the Richelieu river. They said it was possible but would be another $40 ,a night evan though the hotel was practicaly empty. So clearly there is an element of greed here. If you pay top dollar for a weekend get away.Yoi have a right to expect top quality. The service was lacking and the food in the restaurant was overpriced.and mediocre at best.

We decided to check out a rural accommodation and found this property to be just perfect. Although it’s an older property, the place was kept immaculately clean and made it feel like we’re back in time. It was an awesome Experience, imagine being in an exclusive hotel 85 years ago. The owners kept the building from when it was started, but the beddings and the room was very clean and so comfortable our room has a patio with an , overlooking view of the river and the boats parked in their docks and the river was so calming. The restaurant was decent, food was great❤️ it was a perfect getaway from the city.
A small business making it in 85 years, says a lot about dedication and high hospitality standard. Waiter/cook and front desk staff were friendly.Expedia's VIP drinks were greatly appreciated🫶

Suite exceptionnelle !

C’est un endroit fabuleux où nous nous faisons un devoir de nous y arrêter au moins une fois par année ! La suite #54 est splendide avec une vue extraordinaire sur la rivière Richelieu et la marina. Ses voisines ont d’ailleurs une aussi belle vue, j’en conviens, mais la suite est exceptionnelle à tous les niveaux. Fin septembre, le rapport qualité/prix est incroyable, puisque c’est le début de la basse saison, et les levers du soleil sur la rivière dans la brume sont majestueux. Bref, c’est à expérimenter une fois dans votre vie !

The AC system could not be used because of the stench coming out of it. Et le Wifi est pratiquement inutilisable dans la chambre 59. Les 3 téléphone que nous avions dans la chambre perdaient la connection une bare sans arrêt. Et les cooks du restaurant sur la rivière ne maîtrisent pas la cuisson de viande. Medium saignant servis très bien cuit et remplacé par une bavette saignante.Pas fort. Bon service du waiter.

This was a lovely property in a quiet area outside of Montreal. We didn't get to use any amenities other than our room because we brought our anxious rescue dog who can't be left alone (which also meant we had to book a room with two smaller beds instead of the one king bed we'd wanted), but the room itself was spacious, clean, well-appointed, and had a lovely view of and walk-out to the river. Every interaction with staff was super pleasant and everyone was helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel beside the marina.

We really enjoyed the water view of the room. The property was very close to the marina and had a patio restaurant which was still open. The restaurant was a bit over priced with mediocre food though, probably won't go back to the restaurant but will stay at the hotel again!

amazing view and staff. it was our 2nd time and we just love the place. The only thing I noticed this time, I had the impression that they've just started after a longtime pendemy issu, they didn't check several things: the shower in our room didn't work, there was no wifi and the souper in the terrasse came so late and wasn't a big deal.

Beautiful view, relaxing environment

The room was very clean and comfortable. The balcony overlooking the river was a wonderful view and a great place to enjoy a morning coffee (there’s a keurig in the room).
We were going to a wedding in the next town over and would have preferred not to have to drive home afterwards, but as it turns out there are no taxis or Uber in the area. That’s no fault of the hotel, of course, just a heads up for anyone going to the area for a social function.

Spent one night at the hotel. Had a room with a nice view of the river (we paid for the upgrade). The room was small. The bathroom is tiny. Shower was good. Sheets on the bed were not so good. Very stiff and scratchy. Towels were nice though. Buffet breakfast was delicious

Nice place with a lot of potential but...

I went to this hotel expecting top tier amenities and it was just ok. Missing items like a refrigerator, bathrobe and even an ice bucket were missing from the room. The hotel is a also a bit noisy as it is located right off a main road. It's unfortunate because it is a beautiful place and I can only imaging the beauty of it in the summer.

The hotel is located in a beautiful part of Quebec, on the side of a river. Quiet and relaxing, and definitely comfortable. Unfortunately, you should plan to either spend 3-times the market price for average food. Meals should be planned ahead.

We had a company function on the property, the room was dated, functional with air and a flat screen tv.
Food served was mostly very good, although the bbq meat was not tender at all. Loved the home made potato chips. It had WiFi, can't recall how it was, I think it was fine.

We drove into Canada from the US and had booked this hotel on Hotels.com. We had traveled from Ohio up the east coast and this was the best hotel we stayed at. It is so charming and the staff was very friendly. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. The only complaint we had was that we didn't have more time to spend here!! Would definitely stay here again!!

Presque personne à l’auberge et on ne nous a pas proposé une meilleure chambre (avec vu sur l’eau).
Nous avions des massages de 10:00 à 11:30, pour faciliter le tout, nous avons demandé de faire le checkout à 12:00, et ça n’a pas été accepté. Encore une fois, comme il n’y avait pas beaucoup de monde à l’auberge, j’aurais apprécié plus de flexibilité.

J’ai passé un séjour magnifique!
Même si malheureusement j’avais des voisins dans la chambre à côté qui n’ont pas arrêté de faire du bruit!
Mais l’établissement s’est excusé pour ça et ont m’a remboursé la totalité de ma nuitée à l’auberge.
À part cet incident, tout était incroyable. Le personnel, la chambre , la nourriture…..
à refaire ça c’est sûr!
