Stunning Views, Very Comfortable

A great friendly welcome we stayed here as we had visited Irazú volcano and Turrialba volcano as well as Guayabo national monument. Making a trip from one to the next…. Do not try to drive to Turrialba if you don’t have 4x4, local people told me the road, which I drove almost to the end, was FATAL… anyway that’s just a tip if that’s your plan. The hotel, lodge was fantastic. Our room spacious, comfortable and all we needed for an overnight stay, and womdeviews of the mountains around and a view of Turrialba Volcano behind us. Evening dinner was tasty and plentifully enough and enjoyed by all. We made use of the bar before dinner and played cards in the lounge area in the lodge. Travelling around a country there’s never enough time spent in one place, this place I wished we had spent a couple more days in. Thank you ❤️

Great place for a remote accommodation by Turrialb

the location is remote. the grounds are well-maintained and full of flowers.
The weather did not cooperate with us so there was no view of the volcano.
We had dinner at the Lodge because we arrived late and did not want to go explore other options and the food was great.
A great option to stay close to Turrialba. I would recommend it.

Great property, you can tell it's very well ran. Staff where extremely friendly and personable and the food was great. The rooms were remarkably clean. They serve a nice dinner that although is not very fancy was very good for a very reasonable price. They have a bar right in the lobby and the drinks are reasonably priced. The breakfast the next morning was great. We were only there for one night so we didn't really get a chance to explore much of the trails around. It's right off the main road and easy to find even at night with gps.

We can visit the river, the walking trails, have a hike in the sorroundings full of nature.
The place has a beautiful 360 view. There's many birds around.
It's really close from some other exciting places like the volcano, indigenous monument and some restaurants like Haras.

Wonderful Facility in the Guayabo Area

Wonderful host, beautiful room, excellent view of the valley below except for the clouds/rain. 4x4 pretty much needed to access. Fine dinner, saved us from leaving the property at night. Very much a lodge, in the sense of trails and viewpoints, as well as fine rooms. Visited the Guayabo National Park, but quickest waze road from there to here was mostly gravel.

Excellent location for the Turrialba volcano, though the 300m from the main road to the lodge is for high-clearance vehicles only. Our room had some quirks but overall the place has a certain magic to itself so everything was forgiven immediately, including a very poor mattress on one of the beds :-) The only real inconvenience was a very sketchy WiFi. We had a dinner menu offered by the owners , it was OK but nothing to write home about and quite pricey for the result. Would stay again sans the food.

The grounds and gardens are beautiful and a wonderful place for bird watching; the building is an exceptional eclectic combination of orientalizing, modern and local wood working; it's a rare treat in Costa Rica where architecture isn't a strong suit.
Our room was a huge disappointment since either they or Expedia lost our reservation.

Excellent choice with a flaw

Very nice property in beautiful garden setting with many birds visiting. Excellent, plentiful breakfast included in price, and excellent dinners available as well at moderate prices. Well appointed, clean room with balcony overlooking garden.Good service with one exception. The manager quoted us prices for two tours, including transportation, but evidently due to lack of communication, the guide and front desk tried, on two occasions, to charge extra for transportation. Fortunately we had saved the e-mails.Guide and driver did provide top notch service.. Property is hard to access without own transportation due to infrequent bus service.

Great, expansive view of surrounding countryside, along with the weather (always springtime and temperate) made it just stunning.
The food was really delicious and bountiful, the staff very friendly and helpful--they gave us a choice of rooms, and found us a coffee tour that same evening for the following morning. Excellent.

The views are amazing, the staff was super friendly, the gardens were absolutely gorgeous and the trails to the waterfall were great too. Our room had a beautiful view of the valley. We booked Cesar to go with us for the day and he took us up to the volcanoes. He was an excellent tour guide and a wealth of knowledge!We even saw one of them a erupt ash!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Hotel is at very top of mountain, gorgeous but a good 20 minutes from downtown. Property is aw inspiring, gardens are dreamy, the only thing I'd have to say is the particular room we had had limited outlets, no ac (not a huge discomfort since it's at the too of a mountain), and a weak toilet system that was hard to flush. The beds we're really hard too, but I'd stay again because the resort was really so beautiful and we'll kept.

Stayed here on our way to the Caribbean side. Incredible mountain views, chef prepared an excellent dinner for us. We enjoyed walking around the garden & marvel at the flora and fauna. The free breakfast was impressive — homemade bread, pineapple jam, guava juice, eggs, ham, etc. Such a tranquil place and we had a very good night’s sleep. We wish we would have stayed longer and done some hiking around the area.

Appeals to nature lovers and particularly Europeans. We were with four year old twins who could visit with cows and the sheep. Rosanne. And her daughter Rosario were most helpful in planning activities.

A beautiful but dated lodge. Although there are new rooms being added the main lodge and rooms are showing their wear. Roberto and his wife are pleasure to talk to and looked after all our needs. With the views of the volcano and the town Turrialba it's a great location in central Costa Rica.

Nice Stay at Guayabo Lodge

It was a bit of a drive from San Jose but the lodge exceeded our expectations. Reasonable rates, well maintained grounds, and helpful staff made the journey worth it. We used this property for a launching point for a two day rafting trip on the Pacuare River. The lodge has wonderful views of the valley and the volcano. The owners arranged for transportation to SJO and the local area. Would recommend as a place to get away from the urban setting of San Jose.

Wonderful oasis in the Cloud Forest

4 of us spent two nights at Guayabo Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The hotel facilities, the grounds and landscaping are all beautiful. We saw several species of birds sitting on the deck enjoying our breakfast, including toucans, blue tanagers, kiskadees and several hummingbirds. We hired Ceasar, one of the staff, for a guided bird trip and it was incredible. We started at Guayabo with breakfast and birdwatching at 5:00 am, went to several spots and finished at dusk. We say over 100 species of birds, the highlights being a quetzal and a sunbittern. He also took us to an incredible local restaurant for lunch that you won't find in any guide book.

Beautiful Lodge in Rural Area Volcano Views

Guayabo Lodge is a beautiful, spacious lodge very near Costar Rica's active volcano (currently active with smoke and ash, not lava).
We were only able to stay one night and it was very rainly, so we could not take advantage of what looked like lovely outdoor sitting and viewing areas.
The interior has several sitting areas with cozy seating. In one spot there was a warm fire going with a grouping of chairs and couch by it.
The location is remote. Up a narrow winding bumpy road. We were fine with this as we went in the daytime and had a 4 wheel drive vehicle. When we left it took about 1 1/2 hours to get to San Jose.
We did not see any place else in the area to eat. Breakfast buffet was included. For dinner they ask that you pre-order from their daily menu, and let them know what time you want dinner. We enjoyed out meal and they do also have a bar.
Our room was large and well furnished. Plenty the shower was hot and powerful. There is no heat/cooling in the rooms. As it was so rainy the room was damp. And once it got dark with no window screens we had to close the window, so no ventilation.

They get extra points for waiting up for us long after we were scheduled to arrive. The room was very comfortable. Where else are you going to get a magnificent view while taking a shower? We'd go back any time.

Classic lodge and priceless hospitality.

Arrived later than expected due to a 2 hour highway closure and detour and the staff held the restaurant open late to serve us. The food was excellent and Cesar even cut some Aloe from their garden for my sons sunburn. Classic historic lodge with antique furniture and art in the halls. Homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and a guide to Turrialba Volcano in the morning. Would have stayed longer but for the fact that we had a reservation at the next destination. Will be back.

Bad entrance to the hotel at night with no lights

Was hard to get to there and lite arrive was a bad alternative. At night there was many noices of people like cleaning the stalls and other rooms... don't like that

Nice views early in the morning

The short road to get to the lodge was very rough. 4 wheel drive SUV recommended to come and go without damaging the bottom of your car. Hotel reception staff was a little chilly. Would have appreciated some advice on restaurants or \"must-sees\" near by.
