Staff was so rude in the check in. There is no lift and no warning beforehand. There is no parking available to carry suitcases easily. If you can find space there is one 5 mins walk distance and very expensive (€22 per day). Staff will say there is free parking after 7pm but you need to be very lucky to be able to find spaces.
Sofa bed was horrible bed ever. It’s squeaky and I inclined down significantly. And pillows were like an inflated balloon, quite uncomfortable to sleep. There also is no control of heating. It’s cold at night and they didn’t turn on fully. Especially if you have a baby, think twice.

Cosy little hotel in central Caen

Mathieu and family made us feel very welcome in this lovely little hotel. The rooms are small and simple, but tastefully designed and very comfortable. It's a small hotel, so don't expect a huge buffet breakfast - just good bread, cheese, homemade yogurt and the local speciality teurgoule. The location is perfect, within walking distance of the castle and abbeys, and there are lots of buses and trams (get the Twisto app}.

Room was nicely decorated and very clean. But it was very small. Also no lift a four storey building so if you on top floor like us a lot of stairs to climb. Breakfast was very poor and could be improved. No eggs or yoghurt. No fresh milk only long life milk. Car parking at €22 per day is a bit stiff. Admittedly hotel doesn't own car park. But i think hotel should try and make alternative arrangements for clients. The two brothers who run it are very nice and helpful.

The location was very good , shops and restaurants nearby . Parking was 22 euro a day about a block away .

There is No Air conditioning in this Hotel ! Making it very uncomfortable in the humidity and heat . Also many steps and no elevator to get to the rooms .

A couple of days exploring the area, Caen made a good base. This is a comfortable b&b (breakfast is extra) parking in place de la république is easy and 3 mins walk. No lift which made it a bit of a hassle with our luggage and no one there to check us in but info was sent via email.

Excellent visit ! Thank you for being such great hosts. The coffee/tea station in the common area was simply wonderful and location was perfect. The only challenge was the pull out sofa bed with an uncomfortable mattress as well as a pointy metal bar sticking out at the bottom of the bed which could have caused injury (we had to cover it up by wrapping towels over it) but overall excellent hotel that has everything we needed. Merci !

Excellent hotel, in the middle of the city Centre. Walking distance to shops, restaurants, banks, and local attractions. Owner operator hotel, that was very attentive and thoughtful.
Considerations before booking: No lift/elevator for people with limited mobility. Minimum of two flights of stairs until reception desk. Total of four flights of stairs to the top floor. We didn’t have an issue with the stairs.
Tips:
We used Uber to World War II museum. There are
limited amount of Ubers so check the queue on Uber app. Taxis are also available but more costly.

Lite continental breakfast available for purchase no hot food except for coffee, tea, and hot coco. There are many other offerings walking distance, from the hotel such as, bakeries/ pastry shops.

D-Day Beaches: A better option to visit the D-Day beaches and landmarks is to stay in Caen and drive into these areas. We did not rent a car, and decided to take a Uber for $30-42 to the location and taxi back to Caen (because of limited Ubers by the beaches).
The drivers were super helpful, and some are like tour guides, such a bonus and worth the trip!
There are hotels closer, Bayeux, BUT the a significant decrease in quality and comfort. We stayed in Bayeux and will not make the same mistake on a future trips - which had high marks but unfortunately the Bayeux “hotel” was disappointing. Stay in La Fontaine Hotel. Bayeux itself is a beautiful town to visit for half a day.

La Fontaine Caen Centre (Mathieu and Zoe) sent us an email after our stay and offered a refund if we would not write any reviews about our experience with them and the La Fontaine Hotel. If this is common practice, then it would help explain how they have received so many good reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was not so great. We had to cancel our first night stay with them because a rail strike prevented us from arriving on schedule. We notified the hotel the day before our reservation by text, email, and phone that we had to cancel our room for one night due to the strike. We offered to pay any service fee but asked for a refund even if only partial. Mathieu told us he rented our room when we cancelled our reservation but could not issue a refund because it was not booked though him and it was past the cancellation period. So he actually received double payment for our room. The hotel itself is rated at 2 stars, which in some ways seems generous. It is very basic with small, dormitory type rooms and no AC (they do have small fans upon request). No lift - we had more that 70 steps to our room. We did not accept their “bribe” (which indicates he could have refunded our money) and paid in full for 2 nights but only stayed one night. Very disappointing experience at La Fontaine Caen Centre.

This is a budget hotel at 4 star prices, web site advertised free parking but we found out only after 7 PM, owner thought it was amusing when I enquired about the advertised free parking. If you want to see sights of Caen in the daytime you have to keep returning to put money in the parking meter. Average breakfast, good coffee, no eggs, croissants were under cooked. Room was stifling hot and the the street noise was annoyin.

This was a great location: an easy walk to the older part of town. The host was so inviting and had great recommendations for dinners. Note that you do need to pay for parking at at Indigo (and there is a lot of construction around the parking lot when we were there), but we never had any issues finding a spot. The room and bathroom were both very clean and made for a wonderful place to rest at the end of the day walking around. Very quiet even when sleeping with the window open.

The hotel is located in the centre of CAEN behind Galleries Lafayette. The owner, Mathieu, was very welcoming on arrival. The room we had was on the top floor, compact, without being too small, and in excellent condition. Extra pillows and towels were provided on request. We left the window to the balcony open at night to keep the room ventilated, and found there was a bit of noise from the street, which lighter sleepers might find problematic. We would definitely stay here again.

The manager was very nice and accommodating. We were only there for the night and there was nothing really wrong with the room. Very stylish, but not very practical for doing anything other than sleeping. Again, it was nice, however it was impossible to shower without getting the floor of the bathroom wet and there are no towel holders. Actually, I spotted a thing on the very top of the shower glass that I had thought was part of the support for the stall, but maybe that could have been used? I'm really nitpicking, location was outstanding, central to everything. Room was clean and stylish and the bed was comfortable. All good.

Matthieu welcomed us on arrival and couldn't be more helpful, he checked we were parked safely and then let us use his garage to store our bikes off the car bike rack for safety.
The room was huge with a great super king bed and a king size for my two boys to share, sheets and and beds were incredibly comfortable. The room and bathroom were spotless and the shower was fantastic
Would highly recomend this hotel, we only ahd one night as on Ferry next day but it was perfectly placed for exploring Caen if for a longer trip.
I travel a lot for work and this is still one of the better hotels I ahve stayed in.

Fantastic hotel. Location is perfect right in the town centre. Rooms were spotless and modern. Showers were brilliant after a day riding. The owner even let us park our bikes in a secure garage. Didn’t stay for breakfast so can’t comment but I would expect it would have been great. Wouldn’t hesitate to stop again on our travels :)

Stayed two nights to visit palace Versailles. Location perfect. Only 15 minute walk to palace. Room clean and comfortable. Had breakfast at hotel (12€/person) to save time. Scrambled eggs, sausage, cold cuts, coffee, orange juice, assortment of pastries and cereal. Within 1t minutes walking from most restaurants. 500 ft from train station. Highly recommend.

This hotel is fantastic for the price. Sure the rooms are small and there is no elevator, but that's Europe! The room was immaculate, comfortable, and basically in brand new condition. Plus the staff was lovely. The only downside to the stay was the city itself -- if you need a home base for the WWII beaches or the Cider Route, we'd recommend staying in Bayeux for more charm. But that is hardly the hotel's fault!

This is a great hotel for a stopover. Facilities and room seem brand new with some really nice rose gold decor. The room does look quite basic but these touches add a little character.
