Buyer beware…I would give this zero stars if I could. I booked this while on a thirteen hour road trip. No where did I see that this hotel CLOSED at 11pm. I arrived at midnight after thirteen hours of driving to find the door locked and no one answering the emergency number. Wasted $150. I had to go pay for another hotel. Thankfully there was one.

First we found our room door was wide open upon check-in. When we told the front desk she came and checked it out and told us she forgot it open. Upon further inspection i noticed the bathroom counter had not been wiped properly (soap stains from previous occupants) . The tv stand and night stands also were not wiped as there was a ring from a drink on the stand and a light covering of dust on all surfaces. The soap tray in the bathroom had soap crust on from previous tenants. The beds were ok other then some stains on the blankets. We will not stay there again

Walking into the lobby you could tell immediately it was very old and had never been updated. I was only there for 1 night so just needed somewhere to lay my head but I would have not wanted to stay for longer. The staff were very nice. I would not stay there again.

The clerk would not allow my visitors to come to my room. She told them she had to call me ( I looked but did not find a phone in my room). She walked them to my room. I have never experienced this before.
The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable.
The bathroom door could not be locked because there was no silver plate on the door. The toilet is so low, it’s ridiculous. The toilet is the size for children in elementary school.
There is no place to safely park our vehicle, the option they had for me was to park in Timmy’s parking lot next door.
I will not return to this particular Sandman.

The Front Desk was very curt and unknowledgeable. Thank Goodness for the housekeeping staff. The room really needed a deep clean. Mold in bathroom I left behind my phone charger. When we contacted them they had us in the wrong room number? They told us it was not there. Please be in mind there are only stairs no accessibility. Oh well I guess.

My room was filthy. Floors had not been vacuumed for so long I had to keep my shoes on. Bathroom had not been cleaned and had no toilet paper. The front desk closes at a certain hour so I had to go to another guest and get toilet paper. If that wasn’t bad enough at 6 am the power went out in my room…also no one around to fix this issue

Every towel was stained. The doors don’t close quietly, they require some force to shut, so it sounds like slamming doors all night. Staff were knocking on my door at 8am asking if I was still here, then another staff member knocked on the door at 10am to ask if I dropped off my room key at the front desk. I informed that I did not and she showed me the key with my room number in her hand. Upon checkout I asked a lit the 8am knock and she said “it must have been housekeeping” and when I asked where the key to my room came from, she told me that they have extras in the event that a guest leaves for key in the room at check out, then the staff can open the door. She then told me that the key she brought to my room, was left on the front desk where anyone can grab it if they walked by.

Good location for walking into town (10 minute walk) or to the river. Very friendly and excellent staff. Lobby was clean and tidy, room overall was pretty clean, comfy beds, the carpet desperately needs either a good clean or replacing and there was a large stain on the seat of the chair in the room. Overall good stay and the price was right.

the room was very old and tired, basic surface cleaning had been done but not to a very good standard, no screen in window, curtains falling off, air conditioning and bathroom fan sounded like an airport, no ice machine working in facility on one of the hottest days of the season, had to park behind Tim Hortons, semi trucks idling on road outside hotel all night - our Sandman visits in other parts of Western Canada always included some kind of breakfast - not here, and to top it off no cleaning after first day stay just some towels and amenities drop off outside door in plastic bag - not worth $361.00 for 2 nights

Not a great start to our family vacation.

I stayed here once before and hoped it was a one off however I was wrong. The room was a pet friendly room however once I opened the door I got hit with a humid wet carpet stank. The carpet was very dirty and gross to walk on. The AC was not working properly so I had to open the window for the entire night to cool down the room.

I am amazed this property is allowed to operate!! It is in zero compliance with any regulations for disabled patrons!!! After managing to get to our room went looking for ice. No machines in hotel went to front desk only ice machine broken. Sandman should remove there name from this establishment!!! Will never stay again.

STAY AWAY! This place should be condemned. Don’t waste your money, go somewhere else.

Mouldy, musty smell in the room that has now soaked into everything we brought into the room.

Looked like someone kicked in the door at one point, was poorly fixed, a piece of toilet paper replaced the site glass in the door.

Paint missing, holes in the walls that someone tried to patch with who knows what. Instant noodles maybe?

AC window unit looked like it was cut in the wall with a butter knife and was extremely loud.

No screen on the window so couldn’t have that open. Although you could crawl out onto the roof of the building entrance which is cool.

The building is poorly maintained and cleaned. Only decent thing about the stay was the guy working at the front desk, he made check in easy.

Sandman should be ashamed charging people money for this barn stall they call a hotel.

This location was not the best, the room and bed were comfortable, but we were put in the room just of the reception area. It was not to bad except for the extractor fan just outside the window, and the fact that next to the hotel was a drive thru Tim Hortons, which was quite noisy, but the noise of the air conditioning unit drowned out the majority.

Sandman in Smithers is a good place to stay, but like many smaller properties, the front desk is not staffed 24hrs per day, and is showing signs of wear. When I first used the toilet, it took at least 10 minutes to fill. I eventually checked the tank and the flapper valve was not properly connected. Unfortunately, I was not able to fix it, so using the toilet required a bit of finagling if I wanted the tank to fill as it should. How could housekeeping not notice this and report it?

However, the Sandman is conveniently located, is right next to a Tim Horton’s, and has very comfortable beds. I will definitely stay there again.

Overall the room and property were fine. Our room was a little outdated, but clean. They seemed a little understaffed. I put up the door hanger for maid service, which was ignored. However, they promptly brought us more towels when I called.
When we checked out, I was told there was no one working the front desk that morning and that I should just leave the keys in the drop box.

We left for a half hour and then waited another twenty minutes in the lobby and were told they just have one cleaner(not my problem). There was no ramp or wheel chair accessible access to this facility at all. People who have mobility issues like my friend had no way to access the lobby with their luggage then by climbing many stairs. The front desk stafff was excellent in changing our room to one on the ground floor and he fixed our tv so that we could watch the hockey game. He filled up the kettle so we could have tea - very helpful.
