My wife and I spent 12 wonderful days at the Vilamendhoo Island Resort in Maldives. Our original booking was an Adjoining Beach Villa. Meanwhile, as a generous birthday present our accommodation was upgraded to the top-notch overwater villa with jacuzzi. The location and amenities of the unit (#329) were fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of our stay!
The house reef was amazing! Turtles, stingrays, spotted eagle rays, eels, all kind of beautiful corals and fish were surrounding us each time we snorkeled.
All the stuff of the resort were extremely accommodating and very helpful.
We always enjoyed delicious food and excellent service in Ahima restaurant. Awsom - our waiter, was incredibly pleasant and attentive.
We would highly recommend the Vilamendhoo resort
and look forward coming back in the future!

Beautiful island with nice sandy beach, and nice house reef just 30-50 meters away from beach villa, can go snorkeling anytime according to guest desire, dont need a boat ride.

Sea plane schedule to leave the island is difficult to arrange according to guest request, either too early or too close to guest flight time/speed boat ride from Male to somewhere else.

I loved our stay at Vilamendhoo and would definitely return. The price, island location and access to reef and marine life excursions was great. The food was very good for a buffet as well. Also had a massage with Ayu at the spa and it was life changing. The only thing I would say was lacking a bit was the cleaning service in our water villa and the night life was pretty non-existent. The bar was open 24/7 which was nice but we were really the only ones out past about 11 pm (group of friends). Overall, great experience though!

Fabulous hotel and a wonderful holiday. Our second visit (unusual for us), having stayed previously in 2019.

Vilamendhoo is an excellent resort that I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who wants a relaxed Maldives holiday. We didn't wear shoes for our entire 12 night stay.

Food choice and quality is excellent, one of the main reasons we re-booked this year. The buffet is brilliant and the Asian Wok restaurant, plus the teppanyaki table are superb too. Special \"shout out\" to Paul who made eggs for my wife & niece every day. The was charming and made them both smile each morning.

The rooms are very good, clean and comfortable. Beds are good although we did need to ask for a topper to make it a bit softer.

All the staff we interacted with were brilliant and really can't do enough to help and make your stay extra special. I was a bit cranky when we arrived after our long journey & they couldn't do enough to help solve a couple of minor irritations (which were my issue, rather than anything to do with the resort).

Daniel, the Resort Manager / Assistant Manager also was brilliant is helping me with an error that I had made on our reservation - Daniel if you do read this, thank you so much. Sorting this for us, which was NOT Vilamendhoo's issue in any way, totally transformed our holiday and made it even more special. Thank you.

Dive Centre is excellent and the house reef very very good too. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing holiday. The resort was fantastic, the staff could not of been more helpful in every aspect. The room was very comfortable and the bed linen was of a very good quality, the pillows were so good to sleep on. Food was of a very good quality and also very good choices. The only thing that would of been nice was a little snack (crisp/peanut) with our pre dinner drink but then it would of only added on another kilo or two!!
I think we would definitely like to return for another holiday at some time in the not too distant future.

Its a bit problem if any one reach male after 4pm, as no seaplane available on that time. And next morning the seaplane for vilamendhoo was too early and after arrive there everyone need to wait for the room. I waited 4 hours as my room check in time from 2pm. I think it would be helpful for the guest if you can arrange early check-in, who need to stay over night in male. Otherwise all of your service just perfect !! :)

Comfortable stay in the Maldives.

We had an excellent stay. It is a much bigger island than we have previously visited but was every bit as good. Service throughout is very good. Lots of variety good and for buffet style presently excellently. There’s one live cooling station for each meal. Rooms are good, bed is hard but we asked for a mattress topper and got one immediately and this helped a bit. House reef for snorkelling is fab and diving was well organised. Disappointed we didn’t see quite as much ‘big stuff’ as before but apparently we were between seasons making sightings more random. We didn’t do the whale shark or manta snorkelling trips (lucky to have seen elsewhere before) and didn’t fancy the extra time on boats but were told by others that went that they were brilliant. I’d recommend the resort to others.

We are totally in love with this place and all its staff. We never wanted to leave—jokingly (kind of) asked if we could get jobs there so we wouldn't have to go.
We wanted an over-water villa, but they were booked. Initially sad, but we got beach villa (#130) and loved it! Perfect snorkeling right out front. Thousands of fish every color, shape, size, patterns. Baby black-tip sharks, turtles. Every day different. Went on whale shark tour—they said 50 percent chance of seeing one. We got to swim with 3! It was surreal, beautiful, so special. We’ll never forget this place. Great buffets, water is perfect. Want to come back with kids and grandkids!

The house reef is like swimming in an aquarium! Unfortunately there is widespread coral bleaching as there is elsewhere in the Maldives since the El Nino in 2016 but marine life is flourishing . The only downside was the food was mediocre. The fool at the buffet was sometimes cold. Oh and the bathroom is outdoors so if you go at night you could get bitten badly by mosquitoes as I did.

The snorkeling was awesome!

Loved our stay at this resort. We had the all inclusive overwater villa with Jacuzzi.

General feedback:

- We stayed in Male the night before and didn't get our early morning (8.15am) seaplane transfer timing until 8.00pm. We were exhausted and wanted to sleep so it was frustrating.

- On our first morning we ate breakfast in the family restaurant and was abruptly told by a waiter that we can only eat in the adults only restaurant. We misunderstood and it was our misunderstanding but felt the waiter was telling us off instead of politely correcting us.

- The house spirits are all locally produced spirits. I wasn't expecting top shelf brands but also wasn't expecting the cheap local brands. I only drink vodka and it did not taste good. I ended up switching to cocktails to mask the taste and I must say the cocktails are delicious!

Now for the amazing stuff this resort has to offer:

- The staff. All of them (except waiter from first day). Our housekeeper, guest relations staff, bar staff, waiters, resort photographers were all so lovely.

- The Duniye Spa. If you only do one thing. Get the his and hers couple massage. It was so romantice and so beautiful. The best spa experience I have ever had. The ladies that did our massage were so good.

- The photoshoot. We had so much fun doing it and had such a laugh.

- The rooms, the infinity pool, the restaurants, food etc. All perfect.

Highly recommend this resort to everyone.

I don’t usually do reviews but have to say this resort is nothing short of fantastic.
Yes there are other resorts that will offer you an ultra premium experience at multiples of the price.
So why is it soooo good?
One of the best house reefs in the Maldives no doubt about it. Straight off the beach and importantly the reef is close to the surface so you are fully immersed in the sea life. We saw turtles baby sharks moral eels and a dazzling array of reef fish in crystal clear water no more than 30 meters from the beach....stunning.
Food is of an excellent standard and so is the service if you have been to maturitius it’s a similar excellent standard.
I am not a diver but spoke to many guests who had a supreme experience.
The different shades of aqua have to be seen to be believed.
The only possible negative is the beach is relatively narrow but tbh we are beach lovers and managed to get a daily spot right outside our beach villa that was stunning.
In short fantastic!

The standout factor for this resort is the house reef. Whilst obviously heavily hit in recent times by El Nino and other factors, the sea life is phenomenal, there is an incredible density and diversity of fish. Most of the visible coral is dead, the reef is very far from pristine, but there are some impressive corals remaining and new growth which is encouraging.

The resort itself is pretty big and very commercial with the standard European style evening entertainment and Christmas songs whilst eating your buffet dinner! So if you're after a chilled, authentic, remote Maldives experience I wouldn't recommend this resort, but if you like a big resort with plenty of activities and entertainment then it may be for you!

The service needs improvement in my view, for example, it could take up to 20 minutes to even get served at the pool bar and another 20 minutes for your drink to arrive, even though it was quiet. Nothing on request seems to happen very promptly.

But... they have their own strict processes in place which they expect you to adhere to, such as leaving your room an hour before your sea plane journey and they pretty much lose their minds if you don't comply with these illogical processes, it felt a bit like being at school!

In contrast to my previous Maldives stay, things are designed on this island for the ease of the staff, and they struggle to adapt and be flexible to create an amazing customer experience.

Food is ok, but not worth writing home about!

Good Hotel, with great buffet food. Didbn't bother with the a la carte because the buffet was so good.

Fantastic snorkeling on the house reef just off the beach,so very accessible, even for people who are not confident snorkelers. Huge variety of fish, including stingrays, turtle and small reef sharks. Most if the coral is dead however which is a bit disappointing, although there are signs the reef is recovering well in some places.

The most amazing clear water and white sandy beaches, backed by lush green forest. I saw new variations of azure that I didn't think existed.

We walked 20 metres from our villa across the sand into snorkelling only surpassed by Galapagos, seeing thousands of fish, an enormous sting ray, turtle, manta ray, and dozens of tiny sharks.

The service was quick and friendly, the buffet options changed daily. Just a perfect place and we were very sad to come home.

My husband and I with our two young daughters stayed here for a week in July. It was better than I could have imagined. We travel extensively and this really was a highlight for us. The island is amazing! The beach bungalow was perfect. Beds comfortable, had everything we needed. We did all inclusive which I highly recommend for a worry free stay. House reef was fabulous - tons of fish. And, surprisingly, the buffet was excellent at every meal. Staff was great! Probably my favorite resort ever! We will be going back ASAP!

This is my second visit to Vilamendhoo and would strongly recommend as a value for money resort. Both visits we have had a water bungalow and it has been delightful watching the sunsets and the marine life. Diving is excellent ... still haven't seen a whale shark so it looks like I will be going for a third visit.

Great getaway to paradise

We went snorkeling everyday on the reef that surrounds the island. Every day we saw something new. On the excursions we were very lucky and swum with turtles, manta rays & a whale shark.
The food is plentiful although the spice in the local dishes has been reduced to cater for the masses. In the evenings there are some scheduled events and the bar is open until late. Make sure you have adequate holiday insurance as you will be required to sign a waiver.

Spent three amazing nights at Vilamendhoo Island. My wife and I are marine biologist and one of the reasons we choose this resort was to see whale sharks. Not only we saw two whale sharks, we also saw manta ray, eagle ray and lots of sharks.
I wouldn't hesitate to go back and spend another few qualitydays at this resort!

We researched for a long time on which resorts to stay at in the Maldives, We finally chose Vilamendhoo as one of them because of the reviews, pricing and location. We were extremely satisfied with our stay! We enjoyed the 20-25 min seaplane ride ($360 pp/rt) over the beautiful blue water to get there from the airport. The snorkeling was really good thanks to the house reef. The accommodations, service and activities were all good. I highly recommend Vilamendho Island Resort and Spa.

Had a generally good time in this resort. Good food. Staff are courteous and accommodating. Room is clean and nice. The seaplane ride is an experience in itself! It's amazing seeing the plane take off and land on water.

Water is nice, especially those near the water cottages. It's good to just walk down the stairs to your own beach from your unit. And the water is so clear!

Even if there are others in the resort, didn't feel there's too many as there's enough space for everyone. It's just unfortunate that the group beside our unit is a bit loud, but that was bearable. I liked the hammock in front of our room. Could have stayed there all day!

Too bad we didn't know about an all-inclusive option that included drinks. We would have gotten that deal.

As we were a big group, they accommodated our request for a snorkeling trip even if it wasn't scheduled, and i had the best snorkeling trip ever - whale sharks, turles and manta rays in one day, with a bonus visit to a local island - the highlight of our trip!

Overall a good experience! Would definitely recommend to friends and family!

For the price, the best choice, hands down.

This is our third time in the Maldives. We decided on this resort for proximity to the whale shark sightings (in South Ari Atoll), and the reasonable prices. While this is not a \"5-star\" resort, solely due to dated rooms/facilities/boats, the customer service is a top-notch, and the diving center (\"Euro-Divers\") is second to none in their quality and the entire experience. You can pay 2-3 times as much to stay in a \"luxury\" accommodation, of course. We stayed 10 nights, and had the vacation of our life.

We stayed one week and the only bad thing to say about Vilamendhoo - one week is not enough!
The island is quite big, you always feel like you are in the middle of the jungle with all the birds loud sounds, bats flying around, lizards roaming etc
Although reef is half dead we were able to see all kind of fishes. Constantly had a feeling like swimming in the middle of aquarium.
Food was great too! We liked that every evening there was a different theme - Maldivian, Italian, Mexican, Indian etc
I would say Vilamendhoo is a family hotel as many families are coming here with kids so don’t expect to have quiet time. Unless you will stay in Water Villas or Jacuzzi Beach Villas where kids are not allowed. We stayed with our daughter who liked the game room and the pool.
The only thing which can be improved is a temperature of water in the pool (we felt the water was way too warm) and the quality of Internet.

First time to the Maldives and as a single traveller. Absolutely loved the resort. Everybody who worked there was fantastic. From the very first pick up point on the mainland to the end of the trip. Great place to relax and that is what I got. They have plenty of activities on offer and I hope to avail them the next time I go. Yes, I will go again. I chose this resort in part due to the feedback from other travellers and it was spot on. I went for the all-inclusive but honestly, I could have gone full board instead as I did not drink all that much. I did try both of the other restaurants on the island to take a break from the buffet and they were both very good.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon and no special effort was made by the hotel even though we had informed them. This was disappointing as other hotel went out of their way to make us feel special.

The facilities were poor and extra charges apply for certain drinks and meals which i would expect from an All Inclusive package.

No entertainment in the evening, mainly a DJ playing music which wasn’t great.

It rained a couple of days we were there and no activities were put on by the hotel to keep guests entertained in the day.

Maldives is indeed a paradise, add to that is our very nice experience to this hotel resort.It was an unforgettable experience, we enjoyed the hotel which is very clean, all staffs are very good in taking care of their guest, we also enjoyed all the food,trying to eat all kinds of food in the buffet. It was my first experience staying in an island for 4 days; there are a lot of activities to enjoy like the sunset cruise. We enjoyed seeing a lot of fish even though we do not know how to snorkel. The place and scenery is very picturesque. Thinking of going back in the near future. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Vilamendhoo is truly an amazing destination. This is now my second visit, and I am already planning to return.
The staff are so warm and friendly, from the moment you are welcomed onto the island until you sadly have to return home. Foot ware is definitely not required ANYWHERE.
Rooms are very well equipped, tea/coffee facilities, in-room safe and a very comfortable bed.
You do get an open air bathroom/toilet. It is private, but you may get the occasional lizard and several ants wandering about. Also, you may hear next door - also using the facilities. It not a problem, just be aware.
I chose a beach bungalow which to me is a perfect option, you can just walk 5 metres and your on the beach, another 5 metres and your paddling in the sea. The main reason I come here is for the Home Reef, there is so much variety of marine life here, and the water is nice and warm all year round. Make sure to use the water pots outside your bungalow to wash your feet before entering.
Food is delicious and plentiful at all meal times at the buffet restaurants, and evenings change with themed nights, so you get to eat foods from all over the world each week. There is always the option to endulge a little more in the evening at one of the other restaurants.
Wi-fi is available throughout the island except within the restaurant and is free.
Regards options, it may be worth considering the Fully Inclusive option rather than the Full Board. This would include draft beers and the House spirits, as well

The best time of my life

Where to start,from airport you come to stand 59 and from there holiday start,you don t need vory about anything,they check you,drvive you to climate room where you wait seaplane,there you get drinks,fresh towel,25minutes drive to resort,then with boat 5 minutes to island. Staff all time was perfect,from check in to check out. Island is so beautiful,We stay in OWV,guys took our lagguage, room was perfect,mini bar filed daily,clining two times of day,view from our villa was stuning,sunsed,everything, reef is so beautiful,many fishes,small sharks, we even see turtels,food every day diferend,who says that he is hingry he is not teling the true,everyone can find something for himself,we take all inclusive and if you want live as a king you must take this package. Sunset bar guys are great,we did not finish our coctails and they are coming ask for new one,if you hungry you have plenty of food to chose from bar for free. We get kayak,olso go try diving, sunset punch cruise,all for free. Then we take all day trip to see whale shark,manta and turtles,unfortuantly we see only turtles, but at the end we get 60% discount. Nice,but I would like to see them,now I will must go back again,what I will surly do,as this is perfect vacation for me. I did not say to much about island,only I can say is perfect, When you eat you see how many people is on island,but thru day you feel like all island is yours and you are alone. Better maldivian resorts out there

Although they clAim to be children friendly, they Block off areas where they are not allowed. They also charge for everything. I've been to other maldivian resorts where there is complimentary water/drinks and snorkel gear. The snorkeling center is not friendly (when they are even there). Food was not great.

We picked this resort for snorkeling and it did not disappoint. Excellent house reef that you can snorkel just from the shore. Great service. We stayed in an over water villa. If you splurge for it, for sure worth the extra cost. My only complaint is wifi connection and speed which was pretty poor.

Great all around

Beach villa was great once moved to the adult pool side. The family side of the beach and the side east of the overwater bungalows was super windy and not as attractive with concrete jetties. Great staff, awesome food, lovely villa and beautiful infinity pool. Also spa couples massage was fabulous and well worth it. nice activities in the evening if you are interested and plenty of excursions To stay occupied. Great sunset bar. A great value for the price. Also plenty of wines and alcohol.

Stayed closer to the adult infinity pool and the beach there is much nicer and less windy on the sunset side. So much enjoyed the stay. Beach villa was a great location, sunset bar and pool was fabulous for adults only, the food was phenomenal, staff was great. Spa was excellent top notch. Such a lovely time. Really enjoyed it and would return. Great value. Alcohol and wine were excellent. Sunset side is the nicer side of island as not as windy and nicer beach.

Travelled as a single and loved it. Did the all inclusive package and it was well worth it. Everything was clean and well kept. Amazing snorkelling and sunsets. Loved my beach front villa. Staff had just the right amount of presence and were always courteous and helpful.

Very long trip from USA west coast but worth it!! The resort is a great deal AIP plus a must and recommend deluxe beach villa.You can snorkel from beach or relax in luxury by pool with drink its what you choose it to be with plenty of activities, its all right there. The perfect secluded island & casual enough that you will never wear shoes the entire time your there. Staff is amazing you will want for nothing if they can help it and the price was right,hope we are lucky enough to visit again! Beach villa deluxe and AIP plan a must & worth the value. enjoy the beauty and watch fruit bats play sea life and picture perfect great weather its all you can wish for &fun for couples and family with kids

relaxing stay

We had a relaxing stay at Vilamendhoo Resort for almost a week. House reef is close to the beach, only a few metres away. If you're not confident at swimming, the lagoon is enough to keep you happy...until you graduate to the outside reef through easy accessible points. Room is cleaned several times a day and is very clean and comfortable. During my husband's birthday, they celebrated with us by presenting him with a birthday cake during dinner on his birthday. It's a personal touch and a thoughtful gesture.

Best honeymoon destination.

We went there to enjoy our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience. The staffs are very friendly amd cooperative. Everthing is well organised. We were in the Jacuzzi water villas and it is best villa to stay especially for honeymoon. The rooms are well maintained and proper room servicing makes it look better. We didn't come across any hassles over there. We are completely satisfied with the trip. Highly recommended!!!

Amazing hotel from a to z

Real island experience you are looking for in Maldives. Hotel has its own reef surrounding the island and we did numerous snorkeling during our stay. Wonderful and caring staff, very clean hotel and rooms. everything situated very conveniently around the resort. Totally would go back again! Water villas are the best!!!

Love this paradise!!

We didn't expect the quality of room or service that we got. It was unbelievable! It looks exactly like the pictures if not better
The staff is amazing and the food is very good. The only thing we were a little disappointed with, was he all inclusive plan. It is not all inclusive, but pretty basic. Otherwise, it was an unbelievable experience that will never forget.

Sharks,bats, fish, sand and sun oh my!!!

My husband and I just returned from 8 days at Vilamendhoo resort. We had a fabulous time and have nothing but excellent things to say about the staff, the grounds, the dive shop, the food, and the spa.

The resort: clean, well maintained and just breathtaking views from every point.

Room: we stayed in a beach villa with jacuzzi and it was great. The open air washrooms are awesome especially at night for viewing the millions of stars!! Room 217

Dive shop: Ethan was a great teacher and made getting our open water certification so fun and safe. The manta ray dive was unforgettable!!

Food: we went with the all included package which I highly recommend. Tons of variety and fresh fruit and salad bar every day. Theme nights are great as well. Thank you to Jameel for his excellent service. Good luck \"F&B\" with the football tournament!!

House reef: we spent hours snorkelling the house reef and saw thousands of fish, eagle rays, reef sharks, lobsters, a turtle, eels, and
sting rays. Water is very warm at about 28 degrees. Wear a rash guard for sun protection! Keep your feet and find off the coral!

The spa: I had two treatments done and the girls at the spa were very professional. The spa rooms and relaxation area are so relaxing! Loved the oil hair treatment. Much needed after 7 days of sea salt and sun!

To all the staff and the management team, we would like to thank you for your excellent service and hospitality. Keep up the great work!!
