The staff seemed overwhelmed, dirty dishware sat out for hours on tables. The bathroom was mouldy in many locations, and there were nail clippings on the floor in both the bathroom and the room.

The hotel is perfect for a beachy, chilled holiday if that’s what you enjoy. The small town has some shops etc which is good and Chania is only a 30 minute drive away along with Souda which are beautiful towns.
Especially the Chania markets! A must go to if you love a bargain!

The hotel could be somewhat more clear on what is included etc. The hotel is amazing so don’t let that put you off but we were told the tourist charge was €10 euro per room, per night, which is correct but we were also charged extra and we’re unsure really what that was for.
Also we have been twice to this hotel, the first time when booking we had the option available to go all inclusive plus but the second time that option wasn’t available until we arrived at the hotel and it was quite steep compared to the first time we visited the hotel and with not much difference to the basic all inclusive package. After all a gin and tonic is a gin and tonic be that from the local gin or branded big name gin.

Overall though, lovely place to stay and the staff are amazing! So helpful and super polite! Will absolutely be back again!

We had a really relaxing time at the Kalyves beach hotel. What wasn’t clear to us at booking was the “all inclusive” and “all inclusive welcome gift” option. We went for the latter which gave us the “all inclusive plus” package at the hotel and was well worth the small extra cost, giving us unlimited cocktails, room upgrade and discount on the spa. Excellent value for money and still easily got enough for us (27c) at the end of September. The buffet food selection was great for us too as we could pick and choose what we wanted. We loved the stay and the entertainment in the night arranged by Momo was excellent too. Everyone was so friendly and keen to help we felt so looked after and pampered!
Fully recommended!

Pobyt w hotelu oceniam bardzo dobrze. Na bardzo duży plus zasługuje otoczeniu hotelu, bliskość pięknej plaży. Zawieszka można było znaleźć wolne leżaki zarówna na plaży jak i przy basenie. Wieczory w cudownej atmosferze. Koncerty na żywo z piękna muzyka były cudowne. Minus za jedzenie- bardzo monotonne. Brakowało jedzenia pod dzieci. Niektóre potrawy były słabej jakości. Za to sałatki, kurczak sosy itp były znakomite. Dla dorosłych (niezbyty wymagających) kuchnia jest ok. Gdyby miała ponownie wybierać- zdecydowanie wybrałabym Kalyves Beach Hotel!

Staff was helpful and kind, enjoyed the evening traditional Cretan dance performance which was wonderful. Beach & pools were clean. Opted for the inclusive package, food and drinks with a family was great option with a family of 4. Balancing view of the sea was wonderful to wake up to in the morning. Only downfall on our whole time there was our air conditioning unit in our room was not as cool as we are used too.
Overall would recommend this property.

Nice hotel for a 5 night stay.
Most of the staff were great, Penelope (manager) was fab!!
Our room was comfortable though incredibly hot and the A/C was not powerful enough to cool it, the staff kindly provided a plug in fan but still so hot night times were difficult, but I think it was because we were the end of a corridor and therefore had the sun on the exterior wall all day?
Food options were good, generally a chicken, pork and fish option at each meal, pretty generic AI food but always something tasty available.
Definitely worth upgrading to the higher level all inclusive as drinks options MUCH better with this. However there is only one bar and often only one member of bar staff on so were made to feel a bit guilty on occasion ordering cocktails. They definitely need more staff of an evening and/or another bar space.
Location is great, right on the beach, with free sunbeds. Kalyves is a lovely little village to explore with lots of nearby beach bars and restaurants if you want a change of scenery, we hired a car one day to visit Kournas Lake (25 mins drive) using the lovely car hire company in the hotel.
Nice gym, not hugely stocked, but suitable for a decent workout. There is also yoga/stretching each morning with the entertainment staff for something more gentle.

Seems to be a staffing issue at this hotel, the girls on reception were very polite with the exception of one lady called Ria who seemed determined to make things difficult rather than being helpful, we think a customer service coarse may be due!! Also the bar staff were very overworked and at peak times couldn’t cope with the volume of orders. The cleaning was very hit and miss maybe again due to lack of staff? The room was very small and suitcases had to put onto the balcony.

After booking a room with a sofa bed and soft bed topper as well as informing the hotel that this was due to traveling with someone who was disabled, we were only given a double room with the hardest mattress and told we could not have a soft bed topper untill the next day. However this was sorted then next day and we were able to move to the room we had booked. Food and beer were what you would expect from a budget hotel, with some poor dishes and some good ones, choice was also quite repetitive. Anyone who enjoys all inclusive, will be ok

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming! Particularly the ladies on reception and the guys on the bar. Catering staff were fantastic too, nothing was ever too much hassle.

The hotel was a great place for couples or lone travellers, very quiet and tucked away so perfect to relax if you’re just seeking to relax for a few days in the sun.

The all inclusive was perfect, plenty of food and drink on offer and definitely would advise going for the gold band. Not much more expensive but you have free choice of everything including branded drinks etc.

All in all a perfect little chilled, relaxed holiday and we will absolutely be back!

Room was ok, everything you need in there, in our shower the curtain was about 6 inches off the floor so the room got pretty wet but apart from that it was all good.

Brilliant Birthday Break

A great stay for my partner's birthday who received a cake and champagne on the day. We also got upgraded to a sea view room which was great.
Food options were varied and plentiful though sometimes difficult to put a 'proper meal' together. Snacks (ice cream, sandwiches, cake etc) were available outside of restaurant hours. We found there to be more snack and drink options available compared with other all-inclusive hotels. Off-menu cocktails cost 7e and Metaxa 3.20e.
The very comfortable sunbeds around the small pool and on the beach were limited - although signs say not to reserve beds people did and it was the only way to secure a spot although people did abuse this, laying their towels down and then only visiting for an hour.
There are about 5 spaces for 'onsite parking', otherwise there's a large piece of open dirt parking 2-3minute walk away. It's possible to drop luggage off at the front/side of the hotel and staff will direct you to the parking.
Rooms have great soundproofing but I found the mattress to be on the hard side and there were no coffee sachets in the room - only 1 coffee pod for the espresso machine which isn't replenished. Not too big a deal when you're on the all-inclusive plan!
Overall, a relaxing stay, perfect if you want to do nothing other than eat, sleep, and swim.

Good value, better for families than couples

Great little hotel that could benefit from a renovation. Right on the beach, but right in the village as well. Close to the highway to Chania which is about a 15 minute drive, airport is about 30 minutes away. It’s much more of a family hotel than a couples resort. Choice of alcohol at the pool bar is very poor, food is about average, front desk staff very personable. Even though we had an all inclusive package we ate out at local restaurants for dinner and enjoyed it. Kids seemed to be having a lot of fun which is great but also means you might want to pick a quieter spot if you want to relax.

On arrival to the hotel our room had a electrical fault and we were transferred to Kiani Beach hotel and given upgrade VIP treatment. Next day we returned to kalyves hotel and the service was exceptional. The hotel had good facilities and the food choice was great. Overall we both had a great time and would return again in the future. Thanks

Recently returned from a 7 night AI break. We had a lovely, relaxing holiday - 2 adults & our 5 yr old. The hotel & rooms are kept immaculate. I am quite fussy with bathrooms & beds, & I expect cleanliness & comfort, which was achieved. The bathroom was small, but it’s a shower room, spotlessly clean & served us fine - didn’t affect the holiday & I do wonder if people just complain for the sake of it.

Food, it is a typical buffet AI, but the quality was fresh & there’s always plenty to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the traditional Cretan section. There is always beautiful fresh fruit, a selection of salads, yoghurts, various meat dishes & a decent selection of vegetarian. My daughter loved the pancake bar & fresh fruit for breakfast every day - as well as the ice creams on tap!

The standard AI alcohol menu suited our needs, a week of tequila sunrises, Cretan wine & G&T’s was quite enjoyable! Ok they’re not the premium brands but absolutely fine & you can always buy the premium if you want to. For €5 they make perfect Mojitos! If you want premium, upgrade.

I suppose parts of the hotel are a little dated, but always clean & tidy. The welcome was warm, the staff friendly & the service good.

The beach is lovely, sand & soft shale, my daughter loved it. There are waves, but we spent hours running in & out jumping over them. The river was also lovely & clear to play in.

I’d definitely return, the area is good too with lovely tavernas, shops, pharmacy etc.

Nice place...good for a quiet family holiday.

Excellent family holiday. Very friendly staff just to mention a few Penelope from reception, Stephania and Michalis from pool bar, and Dominic the entertainer do an amazing job.
Penelope looked after us very well even after we checked out and had 7hrs to kill...cant ask for anymore..very good service happy holiday.
The rooms are okay , bathroom could do with some work. Food is varied and good.enjoyed it. Beach is on door step, very clean and nice. Parents would be advised to supervise young kids all the time as waves are pretty strong. Location is out of the way and few shops and restaurants around..but nice and quiet.

This was our first trip to Crete and our first holiday abroad for a few years. It was amazing, the hotel is lovely and exceeds its rating. The staff were so kind and helpful. It was clean and the facilities everything we needed to keep us and our 8 year old son happy. The hotel isn’t too big and ideally located so you can walk immediately into the village with local shops and bars.
The food choice was excellent and always fresh.
The scenery was amazing too.
We would love to return in a few years.

Good hotel with friendly helpful staff in a great location by the beach.
Kalyves was quiet in May which is what we wanted. It has a number of good and very reasonable taverna style bars and restaurants.
Hotel is very clean and well maintained.
All inclusive arrangement for food and drinks was basic.
Bedroom has clean, recently refurbished and the bed comfortable.
Shower/bathroom was far too small and cramped.

Good place to stay for a few days

On arrival we were told (10 of us) that we were only booked in for bed and breakfast, despite booking all inc. Several phone calls and conversations with the manager later the situation was not resolved and I had to pay again for the upgrade to all inclusive.
I queried the error on my confirmation email days before I left for Crete via a call to your office. Your rep put me on hold then assured me all was fine as she had spoke to the hotel manager and confirmed my AC booking.
The manageress at the hotel said there had been no contact with Expedia whatsoever.
I find this absolutely unsatisfactory and being as you supposedly record all calls maybe you can explain who is not telling the truth here.
I am obviously seeking the reimbursement of the extra I had to pay and would suggest some kind of compensation for the stress and inconvenience caused by this situation.

Great hotel, Beach access, pools and in village

This was a lovely smallish hotel, quite low key and very relaxing. The swimming pools were great, the sandy beaches were beautiful with enough sun loungers and the sea was great for little children.
The food was really tasty and plentiful with variety every day. Children were well catered for too.
Our rooms was clean and comfortable for the 3 of us. The shower room is a little on the small side but fine.
The staff were friendly and there were activities put on by the Animations girl, some for children and others for grown ups. These were easy to participate in if we wanted to and very east to ignore if we didn't. Our daughter loved the activities that she did.
The location is wonderful. Calyces is quite under developed for a beachside village in the Mediterranean. The town itself has some lovely stops and plant of tavernas which we went to a couple of times.
There is so much wildlife to be seen whilst sitting on the riverside terrace eating a meal, ducks, geese, swallows, great flocks of birds in the evenings, kingfishers by the beach as well as the sweet little stray cats.

So many reason don’t want to waste time typing them up. We left at one day and went to a real 4 star hotel. Biggest thing was I was telling the front deck that our AC wasn’t working and he was telling me I was lying. When I kept pressing him he told me he was going to call the police on me. Maintaince came up 30 mins later, it wasn’t working. Don’t book this “4 star” hotel, it’s a 2 star!

We had a great time, nice location by the beach, good food. The staff at the front desk was amazing, Penelope knew anything and every thing, very efficient, also Athina and Stabroula were very helpful and friendly. We got hugs from everybody on the departure date even from the cleaning lady! Made us feel at home. They will organize any activities and transportation needs. Great place to stay!!!!

Just returned from 11 days at Kalyves Beach - all too short!
From the time that we arrived until we left the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble for any of them - thanks Penelope and all the staff
The room was all that we could have wanted - with a superb view over the bay and kept very clean
The food - we were all inclusive - was extremely varied and well-cooked - I was sorry to miss Giorgios's 'cookery class' on Sunday. He and his staff were always around to talk to the guests
It was not his fault if I didn't add on an extra 5kilos. A man with a passion!!! - thanks again!
All of the staff - reception, dining room, bar, entertainment (and even senior management) were so friendly and I'm sure helped with the relationship between guests as well
(It doesn't take much to be civil and friendly with the staff - and they repay that - certainly at Kalyves Beach!!!)
They were very helpful in giving any information requested
We are not 'entertainment people' and as such it could be a little noisy at times (but the others really enjoyed what was put on) - no criticism
Iliaina tried very hard to provide exercise (and some of could have done with it) for both the children and adults 10 out of 10 for trying
She was so pleasant - as indeed were all the staff
Excellent value for what we paid - and well worth a return visit!!

Lovely place by the beach.

It is an nice hotel by the Kalyves beach. The staff are lovely! Natalie would always serve us with a big smile. I enjoyed the morning yoga / gym by Iliaina. She was great and very helpful.
The entertainment provided by the hotel was nice too. We enjoyed the Greek night and the music nights. They have some good Greek musicians playing in the hotel.
It is a a bit further away from the Chania town. During the low seasons the buses are very very infrequent and taxis cost a lot.
The hotel helped us to arrange tours by IO Tours which which I highly recommend. However, it is cheaper if you book directly via the IO tours. The pick up and drop off service provided by the tour company was excellent.

Friendly staff, lovely clean rooms, bathroom on the small size, but does its job. The food is well cooked and presented, you will not go hungry. The beach is super, and child friendly. The road running through the village is busy, with a good bus service to chania (30mins @ 2.5 euros each way). Really happy to recommend this lovely hotel.

Nice hotel for the price

Decent standard of hotel. The staff are very efficient in dealing with requests but were a bit quiet with customers, meaning they didn't initiate much conversation. Perhaps they are used to more Scandinavians, who prefer this approach.
The rooms and facilities were very clean and the beach areas are very nice. However, the sunbeds on the beach are getting a bit old and could do with replacements. The cushioned sunbed mattresses that other beach areas seem to have nowadays would be a welcome addition and would definitely improve the beach experience.
The food was well presented and timely. The hot food variety on the dinner service could do with more variation and definitely more Greek Beef and Lamb dishes.

Very close to beach with free sunbeds and umbrellas.Free parking close by. Food good, good choices. Liked the Cretan options, though the hot food could have been warmer.
Staff very pleasant, especially the Animation team. Entertainment mediocre except greek night and piano player, both excellent.
Pool at times overrun by children/large families, loud and noisy, only option was the beach.

The location was excellent and the restaurants around were wonderful we found the food not very good, so we normally only had lunch there If you like a hugh daycare centre, then this is the place. screaming and crying children day in day out It was awful Could not relax because there was always screaming and crying kids and parents and staff did nothing to stop this When you want quiet time it is almost impossible. We loved the staff except when we asked for a wake up call at 550 am it never came, so thankfully we set our phone alarms and got up, otherwise we would of missed our plane.

NICE HOTEL BY THE BEACH

The hotel itself has an interesting setup. Its two buildings split by a road. A bit awkward but ok. I liked a lot of things and didnt like some things.
The pros: The outside restaurant seating on the little river was very pleasant and scenic. The kids loved feeding the ducks and the fish that would just sit and wait for food.
The staff at the hotel were amazing. Penelope at the front desk always had a smile on her face and was extremely helpful with any questions I had , as well as offered great advice on things to do outside the hotel.
All the food staff was extremely friendly and nice.
Demetri and Chrissa were exceptionally helpful to whatever we needed and made sure we were always satisfied with our meals. It was great meeting them!
The cons: The rooms were a bit small, especially the bathroom.
Food quality was so-so, and a lot of repetitious meals throughout the days.
Our biggest complaint was the buffet hours. It was so inconsistent with \" Greek Time\". We missed so many meals because breakfast would finish so early. I think it was 9:30am . We also missed a few dinners because that also ended so early.
Especially when we got back late from excursions, we would have to rush to go eat dinner. That was annoying.
Other than that the hotel was nice, the beach was nice, and the town is really quaint.

Awful food quality.

The hotel is possibly the quality of a 3*. We were given room 119 a sea view. The shower room was very small with a curtain. However the room itself was okay. It was above one of the three swimming pools and close to the bar, so it was noisy - we asked for a room change prior to unpacking and 3 days later another sea view room in building 2 was available. We had room 252, A very nice larger room with a small but modern shower-room. If you do go to this hotel I suggest you ask for building 2. The hotel is very clean throughout and right on the beach.
The restaurant is inside and outside by a pretty canal. We stayed for a week on an all inclusive basis - big mistake! The wine was rough, the beer not great, spirits really poor quality. Soft drinks nice. You can pay for other spirits. The 'hot' self-service buffet food was very repetitive, nearly always cold or lukewarm at best. Sometimes there were hot plates other times cold. In a week we ate out 4 times and had we had the money it would have been 6 nights.
Most of the staff were polite. Two of the staff stood out for us for their helpfulness. Michalis (Michael) on reception and sometimes the bar, was very professional and most gracious in his dealings with all the clients. Ronja was a temporary waitress that worked hard but always found time to enquire about your day.
The small town of Kalyves ( KAL-E-VES) has several nice Taverna's along the beach - suggest you try: Il Forno it's very good as is Icarus and Kritiko.

Excellent hotel

This is a beautiful hotel right on the beach in a charming village which has all the facilities you could want including several very good restaurants.
Ideally placed to explore the west of the island,
Staff worked tirelessly and could not have been more helpful.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Confortable Hotel with Great Wi-fi connection

Extremely friendly and helpfull reception staff.... The room was tastefully recently renovated, with great sea view...Welcome in the room was fruits,wine, coffe machine and bottles of water.
The hotel is kept in a extraordinary state of cleanness, the room cleaning staff are very kind and full of attentions...
The food is really a let down, change your cook!

Fabulous

First time we have been to Crete and I'm so glad we chose Kalyves and Kalyves Beach hotel. We were very happy with our room and usually after a holiday we say 'can't wait to get in my own bed' ! but not here, the beds were excellent and we slept very well. Only downside to our room was the extremely small bathroom and a material shower curtain! (That needs changing please, hotel manager)
Other than that everything was super, very clean, the maids did a fabulous job each day and worked very hard. And the restaurant and bar staff were lovely too. We will definitely be going again very soon.

Wonderful place, lovely people, fabulous food

We had such a fabulous time of relaxation. The village was full of very friendly people too. Great for couples, a good place to chill out. The staff we fantastic. We found a great friend, Antonis, who made it his personal goal to make up feel welcome and comfortable. The food was totally awesome, great options for breakfast lunch and dinner, we never got tired of the food.

A great holiday.

We had a fabulous time. I cannot fault the staff in anyway. They were marvellous, friendly, helpful and courteous. The room was comfortable clean and all that is required. The food was plentiful the service excellent. We would definitely recommend it.
