This was my third time staying at Hotel Fontana and it is my absolute FAVORITE hotel in Rome. Breakfast is delicious, the beds are comfortable and it is directly in front of the Trevi Fountain, making it the perfect central point in Rome. Every single person that works there is so kind, especially Maria upstairs. We will continue to come back to this hotel every time we stay in Rome! Don't forget to order a Limoncello Spritz from the bar upstairs!

The hotel overall is nice and you have views of the Trevi that are wonderful. I loved being able to sit at my window and look at the Trevi for a while. The AC is pretty good too. However, I can’t overlook the black mold that was growing in the bathroom, it was clear it’s been there for a while (I investigate property insurance claims, including mold) and there was more growing. Breakfast was pretty good too, loved the bread they had. Bar was overpriced. If the mold is fixed I would give 5 stars. Staff were very nice.

The location was excellent, right in from of the Trevi fountain but just know what you are getting. Location was loud, we Heard people all through the night until the morning. Be prepared for the location to be loud 24/7.

The staff was NOT friendly. Asked for change, extra water the the staff blew us off.

The toilet only flushed occasionally. The elevator wasn’t wide enough to fit a child’s wheelchair. The entrance was very hard to get into. The fridge was not very cool. The door got stuck and we always had to bust through to get in. He shower was tiny even for a child. It was so noisy at night.

Very dirty, we didn’t stay. No refund, but no way I’d stay there. The ceiling fan was so loud about to fall out of the ceiling. Check in was a nightmare. Couldn’t get a key for power to the room. Needs A LOT of updating and cleaning.

Excellent hotel directly in front of Trevi Fountain. Rooms were typical small european. An adjustment if you are from the US. Air conditioned, elevator and an Excellent staff. The staff is what puts this hotel above others. From the front desk to the maids, every interaction with staff was Excellent. It's obvious they care about their guests and is reflected in the service I recieved. Would definitely go back.

The hotel is run down and the furnishings are old. Faded curtains, thin mattress. Shower moldy. Very very small room with very little room to keep luggage, lack of floor space. They have no iron or steamer and no coffee or hot water kettle in the rooms. The location is central and good for visiting other areas. However, the Trevi Fountain is so crowded, you have to fight to get in and out of the hotel each time. The breakfast was average (nothing hot), but the breakfast ladies were super friendly. Lots of fruit and fresh juice. The view from our room and the breakfast room was amazing! However, people visit the Trevi at all hours of the night. It was very noisy and hard to sleep. I had to use ear plugs each night for the outside noise. The Trevi guards are whistling all day long for people not to sit down on the ledge and the whistle is annoying after a few minutes in the room.

A lovely hotel with an incredible staff. Just keep in mind that this is a small european hotel. Small shower, twin bed, small elevator. ( I was solo on this trip) All perfectly fine but as a first timer to Italy, it was unexpected. Loved that you open the hotel door and the Trevi Fountain is right there. Expect lots of foot traffic once you step out but then you find yourself in the hustle and bustle of this beautiful location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Francesco at the front desk was very accommodating with help for transportation, directions and suggestions for a walk to some of the nearby sites. Make sure you check out the view from the rooftop breakfast area. It is stunning. Would definitely return!

The classic standard room we were given in no way resembled the photos of the rooms. The bathroom was very small. Maybe 4ft x 4ft. The shower was so small I could not stand without the curtain clinging to me. The room was in need of routine maintenance. The wood floor had past water damage but had not been repaired. The toilet seat was loose and broken. The bed, though comfortable, was against the wall on one side. The air conditioner did work well. The rooftop breakfast did have 2 windows wi one table each overlooking the Trevi Fountain but the food was not worth the 25 Euros. The room was clean and the staff friendly and helpful.

Very old and quaint hotel. Had a perfect view of the Trevi fountain. If you want quiet this is not the place to stay. A lot of people come to the square to see the Trevi fountain. The square is very crowded. The staff of the Trevi fountain blow a whistle a lot and at all hours. The whistle is when someone does something they are not supposed to do.

Don’t get me wrong, this hotel is quaint in a great location for the view, but it is old and although that is charming, it wears a bit thin. The bathroom is so tiny, you wouldn’t want to be a bigger person trying to shower, or use the loo for that matter. And bring earplugs, the street noise is so much more than I was expecting. Aperitivo in the afternoon is an absolute must, I have so many photos of the Trevi fountain now! The staff are also great, helpful and friendly!

You had to turn sideways to get to the lobby. Bath room very very small, for 1 person. The window in our room...you could not sit at you very small table and look out the window, as described in Expedia pictures. At one point had no hotel water. A/C terrible. No room service. Room was horrendously in need of maintenance and had a very small shower just large enough to stand in. The floor planks were loose and you could hear the outside visitors through the windows all night. Expedia called them to ask about me switching accomodations after I tried and they became extremely rude. Checked out immediately. In process to see if they provide a refund for checking out early. KEEP AWAY!! Do NOT stay here.
Old, dirty, rude, dilapidated, inconvenient, NO handicap access, NO ramp, NO bellman, NO courtesy. You have to carry your own bags several hundred feet through the cobblestone streets past the fountain through mobs of tourists before you reach the hotel front door steps. Carry your bags up the front stairs to the front desk (NO lobby). Once checked in carry your own bags up creaky steep stairs or take your life in your hands by taking the tiny make-shift elevator (barely big enough for one person and one bag standing on end) shaking and jerking to your floor.
Our room faced the fountain. We could actually see the fountain if we stood on a chair (but there was no chair). The window is very high up. Tiny, tiny room. No closet. Be prepared to SIDESTEP to get past the bed from the door to the window. Bathroom was antiquated but surprisingly clean.
Young woman at check-in was courteous but the manager was rude, obnoxious and a disgusting jerk. He tried to overcharge by 30 euros just for calling a taxi.
Air conditioner/ heater doesn’t work. Windows don’t open. “Breakfast “ was warm coffee and a table full of exposed rolls and meats and cut fruit and cheeses that are already dried out.
VASTLY, ridiculously overpriced.
If you care nothing about your room or amenities and just want an expensive, dirty rude place to crash that is right next to the Trevi fountain then this is your place.
I will NEVER return

We stayed here in March 2025 and had an amazing experience—friendly staff, early check-in at no extra cost, and a very comfortable room. Because of that, we were excited to return in March 2026.

Unfortunately, our second stay was completely different. After a difficult travel day, my daughter was feeling quite ill when we arrived. I politely asked the front desk if early check-in was possible—even offering to pay a fee—but the gentleman at reception responded very rudely, raising his voice and insisting that check-in before 2pm was absolutely not possible.

We tried to wait quietly in the lobby, but were told to leave and sit in the rooftop restaurant instead. Eventually, we found a hallway bench where my daughter could lie down out of the way while we waited.

When we were finally checked in, we were given Room 207, which was extremely small and not suitable for our needs. I use a walker, and there was barely enough space for both of us and the walker—we had to store it in the bathroom and move it each time we needed to use the facilities.

To make matters worse, I later observed the same staff member being rude to another guest during check-in.

This was a very disappointing experience, especially compared to our previous stay. Because of this, we have already chosen a different hotel for our next visit to Rome. It’s unfortunate, as we truly loved this hotel the first time around.

You can't beat the view!!! The hotel is very charming in that old world hotel way. Expect older decor, tight spaces, well loved charm. That said it is well maintained and very clean, with modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. Despite it being literally on top of the Trevi Fountain the noise level isn't as bad as you would think. The crowds do die down after 11pm, until 8am or so. With the windows and shutters closed it is very quiet at night.
The view you see in the photo is from its private rooftop cafe/bar - worth a visit. The rooms have windows that open onto the fountain. The staff was really wonderful and pleasant. I'll be back!

We stayed at Hotel Fontana in August and had an exceptional experience that exceeded our expectations. The hotel’s location directly overlooking the Trevi Fountain is truly unbeatable. Being able to enjoy the stunning view and watch the activity below from our window allowed us to fully take in the magic of the area without being caught up in the chaos of the crowds.

This hotel location is so special as it is directly in front of Trevi fountain. It is also just a few steps from where taxis or transfer vehicles can park. Shops and restaurants are just steps away. However, the conditions of the room were not the most optimal.. the bathroom had a water leak all time and the air conditioner never worked to warm (it was a cold night). Loved our room because of the view ; right in front of the fountain. The room was fairly simple, but high ceilings and spacious , bed very comfy . Kept clean and tidy every day. The hotel is quirky in a good way, not boring old modern buildings . The staff were all friendly, welcoming and approachable . This is right by the Trevi Fountain, so be prepared for the crowds outside and then a lovely sense of calm as you walk into the hotel. Def recommend it and would go back there to stay.

Honest review: not the best hotel in Rome. The door legit faces the Trevi Fountain- which is cool in theory but holy cow the crowds at all hours of the day and night. Cars don’t drive on this road so you get dropped off a few feet away and have to push and shove your way to the hotel. The street is packed like sardines with people waiting in line to throw coins into the fountain. It’s the absolute worst getting in and out of the hotel, not to mention doing it with luggage on your arrival and departure days.

The staff: I found most of them unfriendly.

The room: I booked the room with the Trevi Fountain view because, again, it seemed cool. What a mistake. Those crowds at all hours? Yeah they are loud and you hear it ALL. Our first night I didn’t sleep at all and what a surprise when there was a marching band at 10:30pm! Not to mention the hourly marriage proposals that come with every cheering and clapping. I bought earplugs the next day and was able to mute the noise about 90% after that but know that there are big loud crowds outside the window from 8am to 5am every day. Yes you read that right.

The room is also tilted and felt dirty. Shower is very small, slippery, and doesn’t have a shelf to put your soap, shampoo, etc.

Other than that, there is a rooftop bar that is open to the public so you have strangers entering with access to the entire hotel- not just the top floor.

Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. Plenty of hotels a block away.

Highlights: convenient location. Honestly, I didn’t hate the room, it was very small, but cute and overall clean. The staff is friendly. The woman at the front desk who speaks English well is very kind. It’s obviously a very old hotel so it still has character and charm and I love that.

Cons: it’s loud. This really isn’t a fault or a complaint on the hotel. I knew it would be from other reviews, but I didn’t anticipate just how loud it can be and nightly until around 1am. It’s not even just the hustle and bustle of the crowd, there’s constantly shouting and cheering and loud music past 9pm. We were exhausted so we didn’t stay out late, maybe we missed something? Then at 3am on Sunday morning was trash pickup in the alley right outside our window and that was rough.
We stayed 2 nights on the 1st floor, room 109. Two twin size beds.

I think it’s great for a night or 2, great location for many reasons besides the Trevi fountain. The room was totally fine. I didn’t mind sleeping in a separate bed from my husband after jet lag haha. If you plan to stay here I would definitely consider bringing earplugs and sleep sounds. And a blanket, the AC actually gets pretty cold.
Also, have euros, 6 euros per night per person city tax upon check out. Free breakfast buffet.
It is a pain bringing suitcases through the crowd and the cobblestone as cars can’t get closer to the hotel, we had some old British guy mouth off at us for bringing suitcases through such a place and I snapped back.

Loved this hotel. The room on the top floor (where the serve breakfast and cocktails) has a stunning view of the Trevi Fountain. Although the hotel was in the middle of the city, it was still fairly quiet. The breakfast was delicious! And we even enjoyed a cocktail and snacks one night--the perfect was to view the fountain and unwind after a busy day sightseeing. The staff was so kind and helpful with arranging travel to and from the airport. The service was amazing. And you're very centrally located to everything you'd want to do in Rome. It was old and not very clean hotel and lot of noise and for everything they want cash . I never go back that hotel .

Nice basic hotel in EXCELLENT location

PLUS SIDE: Excellent location right opposite the Trevi Fountain. Friendly reception staff. Small, basic room, but comfortable with bathroom basics. Rooftop bar/breakfast area overlooking the Trevi Fountain.

DOWNSIDE: the shower was ludicrously small with a shower curtain which did not reach the whole height of the shower, meaning the bathroom flooded every time it was used.

Great location with view of Trevi Fountain

Directly in front of Trevi Fountain, awesome location. Old interiors, breakfast available with terrific view of fountain.Restaurants, cafes and shops everywhere.
If you are staying on the top floor (level3) and it’s raining, prepare yourself for water to be dripping into your room. We had several leaks in the room, no matter we moved the bed, we were getting wet. It’s an old building and requires a lot of maintenance.

The air conditioning didn't work the whole time. We changed rooms on the last night and it wasn't much better but they gave us a fan. The vents in the bathroom were covered in a thick layer of dust. Would not stay here again.
