This hotel was much better than I expected. I was in town for a special event, the funeral of Charles Norman Shay, so I thought occupancy and rates would be very high. The price of the room was so low I thought the property would be kind of old and clapped out, but it’s actually very nice and recently renovated, and I stayed a second night.
I didn’t use the restaurant, but from the menu and the décor it looks like an excellent choice for a high-end dinner. The bar is very cozy, with comfy leather chairs and pictures of celebrities on the walls. The staff was very pleasant too.
You should probably reserve on-site parking if you need it. There is free 20 minute parking on the street outside with an automatic timer.

This historic hotel was a good option for our Normandy beaches trip. The room was not as advertised (much smaller than the photo), but fairly well appointed. The fan provided for air conditioning did not function, and the plugs in the room did not work after the first night. The staff was agreeable, but badly overworked, making them slow to assist because of so many duties. The breakfast buffet was open until 10:00 am, but was not refreshed after 8:30. The historic bar could have been lively, but there was no bartender when we stopped in after dinner at 7:00 pm. Overall, it was a “fair to good” stay.

Charming, Comfortable, and Perfectly Located

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Le Lion d'Or. The location couldn't be better—an easy walk to shops, restaurants, bars, historical sites, and even a grocery store. The hotel itself was quiet, clean, and very comfortable, with a warm atmosphere clearly geared toward an American clientele.

The on-site restaurant was a highlight: elegant setting and truly excellent food. Although there’s no elevator, the staff kindly helped us get our luggage upstairs, which we appreciated. It’s something to keep in mind for those with mobility issues, but it didn’t detract from our experience.

Our only regret? That we didn’t stay longer. Highly recommend this lovely hotel in the heart of Bayeux.

There are many things that are wonderful about the Hotel Le Lion d'Or, but I must first complement the staff. Everyone we met were so warm and friendly. We visited in January and the fire was always burning which was pleasant. The room was spacious with everything needed.
The restaurant was outstanding and we highly recommend it.

Hotel Le Lion d'Or is Amazing! A complete representation of the Normandy area, beautiful.
Main entrance inviting nostalgic and warm. With a very helpful staff.
Our suite beautifully decorated with a cozy soft bed. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The hotel was located in a wonderful spot on the Main Street in Bayeaux near dining and shops. The breakfast was also plentiful.

However, we had issues with very loud guests outside our rooms until midnite and they were smoking. With our windows open, we could hear and smell everything.

The cleaning crew was also not consistent: one day we got no toilet paper, another day we got only one towel, and another day, our trash was not emptied and the can were very small. There was also the biggest spider I have seen in a hotel directly over our bed and also these small flies that buzzed around, up to 5-8 each day.

I absolutely love this property! I brought my parents here for their first visit to Normandie, and the staff took excellent care of us all!

The neighborhood is so quiet and walkable with plentiful restaurant options. Our rooms were huge! And I love the decor! The entire property is super clean and well maintained with a beautiful bar and breakfast room. The breakfast buffet is delicious and absolutely worth the price.

Make sure to reserve a parking spot if you’re going to have a car.

This is a top-notch hotel! I highly recommend it!

Great base for Bayeux and Normandy. Close to town centre and all attractions. Parking a bit tight but secure and convenient. Staff wonderful and service friendly. Breakfasts and dinners all good, although we had dinner in town most evenings. Rooms warm, well equipped and beds very comfortable. Bar worked well and well used with helpful service. Cannot fault it, made the short break a great experience.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Le Lion d'Or. Excellent location for visiting the DDay memorials ,and seeing the sights in Bayeux. Great restaurants and shopping within a short walk. In the evening after our excursions, it was so nice to come back to the hotel where there was a warm fire in the bar and comfortable seating to relax a bit.
The hotel staff were all helpful and friendly. The breakfast served at the hotel was delicious every morning. It included many options and everything was fresh and tasty. The woman who was in the restaurant every morning was kind and made our dining experience wonderful.
Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed on Monday and our schedule prevented us to have dinner in the restaurant, la Table du Lion? The menu looked special and everyone said the food was delicious. Hopefully, we will get to try it on our next trip to Bayeux.

It was my second visit to Bayeaux, and the second stay in the well located and charming Hotel Le Lion d'Or. Onsite parking is a bit of a trick, but do-able. Their restaurant is first class, and a stop in the bar is a must. The rooms are clean and quiet, but may be up a couple of flights of stairs. There is no elevator. Willing staff will help with luggage. The rooms are spotless and roomy and often have charming views of the interior courtyard. Staff is phenomenal.

Perfect gem with the corner suite

Incredible little hotel, perfectly positioned for wherever you want to go in Paris. Had the cutest room on the fifth floor, right on the corner, with our own wraparound patio, giving us the perfect view of the Eiffel Tower and the bustling below. Completely added to an incredible little getaway.

This was a beautiful hotel! Our room was a nice size with a great bathroom, too. It was quiet but also right in the middle of everything. Very walkable to dining and all the sights of Bayeux. Parking had to be found along another street but we found a place that was free! The staff was friendly and helpful. A lovely stay!

The room was large and comfortable, clean, and the staff was very accommodating. The hotel also had a bar and restaurant we didn't use but looked to be very nice.

We stayed here for a few days to attend day tours to Mount St Michel and D-Day tours which worked perfect. Easy walk 2 minute to the parking lot that the vans left from. Aside from that the facility is really nice and clean. Staff and restaurant/bar was a great option if you don’t want to venture out. Only downside is this place like many others do not have air conditioning. There was a nice Dyson fan and we needed the window open to try and cool it down at night in August. I presume the rest of the year is not an issue. The facility is off of the end of one of the main streets where all the restaurants and shops are which is nice because there isn’t much noise or foot traffic when you get here. There is some parking for cars but it’s tight.
