In this guide

Paying for a flight with Bitcoin, USDT or another supported asset does not decide whether the ticket can be cancelled. The fare conditions, what happened to the flight and any applicable passenger rights determine the options. The payment method affects how an eligible refund is handled.
Before requesting anything, decide whether you want to stop travelling, change the dates or respond to an airline disruption. Those are different instructions. Use this checklist for a flight booked through CryptoTraveler; the general crypto cancellation guide explains the wider payment and refund context.
First establish who is cancelling
| Situation | What to check first |
|---|---|
| You no longer want to travel | Voluntary cancellation conditions, any deadline and the proposed charges. |
| You want a different date | Whether a change is permitted, its fee and the fare difference. |
| The airline cancelled or changed the flight | The disruption options and applicable rights before accepting an alternative. |
| You cannot reach the airport in time | The immediate no-show risk and the status of all later segments. |
Do not describe an airline cancellation as your own change of mind. Keep the original itinerary and the airline notification. Our disrupted-flight guide explains how to separate a replacement flight, a refund and compensation.
Read the conditions of the ticket you actually bought
Find the booking confirmation, airline reference and fare conditions. A fare called Flexible can still have restrictions, and two offers for the same departure may have different rules. Check whether the rule applies before departure, after departure or after part of the ticket has been used.
Review the entire journey, not only the first departure. Identify whether your return and connections share a ticket or are separate bookings. Cancelling one item does not automatically deal with another reservation. Read the airline fare-type guide if the fare label is unclear.
Request the exact action through the booking channel
Use the relevant action in your account where it is available, or contact CryptoTraveler support. Provide the CryptoTraveler reference, booking email, affected passenger names, travel dates and exactly which flights you want reviewed. A request to check the cost should be distinguished from permission to complete the cancellation.
If departure is close, make the urgency and the departure time zone clear. Do not assume that a sent message has already cancelled the ticket. If the airline is dealing with an immediate airport disruption, coordinate with its staff as well and retain the instructions you receive.
Ask for an itemised outcome before accepting
Ask what is refundable, which provider penalties or booking-service charges apply, what happens to paid extras and whether the quote expires. A ticket refund, a seat fee and a third-party protection product need not have identical conditions. Check the current booking terms and the proposal for your case.
Mandatory rights can be relevant when the airline cancels or significantly changes covered travel. The US DOT refund guidance and EU passenger-rights guidance explain their respective scope. A provider rule should not be presented as removing an applicable legal entitlement.
Keep cancellation confirmation separate from the payout
After an action is completed, retain confirmation of which passengers and segments were cancelled and what remains valid. Then record the approved refund amount, currency, method and processing reference. Booking cancellation and money reaching its destination are separate events.
CryptoTraveler's published refund information uses the original recorded fiat value as the reference, rather than promising the same number of coins back. Confirm the actual route with support. Read why the coin amount can differ and how to follow the refund stages.
A short checklist before you finish
- Confirm the reason for cancellation and the exact flights and passengers affected.
- Review the fare conditions and whether any statutory disruption rights apply.
- Understand the quote, deductions, expiry and remaining travel before accepting.
- Keep written cancellation confirmation and the agreed refund instructions.
- Check separately booked hotels, transfers and other travel arrangements.
Flight cancellation questions
Does paying with crypto make the ticket non-refundable?
The selected fare and relevant circumstances decide eligibility. A crypto payment does not itself make every fare either refundable or non-refundable.
Can I just cancel with the airline directly?
Tell the airline how the ticket was purchased and coordinate with CryptoTraveler. Some booking actions or money handling need the issuing channel; avoid creating conflicting requests.
Is there always a free 24-hour cancellation period?
No universal promise applies to every carrier, route and booking channel. Read our 24-hour cancellation guide before relying on that assumption.
