A travel booking paid with cryptocurrency has several separate numbers: the booking's recorded fiat value, the quantity of crypto originally sent and any refund later approved. Those numbers should not be treated as interchangeable.
CryptoTraveler's published refund FAQs describe the original fiat value at payment as the reference, not a promise to return the original quantity of cryptocurrency. The eligible amount and actual receiving route still need to be confirmed for your booking.
Begin with the booking's eligible refund
First establish whether the fare or hotel rate can be cancelled and which charges apply. An asset-price change does not itself create a right to cancel a restrictive booking. Equally, a crypto payment does not remove an otherwise applicable travel right.
Review the provider conditions, any relevant disruption rights and the current CryptoTraveler terms. The flight cancellation guide and hotel cancellation checklist explain how to request the correct action.
Keep the reference value and the original coins separate
| Amount | What it means |
|---|---|
| Original recorded fiat value | The purchase value used as the refund reference under the published policy. |
| Original crypto quantity | The asset quantity sent for the purchase; it is not automatically the refund amount. |
| Approved refund | The eligible value after the actual conditions and agreed deductions are applied. |
| Receiving amount | What is issued through the confirmed method, with any applicable conversion and fees explained. |
For a fictional example, suppose a booking's recorded price was €800 and an eligible refund of €640 is confirmed after its actual conditions are assessed. The difference is €160 in that example. Neither figure predicts a real cancellation charge, and €640 is not a promise of a particular Bitcoin or stablecoin quantity.
Ask for the approved value in its stated currency before reviewing a receiving instruction. If a conversion is needed, ask which quote is used, when it applies and which fees are included or separate. Do not calculate your expected payout from a current price chart and assume it is the confirmed proposal.
Confirm the route rather than assuming the original asset
The published FAQs describe possible routes including bank transfer through WISE, PayPal, USDC, vouchers and prepaid account credit. The method available for a specific case is confirmed with support. This list is not a promise that every route, currency or cryptocurrency is offered to everyone.
In particular, paying in BTC or USDT does not by itself establish that a refund will be issued in BTC or USDT. Where a legal refund entitlement applies, the proposal also needs to respect the applicable requirements. Ask about the option you are actually being offered before accepting it.
For an agreed crypto transfer, verify asset and network
A wallet address is only one part of the receiving instruction. Confirm the exact asset, supported network, destination and any required memo or tag. Check whether a receiving wallet or exchange supports that precise deposit route and whether minimums or account restrictions matter.
Do not copy the sender address from the original blockchain transaction and assume it is your receiving address. An exchange withdrawal may have been sent from an address controlled by the exchange rather than a personal deposit address. Our exchange-funded travel guide explains why sender and receiving details need separate checks.
Know which fees belong to which stage
Keep provider penalties, booking-service charges, conversion costs and transfer or receiving fees separately identifiable. Ask whether the quoted amount is before or after the relevant costs. A single unexplained difference is a reason to request an itemised explanation, not to guess at the cause.
Stablecoins do not eliminate every possible difference. A booking recorded in euros and a proposed USDC payment can involve a fiat-currency conversion. Network, platform and receiving-account conditions may also be relevant. Use the actual quote rather than a universal one-token-equals-one-unit assumption.
Track the payment only after it is issued
A cancellation confirmation, an approved amount and an issued transfer are different records. Ask for the appropriate payout or credit reference when the issuing step is complete. The refund timing guide explains what each stage establishes.
Use your existing support conversation and the official contact channel for receiving instructions. A recovery phrase, private key or remote access to a wallet is not required to identify a booking or receive a transfer. Do not expose sensitive account information in public comments.
Crypto refund questions
Will I benefit if Bitcoin's price rises after I book?
The published refund reference is the original recorded fiat value and the amount eligible under the booking conditions. It is not a promise to return the original coin quantity at a later market value.
Can I choose USDC instead of a voucher?
Ask which methods are available and applicable in your case. Do not treat an example route in a guide as an already approved option.
Does deleting the old payment request cancel the booking?
No cancellation or refund outcome should be inferred from changing a wallet view or an old payment screen. Obtain the booking and payout confirmations through the booking channel.
