The room was very clean and of course housekeeping was good but I had a major problem in that there was really limited hot water for showers and the bathtub didn't really function at all with also having no hot water. I picked the room that I did for the bathtub in particular so that I can soak muscles and take care of you know cleanliness and relaxation with hot water but there was none to be had in the tub and only about 5 minutes worth of warm water before it went cold in the shower. When I asked for a light bulb for one of the lamps I was just told just to use the one on the desk instead of having a light bulb for the one on the desk and the floor lamp. So I was disappointed in that as well. The major thing was not having hot water for the bathtub.

The staff are not trained in customer service with foreigners. The service at the pool was terrible, without attention, very poor bathroom cleaning, there was no internet connection during the stay. A complaint was made and they did not fix it. Terrible, like a hotel with an excellent location. They do not know how to handle foreigners. The staff was unfriendly. They can improve!

BANG FOR THE BUCK.

This is a nice hotel simply on the strength of the staff. It's the thing that makes coming back worth it. I still have the same complaints about how hot the water gets for the bathtub which I think is something they can fix but like most hotels if you get a large bed they put two twin beds together and as you know if you roll to the middle it's going to be a problem for your back but it's nice if you are a couple. The pool area is very nice. The staff here is very friendly along with the maids or cleaning personnel however you call them.

HOT WATER ISSUE BUT DECENT ROOM

Of course as usual in Barranquilla the front desk staff and the porters were gracious and I have no complaints about that. My major complaint is about the room and not having hot water. I requested that it would be fixed but is lukewarm to cold at best. The other issue I have is a sore back because the bed is two twin beds that they put together so if you sleep in the middle throughout the night you wake up with a sore back for landing in the crack space. While the room is clean and the cleaning ladies do a magnificent job these two issues dealt with my overall comfort and it would be something that I would address if I chose it for another visit. The room outside of those two issues is large and nice as far as aesthetics. The hot water and bed is Major for why I gave the rating that I gave. I would stay here again but choose a different room because of how nice the staff is.

I had Room 206, the lowest room in the hotel on the corner of the building. It overlooked the pool and breakfast room. They played loud music in the pool from 8am to 8pm all day. They also played music from the breakfast room. This was a very uncomfortable stay. They refused to switch rooms or give a refund. There was also a banquet room nearby which was not used, but also could have provided noise too. The room was also dated. The corner room also absorbed all the noise at night from the street. Probably the worst hotel experience that I ever had.

Do not stay here. Try another hotel or upgrade to another one in Barranquilla.

25 COP ($6 USD) for taxi from BAQ to hotel. Cabbies vary, but you can haggle.

Hotel Staff was great. Karen and Gabriella, in the dining room are excellent, always attentive and genial.

Pool closed for maintenance on Mondays, closes daily at 7:50.PM; most inconvenient. Steam room and dry sauna were out of order.

Room was without hot water for 2 days. I told the front desk, the 3rd morning and they turned it on, before 10AM.

Bathroom was spacious, shower was large and very good water pressure.
Toilet takes work to flush, regardless of contents; very low pressure.
Only two towels, no face or hand cloths. Soap and shampoo provided.

In room fridge works well, after you plug it in.

No currency exchange, in hotel. Need to walk out, take a right and if the one a few doors down is closed, walk another few blocks and there are several, on the opposite corner.

Free Breakfast varies by day and was very good.
Hamburgers are very good.
Dinner was excellent! Had some shrimp in a sauce combo.
Beer and scotch at very good prices!

Yes, I would return here.

They did not honor hour guaranteed reservation and tried charging our card for the whole amount instead of pay at hotel. Then when we arrived 1 hour before checkin they already gave out room. No apologies, no help finding an alternative. I WAS HOMELESS IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY!

The staff was friendly but if my wife didn’t speak Spanish the check in and check out would have been a lot more difficult. I am most grateful for the special request of flowers and wine that the staff had waiting in the room. On a side note, the AC in our first room did not work properly and as a result we were moved to a different location. All in all, the stay was comfortable but didn’t make a lasting impression.

Had to change room 2 times AC not working. Same happened to the family members that had 2 other rooms. Our room had termites and spiders. Hot water was so hot i burned myself. Next day did not make it to breakfast on time so paid a la cart and the 7 of us were given bread that was old and green. For sure we will mever stay there again. The city has nicer hotels. We only stayed there because went to a wedding in their ballroom the night we were there.

I got sick for some unknown reason and the manager had a dr come to my room to check on my and my friend's daughter conditions. The dr not only gave us what to buy at the pharmacy, she also told us what to eat and drick for a few days. We both got better to continue our second part of the trip. Also very proactive to fix things in the room.

I found very strict rules that requires showing documents for all the people staying at the hotel even children at registration. I do not want a hotel making copies of my passports due to data privacy concerns. I have a stronger saying for information on my children, I find that unnecessary and too much. It took a lot of time at registration due to extra paperwork.

Nice hotel but slow staff

I stayed at a hotel with a friend for 4 nights over the carnival period. The hotel staff said they could not provide 2 room keys, we were given 2 different reasons by 2 different staff. 1 said that they just can't and also they didn't have enough, the 2nd said that if they gave a second key then the other one would deactivate.
The rooms were nice and cosy, however we did have an issue soon as we got there - there was no hot water so they managed to move us to another room. The water issue happened again but this was rectified.
The lift broke everyday in my stay, they managed to fix them but in their own time
I liked the location of the hotel, the staff were friendly but just very slow. The food by the pool is very nice

3rd visit at this Hotel i return for the value , the service and the Pool open late till 21:30 . I only have 2 complaints one of the towers has no hot water . I did 2 different stays 3-4 days on this trip the food in August was delicious . On this trip breakfasts were good but had 1 meal lomito cerdo bone dry and another meal at pool punta de Anca i had to really fight to cut to edible pieces . I will avoid meals on my next visit but will return

The worst part of my trip to Colombia was when I was forced to undergo a full-body X-Ray with no protection for my vital organs upon leaving the country, and that if I refused the government would place me in prison indefinitely until I complied. This was the worst experience I have ever had in any country in the world. Travelers beware. If you travel to Colombia, you WILL be forced to undergo a full body X-Ray with no protection for the vital organs, upon leaving.

This hotel is located in the heart of the city is surronded by all sort of stores and supermarkets. The rooms are from medium to large size and some of them come with a terrace. Breakfast is icluded, which consist of scramble eggs fresh fruit small bread coffee or tea. There is never a shortage of cabs that will take you to any part of town. Lots of air conditioning, small gym and a pool. I really enjoyed my stay at Howard Johnson Versalles Hotel.

You never know what your're going to get

We arrived from our bus late at night and the hotel didn't have a record of our reservation (I am an expat living in Colombia and travel to Barranquilla frequently and am very familiar with the standards of service in Colombia). I showed the front desk clerk my confirmation and he insisted I email it to him or he couldn't do anything about it even though they did have vacancies. I asked to add a second adult to the room and he said he could not because that is not what the reservation from hotels.com said. He kept insisting to see my passport even though I have a cedula. He was rude and unaccommodating and spoke no English. I booked a suit. When we got to the room there was a king sized bed, and no other furnishings other than the t.v. The picture with my reservation showed a two room suite with a bar and furnishings in one room and the bed in another. There was a large Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, but the jets didn't work. The common areas of the hotel are well kept including the pool area. Breakfast is not free it's a part of your booking fee. You are not allowed to enter with food or beverages from outside the hotel so you have to buy from the minibar because there is actually only one restaurant and it is open at meal times only. I wouldn't recommend tourists go walking around at night, take a cab to a restaurant and a cab back. Know that there is not a \"make it right\" attitude here if you don't get what you expected.

I would have given higher rating except the front desk staff were very un- informed. No one seemed to know much about their city or events. We were there for Carnaval and never straight answers. Nobody could direct us properly - even though my wife's first language was Spanish and I am more than conversant in the language. Everyone was nice just not informative.

Staff is wonderful like in most oft he Hotel in Barranquilla.
Its a budget Hotel for rafly 65-70$ a night.
Room are very old fashion and corridor quite noisy..no insulation
Nevertheless rooms are Clean with basic stuff expected..tv minibar, shower..
Swimming pool is ok. Gym a little poor. Nice terrace on the second floor.
The hotel is nicely located with everything nearby.
I recommend it to bachelors on business travel for instance..but not really for Family

Quite good but the food was awful ...especially the lunch and dinner. It is much better to go to nearby restaurantes for good local food and much cheaper. The staff are very friendly and the pool area relaxing , however, it is very busy with commercial activities and be careful of sales reps trying to sell you package tours. Maybe not ideal for a romantic stay but ok for business use.

A good hotel at a fair price. close to everything.

My 4th stay. Staff here are friendly, and capable. I'm only aware of one, in management, that speaks fluent English. My Spanish is poor, but I was understood, and they were patient with me. Bell, and housekeeping staff are very good, too.
An older hotel, that has been added on to over the years, and is a little convoluted, but is clean, and quiet. My first stay was in a regular room, which was good but not spectacular. If you can, choose the suites! They are wonderful, and will have one or two balconies, and a huge patio. There is also a very nice pool, with a nice, and attentive staff. Directly over the lobby is a common use patio. very cool, and always breezy.
In the lobby are computers, and a business center, which I haven't used. Also a weight room, which is adequate
Restaurant and free buffet are way above average...serving, surprise! Colombian food!. I have encountered one or two indifferent waiters, but all the regular (the people I recognize, over a couple years) staff are super. you will not be disappointed at any meal. And try the coffee!
Once outside, you are on a quiet city street, in a vibrant business district. everything you need is within walking distance; from small, street food stands, which I love, to high-end restaurants. Parks. Anything else is by taxi, and they are fast and cheap. The trans-metro bus is only two blocks away. Purchase local Sim cards, change money a few steps away.
Security is very good. Room safes. The area is safe to walk.

In Barranquilla, this is a reliable hotel. It is in the downtown area, has reliable internet, a free breakfast that is decent and it is reasonably-priced. I have stayed here 3 times and will stay again. In Colombia, there are a lot of surprises and hotels that call themselves 5 star are actually 3 star. This is similar to what you would expect from a mid range chain hotel in the States. This hotel is honest, reliable, the people are good. The same people have been working here every time that I have stayed here.

1st room a disaster,made me think I was in a oversize closet,terrible bed,one hard mattress on wooden slats,bathroom, size of a postage stamp..didn't even have a glass to drink out of..no chair in the room,changed to better room following day for additional price..There are better hotels in Barranquilla for the same price..I would have changed hotels the second day if I had not prepaid in full... HJ in Barranquilla ALWAYS could be better!

The cost for the room and complimentary breakfast should have also included supper. The bathroom was spacious, BUT when we showered, water almost coverd the complete floor. A three inch wall needs to be built to encirlce the shower floor space to avoid water from spreading all over the bathroom floor. Maybe when someone ends up slipping and falling and hurting themselves they'll wise up.

A great hotel for the money

The hotel is centrally located in a safe neighborhood. The hotel is well maintained and the staff is friendly. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Our hotel stay included breakfast in the hotel restaurant. I would recommend this hotel because it is a great hotel for the money.

I'll make it short: Clean building, friendly, efficient staff, great breakfast, fast&free Internet, new firm (too firm...)matresses, all-in-all worth the money, will definitly stay there again. Oh, yes: well equipped minibar w/a lot more then stuff to drink.

The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond for anything that was asked. clean,couteous and outgoing. asked asking if you need anything. very relaxing sitting by the pool. easy to walk to shopping or eating out. restaurant was very good on site.

A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing!

The hotel pool is not opened on Mondays, and then it is only accesible if an employee is on hand to unlock the door. It was written to be opened at *Am, but never opened until after 9AM. The electronic keys are only valid for 24 hours, and then you must have them recertify your room key every evening. Ther is no air conditioning outside of the rooms, and thus very muggy leaving your room and walking around the hotel. I and another guest were wrongly charged for various items in our minibar, and asked to pay an astounding fee for the items we never used. The maids and minibar attendant knock once and then barge in the room to do their appointed duties. Leaves little time if you are not appropriately dressed or other wise engaged in some private activity.

Gringo In Barranquilla

The only complaint about this hotel was that at one point my key/card stooped working and I had to have a staff person let me in my room every time.
Other than that, the place was nice, not much English spoken for this gringo, but they also do not get a lot of English speaking Guests, so I should speak more Spanish if i want to hang out in Colombia.

The restaurant was very nice and as with the rest of the Hotel, the service was excellent, I could not get the wi-fi to work in my phone and there was a team of staff members taking their time to try to get me logged in (my laptop connected fine so it was the phone's fault that did not connect).
I had the best sauce on a steak they made in the restaurnat, and the pace has a real formal feel to the service. This was an excellent place for for the price, and pretty good overall. I am returning to Barranquilla in the coming months and I will stay here again.

Sad it was just for one night!

We were stunned for the room we got. My kids were so excited and sad because it was just for one night. The people at the beauty salon were so nice and willing to accept walk in costumers, even it was Christmas evening. We really will come back at this hotel.
