My only concern was overbooking and we have to wait and convince them that we had 4 rooms. They didn’t have confirmation from Expedia for 4th room which was never expected with Serena hotel . Someone at the hotel changed our booking. Later they admitted 4th room.

At first glance, the hotel looks grand and impressive. Many guests are amazed to find a place like this in Pakistan, and the property does stand out locally. However, for anyone who has travelled internationally, it’s simply on par with average high-end hotels abroad — elegant, yes, but not exceptional. It’s nice for Pakistan, not globally prestigious.

What truly lets the hotel down is the staff and service. They are often standoffish, unhelpful, and occasionally rude. On the rare occasions they greet you warmly, it feels forced and insincere. There’s also clear bias — Western-looking guests receive noticeably better treatment, while others are largely ignored.

The limousine service is a complete scam, with fares doubling for the same route under excuses like “different direction.” Tipping is also expected constantly — even basic courtesy feels tied to how much you pay.

Even the “complimentary airport drop-off” policy is absurd. My mother didn’t need the 40-minute airport ride and asked to be dropped just six minutes away instead, planning to continue to the airport herself. They refused and made her pay, meaning she lost her complimentary transfer entirely.

Food is average, lacking authentic Pakistani flavour, and even the tea is plain kettle tea.

Overall, the hotel looks luxurious but lacks genuine hospitality. Beneath the polished image lies poor service, inflexibility, and favouritism — not worth the price.

The grounds are lovely. The room is nice. The provided cell did not work. The food was only ok - fairly salty on all meats. There is a dress code for breakfast inside so be aware. The provided “fruit basket” with the club room was two apples on a plate ;-). Overall a decent place with lovely surroundings.

When I arrived at the reception, I was greeted warmly, which felt very welcoming. On my request, they kindly extended the checkout time to 2 pm. The food quality was average; we had Lebanese cuisine. Unfortunately, we missed the breakfast and instead went to Rakaposhi Café, but based on the experience, I would rate the breakfast 3 stars. Overall, the property appears a bit old and could benefit from some upgrades. However, the location is fantastic, very central, and ideal for tourists.

Staying at Serena for the 2nd time - Pakistani hospitality at its finest!

They go above and beyond with everything they do, from the complimentary airport/bus terminal pickup to the warm reception (greetings & welcome drinks), to the ambiance /architecture (simple yet classy), the food and the facilities - everything is top notch.

Lastly, icing on the cake is that they gladly extended my stay for a couple of hours!

Will definitely stay here again another time.

I requested a smoke free room. Which i did not get.
2nd. I gave my cloths to iron. I had to call 3 times the next morning to get my cloths back. For a moment i thought. Staff had lost my cloths. After waiting for 3 hours. I was able to get my cloths. Thank GOD.

Lovely stay @ the Serena.

Fabulous stay at the Serena - I can't think of a more secure hotel. Firstly the English and Pakistan cricket team followed by an entourage from the Czech embassy meant security was always incredible tight. Staff were super friendly and the food at each restaurant was very nice. The complimentary mobile phone was also incredibly useful when out and about. Would certainly return if I'm ever back in Islamabad.

All around excellent experience at the Serena. The staff are consistently helpful and friendly - from the security to front desk to housekeeping to gym and spa to restaurant staff. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is pleasant.

The rooms are excellent - I stayed in two different rooms across two stays and found them both to be comfortable, quiet, and spacious.

The gym is excellent, lots of equipment, spacious and with a nice view over the pool (unlike lots of hotel gyms stuck in the basement).

I will definitely stay here again on any return visit to Islamabad.

We have been staying at Serena ISB for the past 5 years. Our previous stay was terrible so the GM at the time promised better service, we have just completed our most recent stay and it was worse. We pay the premium for Serena as we travel with a terminal patient and want the safety and security Serena once brought. It is now just a free for all of people wanting to take selfies in the lobby and attending functions. There is no distinguishment between paying hotel guests and day visitors. Rooms are now run down, no display of etiquette and noise disruption starting as early as 5am on a Sunday morning without prior written warning from the hotel to guests. Was verbally assaulted with physical threats in the hotel lobby by a grown man yet no member of staff offered to help nor do they keep decorum and ask people to queue at reception. This is no longer a five star property and the new GM’s lack of concern for our troubles has urged us to never return and ensure our family and friends do the same. I have travelled the world and never encountered such unbothered staff, despite that special mention to Naeem, Niaz, Abdul Rehman, (a man from northern areas sorry forgot your name), Nassir and Khalid. It seems the people on the ground are painting the picture for the people above to take credit on.

Check in process was not smooth. The entire check in process took nearly 45 minutes. When I walked into the room, it wasn't clean and there was a rotten and putrid smell coming from it. When I called front desk, I was informed that they don't have another room available. I wanted to leave the property right away but my luggage disappeared and was found an hour later. Cons: inconsistent dress code guidelines and selective application for breakfast area. My teenagers were not allowed to enter wearing golf shorts when others were allowed wearing shorts and bathroom slippers.
Though clean, rooms and furniture is showing age and need massive upgrade.
Our bathroom roof collapsed in middle of night with concrete blocks falling into the bathtub. Luckily no one was using it at the time. We were upgraded to suite.
Reception staff not well versed and check out took 30 mins. They tried to charge us again for the whole stay when it was already prepaid via Expedia. After calling Expedia, showing email of receipt and my bank statement they still won’t let go. Finally their superior had to be called and the issue was sorted out. Would opt for Marriott Islamabad next time.

The wifi was really bad. Despite complaining many times the issue was not resolved. I had work commitments and needed to work at night and the internet connectivity really did not allow me to work effectively. This is something which is really not acceptable in this day and age, specially at a five star hotel like Serena.
