The lodge was perfect just what we needed for a few days and our first ever safari. The food had great choice at breakfast and dinner didn’t use it at lunchtime but their menu looked fab. The safari drives we were warned you just never know but it was amazing the drivers worked so hard to get us to see as much as possible. We saw elephant close, lions, zebra, giraffe, jackal,rhinos, hippos and the jewel in the crown a leopard.

Lovely views, plenty wildlife and accomodation has a great set-up. Pathways are clear and paved but make sure to flag if you have mobility constraints sunce hilly at place and some parts more than 10 mins walk to the restaurant. Game drive into the reserve is a must. Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant served tasty meals. Nothing to fault. Hope to be back in the near future.

Friendly and helpful staff- a daily game drive where we saw so much (lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, zebra, kudu, buck...). The only negative was beng charged for two extra tea bags and extra milk - to have tea in our room. Was not the cost just the principal.

The property location was great for our daily safari. The staff are welcoming and made my shy kid feel right at home.

The kids enjoyed the impromptu elephant visit at lunch time and visits from Zebra’s at breakfast.

I would definitely recommend the place for a family visit.

Excellent service from all staff. The resort was incredibly clean and well maintained. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The safari guides had a wealth of knowledge about the park and wildlife. They could answer every question with confidence and engaged our children in q and a. We really can't speak highly enough of the whole experience.

On safari, we saw so many animals including lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, black and white rhinos, giraffes and so much more! Highly recommend.

Pros- Cleanliness, sincere staff, two safari drives a day!
Cons- No Halal food option but the chef tried their best to accommodate us. No heat in the room but we had plenty of blankets.

I still recommend this property for folks wanting to enjoy African safari.

Pros: Free Game drives; half boards options; wild life viewing on your backyard; restaurant staff are very friendly. Cons: have to bring your free water from your room to the rrstaurant because it's not free while dining in. Early check out at 1000, can request later check out but it's additional 600 per hour; no conditioners only shampoo and body wash available; robes are rough; you can not view your TV from the beds.

Our family of 2x adults and 2x kids aged 14 and 9 stayed for 5 nights in January. We had such a great time - Joseph was a sensational ranger and a character also - managed to find us almost everything obscure we asked about on our last drive. Also Tito / Tato (?) gave a really interesting snake demo - I've seen a few of these before elsewhere but his was really great and he was very patient afterwards with my kids holding the snakes. Clearly he is passionate about his snakes!
That said, all the staff were pleasant and friendly. The rooms were great. Comfortable, clean albeit somewhat dated. And the buffet food was great, variety and plentiful. Thanks Kwa Maritane - we'd love to be back one day!

Not \"luxury\", but excellent game drives

I was excited to take my family to a malaria free safari, high quality / luxury experience for our 2 weeks in South Africa. That the game drive, breakfast, and dinner were bundled made things easier. We loved the game drives - the rangers were knowledgeable- especially the ranger on day 2 who had maneuver through mother natures rain and who helped two other rangers with vehicle issues. We say the big 5, and I like that there's a pause for a snack about 2 hours in. I expected \"luxury\" - the lodge boasts about its food and dinner both nights was not great. Day 1 - there was a mad rush of people and the buffet was untidy with food caked on many of the serving utensils, and food dripped from one pot into another. Day 2 was better - fewer people and they had a few servers at the carving station. I think they could keep it more tidy and \"luxury\" by having people serve the buffet food instead of self serve. I also did not like that water and soft drinks were treated as add on charges. Please just include this in the price - this felt \"nickel and dime\" - and far from luxury.

Breakfast was good - though I would have liked tea and coffee to be ready to go vs the 10 minutes it took to receive anything at breakfast. And helpful if water was available.

I had pedicure with polish and the person providing the service cut me a few times, and the polish was not polished in the end. She seemed incensed when she bumped my not dry nails and I asked her to redo.

Stayed here 18 years or so ago before the fire. We felt that nothing has changed, it was looking tired. The dinning was limited, our 14 year old daughter couldn’t really find much she liked. We were there 2 nights which for us was enough. The staff were excellent.

This was a 70 birthday get away. Sadly I did nothing for the first three nights about the thatch and insects falling on the bed. The third night was impossible with rats sweeping and rat dropping on the bed. Our last night was what we had expected. Food good except for the stale bread and bread rolls. For a quite get away this place should be avoided, uncontrolled kids messed dining badly

The restaurant around the watering hole is outstanding. It has a beautiful view of the area, with occasional elephants and other animals that make it unforgettable. The buffets were great, the staff were friendly and the rooms and facilities were clean and pleasant. I’ve stayed at several places around the Pilanesburg and Kwa Maritane is by far my favourite.

Magnífico, mas peca no básico 😢

A estrutura social do hotel é magnífica, os funcionários muito simpáticos e bem treinados, a comida boa e o esconderijo para ver os animais fantástico. Uma baita obra de engenharia que errou no básico, o quarto 136 que ficamos é fedido e o banheiro sem nenhuma ventilação (sem janela e sem ventoinha). O odor da fossa ecoava em todo o quarto por conta disso. O wi-fi não é free como dizem, como estávamos trabalhando tivemos que renovar a senha várias vezes, algumas delas no intervalo de 2 horas. Péssimo. Depois de algumas renovações o acesso ficou lento. Foi o primeiro hotel no mundo que isso aconteceu com a gente.

We enjoyed a 4 night stay at this fantastic lodge. We had 4 game drives included and had a choice of either early morning or late afternoon drives. We were lucky enough to see eliphants, lions, rhinos, cheetas, hippos, crocodiles and a miltitude of other animals. The breakfast and dinner options were suberb!! The staff was amazing!!

Kwa Maritane is a very nice Lodge. Beautifull location, just the fact that you eat you dinner or breakfast with elefants, zebras, rhinos or something else less than 20 m away. Two Nice swimmingpools. Very good value for money.

Other than the water being contaminated from what might have been a water-main break that turned the water brown and acidic in taste. Overall, it was a positive experience. We were a little disappointed in the number of animals we saw on the one day that we went out on safari. My understanding is that there are usually more. The bed was a bit extra firm. The food was great, the staff was great.

This is a very special property: located in the Pilansburg Game Reserve, the Kwa Maritane delivers on all levels: very attentive and friendly staff, clean facilities, good food, wonderful game drives, and the highlight was watching the elephants ‘close up’ at the waterhole right next to the restaurant. We loved our stay at Kwa Maritane. The food, rooms, services and game drives were amazing and would highly recommend.

The only downside was we had booked on a Boma dinner for the Wednesday night, which is subject to numbers. We were informed there were not enough numbers and it was not going ahead. This was disappointing but understandable. However, when we were on that evening game drive, a family next to us said how excited they were for the boma dinner and were picked up for it at the end of the drive. When back at the hotel, that family shared photos of the boma with us, which looked amazing. We spoke to the reception staff, who continued to claim the boma did not go ahead despite us knowing of another family who were on it. That was the only frustration in the trip.

Would still highly recommend this hotel for the Pilanesberg safari experience.

Excellent stay at Kwa Maritane. The rooms are beautiful and clean, the food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Only downside was the guided game drive. Trucks carry up to 22 people, we preferred the self drive option around the game park where we could take our time, stop when we wanted to and not struggle to see animals and birds through other guests on the truck!

Perfect for family visit to the bush.

Perfect for family visit with young children to the bush - we stayed on half board basis which included 2 game drives. They are the larger trucks but didn’t feel too crowded.
My kids adored the swim slide and pool. Service good and food was at right level for meeting all family needs. Not too far from Joburg and also easy to self drive through pilansburg if you don’t have the organised game drives.

We last sayed at Kwa Maritane approx 20 yrs ago when we lived in Joburg. A long time later revisited with 3 children and it has lost nothing in that time as was as we remembered. Perfect safari taster for the children with big 5 in Pilanesberg, friendly staff and knowledgeable game drivers, comfortable and great food and just a pretty chilled out place to enjoy a malaria free game park.

On doorstep on Sun City where we also stayed for 2 nights and for those with kids - valley of waves, 2km zip wire, segway and me and mrs even managed our first game of golf for about 12 months.

We had heard reviews that places like kaw maritane were not what they were in the past - don't listen - it was a great few days and highly recommend

The cleaning service was impeccable, everyday we came back to a beautifully made bed and in the evening they even did turn down service.

This is an amazing place to stay. Beautiful grounds with animals right outside your apartment every day. As well as a hide and the daily game drives. Customer care is outstanding , very friendly helpful staff, who love working there. The chefs were outstanding and the meals buffet style were of very high quality. Disappointing stay. I've been here before about 8 years ago and it was great. This time around was very different. Rooms were smelling and very noisy. (extractor fans and or water heating). Problems with taps and water drainage. Reported and as moved to another room, but this was also smelling and noisy. Not a great experience. Amenities needed better equipment. Staff could be more welcoming and friendly. Game drive was OK. Nothing spectacular. Will not return

Amazing and relaxing getaway

Amazing stay at Kwa maritan , saw lots of animals on the game drive, kids had a fun time at the slide pool and the playground.

The hide attached to the hotel was awesome, and saw elephant and hippo there, as we did from the restaurant at breakfast and lunchtime

Service all round was great, with friendly and helpful staff members.

The only issues I had were with the early check out (10am) considering breakfast took 90 minutes, and the amount of time the hot shower water took to get there, seemed wasteful.

Lovely room, quite far from amenities. When we checked in we were told there was no room for us on the game drive. As this was supposed to be included in the deal with Expedia we were very upset. They said Expedia had not told them. After asking to see someone more senior they did eventually
find space for us. also the bush brai was cancelled supposedly because of bad weather forecast. We looked at the forecast and no rain was predicted and none came, we were very disappointed as this was the reason we arranged to stay a Wednesday night.

Great rooms, delightful staff, excellent food and in terms of animals and safaris, awesome. Especially the ‘Hide’ which takes you several hundred metres into the midst of the park, undetected by the animals. Breathtaking.

Amazing Bush Lodge

The lodge is located a few minutes drive from the Kwa Maritane gate of Pilanesberg National Park within the park. Excellent service from all the staff throughout the stay there. The lodge has excellent wifi. The room was spacious and clean. The food in the restaurant was excellent and varied. The restaurant overlooks the bush so during the day and night elephants; zebra, impala, warthogs visited the waterhole. There is also a boma located near the lodge where Saturday night dinner is served with bush barbeques and local entertainment. Two game drive options are available with experienced guides — one in the morning and one in the evening. You can buy a permit for entrance into Pilanesberg national park at reception if you have your own vehicle. The lodge is family-friendly with lots of activities for kids. The room was equipped with a tea/coffee station, TV and fridge. The patio overlooked the bush. The lodge is about 2.5 hrs drive from Johannesburg or a 30 min flight via small plane. Sun City is about a 10 min drive from the gate.
