Unacceptable room conditions and it took a medical condition for them to move us. Reserved based on photos of renovated rooms, but our family was placed in 3 VERY outdated and run down rooms. Asked to be moved and they said they couldn’t accommodate us and there was no manager on site. Our room had a very strong smell from previously spilled perfume and they acknowledged housekeeping reported the problem to them before our arrival only after several complaints and simply offered a fan to help “air out” the room. After several hours, I started having an allergic reaction and said we had to sleep in the car due to the strong odor. Only then did the front desk moved us to a renovated room.

This was the most expensive of our three hotels in Scotland, and the worst. Our bedrooms were tiny, with only a single bed. Despite extensive views over the loch, we were put at the back, with just a view of the car park.
The back doors at both ends of the building on our floor had been left open, providing little security from intruders or midges.
It seems to be a place that processes large groups, and they did that with efficiency, but we didn't feel any kind of personal welcome. So, ok if you want a place to lay your head then be on your way, it's ok. The rooms were clean and I really appreciated the walk-in shower, but if you want to linger and feel genuine hospitality, this may not be the best choice.

This place was perfect. We got in super late to our check in (basically in the middle of the night) and the staff was very understanding, even being so kind as to offer to refill our water bottles as we checked in. When we got to the room, it was clean, and quiet. The bathroom was perfect after a long day of travel, clean and with great water pressure in the shower and sink. In the morning, breakfast service was outstanding and the staff were again kind and helpful. Great place to stay, incredibly kind people, and definitely worth your money to stay here.

The room was lovely and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good we were served in the lounge area because we had the dog and that was very pleasant . All in all an enjoyable stay.

We stayed for 5 nights whilst travelling around the area. We were met with a lovely friendly face of Ria who checked us in & gave us information regarding breakfast & dinner times etc. there’s a lovely lounge area with fabulous views over Loch Lihnne, also a bar, Scott the barman was also so friendly. It was nice to have a chat with him. In addition to the restaurant, you can have bar food. We ate a couple of times in the evening and the food was absolutely delicious! Very generous portions too. The breakfast was fabulous and the young ladies working in the restaurant were all so friendly & cheerful. There was entertainment on two evenings whilst we were there but only caught it the one time. The young lady was a beautiful singer! Everywhere was immaculately clean; dogs are welcome in the hotel but there wasn’t any “doggy” smell or anything. We paid for a loch view room (so glad that we did, the sunsets were incredible) the beds were so comfy!! A choice of 1 or 2 pillows. Coffee, tea & pots of milk were supplied which was smashing after a day of walking. The shower was great and although the bedroom was quite small, it suited us perfectly! I would most definitely stay here again when we next come up to Scotland, our stay was perfect. Made even more so by the cheerful helpful staff of Ria, Amy, Scott and the young ladies in the restaurant. Thank you, see you all again in the not so far future!

We were fortunate enough to have a refurbished room, which was very comfortable and clean.
The staff on reception, in the bar and restaurant were very efficient and friendly.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant, but found it a bit average, the breakfast was good, it was buffet style but had everything you needed.
I’d recommend a car if you’re staying here as there are a lot of lovely places around Fort William to explore.

Not as depicted in photos. The front staff were wonderful, but the property is in need of dire repair and cleaning. We had 4 rooms in our party, in different ‘classes’ and they were all very dirty and damaged. There is no sound proofing and the bed springs are protruding. If it were priced as a budget hotel and it was clean, fair enough. But liquid drips, boogers, hairs, etc on walls, surfaces and bathrooms could be easily remedied. My cabby summed it perfectly on my departure - ‘My mom worked there 25 years ago, quit because it was dilapidated, and they haven’t fixed it up since.’ She did note most of the hotels of similar age in this area are of similar state.

State of hotel is not accurately reflected in photos. The front desk staff is lovely, but the rooms are incredibly run down. It’s like a super 8 hotel that was neglected for 25 years and given a light clean each day. It needs a full shut down and deep clean to be considered an outdated but ok hotel.

I was very disappointed with my stay at The Caledonian Hotel, Fort William.
On the first night, I found a piece of glass in my bed, which caused a small cut to my elbow. Although this was reported and the room was cleaned, further issues followed. The next day, my daughter and I returned to find water throughout the bathroom, which was reported but never investigated.
The following morning, the bathroom light began malfunctioning. Despite being told maintenance would attend, nobody arrived. Shortly afterwards, water started pouring through the light fitting, causing it to flash and make electrical noises. Given the obvious risk posed by water and electricity, this was a serious safety concern.
When I requested an alternative room, none was available and staff could not say when one might become free. As a result, I chose to check out early and book accommodation elsewhere.
The hotel provided a partial refund of £70, which I appreciated, but I was disappointed that the final night's stay and breakfast were not refunded given the circumstances.
Fort William is beautiful and the hotel's location is excellent, but unfortunately my stay was overshadowed by repeated issues and a significant safety concern.

Well located with beautiful lake view. Bar pleasant and welcoming. Self ordering of beverages and food.
While the serving staff were as helpful as I believe they could be, they seemed short staffed. I don’t put any blame on them as they were obviously very busy. A junior employee to clean off tables would be an asset.
Food was ok in bar/restaurant. We saw someone order fish and chips the first night, when we ordered the next night, the fish appeared pre frozen and had a very different appearance.

Excellent breakfast. Good service. Plentiful options.

Rooms adequate but a bit dated. Bed comfortable.

Seems to be a popular spot for tours to stop overnight. As a home base for exploring the area, this hotel is a good choice.

This property is not as it is in the pictures, room I dont think has ever been updated, hole in door to room where an old door knob would have been it just had some plaster over it, no decor plain walls and white bedding, floor creaked every place we stepped.
Bed was comfy though and breakfast offered had a lot of variety and was good.

Main problem was size of bedroom and bathroom and both needed some refurbishment. The breakfast was very average. Everything was self service causing long queues for coffee toast etc as 3 large coach parties staying. Hot breakfast was not very hot. Arrived after 9pm and not enough car parking.

Generally expensive and poor value for money. Would not stay again.

This hotel was clean & tidy. The 3 ladies who served both dinner n breakfast truly made this hotel for us. They were friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
They even organized us a fan it the Scotland heatwave as the room was so hot.

It was a very average room( fair sized ) on top floor overlooking the bins etc at the back of the hotel. Regret no plugs or phone charger socket near bed . Bedding ok and heating fine . Old bathroom with paint coming off bottom of the doorframe. Expensive and did not include breakfast . Wouldnt stay again .

The hotel room I was in was old with an uncomfortable mattress, carpet was stained, and the baseboards needed painting as the paint looked chipped in a few spots. The floors were creaky so you heard when anyone was walking around.

The hotel is in desperate need of maintenance inside and out. The rooms with no view on the Loch look out onto an unattractive parking lot.
Woke up in the night because of the loud heating.
Much too expensive for the room and service, would not recommend.

We stayed 3 nights and was told that if we didn’t agree to confirming breakfast at check in for each morning then the charge would go from £10.00 per person to £12.50 per person. That is just a rip off! We decided to eat breakfast in Fort William each morning at Wetherspoons and have dinner out of the hotel as a protest! It wasn’t about the extra charge entirely, but the principle! In my opinion we should be able to choose in the morning if we want to eat at the hotel. At that time we should be charged £10.00 per person not the elevated cost of £12.50.

The hotel is VERY basic - imagine Travel Lodge (20 years ago). We had to have dinner there, food was very basic and bland. Breakfast (£12.50) was like a greasy spoon. On a positive note the views from the room were good and the staff were very friendly.

The hotel is quite a way out of Fort William and there is not a frequent bus service. Also the bus stop is about a five to ten minute walk up the road depending on your age. This meant ordering a taxi to get us into town and back, which at £8/10 each way will add to your costs. The hotel was clean, but the sofas and carpets in the lounge/bar and communal areas were stained and dated. The menu in the bar was very basic and mainly burgers and standard pub fare. We paid extra for a loch view room, which was nice but this was spoiled for us by a shed opposite constantly using power tools to sand tables and an angle grinder to cut other things. The weather was good but having the window open was very noisy that we closed it. Also the road is very busy and noisy during the day. The staff however were very good and Maggie in the breakfast room was a lovely cheerful start to our day. Breakfast was very good but only served until 9:00 a.m. which was a bit early for us as we like a lie in on holiday. We enjoyed our stay, but probably wouldn't stay here again on account of its location.

Super easy to get to and the parking is right out front. The outside of the hotel is not much to look at but it does face the lake. Inside is a little worn but the staff is really nice and welcoming. You get an actual room key. As in a metal door key. Kind of a throwback but cool. The room was comfortable and clean, updated bathroom. Minimal noise but I could hear the shower in the room next door. You can adjust the temperature but I couldn't figure it out which is probably me. The staff offered to bring a space heater but it wasn't that cold. We did not eat at the restaurant because we went into town. There's a cool cinema there with a restaurant but make reservations if you want to eat there.

Lovely modern (guessing newly decorated/refurbished) clean room.

Not huge, but enough for the 2 of us, table and chairs to sit at the window (our had a view of the loch, so very nice).

We took the breakfast option and it had all we needed. Buffet style, cereals, toast fresh juice, cooked food (eggs, sausages, black pudding, beans eggs ), fresh fruit and yogurt then hot drinks.

Like everywhere, you know what suits you and what doesn’t, for us this ticked all the boxes - double room with bathroom / shower, clean, quiet and a price that’s affordable.

The hotel is a bit out of Fort William so you do need to drive in for dinner etc. The staff were very friendly.
The room had clearly been updated nicely recently. The corridors were obviously yet to be done.
The bar had very little character, i personally preferred to find somewhere a bit more atmospheric selling a wider selection of local drinks.
Breakfast was good with a good selection of cold and hot foods.
We did not eat dinner at the hotel as we weren't very inspired by the menu.
The room was pretty small as a triple room but we werent staying long so it was manageable.
Overall it was good value for the money but a little uninspiring.

Hotel is a few miles south of Fort William so I stayed in for dinner which I seriously regret. Food was mediocre at best and expensive for burnt pepperoni pizza overloaded with cheese and tomato paste and sausage unidentifiable as pepperoni. Staff uninterested in doing anything to help.
