Just a magical stay at the Heritance Tea Factory. You definitely come here to stay here for a bit as it's not near the main road, but it's so peaceful and bucolic. The sunrise over the tea fields was spectacular, but the highlight for the kids was tea picking and the dinner in the railcar. We stayed in the Flowerdew Suite, which was enormous, but the only slight gripe is that I booked for 2 adults and 2 kids and realistically there was only the one king bed and a sofa, and since the kids wants to sleep together, they decided to sleep on the floor. They actually had no complaints and said it was comfortable so we let it be.

Historic building but personally felt some modernization could be done without compromising the aesthetic qualities for example automate closing of the elevator doors. Also the access path to the property should be widened and resurfaced for safety reasons. Beautiful gardens and friendly helpful staff are redeeming features

The property is amazing, and I was especially fascinated by the old elevator. Both the dinner buffet and breakfast were excellent. Be sure to try the \"curd\" — a yogurt-like dish made from buffalo milk. There are plenty of activity options (for an additional fee), and I especially enjoyed tea plucking while wearing a saree. The staff were all helpful. The room wasn’t too spacious but was clean and nicely decorated.

If you enjoy fantastic landscapes, history and excellent service, this is the perfect place for you. Our welcome to this remarkable building was warm and very professional. The reception, restaurant and bar have been restored from a factory ,impeccably with style, class and sympathy. We were showed to the room via an orginal factory evelator. I loved the bedroom it was comfortable and cosy. Can I add it is very colonial, some would say dated, but I would disagree, and the hotels pictures of the room were accurate. We ate a very good buffet dinner accompied with impeccable service. I would like to add I am an engineer and for me it was a unique experience in a breathtaking landscape. But you will noitce there are no pictures of the bathrooms on the website. There is no getting around it, the bathroom needed a refurb and if you like modern day sharp hotels it may spoil your stay. But we thought overall it was amazing and we would not have missed the experience. Thank you to everyone at this unique hotel.

This was a beautiful hotel that captured its history. We had excellent service at the spa, enjoyed dining at the restaurant and it was lovely to walk the grounds.

However, I note that while most service was excellent, the supervisors at the front desk treated us very oddly when charging things to the room and then bought the eftpos machine up to our room at 10.30pm (knowing full well we had an early morning start the next day to hike Horton Plains) to get us to pay our hotel bill before check out the next day. It put a damper on our entire stay.

The biggest asset of this hotel is the fact that it was once a tea factory. There is still a working mini tea factory on site which guests can tour.

The hotel is quite removed from most of civilization which has its own pros and cons. It is also quite a trek to get to and from the hotel. With a very narrow road used for two-way traffic, reaching and leaving the property is an adventure on its own but may not be for the faint of heart.

Some basic amenities could benefit from both an upgrade and an update, including the showers. The hotel informs guests of the volume of water used per minute when washing hands and showering. Curiously though, the shower knobs were made to be old (more on this below), that water comes out of both the tap and the shower simultaneously. This defeats the entire principle of and drive to conserve water. Any attempt to shut the tap resulted in the knob falling off.

It is worth repeating that this was not always a hotel. That means when they renovated it in our more modern times, they made the conscious choice of making it authentically British but not in the best of ways. The rooms are right and rather claustrophobic. The use of green carpeting doesn’t inspire relaxation or bliss. Room interiors are, for the lack of a better word, stodgy.

On a positive note, the hotel boasts of magnificent remnants of the old tea factory. This truly is the highlight of the stay.

Wonderful hotel. Rich history and very well/tastefully kept. Staff are very warm and helpful. The grounds are beautiful; garden, mini tea factory and surrounding tea fields.
Dinner and breakfast were delicious (rice and curry is a real feast). Really nice and comfortable room, great view too.
While it makes for a scenic location, the only downside is access to hotel. Small, uneven road makes hard for car travel. We intended on going out into town in the evening for dinner but thick fog came in and as it got dark we didn’t think it would be very safe/practical to start driving off again. So we had dinner at the hotel which was also very nice.

Beautiful property in the middle of tea plantations and away from the city. The hotel is an old tea factory which has been converted into a hotel. an eco friendly hotel with amazing views of the hills. courteous and helpful staff, great food (buffet and ala carte) and lovely garden with a small play area for kids. the hotel provides experiences like nature trail, tea picking, tea making process etc. you can go for an outdoor walk in the near by villages and meet the local women while they are plucking the tea leaves. Nuwara Eliya as a town is georgeous and so mesmerizing. we travelled from Kandy to Nuwara eliya and had some amazing views of the tea estates, mountains and water falls.

The hotel manager refused to refund me even though I never went and called right after I booked. Hotels.com said to me it is the hotels decision if I can be refunded.

Wow, what a location! It’s a slow drive to get there, but so worth it. To see the hotel above the clouds, and such an incredible hotel. I loved everything. This was the only hotel on my Sri Lanka trip, that gave loose tea, tea strainer and milk in the room, to enjoy a morning pot of tea! I loved the 30 minutes at night when the old motor is turned on, when they serve funny cocktails.
I do wish they’d told me about the dinner available in the train carriage or even the gardens and walks. I found those out by accident by myself.
The restaurant has a buffet at night that is huge and more than what I wanted, however they could give me the simple Caesar salad from the menu, that I really fancied eating.

Absolute dream of a hotel; my only regret is that we stayed for just one night – with hindsight we would’ve stayed for two nights, or at least waited until the very last moment to check-out!! From the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the right decision to splash out and stay here, more so when we were shown to our Superior Room and were greeted by the endless views of tea plantations for all 4 of the windows (3 in the bedroom, 1 in the bathroom – all covered the full length and height of the wall so the views were very much encompassing). If you making the effort to come to this hotel (which was about 45 min drive from Nuwera Eliya along small winding roads) do spend the extra cash and pay for a Superior Room – you will NOT be disappointed. We woke at 5:30am to open our bedroom curtains (it was suggested to us by every member of staff once they found out our room number!) and watched the sunrise over the tea plantations – it was probably one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever had the privilege of seeing. The view of the tea plantations is so iconic and intricately linked with the image I had in my mind of Sri Lanka, so this room did not disappoint! I spent many hours during our stay here just sitting in the room and looking at the windows; such different views from each window, with the colours, shapes and textures seeming to change with the changing light. You really won’t be disappointed if you book a stay here!

The property is in a wonderful location, and the public areas are excellent in terms of presentation, and interest. The food served in the main restaurant was also outstanding, especially as we are not normally fans of buffets. The room however was very disappointing for the price paid. Firstly there really is no apparent benefit to pay the extra for the executive rooms. Same size and just on the top floor. Our room was really small, with no space to move hardly, certainly when you opened a suitcase. The bathroom was really poor and in need of modernisation. On top of this, the walls were paper thin, and you could hear noises from all neighbouring rooms. Unfortunately, we had a neighbour with a cough we could hear them all night. Very disappointed.

This property is located in a beautiful setting, in the middle of tea plantations. The hotel has a morning trail walk and tea plucking experience, which is absolutely worth doing. They charge a minimal amount for both activities.
Upon arrival, we were given a cup of tea, which was the best, I had in Sri Lanka. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, as the curries were cold. Other than that, everything else was great.

I have no words to express the experience at Heritance tea factory, it worth every single minute spent there. The staff, went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and memorable. Nice hotel and the location, shame about lack of hospitality, bad customer service, poor food and no heating while outside was 14C and strong winds.Also hotel is very regimented, full of DON’T do this or that otherwise you will be charged, which is not welcoming at all.I don’t understand why guests of the hotel would be charged to play pool? Why guests would be charged to use the iron? I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.

This is a true five star by any standards around the world. The tour through the mini tea factory is very informative. We even picked our own tea and had it packaged up with a gift of cookies and candy for our journey onward. We hiked through the village and tea fields too which was amazing. The views are unbeatable. It has been a wonderful 2 nights stay in Heritance Tea Factory.We were warmly welcomed by the staff there.The hotel was clean.I would definetly recommend you to stay there.There is also a tea plucking trail which last for around 1 or 1.5h maximum.Children would enjoy it.This is my second time visiting Heritance.I remember, Manoj for his warm personality and also took a picture with him.In the evening, there was a full spread of buffet and we had to dress smart casual.I enjoyed the food and applaud the food prepared by chef Shanmu.I will defintely return for his food.Thank you, Heritance!

Looking at the interior of the building, the old tea factory machines and the uniforms of the staff one feels as if one has travelled in time machine and gone back a century !!!
The staff is very friendly, the place is clean and comfortable and the food is superb. There are many recreational activities like Billiards, spa, a guided walking tour , a tea plucking experience and visit to the tea factory, We enjoyed being dressed up like the tea leaf collectors and collecting tea leaves in the baskets like the tea plantation worker.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay here and would recommend others to go there as well. Indeed a very pleasant and relaxing stay and an excellent value for money.

Beautifully converted former tea Factory

Despite torrential (unseasonal) rain this was a great experience. A cleverly converted space surrounded by working tea plantations, lovely staff who were extremely helpful for example when faced with a mountain of soaking wet clothes and boots (after a very wet walk to Worlds End), Don’t miss the little garden with lovey planting and surprisingly, ducks and rabbits. A good choice of A la carte if you don’t fancy another hotel buffet. Walk up/down the stairs, we did to the 4th floor and beat the charming but old lift each time. The former tea machinery is run each evening. Spa staff are Indonesian and gave several of our group wonderful relaxing massages.

Wow!!!!!

What an amazing hotel and location!!! The views are exceptional, waking up to see the sun rise and clouds below you was spectacular. The hotel staff and service was incredible, specially the restaurant and bar staff.
I will definitely be recommending this hotel to my friends and family.

Amazing Stay!

We stayed at this hotel on a whim, and are so happy we did! The food was excellent, and the staff could not do enough to make the stay wonderful. The tea tasting was really fun and the fellow who ran the event was so knowledgable about every aspect of tea production, the history of the factory, and the tasting of tea. The views were gorgeous, the hotel was very interesting to wander through, and the rooms were comfortable. Although the hotel is a bit out of the way, we would definitely recommend a visit here.

It was special but not THAT special

The hotel is really comfort and feels really clean which is something we don’t take for granted in Sri Lanka. The view from the room is stunning, especially when the mountain cover in mist. We had a very nice welcoming and all staff are so friendly.
It is quite remote and a taxi cost 3000rupees to get there from Nuwara Eliya. The room is quite small, which is another down side. Overall we had a lovely stay, but we think it is a bit steep to charge £200 for a night.

Ver Nice staff but extremely bad service

The hotel has a dilemma its staff is kind, amicable and courteous. However, the service quality is mediocre and slow.
My wife and I have bee traveling for the past six months. We have stayed in 3, 4 and 5 stars hotels. We have used Boutique hotels and chain hotels.
Our conclusion regarding the Heritance hotel is that has the lowest in relation to benefit over cost among all the hotels we have visited.
The service was terrible. The hotel staff committed a mistake that no hotel can afford to make. My wife's birthday was spent during our stay at the Heritance. I used the Expedia site to ask for a special treat for her -I never got a response. Nonetheless, the day of her birthday, our check-in date, I personally spoke to the reception staff asking if they could prepare something during dinner. The receptionist told me a birthday cake would be prepared. However, at dinner, the cake never came and the staff knocked on our door at 22:00 brought us the cake -they clearly forgot about it.

Furthermore, we pay for half board but the staff didn't understand what was half board. They took us to the train wagon to show us if we wanted to have dinner there. We asked if it was included in our reservation. They said it was not. Our surprise came when we sat for dinner and we realize the menu was the same as the one they show us at the train wagon. They clearly had no idea what that half board included the dinner at the train wagon.

Finally, the shower tub was clogged and stained.

Quiet and Relaxing

I was pleasantly surprised at this wonderful hotel and experience. It's definitely more of a calm, relaxing stay. We chose to eat in the train car one night, it was a little pricey but a fun dining experience. Beautiful views and wonderful staff !

We had a great time. Visited the mini working Tea factory and experienced the life of tea pluckers by picking leaves dressed in tea plucker costume sarees. It was a wonderful experience with high teas and dinner buffet.

Great piece of history

Great hotel full of character. It's about 20 minutes out of town, but to be honest once you are there you won't want to leave, unless you are using it for abase for a longer stay. We stayed for one night and traveled onto Horton Plains. Great food and reasonably priced. We did the tea picking. Great experience, especially for £2.50 and you get your own tea afterwards. Would recommend the hotel especially if you like a bit of history.

Fantastic stay in a converted Tea Factory\n

This was truly a 5 star experience in a plush old Tea Factory which has managed to retain the essence of its history. We had a lovely spacious room on the 4th floor with dual aspect windows and the scenery was stunning. waking up to the views over the tea plantation with the cool mountain air was very refreshing. The staff were exceptionally happy and helpful and we wished we had stayed longer.

Wonderful staff, shame about the poor food!

This is a beautiful atmospheric hotel set in the middle of a working tea plantation. Without exception the staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. We ate in the converted railway carriage on night 1 where both the food and the service was great. The main restaurant food however was very disappointing. Within the first half hour of dinner service two of the four curries on offer had gone and nothing was put out to replace them. At breakfast there was no orange juice, only cordial and the pastries were doughy or rock hard. This is almost certainly the worst food we ate during 2 weeks in Sri Lanka
