The location is truly stunning. The view from the top floor and pool area is so spectacular. The staff was excellent. The breakfast was top quality and so much choice. Dinner was also excellent although pricy. The spa and pools were great as well. Overall the hotel is a great spot, some of the decor felt outdated and outdoors some repairs are needed. But we were very happy with our stay.

Conflicted Views:

Positives: Stunning views, excellent pool/area, spa. Spacious suite, vg bathroom, comfy bed. Staff - courteous, helpful and professional.
Negatives: Decor - soulless/minimalistic. Restaurant/Ruby Bar - Lacking atmosphere. Food hit/miss, charcuterie boards 👌
Whole layout generally gave a sterile, isolated feeling.
Would probably need a car to get the best from this location.
Summary: Hotel doesn't really make the most of it's location, could do with the services of an interior designer to give it a more welcoming feeling, better ambience and create nicer seating areas and more aesthetically pleasing pool area.Could also provide, a customer service/concierge facilitating tours/activities directly from the hotel with third parties, a courtesy courier service to nearby train stations/villages.
A good place to chill out after a day touring but it's difficult to get past the sterile, soulless atmosphere.

A beautiful, clean hotel on the Douro Valley. Opening the balcony door in the morning, a fresh breeze greeted me, and the sound of roosters crowing in the distant mountains marked a beautiful start to the day. The room and bed were comfortable. And the breakfast was super. I'd definitely stay here again.

Outdated, bad food and not very nice. The terrace had a nice view but that was it. The hot tub area was depressing (no good view, didn’t feel much like a spa was basically a long swimming pool with jets) the deckchairs were uncomfortable. The long white dim corridors felt a little sad. For a 5 star spa hotel we expected much more. We ended up checking out early because it wasn’t for us. Far away from anything so be mindful there’s not much to do at the hotel. The spa treatments also were expensive for what they were. A shame really!

Not good value for money

We are paying almost EUR 200 per nights but I’m afraid the hotel doesn’t deserve that.

It feels like a dated 4* hotel, rooms are basic, breakfast is stale and doesn’t have avo, salmon or a cook-to-order egg station.

Most of the hotel looks and feels tired. Bathroom lock doesn’t work and phone in room also doesn’t work so had to call reception from my mobile. Staff are friendly, they gave us late check out which was nice.

For a spa hotel, the massage was very average.

I heard they are closing in October for renovations which makes sense, much needed.

This hotel needs a major refresh & a new interior designer. Too stark and dated with the exception of the light fixtures, which were very cool! The bed & pillows are terrible! Like sinking into a hole. Massages were equally below standard! The whole place feels like an episode from Severance. However, the breakfast buffet and the view were excellent!

Booked a stay for me and my wife as a routine escape and i didn't regret it. The most exquisite views and surroundings. The Staff were impecable.
The only finger pointing I will do is some lack of maintenace. From almost broken doorknobs, elevator panels almost coming off, fissures on the walls and a hole outside on the floor at the outdoor pool leaves a sour taste to it, as it is a 5 star hotel.
Nonetheless a great experience.
Just be advised, the means of transport in the area are really scarse, and if you wish to have a nearby local dining experience you will be disappointed, as there are no nearby restaurants or even shops/supermarkets. Either you dine at the restaurant hotel, which you need previous reservation (1 Day prior) or you ask for room service, which is equally good. The bar offers lights meals as well.
Also don't forget any type of necessaire, no shops or supermarkets in the area.

I had someone smoking next door to my room and couldn’t leave my door open to get air. It also smelled like sewage in my room. I felt the staff weren’t super friendly or helpful. Not worth the money for sure. They charge 7€50 for room service but it’s not very good and I’m small print.

Nice Hotel but not 5 stars….. only 5 star room was the suite but price per night is quite expensive for what you get.
Pool is great and the view! Balcony/patio nice in the suite…. But the double deluxe room does not have balcony and the double deluxe premium room has a patio but big wall at the end and you can’t see the view, best to go for a normal double room with good view or a suite. Breakfast was a good big variety! Reception staff very good and helpful! Decoration for birthday in the room was lovely!

El servicio del spa estaba muy limitado en los horarios para los masajes. Deberian tener mas flexibilidad de horarios. El shower tenia problemas para drenar el agua. Nos cambiaron la habitacion al otro dia. Teniamos incluido una botella de vino por cada dia y solo la recibimos el primer dia.

Delightful three night stay

We stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was on the 8th floor and was more a suite than a room. It comprised a king size bed, large couch, table for two and a bathroom. This room also had the added benefit of a private terrace/garden with river views.

Quality of fitout was of a high standard and also included were robes and slippers.

Additional facilities included in the room rate were three pools (and outdoor horizon pool, an indoor swimming pool and an indoor spa), sauna, steam room and a tennis court.

In terms of dining there is a pool bar, another bar and a restaurant as well as room service. We ate at all four areas and the food was consistently good as was the service.

We also had breakfast each day in the restaurant which had a good range of food and drink.

The staff were exceptional and friendly and made our stay enjoyable.

Overall an amazing stay.

My recommendation to property: fix the elevators. A lot of the elevator buttons don’t work. Saw multiple people confused about the elevator because some buttons don’t light up.

One of my pillows had a yellow stain on it. It was clean but the stain was unpleasant. Discard it if bleach does not remove a stain.

The service at breakfast could be improved upon. They were out of a lot of items. Also, there was a massive line to get coffee. If it takes so long to get a cappuccino/latte, why not have servers offer coffee to guests instead of making that self serve as well? I actually don’t think I’ve ever gone anywhere where I had to get my on coffee during breakfast…. They were also out of coffee cups….

The hotel is nice and tranquil. The staff were nice, but serious. They were helpful when needed. The hotel facilities need some of TLC, but our suite was nice. The spa facility is outdated and not up to standard. Don’t expect much Warning: all must wear a head cap if going into any pool. The massage was good and relaxing. Restaurant and food were good. Overall good experience.

Grand property with spectacular views. Modern design. Free garage parking. Spa didn’t meet expectations, but otherwise facilities are great for a relaxing trip to the wine country. Be prepared to navigate twisty roads to get there and move around the wine country. A lot of fun if you enjoy spirited driving.

This hotel was a lovely part our visit to the Douro Valley. The hotel is right on the river. Note that the river is clean and warm enough for swimming during the summer if you are so inclined. There are restaurants that are OK near by. There are many wineries to visit, including Aneto Wines, which is highly recommended: www.anetowines.pt. The pool is a lovely part of visiting this hotel and includes a sweeping view of the river and valley.

This hotel sits on the river, and every room has a perfect river view. The dinner menu and service was really good especially since there are limited food options in the area. Hotel offers a beautiful infinity pool that overlooks the river, but a bit too cold for me. I would recommend this hotel.

Not a 5 star hotel

The view from the room is impressive! However there are many services and details that doesn’t love up to a 5 star hotel. This is a 4 star hotel with a 2-3 star service. There were a few people making it a 4 star, the rest seemed to have a summer job before returning to school. 70 % of service staff didn’t speak English. We spent 6 days there, which were too many days. A long weekend would have been enough.

Overall, this was way to pricy for the overall experience. This hotel has so much potential, if they would invest in a proper restaurant in the 800 m2 they don’t use, and would have had proper service staff.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is modern yet very comfortable. The view from the infinity pool was spectacular and was a nice place to unwind at the end of the day. We were also pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at the restaurant. We decided to have dinner there one night and it was one of the best meals we had on our entire trip! The breakfast buffet was also excellent. The hotel is quite remote and not too close to wineries and port houses however the train station is just 5 mins away and exploring the area by train was really easy.

small things not happy about for 5 star hotel, only 3 slippers in wardrobe which looked as though they had been used, no light blub in bed side light, only one hand towel in bathroom, no breakfast tea or milk told you only got this if you stayed on 6th floor, we had stayed in other less rated hotels in Portugal which got all these things right. When we spoke to reception they did sort the light blub left 2 large bath towels not hand towels and changed the slippers but no breakfast tea or milk.

A little hard to drive to given the narrow and curvey roads in the Douro Valley, but the hotel, location, and facilities are worth it. The rooms are large, well-appointed, and modern. The restaurant is classy and the food was good. One suggestion: don’t order the shrimp appetizer. It is over priced at 11 euros and came with only three quite small shrimp. The rest of the meal selections were fine and the wine and port was good and reasonably priced.

10 year anniversary

My wife and I had our 10 year reunion at this hotel. The setting on the river was magnificent. A wonderfully peaceful area. The food in the hotel was excellent. The hotel even arranged a special gift on the day of our anniversary to celebrate, which was a great gesture. The service was professional. The only thing I´d say is the staff can be a little bit slow as it´s a relaxed pace.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The rooms are very comfortable, lacking only a kettle etc, so we couldn't have a hot drink in our room, but otherwise lovely, overlooking the river with spectacular views. The outdoor pool, on the rooftop, was lovely, an infinity pool overlooking the view, with plenty of sunbeds around.
We ate in on both nights, and the food was very good, well prepared and served. We were also pleasantly surprised by the price of the wines on offer. Breakfast was also very good, apart from the bacon, eggs etc, which just sat there congealing (a common fault with all hotels).
One minor irritation was that I contacted the hotel before we arrived to ask if they provided a shuttle service to or from the local railway station. They said that they couldn't collect us, but that they could provide a transfer to the station. However, when we requested this, we were told that it was not available. However, when we left the hotel by taxi, the shuttle bus was just sitting in the underground garage, so we aren't sure why they couldn't have taken us to the station.

The view is amazing, overlooking the Douro river. The hotel is very modern and has underground parking available. It was very quiet when I was there and there was no room service available so I grabbed a bite to eat in the bar. The menu available was limited but was fine for me.

Relaxing stay in stunning surroundings.

Fabulous location overlooking the river. Very quiet with stunning views. Easy access to local train for visits to Porto or towards Spanish border. No other restaurants around so you have to eat in Hotel. Breakfasts excellent , main menu good. Only one bottle of water in room on arrival and wasn't replaced on second day.
If you arrive by car there is a secure underground car park and someone comes out to help with bags. Nice bar and seating area although there weren't many people using it. Also spa , indoor pool and infinity pool all on the rooftop which afforded the most amazing views .

Beautiful new hotel with great food and attentive staff. Only complaint is the location... it is in the middle of nowhere! An hour drive down back roads to reach wine country. A great place to stay and relax, not an ideal home base for exploring.

New Hotel working to be 5 star but not there yet

This hotel wants to be a luxurious 5 star and it probably will be but when we stayed it was open just 2 months and many kinks were still to be worked out. As the price reflects the newness it was great value.

A typical example of the flaws that this hotel had was that the toilet seat did not fit the bowl so the cover often fell off the toilet. In addition the umbrellas next to the pool were tearing as they were not sturdy enough for the wind. There were quite a few such items still to be addressed at the hotel but the staff said they were working on it.

The hotel is modern and elegant. The 37 meter infinity pool perched high above the Douro river is exceptionally beautiful. Each room has a balcony facing the river and every night we would leave our balcony door open to hear nature and feel the beautiful breezes. It is a very romantic spot.

The dining room menu is much better on a la carte than buffet and in general the dining room is too bright and sterile. The breakfasts are very good.

The best thing of this hotel is the swiming pool whith its wonderfull view...
