Outstanding stay, thanks to an exceptional team

We had a wonderful stay, and the staff is what made it truly memorable. From start to finish, the team went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and taken care of.

Cecilia, in particular, was amazing. When we ran into an issue with a driver pickup, she stepped in and handled it with genuine care and professionalism. She went above and beyond to make things right, and it turned what could have been a frustrating moment into one of the best service experiences we've ever had at a hotel.

If you stay here, you're in great hands. Thank you, Cecilia, and the entire team, for taking such good care of us.

And the breakfasts were awesome too.

Hotel with lots of potential but felt a little dated in parts. Seems very understaffed. Bar and restaurant staff are slow because it seems they are doing multiple jobs at once. All are lovely and helpful though. Paid for a massage and it started 10 mins late and finished five mins early.

Déception pour le restaurant. Nous avions choisi de diner le soir à ce restaurant, vraiment decu. Le menu n’est pas digne d’un hôtel de cette catégorie. Présentation très ordinaire, et choix très limité et basic.

This was our first stay at Douro Palace and as we arrived and parked up we were amazed with location and appearance of the site.
We were really pleased with the welcome we received and then when we arrived at our room, which we had booked with a river view, were amazed with the view - we’d really recommend a river view room.
We enjoyed the outdoor pool that was available 24 hours with a bar open in the daytime.
We ate both nights we stayed at the restaurant which had really good portion sizes and the food quality was impeccable. The breakfast had a really good selection too and was all of very high quality.
We’ll be sure to recommend Douro Palace to anyone we know is visiting the area!
We did realise it’s a bit of a drive for the main, well known, wineries and boat trips but the quality of the hotel made that a ‘not problem’!

Very nice hotel and spa with an excellent riverside location. The grounds are very nice and the rooms have excellent views of the Duoro river. The rooms and bathrooms are good and the breakfast was very good. The reception, bar and restaurant staff were very helpful and worked hard. The restaurant was OK but not exceptional. Overall, an excellent hotel.

Do not stay at this hotel if you don’t rent or have a car!
The hotel has a beautiful architecture and view, the food is great and the staff nice but transportation are highly limited. They do not truly offer shuttle to and from Porto, we were there during the train strike and were stranded, we had to pay very expensive uber-taxi etc. to go visit around and it took a long time to have access to them, going back to Porto was also quite stressful and expensive and in the end the cost of everything really wasn’t worth the hotel. The staff were nice but they couldn’t really help. I would recommend only if you can have access to a car.

Very beautiful although somewhat stark resort and VERY remote. For me the best part was the view and the pool area. Staff did not advise us of all dining options. We made a reservation for lunch and were the only ones there 🙄. Same menu as dinner. Could have ordered sandwich from room service or eat at bar. But overall a very relaxing experience.

This hotel is amazing ! Has beautiful views , is incredibly confortable , clean , staff very friendly and helpful. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, food was very good and staff friendly , there was a delay serving food and staff were very apologetic
Breakfast is very good best bread I ever had in a hotel!
The indoor swimming pool is clean and provides a very relaxing atmosphere
The bed was very confortable.
I will go back again as this was a very good place to relax

A big disappointment

The only highlight of our trip was the amazing food served at the restaurant. We had initially booked for 2 nights as the hotels.com site mentioned there was a spa,pool and babysitting facilities. When I enquired about these upon check in I was told that none of the facilities were available which was disappointing

Relaxing, Great View in Good Location

This was an excellent stay. Everything went smooth with the hotel and very impressed with the restaurant. Short drive to the little country rail station that facilitates a beautiful, scenic trip up the valley and back for just over ten euros.

The spa was great but the staff seemed reluctant to be fully flexible with massage times. Appeared like they wanted a time convenient to them rather than the guest. Having said that, the massage was good.

A car is necessary in my opinion, but doable without. Like the pool bar situated on a hill overlooking the pool and river below. Would definitely stay again!

Exceeded Expectations!

The roads to/from the hotel are narrow and steep but the hotel is situated in a beautiful location with views of the river and surrounding hills. Very impressive and modern property that is located within 1 hour of several wineries. The hotel staff made a reservation for a private tour and tasting at a local winery on our behalf! Dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant were very very good and the bar tender was great and friendly! Overall experience was wonderful and highly recommend this property!

Great Hotel Great Views of The Douro.

The journey to the hotel was eventful even with a satnav. In the end a lovely local guided us there. The views from the bedrooms were amazing . The train to Porto each day was very convenient and much better than driving. Restaurant served great food and breakfasts were lovely. Staff were helpful and friendly and the cocktails gorgeous and great value. We need to go back to experience the spa, as we ran out of time.

Amazing hotel right on the river

Modern room with a breathtaking view of the river. Pool was quite and well maintained. Facilities are top notch. Very good restaurant. Had a great dinner and an amazing breakfast. Staff were overall friendly. The drive to the hotel was a little stressful (winding through small roads without guardrails but was a beautiful view).

Great service from the hotel staff.The hotel is quite secluded and we did not have a car rented, facebooked them to arrange transfer from Aregos train station and they kindly arranged for a taxi to pick us up.The views from our room were out of this world-we had river views, which I totally recommend.

Romantic getaway! Breath taking views!

Amazing staff and hotel facilities.The hotel was the home of a Docter and later converted to a hotel. It sits in the middle of a vineyard where you can stroll around taking in amazing views. Getting to this location is not easy so I would recommend if driving to arrive during daylight or you can take a train from the city of Porto in Portugal. The roads are winding throughout, so also ensure you have good GPS/directions. Great menu for afternoon and evening meals and morning breakfast is a must. The hotel sells a great local white wine. Parking was great too. The staff coordinated day trips for us and it was well worth it. You can take a train to Regua, then the boat up the river to Pinhao, then the train back to the hotels town of Aregos. We are coming here again!

Location: The Douro Palace is located in a very quiet stretch on the north bank of the Douro, about an hour's drive east of Porto. Driving from the main highway down to the hotel itself takes about an hour and involves traversing a lot of narrow, sketchy mountain roads (not for the faint of heart). Once you're there, the view is magnificent.

Room: Clean. A bit cramped. A/C sometimes required us to cycle it on and off a few times before it would start. Nice balcony with an excellent view of the river and both banks.

Food: Solid breakfast buffet and a decent, if not exceptional, restaurant. One drawback is that it's a bit of a haul to get to any other source of food.

Amenities: The outdoor pool area (also with a great view) was pleasant. The spa seemed nice, but we didn't get around to scheduling any treatments. Beverages (water, orange juice, and white port) and snacks (peanuts and cookies) are available for the taking by the lobby throughout most of the day. A couple of nice bars and terrace areas.

Service: Staff was generally friendly and helpful. Many of them seemed to be inexperienced and not quite as proactive as they could have been.

Overall: A nice getaway from civilization at an affordable price. For anyone not dragging a carload of baby gear, I would recommend taking the train. There's a station about a kilometer down the hill, and from there you can easily connect to Porto, Regua, Pinhão, and other destinations along the river.

Disappointing hotel

The hotel is not terrible but would probably be more a 3 stars than a 4. The pool is small, there are not enough deck chairs for even half of the guests and nobody at reception knows anything about neighbouring vineyards, despite the fact that the hotel is nestled in the middle of the vinho verde region and literally surrounded by wine producers. The quality of the breakfast is risible and the staff is - apart from a couple of exceptions - quite unfriendly and with really basic English. The rooms are small and dark, the whole feel of the place is more of a ski chalet than a hotel for all seasons and it's also quite difficult to find. Honestly, I wouldn't go back.

A vista da varanda era panorâmica sim , era linda . A cama para um casal não fez muito sentido, duas camas juntas mas feitas em separado cada un com os seus lençóis, que casal dorme assim?
A comida do bar e restaurante também ficou um pouco a desejar , uma tabua de queijos e enchidos um pouco mal servida e com uma apresentação um pouco má paraum hotel 4 estrelas.

Hotel com instalações boas em estilo retilíneo, moderno e quartos bons! A despeito de ter observado que o hotel recebe muitos casais apresenta um clima/ambiente de frieza, impessoalidade! Falta um pouco de aconchego na decoração e calor humano no atendimento!

Magnifique hôtel avec très belle vue sur le Douro, nous avions une chambre avec balcon vu sur le Douro!!
Tout était parfait ( a l exception d un jeune serveur au resto pour le souper, très impolie) mais aucunement la faute de l hôtel!!
Je recommande fortement cette hôtel
