The property was what we hoped. The issue we had was not typical but it maybe worth noting. After our stay we noticed we had left an expensive jacket behind. After many failed attempts to reach the hotel we have accepted the loss. After unanswered emails and lengthy times on hold and finally speaking to someone we were asked to call back the next day. We followed their direction and called the next day. Unfortunately that was the last time we had any communications with the hotel. We called many different times of the day to be put on hold then never answered. The hotel was not busy at all due to low season. We felt this was a chance to provide an exceptional service when it was really needed. The Douro Scala failed. Our request seemed beyond their capabilities. We simply needed to talk with someone.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful and set in the most amazing valley and vineyard. The Chapel is gorgeous, the rooms are spacious and the pool is a good size. The facilities are great. Transfer to and from Rede Station included, but not from Régua. The restaurant is not very good at all - the vegetarian rice dish was very bland and the food poorly seasoned, but the wine was fantastic. It was also great value.

We visited the Douro Scala in March (the off season) and enjoyed excellent, personal service in this breathtaking location. Our spa style room with soaker tub and separate shower, patio overlooking the vineyard, and very comfortable bed felt luxurious - bathrobes were a nice touch, too. Upon arrival we enjoyed our free wecome port overlooking the vineyards and touring the restored 17th century house. The dining room served delicious local cuisine with excellent service and fabulous views of the Douro Valley. The breakfast had everything you could wish for - and mimosas. Staff was always friendly and helpful (and spoke English for us). Highly recommended!

Alguns pequenos problemas mas nada muito grave. O chuveiro ao lado da cama foi um ponto negativo. Não dá para tomar um banho sem acordar a/o parceira/o. O cofre do meu quarto estava travado e, mesmo com a queixa, não foi consertado. Tirando estes pequenos problemas só temos a elogiar. Lugar espetacular, muito confortável o quarto e excelente café da manhã.

O hotel está em uma zona um pouco afastada da cidade.Não recomendo se deliciar com os vinhos e sair de carro. Os serviços e instalações são muito bons, a comida e café da manhã, muito saborosos. Boa relação custo-benefício. A única ressalva que faço é que a privacidade fica um pouco negligenciada, pois, além da parede de vidro no banheiro, a banheira não tem nem divisória. Ás vezes, nem em casal tanta intimidade é desejada. O quarto é de bom tamanho, lay out menos comum.O prédio é maravilhoso, a biblioteca com livros ótimos. Entre as construções, não há uma ruptura drástica do antigo com o novo. As linhas simples do ala acrescentada permite esse diálogo. O pessoal é muito atencioso. Confesso que me perdi algumas vezes para ir à recepção e estacionamento.

O Hotel fica localizado numa zona fantástica do Douro vinhateiro. Calmo, tranquilo e retemperador de energias com toda a paisagem envolvente. A zona do SPA e da piscina precisava de ser remodelada e melhorada com jatos de água a funcionar para melhor usufruir.

Não entendemos como se contrata uma equipa de cozinha que, notoriamente, não é qualificada. O jantar estava péssimo. A carta completamente desadequada, demasiado cara, mal construída, composta apenas por ingredientes fora de época mal combinados e pior confeccionados. Bons vinhos a bons preços. Lamentamos muito que se continue a desprezar a importância do restaurante no hotel. Somos hoteleiros, proprietários de um restaurante, compreendemos que é difícil, mas é possível fazer mais, muito mais e muito melhor. Valeu a simpatia do staff. Voltaremos com certeza, mas não ao restaurante.

Pela negativa tenho de referir o espaço SPA que, além de estar com o banho turco em manutenção (contingência) a temperatura da sauna estava muito baixa, assim como da água da piscina e de todas áreas de acesso aos diferentes espaços onde eram contantes as correntes de ar.
