The staff was amazing and the facility was spacious and clean anywhere we went. There were great spaces to releax by the pool, enjoy breakfast, and sun. The staff was extremely helpful and offered to book a win tasting tour nearby which was such a pleasant experience. I would come back to stay if I were in the area.

Before I review the hotel proper let me just say Lamego is a really cool town and this hotel is an upscale place from which to explore it.

The staff were excellent. Everyone we came into contact with was friendly and helpful. Check-in was easy and parking was in a secure underground parking area.
The restaurant is nice but I would recommend going out - there are better choices in town. The pool, hot tub, steam room and dry sauna are great! Clean and functioning.
My girlfriend got a spa treatment. She could not have been more pleased. Her massage therapist was engaging and did a wonderful job. She called it a real value.
The room was very nice. Big bed and amazing view. And the pièce de résistance was a strong flowing, clean shower.
I’m really glad we picked this hotel for our stay in Lamego.

We had a really lovely stay in the Douro Valley. Pedro at the front desk was beyond helpful. He booked us an amazing vineyard tour/tasting. Everyone was beyond helpful and friendly. The hotel is nice, clean and offers a very nice breakfast and onsite snacks. We were a little confused when we pulled into the property on where to park - the garage is under the property. The pool is beautiful and made for a nice place to sit and enjoy our morning coffee.

Rooms were just okay, quite basic, very stark. The property, lobby, and restaurant were beautiful which was quite a contrast to rooms. Carpet was a bit dirty and musty smell in hallways. Pool and bar area was beautiful. Town was extremely quiet when we were there and unsure of walking around at night. Exceptional wine tour by Bambuti arranged by hotel. Overall a nice stay.

Thin walls but nice hotel

Rooms were clean and comfortable but sparse, could make better use of space with additional armchair or something.
Carpet should be upgraded to something more comfortable
Walls are very thin and we had to ask to move rooms.
Staff are super helpful and friendly.
Restaurant was nice although over priced.
Spa area is nice to hang out in on a cloudy day.
The walk into lamego is only 20 mins and not so tough with the hills.

I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. At check-in, I was thoughtfully greeted and allowed to retreat to my room well over 3 hours early. Reception encouraged me to get some rest when I mentioned I was quite tired, and that they’d be happy to give me a tour once rested if this was my preference. This considerate gesture was just one of MANY positive experiences with this lovely staff.

From an interior design standpoint, I found the hotel well curated with special details like beautiful dinnerware from Costa Nova and materials that reflected the natural environment. Everything felt quite serene. Even the thought to plant rosemary in the gardens added a special touch; When out by the pool in the afternoon sun it smelled only of herbs and the effect was just so unique given the wine and the vineyards that surround the hotel.

The food, too, was excellent. From Caesar salads with quail eggs, as an example, everything had just a little something extra. The breakfast buffet also had expansive offerings including local, hand-made pastries. And with respect to the facilities, I wanted for nothing and enjoyed the spa and pool very much, including the fact that the spa had “children free” hours for those of us looking for those relaxing quiet hours.

I can’t wait to return with friends. There was so much more to do and see and my short weekend trip was not nearly sufficient. Further, it was so easy to get to!

Hotel with large outdoor pool and spa. 2 km from centre of Lamego. Public areas very smart, staff very good, excellent buffet breakfast.
Very busy with families in late June. Car park was full most of the time, but always space at the front of the hotel.
The restaurant was very disappointing. The food was expensive and mediocre, and the service was poor. We ate in the bar on our 2nd night, which was as bad, food served on wooden platters which meant it was cold!
Drinks were very expensive.
Mixed experience really, though would probably stay again.

Just what was needed

Excellent hotel and accessible with lifts and ramps. There is plenty of space and room to get around. Rooms are spacious.
The hotel has the historic old house called the 'palcete vista alegre' in its surroundings.
Swimmimg pool was nice and warm.

Located on a slightly remote part of town, and offers a nice pool and facilities.
There was a wedding taking place while we were staying there, which made it very noisy and unpleasant.
Another guest also put bar charges on our room, apparently without the staff validating the name of the guest.

What an amazing relaxing stay!, we've had such a great time, mostly due to the super friendly ans professional stuff, apart from the actual hotel and amenities. Food at the hotel and bar is delicipus and the seelction of drinks and wine outstanding. Perfect hotel for a relaxing break in Portugal but also close to different attractions and activities in the Douro valley.

The hotel was spotless, beautiful, and the breakfast was amazing. We ate dinner there one night, which was also very reasonable and delicious. I loved that they included a bottle of wine with the room. They had a wonderful bar and hang out area so we could go drink wine and play cards.

We loved our stay at the Lamego Hotel & Life Hotel. The property was great with a lovely Spa where we had an amazing 90 minute massage, great bar and restaurant.

We found all the staff to be so friendly, polite and helpful always going over and above. The reception staff were particularly exceptional as they helped me with winery reservations and transport to wineries and restaurants. They were also very helpful to my husband in storing his bike and helping him to plan safe cycle routes

Modern hotel with a large pool near the old town of Lamego. We really enjoyed our stay here! The room was spacious and breakfast was generous. The hotel’s design is nice too and the pool is lovely. We didn’t use the indoor pool as it was sunny when we were there but it looked great too

My experience here isn’t what I would expect of a 4 star hotel. We were in the area to celebrate and anniversary and birthday. I travel quite a bit and haven’t experienced something like this. The hotel did not have an iron/steamer in the rooms (common in Europe). I would have called services to request one but our room phone wasn’t working. After finding someone on my floor to assist they said they will get us one but 30 mins there was no available iron/steamer. They then later they said it’s all being used and we will need to pay for the hotel to iron for us. I decided to head to the front desk to figure out what can be done. To my luck, the elevator shuts down and I’m stuck. After they get me out, they offer simple verbal consolation. They then say they will arrange an iron for us by the time we return from our excursions. We return in the evening and nothing.

The service is extremely lackluster. No one knows how to handle any situation. In any other hotel with a little common sense, the front desk or hotel manager would give some consolation or make an effort to make a guest feel comforted after they get stuck in an elevator and are forced to wear wrinkled clothes but here nothing. While checking out they asked how my stay is. I said terrible and the agent shows no attempt at remorse. I know this isn’t the Ritz Carlton but for a 4-Star hotel, I expect some basic customer service. Id expect better from a quality inn.

Staff's big hearts make up for lack of accessories

Staff are loving and go out of their way. Charming spot, great meals and service. No iron and ironing board in the hotel though? Instead, they sent them offsite and had our clothes washed, and charged us for that and delivered them later than promised lol.
Also, restaurant is better than it looks in the photos.

This hotel was amazing! The service was incredible, the poolside (and everything) so clean and relaxing, thoughtful touches everywhere - the decor is soothing, staff are so helpful and attentive to all details. And the breakfast!!! Absolutely incredible! So many choices, beautiful views from the patio and poolside. We visited for our honeymoon and we’re left a sweet card and treats on our room too:) we so hope to be able to come back someday!!

A modern hotel and a short walk into town - 20 mins….some might find it steep coming back but a 5 euro taxi negates that. With COVID it’s hard to judge but the breakfast platters were enormous with the usual Med breads and cakes. They served me gluten free. Very friendly but not much English spoken. The spa is limited but we had a treatment which was ok. Not much to do in Lamego so a couple of nights is enough.

Relaxing, comfortable stay

Clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff. Nice European breakfast with bread, meats, cheeses, fruit, yogurt, etc. The GPS has trouble locating the hotel, but we called and they helped us. The only drawback is that the hotel is a few miles outside of town, so you need a car to get to town.

Lamego is a budget hotel dressed up like a luxurious one.

Overall we enjoyed our stay - the indoor pool is nice, the bar and terrace beautiful, the breakfast nice enough. The view is excellent

But there are lots of issues many of which could easily be rectified.

The outdoor pool area is in fairly poor condition and with floating leaves in the pool. It feels a bit like a deserted mid west hotel post cyclone. There was even a pack of dogs roaming around one morning. We were told it was heated to 25 degrees. Farenheit perhaps - it is nippy and we were the only ones for our entire stay brave enough to take a dip.

The rooms are very basic but nicely decorated.

The reception staff are lovely but the bar is chronically understaffed. I spent minutes stood at the bar while a barman wrote casually in his notebook without acknowldinv me. I wondered if i had died and he lacked the sixth sense. The food in the bar took so long to arrive people were getting visibly irate. But when it came it was brilliant.

The kids room was a nice touch although the floor polished marble, and the pool table had only ancient cues and not all of the balls.

On the first night I genuinely checked if there were other available hotels for our subsequent night, but in the end we had a nice time.

The rooms are lovely. The bar area is great with a nice tapas menu. I had a Lymphatic Drainage massage which was wonderful and was able to get in for an appointment the day we arrived. The weather was not the best for the outdoor pool but it was inviting. The workout room was well equipped. However, it did not seem like all the rooms had bathrobes as ours did not. We found out on the second day we should have been greeted with a wine tasting when we checked in. We were not and had to ask about it. Also, there was a list of planned activities that we never received. It was only when I asked at checkout that found out we should have been given it at check in. There is a book in the room about the SPA but not about any other hotel amenities. The indoor pool and hot tub were not as inviting - the hot tub had quite a bit of foam in it. The rooms were quiet and the over sized king bed super comfy. The TV had an English channel which was a plus. The bar and restaurant staff were great! The included breakfast was noteworthy and was filled in well as items depleted. Dinner was a limited menu but very delicious. I did like that the hotel is eco conscious. Decor is nicely done industrial. Good stay.

Everything about our stay was fantastic. Upon arrival, we were given two complimentary glasses of wine that was made by the hotel. This was such a nice touch being in the wine region. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We sat outside on their patio and enjoyed an amazing dessert with our wine. The pools and gym were clean and the options at the breakfast buffet were vast and tasty. Parking was easy. Would 100% stay here again if I’m in the area.

Un wow dans une localité rurale. Un coup de coeur pour le restaurant dont les plats sont de grande qualité avec vue impressionnante sur la Vallée de Douro et la piscine extérieure. Très agréable et relaxant! On peut découvrir de bons vins sur la terrasse.

This is a great place to stay if you are touring the Douro Valley. It’s a four star hotel with a ton of amenities, pool, gym, hot tub, sauna etc, great view of the valley. While a trip to nearby Pinhao is a must because of the stunning beauty of the Douro Valley, you can drive there easily from Lamego Hotel, and there’s a lot more restaurants and amenities in Lamego. Staff here are great and there’s plenty of parking

It is a well kept hotel with modern amenities. The location is about 1.4 kilometers from the historic downtown area. The rooms were modern but lacked personality and felt cold..as did much of the facility. I would not coin this place as quaint. The bathroom in our room lacked privacy. Hotel staff was very nice and the gym and pool facilities were way above average. Restaurants are not that close by, yet the bar snacks available were limited and seemingly overpriced. We did not entertain having dinner there. The view from the main area of the hotel was nice and parking was free and conveinient.

Beautiful hotel, clean, friendly staff when you can find them.
So, we went in off season, and therefore thehotel was basically empty. Breakfast selection was fantastic, but coffee was cool, hot water for tea wasn’t hot. Actually. They should just have made breakfast to order. Instead of putting on this gigantic spread for so few people. The indoor pool was beautifull, but the access from the women’s change room was so sketchy. Dark scary hallway, and then up some dark stairs, and no one around. Also, the sauna and steam room were on a different floor than the women’s change room, (in an old women’s change room, that the men could just traipse through). Lots of work out equipment which was awesome.
So, this hotel is hard to find because whwn we put In the address, gps took us to 30 km away, Then, tried my iPhone gps (thank goodness I had gotten a European SIM card so I could use data anywhere... super cheap for us Canadians!) and it got us really close when I just put in the hotel name, but got on this weird loop where it kept telling you to make a uturn. Then tried our gps again with just the hotel name and it worked, thing is, the area is full of gorgeous mountains, and the access to the hotel is from the top of the hill, so the gps had problems!?
So, why do Portuguese hotels never give you an extra roll of tp? Not great running out in the middle of the night. We learned to buy extra and keep a spare Roll roll in our luggage. great winery organized by hotel

The location of the hotel was great for the price. The sauna was luke warm at best and we didn't realized that it was gym during the day so linens are not provided.

The Shining

Once you pull into the driveway, you will be impressed by the hotel. The lobby is very grand, the restaurant and view from the restaurant are very pretty, pool and gym are great, etc. Then it comes time to go to your room. The pitch black hallway with red rugs is very reminiscent of the moving \"The Shining\" especially because the lights flicker on one by one as you walk down, illuminating the hall. Creepy. The room is very 70's and needs updating. It was clean and spacious, however. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and a car is necessary to explore the surrounding area, the adorable town of Lamego, nearby towns, river area and wineries. While it wasn't my favorite place to stay, it was well worth the price.

Location poor misrepresented by your staff

I was told it was 15 mins walk to the River Rio Doura, your staff misrepresented that, it was 20 mins in a taxi, no buses, it was not suitable for tourists without a car, there were no tours available. The tourist information had no available tours, we needed to go by taxi.
We would not book via your company again

Good comfortable hotel with good food and pool

Good hotel with helpful staff and comfortable rooms. Excellent pool. Very good food in the restaurant, which was well used. The hotel is situated on the edge of Lamego, however there is a reasonable 15 minute walk downhill to the main part of town. There is good free parking at the hotel and plenty of parking in Lamego itself, which has some reasonable restaurants in the Cathedral area.

Nice hotel with pleasant staff. Good location for driving around the Douro Valley.
A bit tucked away in a residential area and through what appears to be a supermarket car park but is a road leading to the hotel nearby.
