I had requested a handicap room. They said it was available. I needed hand bars in the bathroom, I couldn’t even get my walker in the bathroom alone shut the door. I couldn’t even take a shower. It was disgusting. When I got there, I was told they didn’t have a handicap, as I was checking out the lady said the handicap room was available, which thoroughly pissed me off. Room and I had already accepted my reservation. I was highly disappointed. I would never stay there again. The man didn’t offer me a refund or nothing to go find another place.

We travel through Iowa every year at this time and usually stayed here. I won't be staying again, the condition and cleanliness has gone downhill. The excuse is that the pool is undergoing repair but there is mud caked in the elevator and along the hallway carpeting. This should be cleaned up daily but it looks like it hasn't been ever vacuumed. The TV didn't work and after getting a new remote from the front desk, it still didn't work. The shower head was practically falling off. But the breakfast was good that's why 2 stars, merely poor instead of terrible.

The hotel was okay the woman at the desk helped us out and was very nice. But starting at 5:00 a.m. in the morning there were people talking really loudly right in the area where my room was and as such I didn't sleep very well. The shower head in the shower was not adjustable and was at a very strange angle. I would say the mattress was terrible my impression it was very old and uncomfortable. Combination of bad mattress and noisy other guests left me wishing I had stayed someplace else. I might try again but I would be very sure where my room is located in advance I was near the lobby maybe that was why I was so noisy super early in the morning. I didn't eat breakfast so I can't comment.

The hotel is older and the pool is pretty gross. We had cold showers the first night so they moved our room and the water in the next room was just lukewarm. On the positive side the staff are very nice and friendly and the beds were comfortable.

The breakfast was an unexpected treat. Eggs, 3 types of meat, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and giant muffins, along with the typical packaged fair. The room was ok, dated, but they allow pets for a nominal fee and it was super quiet. I would 100% stay again if passing that way.

I made the reservation for two nights, but when plans changed, I called several days ahead and tried to cancel the reservation. The worker who answered the phone directed me to Expedia where I was told the amount I had paid was nonrefundable. I had been led to believe that I didn't have to pay for the room until I was at Story City and had no notice the thing was nonrefundable. I hung up. This was a very unfortunate experience, but I can promise you I will never bother Expedia with any further business and am telling all my friends to avoid Expedia and the Comfort Inn in Story City, Iowa. I regret this development as we have stayed at the Comfort Inn several times a year for the past five years or so and have generally been pleased with the hotel.

This property is in need of major repairs and upkeep. Room service needs to up their game. They didn’t even make our beds. Our keys didn’t work and needed reprogrammed right off the bat. All the tables at breakfast needed wiped down and we were the only ones in there, so it wasn’t busy. And our food was lukewarm at best. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, but unfortunately this is the only place to stay in town that’s halfway decent.

I specifically reserved a room with 2 beds and when we got there, we got a 1 bed room. There were 3 of us and a dog. No rooms left available but they had a hide-a-bed couch (very old and uncomfortable) but it was for only 1 night so we made it work.

This is a challenged property. They only have one luggage cart and if someone keeps it in their room, it is a problem for the other guests and this is a large hotel. Our room had black mold on the bottom of the sheer curtains which then blew when the air conditioner was on. There is a chunk out of the tile by the elevator which makes it easy to trip getting in or out of the elevator. The rooms open with a card swipe but the cards don't indicate which way to swipe so if you have to carry your luggage to your room you may have to fiddle with this, too. We lost money in the vending machine and then it spat out a smaller version of the advertised candy bar.

The bed was clean but the top of the sheets were folded almost to the middle of the bed, which required remaking the bed for my tall husband. The shower takes a long time to warm up, not really an issue but very light water pressure. They provide hanging shampoo and conditioner but bar soap. We made the mistake of getting in the shower and then realizing we needed soap.

The hotel was very quiet, and the breakfast area is nice, in that it is secluded from the lobby. That also means it's locked at night so if you wanted to sit at a table in the lobby and work, you're probably out of luck. WiFi did work well and didn't require a log on password.

I think it's terrible to price gouge people when it's a graduation or holiday. It should be illegal how inflated prices are for special occasions. Breakfast was awful as well, was undercooked and packaged goods were stale and dining room was too small. No hot tub was also a disappointment for paying almost $600 for two nights.

First time here, and I was very pleased. It is bright, clean, and well-maintained. The complimentary breakfast far better than one would expect at this price point. Even the coffee was noticeably good quality. The staff, top to bottom, were wonderful. Everything about the hotel made it clear that the owners/managers take pride in their hotel, and take the extra step to make it special. One small example: Someone spent a good deal of time and effort decorating the lobby for Halloween. This is now my go-to hotel for Iowa State football weekends.

Checked in very late after a long day of driving. Got the room key, unloaded the kids and dog at 1:30am to find our key cards don't work. Go back down to desk - to find out the key reader of that room doesn't work and the room shouldn't have been rented. Now, I have 2 kids and a dog all standing in the hallway waiting for another room.
The AC unit made a very loud noise all night, making sleeping nearly impossible.
The hotel itself was fine, and I hope this was an outlier experience, but left frustrated and exhausted.

Staff said what do you want us to do. I asked for a refund and they got belligerent. After taking to the manager I was able to get the second day refunded and we left.

I cannot think of anything that stands out about this property. It would seem to fit in the $80/night category rather than well over $100 that my wife and I paid for a room with one king bed. The toilet was loose on its base, rocking back when we sat on it, the “gym” was a motel room with a tv and elliptical that didn’t work, the treadmills did work, if you like fast food restaurants, you will be happy with the limited offerings. Or, you can drive on - or back - to Ames for a better selection.

Check in was the worst experience I’ve ever I countered. Expedia charged my credit card, DID NOT notified my Comfort Inn with confirmation which took 30 minutes to straighten out!
Hotel room had used sheets and bed spread on couch (yuck), full garbage can with food containers in it (yuck) shower was stopped up with 4” of dirty soap water (yuck) and toilet was clogged up! (yuck) After a 10 hour driving trip I really didn’t need this. I voiced my complaints to check out gal at front desk! So dissatisfied with Expedia and Comfort Inn! I have been staying here for 4 years 2 times a year when traveling and have never encountered these issues before 😡😡😡
