Amazing location which makes this property stand out however all activities are aggressively priced which make them inaccessible. Yoga for instance should be included free of charge to hotel residents and perhaps some of the local hikes.

Rock climbing was awesome though and well worth the investment!

Overall I wouldn’t say the hotel is worth the money. Most everything is extra cost, the staff is not as overly friendly or helpful as you’d expect for so much expense, and the food is just okay. The property and rooms are gorgeous though!

The property, the location and the staff made this stay spectacular. I was welcomed with a 20 minute delayed check in which was not something you expect after paying over $1K USD. There were other minor issues which you would think would be non existent at a 5 star hotel but I had to deal with, thats not good! The views of the Saiq valley are breathtaking, SubhanAllah.

Wonderful luxury in an amazing location.
Rooms spacious and well-appointed as was the rest of the resort.
Spa was gorgeous.
The only negative was that the half-board food was very good but lacked variety. Having stayed at the Anantara in Phuket, we were hoping for exceptional and it feel a little bit short.

Price of alcohol and food very high ( eg by comparison with Kempinski in Muscat.

Costs in spa higher than 5* London hotels but the massage was in fairness first class.

Position provides a dramatic setting . We booked a canyon view room. On arrival they tried to ‘ upgrade’ us to villa with a small pool. The villa had literally no views being surrounded by buildings and a wall. We where eventually given a canyon view room on the first floor ( their are only ground and first floor rooms). This was an upgrade from our ground floor booking and was excellent.My guess is that they had overbooked the Canyon view rooms. If they had failed to find a room ( which meant check-in took nearly an hour) the trip would have been an absolute disaster.

The staff were generally excellent and helped me to recover from a poor start to Valentines by providing a small personalised cake and a rose.

We are not great hikers but enjoyed the walks to nearby villages. We drove into Nizwa for the souq. Very interesting.

We had 3 nights, 2 nights and a bit of advanced planning of activities would have been plenty

Excellent hotel and service. Well decorated a big deluxe room with a beautiful view on canyon (block B), very comfortable bed, big bathroom with 2 sinks. Excellent buffet breakfast and dinner with a wide choice of vegetarian food. Well-kept resort grounds. It’s a great place to stay.

Beautiful location. The views are stunning. We walked over to the local villages in the canyon, lovely. The pool area for the kids was small and with so many kids, not very quiet. Disappointing that no drinks are included in dinner, it would be a nice touch to include soft drinks, water, and even a glass of complimentary wine. The food was lovely and the service top notch.

The room was great: spacious, nice view, great details, impressive amenities. The spa (hot tub, steam room, sauna) was a really nice addition.
The main negative is that due to several reasons the property feels quite overpriced for USD ~600 per night. The biggest disappointment is the view - quite far from what you get around Jebel Shams, there are several villages and some ugly construction sites ruining it here. The resort is also not at all secluded, it's just at the side of a village.
Food (both breakfast and dinner) in the buffet restaurant was disappointing for the price, variety was ok, but the taste was nothing special. There were also no vegetarian options for the main course - when we asked about it multiple times, nobody offered us something off the standard menu, once again, we would have expected more than this. Finally, we had a spare bed stored just by the entrance of our room - nothing major, but I imagine there should be a place to store it where guests do not see it all the time.
A nice property overall, but quite overpriced for what you get.

Outstanding property with amazing views. The staff at Anantara were very accommodating and pleasant. We highly recommend this hotel. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular, as was the food. We also really enjoyed the activities that they provided, highly recommend the climbing excursion and the village walks.

Beautiful Luxury: Exceptional Service

Wonderful place. The service was the best we’ve experienced in the Gulf/M.E, Omani guides were so welcoming and knowledgable (great to see local people/economy supported). The food is pricey but everything we ate, we loved! I’d advise arriving at dusk - the resort looks its best at this time. Also bring mosquito repellent (or ask at front desk - they’ll give it free :) as it’s not too high or dry for knats! My only slight disappointment was the misleading photography of the place on every brochure/website which makes it look entirely secluded and every balcony right on the precipice of the canyon. I’m fact, there are some ugly local structures in view of most of the resort, and most ‘canyon view’ rooms are, in fact, about 100-150m back from the canyon itself. We had a glorious 1 bed villa, but this had no views. Overall I’d highly recommend.

A Paradise On A Mountaintop

We had a great and enjoyable stay. The food was delicious and freshly-made always. Its filled with picturesque views all over and around the hotel. The staff are pleasant and accommodating. Worth mentioning is Miss Juvy Castillo who attended tirelessly to all our queries and made our Anniversary vacation a memorable one. We loved the heated infinity pool and jacuzzis above the mountain. We highly recommend this hotel and we are definetely planning our next stay. 😊

Anantara Al Jabal was totally amazing!! Would SO very highly recommend it! The property itself was just gorgeous! Breathtaking views! 5* plus plus! We had dates, macaroons, Arabic coffee & hot towel on arrival. The staff was so very friendly and welcoming! We had a breakfast buffet package and all provided not like some 5* properties where water, cappuccino etc extra. We went with friends & all wholeheartedly agreed we will go back! The only small -ve thing was we asked the front desk about ATM machine. We wanted some cash for tipping - not that it was expected or required but we wanted to as everyone was so fabulous! The lady at the front desk said no ATM but no problem they could let the hotel car take us. Kareem also at front desk intervened and told us \"no\" to walk as only 10 minutes off property. 25 minutes later - no ATM and what to do. Malik, a very nice and helpful Omani working at Anantara saw us on the road as he was leaving work and stopped to ask if we needed help. He advised the ATM was further and took us there & back to Anantara. We were overwhelmed he recognized us and for being so very kind. This was overall the wonderful type of service and vibe from Anantara. Others later confirmed ATM a 30-40 min walk. Kopila Rai, guest relations Manager, was amazing helping us find the perfect room for our stay! We were there for Valentine's Day & dinner was fabulous complete with a rose! We took the Thai cooking course & chefs/food was fantastic! Delightful overall!

The hotel is very new so everything feels fresh. Our room was large and fitted out luxury amenities that you would expect from a 5 star. We eat in the Italian restaurant, the seafood pizza was excellent, pasta dishes were quite small. Coffee shop service was slow so ended up having coffee in our rooms.

a weekend vacation

We live in Muscat, and drive 2 hours to the mountain top. A perfect retreat from the hot weather down hills. Kids have fun biking, swimming and club activities. Food is also great.
just a minor concern about minibar. We were charged ~3 USD for some kind of chip in the minibar, which we have no idea of. Anyway, it is a small amount and we just paid it.

This is a lovely resort, very high up in the mountains of Oman. The architecture is gorgeous, the scenery is breathtaking, and the entire staff, to a person, was excellent. The overall quality of the food was only okay, but given the remote location, this was understandable. Overall, despite the long journey, it was totally worth the trip. This place is beautiful!

Fantastic five star resort. Exemplary service from our villa host Praveen and Blaze and his team at Bella Vista restaurant. The F&B manager Pierre is also keen to be of service. Would recommend the Spice Spoons cookery lesson. Only let down is that there are not enough food options. Only two restaurants and a deli open when we stayed.

Pricy big Resort but small rooms

Since it's a newer hotel and looking at the hotel pictures on the website, my husband and I were ok to pay a premium to try it out. The setting was beautiful and the staff was polite and wonderful. The resort is very big but the rooms are on the smaller size (which doesn't make sense). We were trying to relax and chill out on the balcony but our room was very close to the Diana bridge so it was quite noisy. Also, we were on the ground floor so we can here people talking and laughing from the 2nd floor. We went to the pool two days in a role but there were no towels. The food there was good. Prices in food and liquor in general are very high.

The Anantara is perched on top of Jabal Akhdar, a 35 minute drive up the Side of a mountain. I am a novice driver and didn't find it difficult, just utilise low gear and take your time. You won't hold anyone up as there is ample opportunity to overtake.

We arrived and were greeted with complementary dates, Omani coffee and a refreshing lemongrass and pomegranate drink. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help when they could

The grounds are spectacular, our canyon view room was beautiful. The view from the glass balcony was breathtaking and we were afforded the most magnificent view of the sun setting behind the mountains.
The room was very well equipped and the bathroom exquisite.

Now the negatives. The hotel is expensive. The room was dear enough, the transfers (although we didn't use them) are astronomically priced. For the 1 hour round trip from top to bottom, we were quoted 120 USD. If the price reflected quality it wouldn't be so bad. But that's not the case. The options at both Bella Vista and the main restaurant are nearly identical and rather limited for an upmarket resort.
The service was slow, very slow. Our cold meze starters took 25 minutes to arrive. Our hot meze took half an hour and had been fried from frozen as the middle was still cold. I asked for my meat medium well, which one half was, but the other half was rather bloody. The staff apologised and offered me a replacement but by then you are so sick of waiting and annoyed by the fact you'

FYI: must have a 4x4 to drive up the mtn to the hotel - there is a police checkpoint at the bottom. This is due to the steep descent, the road itself is in perfect condition.

Amazing hotel in the mountains

Our stay at Anantara was amazing! The hotel is basically brand new as they just opened end of 2016. The staff is very accommodating, professional and always available to help. The management, especially Ranesh, make the stay even more memorable. The area itself is fairly quiet, weather is slightly cooler than Muscat as in the mountains, and there are numerous nature based activities - from hicking, repelling, Grand Canyon watching, and heading down to Nizwa souk. Definitely a great spot for R&R with gorgeous natural views that will make the hustle and bustle of city life seem to be but a distant memory. Highly recommended!

Oh My!!!

The room...the facilities...the staff...the details...are beyond excellent.

The spa was divine. From the moment you enter, you know you are going to be de-stressed, pampered and spoiled.

The restaurants. Hmmm. I couldn't stop eating.

The terraces. My balcony overlooking the canyon, the sunset, the valley was so comfortable. Anywhere you sit, you enjoy. Anywhere you look, you are happy.

I can name every person who took care of us, but I won't. Thank you all for making this such a pleasurable stay and you know that I will be back. Soon.
