The room was full Of mosquitos but the staff was very helpful and fumigated and the problem was Fixed right was. Our room was otherwise clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not call it a 4 Star hotel but if you expect a 3 Star it Will Meet your expectations.

Hidden gem in the middle of the desert! This hotel is everything you want and need to make your Oman’s visit complete.

Rooms are big and comfy. Most of the rooms have direct pool access, which is very convenient. Bathroom is also big with good pressure shower.

Breakfast is great, plenty of options and an egg station. Coffee is also great. Definitely worth, specially since you will be far from anywhere else.
We also had lunch every day at the restaurant and it was great! Several options and very tasty.

There is a huge pool in the middle of the property. Well equipped Gym and plenty of sitting areas inside and outside.

Good hotel for the price and a bit in the middle of nowhere - around 20mins away from Nizwa town but manageable if you’re driving. Get a Garden room as the pool room balconies face the pool and no privacy. We had a car so drove into town or locally to get food so we didn’t eat lunch or dinner, but their brekkie was fantastic esp crepes, fried eggs and fluffy pancakes. Staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you. The worst part of the hotel are the bathrooms - very dated, old and don’t work properly.

1 night business stay

I stayed for one night in November 2019.
The hotel is of a good 4 star standard and is the only comparable hotel for miles around.
The staff could not have been more helpful, the rooms are large, well equipped And very comfortable.
There are great views of the mountains and you are about a 15 minute drive from Nizwa.
The Outdoor pool at the centre of the hotel Is well maintained and a lovely sun trap.

It’s fine but really nothing more

Don’t expect much. The hotel is a bed to sleep in for a night before heading elsewhere. The bed is not great, the pillows very uncomfortable, the fridge so loud it was hard to sleep and there’s the added bonus of a bright green ‘emergency exit’ light in the room itself. Oh and we were woken up by a wake-up call we didn’t order. I can’t really recommend it but the choices in Nizwa are limited. It’s not awful, it’s just not very good.

We spent 2 nights here, and enjoyed our stay. The hotel looks like its best days are behind it, I'm sure a grand old dame at one point in time.
Our room was very well sized and had a comfortable bed overlooking the pool.
Free parking and helpful staff.
Prices for dining including breakfast and dinner are exhorbitant, particularly for Oman. We stayed in some a high end hotel in Muscat and paid a lot less there for what the GT was asking. They need to work on their pricing, because no one in their sane mind would pay what they were asking.
It is located 9kms outside of Nizwa, so something to be conscious of if you're not driving.

We had a great stay at the Golden Tulip. The hotel has a great swimming pool, spacious rooms and a great atmosphere. It is a good distance outside of Nizwa, but none of the hotels in Nizwa are near the souk or the fort, so since most people will need to drive anyway, this hotel is a good choice. It also made a good jumping of place for Al Hamra and Misfa as that is a back way that allows you to miss the Nizwa traffic. We also made an easy day trip to Jabrin. So the hotel is well located!

Our 3rd visit and we'll be back again - love it!

Our 3rd stay at this lovely hotel over 4 years and it won't be our last. It is slightly dated but spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The pool area is the perfect place to relax after exploring the stunning mountains or Nizwa town itself.
A word of caution though, it is a good 10-15 minute drive from Nizwa town and there are no restaurants within walking distance. However, the food in the hotel is excellent to suit all tastes so that's not really a problem.
Try to include a Thursday night's stay in order to get up early and go to the Friday animal market in Nizwa - well worth a visit; a taste of the real Oman.

Hotel lobby and pool area were lovely and the waiting staff helpful. The rooms were a little old and needing refurbishment, the beds were very hard and the place lacked the atmosphere but to come back to at the end of day of sightseeing it was lovely to have a pool and sunlounger.
The hotel and Expedia however need to sort out the charging structure as per other comments I had read on Expedia the hotel wanted to charge us an additional charge as three of our party were considered adults and not children. They eventually waived the fee after a long and protracted discussion and said they were unhappy with Expedia and their room policy was clear. Be warned if you have children I would recommend speaking to the hotel in advance. It was not an insignificant sum they wanted to charge. The hotel said this cost would come from the staff on duty which seemed totally wrong.

Very nice hotel, the best in the area. Beautiful pool with pleasant dinner outside. The souvenir shop is very nice as well with decent prices.
Pros: Nice clean hotel, nice pool, nice dinner.
Cons: very ugly breakfast area. The breakfast itself is ok, but the place is claustrophobic.
Would totally recommend this hotel.

hotel itself is ok, worthy to stay, and it's base cost still ok. nothing in the neighbors so you have to get everything in the hotel, food, shopping, etc. they are quite picky and will charge you extra for anything... and easily end up costing more than hotels which look slightly higher cost.

Hotel lovely, stunning location, clean and modern, and good food. However...
We booked through Expedia for 2 adults and 2 children (ages submitted on the website), and even made a note to ensure we had rollout beds for the kids.
On check-in we were told we had to pay extra for my daughter as she wasn't classified as a child (we didn't lie about her age when booking!). This was because apparently she needed an extra bed (not the sofa bed already in the room).
We were travelling as a party and others in our group were charged extra for their only child, for use of the sofa bed (already in the room); they were then however given a travel bed, which they didn't need. Our receptionist suggested that my eldest could sleep on the floor as they had no extra beds - but they wanted to charge me extra anyway?!!! I suggested we move the extra bed from my friend's room (as they didn't need it), and we use it... we were told that would be an extra charge too!!!
On our second night in the hotel there was no mention of extra charges - however this meant that no extra beds or bedding was provided, despite my booking being for 2 adults and 2 children. We ended up using sleeping bags for the kids.
Finally, we checked with the hotel about bar opening times as it was close to Eid. Signs all over the hotel said bars would be closed from 6pm. When we arrived for our second night's stay at 4pm all the bars were closed, with staff saying 'it's Eid'! Apart from that, great!

Nice hotel great price

We really enjoyed our 2 day stay. The price was perfect. I loved the fact we can fit 2 adults and 3 children in one room. The sofa seat was perfect for my 8 and 6 year old. The kids loved the pool. It wasn't crowded. There was some issues to the room. Hopefully management will sort it out. We were in room 117 and the door from the pool side must definitely get fixed. Anyone can enter the room the door lock is not secure. Another issue was the shower head. It kept sliding down. My husband is 6'4\" and he couldn't get it to stay put over his head. We had dinner buffet once. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. Overall, it was a nice, short vacation that we all enjoyed very much.

Great place to stay and relax

It was brilliant stay. We had a room right at the back, garden view room. Pool view can be noisy at night with music. Garden rooms were perfect with outdoor sitting area and garden access (first floor rooms are balconies only).
Pool was clean and chilled in the hot weather. I enjoyed Shisha bar and pool bar. Both food and alcohol drinks are very good standard. If you are ordering room service on weekend, it'll be a long wait.
The hotel is located ourside of Nizwa town centre, but very close. And we did not have any problem traveling across on cars. Most of all, the hotel's atmosphere is very calm and beautiful in an Arabic way, so it was well worth the money in this area. (Some bar's entertainment is loud as you may expect in Arabic region. But you don't hear/see it from outside)

A comfortable hotel, a little tired in it's decor, a good place to use as a base for exploring around the Nizwa / Jabal Akhdar region (the hotel is closer to the foot of Jabal Akhdar than the heart of Nizwa.
The evening barbecue buffet was good, with a good variety of foods to choose from. The breakfast was poor, the food cold and a limited selection. Minor issues such as instant coffee rather than good quality ground coffee (first world problems).
The room was spacious, with sofa and armchair an outdoor patio linking to the pool area. The large kingsize bed was too firm for our liking.

We enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The hotel was very clean and in a great location. We enjoyed a lovely barbeque around the pool. However, the restaurant really needs an update- Starting from the decor to the menu. Not many healthy options in the menu. The breakfast was served until 10am but after 9am there were no longer proper table settings (missing a spoon, fork, coffee and nobody to help). If they fixed the little things it would be much better. Overall a very good place to stay.

Much better than reviews imply - recommended!

In this area there is limited choice and th Golden Tulip is some 20km from the Town of Nizwa which is a disadvantage. However, tourists only need one half day in Nizwa to see the amazing cattle market and tour the fort etc. The remaining sites are a car drive anyway so this hotel is fine in the end.
The Staff are as friendly as you expect in Oman - very!
Large pool is warm (in December ) and most welcoming after a day in the heat and dust.
Rooms are mainly on the ground floor and many open onto the pool directly. They are large with a bath. Huge bed. Free water every day.
Decor is a bit old fashioned perhaps but not out of keeping for Oman and the public areas are very spacious.
Restaurant is centered on buffet service but there is always a la carte available. We ended up eating there every night as there was enough variety and the price/quality was fair. This is perhaps where the distance to Nizwa is a disadvantage to the traveler's choice for dinner but we were pretty tired at the end of the day so it was fine.

Our trip was an overnight stay from Muscat for grandparents, daughter & family of 3 grandchildren under the age of 6 years. We had 2 adjacent rooms of double beds & sofa beds. Rooms & beds were comfortable & all rooms faced towards the good sized pool & setting sun. Kids enjoyed the play area & pool. Hotel reception & staff all very friendly & helpful. Very clean hotel & modern with good decor. Room safe, mini bar, coffee maker - sat TV (inc Sky News). Room booking did not include food but evening a La carte & morning breakfast buffet were good value & enjoyable. Good location to visit Nizwa Fort & Jebel Akhdar mountains. Would recommend & visit again.

All the luxuries - but a little dated.

The hotel is in a lovely mountain setting. The restaurants have great variety and are reasonable. It was a little difficult to find and away from the town, but that suited us. The children loved the pool area and there was also a small playground.

You need own transport if you stay there.Good comfortable hotel especially in Oman. A bit price for what it is. ( spend $700 a night at Shangri-la ). Unfortunately only spend 1 day in Nizwa, and i think it need at least 2 full days to see everything. ( if you don't want to rush it ) so 3 night in all.The town has a good feel about it when you arrive. ( best one in Oman) from a tourist point of view.

Traveled with young children. Wish we had planned for more time at the hotel and the city of Nizwa. The fort and souq (market) - about 15-20 minutes - deserved more of our time. We rushed because of other sites we wanted to see. Easily could have stayed an extra night and used the hotel as a daytrip hub. About 5 minutes - opposite direction from Nizwa - from the Falaj Daris.
Pool has a children's pool attached to the main pool but separated by a railing. Hotel also had a nice-looking play structure. Many rooms surrounding the pool had a small terrace directly accessing the pool.
The pull-out sofa was only a twin mattress, but sufficient for our young (2 & 4) ones together. Room also had a small terrace/balcony looking out on a common courtyard.

Close to Souk, Mountain Rim Walk and Fortress

The room was large and the bed was comfortable but the magnifying mirror fell off the bathroom wall and the curtain was hanging down on one side due to missing hooks. Both remained like this during our stay. The buffet ran out of food very early on the first night so we had to make do with the little that was still available. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the service was good. I would say this was a reasonable 3 star hotel.

The only decent hotel in Nizwa

This is a surprising good hotel. The rooms are spacious, very clean and decently equipped -- the one problem here being some rock hard and very bouncy beds. The overall facilities are pleasant and the pool area is downright nice; there is even an ok gym. The setting is very good -- mountains form a beautiful backdrop. The level of service is very good, including suggestions about neighboring opportunities (which abound). The food was pretty mediocre in the a la carte restaurant but might have been better at the \"Arabian Barbecue\" around the pool.

All in all, a pleasant surprise in a country where the tourism facilities are far from world class.

One thing to note: the hotel is 15km from the city center. The connecting road -- like everything in Oman -- was under construction when we were there, so traffic was bad, but this should not normally be a problem.

Overpriced for family, DON'T EAT here, VERY NOISY

We stayed during Xmass. Don't get a room facing the pool (but anywhere else will be noisy as well), they had a very loud band until 23:30, loud drums, impossible to sleep. Stay away during holiday celebration especially if you have kids... no sleep. Restaurant is abominable, really bad for international or \"local\" food. You are better off eating at the fast food close to the mall where Lu Lu market is... taster and cheaper. Very confusing to understand how much you are going to be charged for a room if you take an extra bed... The room rate was already prohibitive 180$ (for such a hotel), then they charge you 46$ a night for extra bed!!! but it is not finished, if you want to use the sofa bed (which is in the room already), then you have to pay another 46$ a night for the sheets!!!!!! what a scam! Clarify very well what you have to pay BEFORE you get there and in writing because you end up paying a 5 star hotel rate if you have kids!

Nothing to complain about really, perhaps a route map with the booking e-mail confirmation? We had dinner and breakfast and a few drinks in the hotel. Some things are a bit basic, but I would certainly stay there again if I was in the neighborhood.

Where was the pool!!

The hotel was almost deserted when we arrived - it was lovely and quiet. The food was fine and rooms good. We had looked forward to swimming in the pool at the end of each day as we knew we would be hot from sight seeing in the mountains and forts. However, the pool was not available as it was being worked on. I appreciate that such work is necessary but THE STATE OF THE POOL WAS NOT MADE KNOWN on the web site, so when we booked it appeared that it was available. Had we know that it was not of course we would have booked somewhere where there was a pool. To be honest this rather spoiled our few precious days in Oman. We actually looked at another hotel which had two pools and considered moving there instead. So frankly we feel rather annoyed that an important facility that the hotel said it had was not available.

Good base for Nizwa but well out of town.

The pool was scruffy and tired. Staff were very good and the food in the (one) restaurant was excellent. The dancing girls entertainment in the bars was unusual and amusing. My wife was fine in the Russian bar but felt uncomfortable in the Arabian bar basically because she was the only woman in there, apart from the dancers, and was ill at ease as the place filled up with men. Location - far outside of Nizwa, so far (8/9kms) that it is stretching it a bit to call it Nizwa.

Great place to relax after exploring.

The room was clean and the king size bed was comfortable. The sofa bed, however, was a very thin mattress. There was a buffet dinner set up at the pool which was pricey, but as the hotel is quite a distance from town, it is a good alternative to room service.

The Hotel is not in Nizwa as advertised it is nearer to Izski, there are no signposts on road pointing to Hotel, the Hotel was undergoing major building works, half the facilities were closed, the one Bar that was open although empty of any clientelle had at least 4 Hotel Security Gaurds sylarking around the bar, the barman stated they were needed later in the evening when it got rowdy to throw people out, the bed was hard and we were given one pillow each, the toilet was dirty with feces present under the toilet seat, no apologies were offered from management for any of the above, all in all probably one of the worst Hotels i have stayed in, in over 35 years of buisness travel.

Comfortable hotel in the middle of the desert.

The Golden Tulip has everything you need for a good hotel stay--spotless rooms, nice restaurant, big pool, and sprawling grounds. Even though it's somewhat apparent that an update might be in their near future, they have done a great job of maintaining the hotel. Highly recommended if you're going to Nizwa, as it's only about a ten-minute drive from the hotel.

Pleasant hotel near Nizwa.

This hotel is an oasis in the desert near Nizwa. It has a nice restaurant, pool, and two bars. When we were there, it was kind of desolate and we got a great room that opened up on to the pool. I would recommend requesting a room on the pool if you go there.

Nice hotel outside of Nizwa

The folks at the hotel were extremely hospitable, friendly and helpful. We were met with fresh juice and smiles. The basket of fruit in our room was a lovely touch. Our room's balcony let out to the pool which was convenient for kids.

The scenery was stunning, the bed was comfortable, and there was a restaurant in case you need to pick something up. We didn't buy anything from the restaurant as the dinner buffet was a little outside of our budget (2 adults + 2 children) but there is a LuLu Hypermart not too far away. The only thing I found to be somewhat of a surprise is that the hotel is actually outside of Nizwa. Coming from the Al-Ain direction, you have to go through the entire town until you see the \"good-bye\" sign and then keep driving until you see the hotel on the left hand side (which is somewhat out in the desert). Nonetheless, the ride into town near the big mosque is about 15-20 min with no traffic so the commute is okay. It's quiet and peaceful outside of the town so if you're looking for relaxation, you got it!

Best you can do in greater Nizwa area.

The Golden Tulip Nizwa Hotel is a large, modern hotel located several
miles south of the center of Nizwa. The hotel is a bit tricky to find,
because it isn't on the main highway from Muscat; it is on the old,
secondary road that runs through town.
The general ambience of the Golden Tulip is best described as \"Soviet.\"
The public spaces are huge, but lack warmth or charm - the lobby area is
enormous and must have at least a 30-foot ceiling. There's a nice and
pretty pool in the center of the hotel and the rooms are arranged around
the periphery (although only a few face the pool). The hotel is one story,
and there's plenty of parking out front.
The dining room was comfortable and the food was good. Service was fine.
The rooms at the Golden Tulip rate around 3 stars. They're
adequate, but are pretty much what you'd expect from a mid-range US
chain hotel. The hotel feels like someplace you'd book a mid-price
tour group. The rooms are small.
There was a noisy nightclub/bar - we looked in but didn't enter.
The desk staff was adequate, but not especially friendly or
knowledgeable.
Overall, the Golden Tulip is about the best you can do in terms of
good hotel facilities in the greater Nizwa area, but don't expect too much.
Some of the various Oman guidebooks prefer some of the smaller, cheaper
hotels (also closer to the center of town) for their atmosphere.
A reasonable rating would be 3.5 stars overall.

Good Hotel bit away from Nizwa

This is a wonderful place to stay close to nizwa. Its bit far away from nizwa town. But you can access all other tourist attractions like Bahla, Jibren, Jebel shams and Jebel Akhdar from here easily.

The front office staff is very friendly , especially Mr. Salim, who arranged our local tours. They have good restaurants and bars in the hotel. Staff of the restaurant was also very friendly and nice , especially Saida, who served our dinner.

we had a two nights stay and it was fantastic. Only problem was the heater in the swimming pool was not working. Otherwise every thing was perfect.

Dont miss to spend one evening in the sunset point.

Fantastic stay in Nizwa

This was the first time I had travelled to the middle east and the team at the Golden Tulip Nizwa did everything they could to make my stay as perfect as possible from answering questions and even making the room available earlier than the check in time because I had arrived early from the airport.

Everything was immaculately kept; the beautiful marble floors, grounds and with complimentary wireless in the room it was very easy to work (I was there on business).

I sampled the room service and was amazed at the quality of the food for only 5 OMR, I had a wonderful meal, and a wonderful stay and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to enjoy the beautiful country.

I did not visit any of the restaurants or entertainment bars within the hotel but I am sure they would continue the trend.

Would definitely (and will) stay there again.

A feeling of old style colonialism is mixed together with an impeccable service from the staff - this hotel is definitely worth a visit, make sure you’re staying for the delicious buffet barbecue dinner while enjoying a visit to Nizwa
