We had stayed here before, and it had changed. We had trouble communicating with the staff, although they were friendly and smiled a lot. The staff was not at the desk at times. There was no ice. There was no outdoor furniture. Yet, all things considered, we got our money's worth, and the location is great by the river.

Kind of what you would expect for the price - that said, it is right along the river and close to Hanover, which is a bonus. The bed and sheets were comfortable. Pillows were as hard as rocks. Bathroom had pee stains on the wall next to the toilet.

I had a wonderful experience during my recent hotel stay. From the moment I arrived, both the gentleman and the lady at the property treated me like a member of their own family. Their kindness, hospitality, and genuine care truly made my stay special.

They went above and beyond to ensure everything was comfortable and perfect. It’s rare to find such heartfelt service these days, and I am truly grateful for their efforts. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking not just for a place to stay, but for a welcoming and memorable experience.

The husband and wife team that run this place are amazingly pleasant. Room was spotless. Breakfast was a real disappointment. Coffee from a machine, a few bagels, etc.

It was great waking up to the Amon covered reservoir out my window. The room was comfortably heated even while the days were in the single digits, so structurally sound as well. The bed would stand up to the best venues, and great pillows and pro duvet
The sliver shower soap were the barest slivers, and one of those was shattered to unusabbility. But that’s splitting g hairs. This place was quality for the mo du for sure. I’d stay again if in the neighborhood

You get what you pay for. Cheap room but had a clean bed. Tv was broken. Very old rooms. We just needed a place to put us closer to the ski mountains to sleep. This place is under an hour to killington and about an hour to sugarbush so it suited our needs.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was as cold as the outside air and took 4 hours to get warm enough to sleep. I am a professional driver and stay in many hotels. The fact that it took so long to get warm enough to sleep means that sleep deprivation existed the next day. Not good for a pro-driver.

In a bind, I would stay here again because it is very close to Dartmouth, I felt safe, the room was spacious, clean, quiet, and the staff friendly. There was a strong musty smell that hit me every time I re-entered the room, likely due to the age of the property.

The staff was very nice and accommodating. This facility is on the bank of the Connecticut River and the surroundings were very nice with the fall colors.The room was clean and warm and the #2 rating is accurate. The establishment is dated with its furnishings and decor but it was a good value for the money. If you're looking for economy and not useless glitz and glitter, this is the place for you. Nice and quiet.

The room was very disgusting.. Dirty.. Dead insects.. Would not walk on floors.. kept sox on.. Would not sleep in bed.. kept clothes on.. Strange gurgling sounds from bathroom.. Wall paper had holes in it.. Worst place we ever stayed.. PLUS most expensive place in 4 days in Vermont !!.. We feel sorry for the 'managers', who were nice.. Hope they were not cheated into buying the place

The motel is very plain, with unmatching furniture, for example (not like a modern chain), and the bathroom was tight but very clean and partially renovated. Inside was decent, though outside needed paint, which didn't affect us. The king bed and pillows were actually very comfortable.

Was in town for Dartmouth family weekend. Check in was weird and was not sure if we were ever fully checked in, but everything on my card seems correct. The inn is dated, for sure. Pillows and bedding was comfortable. Wallpaper was peeling and fastened with push pins in spots. AC and fridge were good. Tv was plentiful with channels. Bathroom was small, some possible moldy spots and bring your own toiletries as the ones provided are lacking. Overall, price was on point for the weekend for a family on a budget. The view of the river was lovely. It was quiet and peaceful. There are no bells or whistles. We did not take advantage of any breakfast amenities so I am unable to comment on that. I give this property a, “clean enough” score. If you are okay with a little dated and a little run down, it’s perfect. Two miles from campus makes it convenient. Would love to see them make some updates. But will stay again.

This is an older hotel. If you desire a comfortable room that's clean and warm but has no frills, then this is a great bargain.
I got the impression that the owners were new, like family run. Only free coffee in the office available. People were friendly and caring! They went out of their way to make sure I got my driver's license back after leaving it at the office.
I will stay here again.

Not worth it.

The bathroom was in poor shape. Duct tape on the door, plywood cabinet supporting the sink. It was definitely not worth the price I paid. I would have paid $40-50 to stay here, especially considering the fact that there was an advertised breakfast (the only reason I chose this place over others that cost $10 more) that didn’t actually exist. Coffee is not breakfast. 0/10 do not recommend…

The shower water pressure was so slight I would never have gotten shampoo out. The shower head is loose in the wall which is probably full of mold. Bed was lumpy and gross and pillows just as bad. It was doable for me, but I would never bring my kids to stay here with me.

Room very dirty. Shower dripped so bathroom floor totally wet, fall hazard. No toilet paper in room. Not vacuumed food crumbs etc all over rug. Dead bugs on floor, flies even a bee. No one ever in office have to call number multiple times for assistance. Bread, english muffins etc not put away all day. Breakfast 7 to 9 breads out all day and same stuff out next day. Will not stay here again

We ate our carryout dinner outside looking at the nearby Connecticut River. That was a treat, unlike any other motel we have ever stayed at. The desk staff was cordial and quick. The coffee was delicious. The facility is older and the bathroom smaller than most, but the bed was comfortable, and we slept well.

This is an older family run motel that is showing its age but at the same provides a night’s stay at a reasonable price. We had one of the units with a king -sized bed and a view of the river. The motel provided a typical breakfast but with malted waffles you could cook.

Shower water pressure is so low it would not clean body lotion off one’s body! Spoke several times with hotel representatives and they claim to he entire hotel has low water pressure, they also claimed to hey tried to fix the problem but no one was able to fix it. Someone offered them to fix it last week in front of me and they definitely suggested they will talk to the owner! They know why is water pressure so weak! Anyway if you’d stay here just don’t count on breakfast as cream was rotten when I went to get some coffee! Just spare yourself and go somewhere else.

The owners of the hotel both stood and watched me while I ate breakfast, as if making sure I didn’t take too much food. 20 minutes before check-out there was a knock on the door and the two owners were standing there telling me it was time to check out, even though I still had 20 minutes. It was very weird.

A special spot

We couldn’t believe how special this place is. We requested a water view and the sunset was so beautiful and calming. The motel itsself was also very quiet, and the staff kind and helpful. We highly recommend. Go elsewhere if you want a generic, view-less, chain-hotel. It may be more “up to date” but won’t be as special. Any negative reviews are from people who have expectations outside of what the Sunset Motor Inn is clearly offering.

This was a total ripoff by both the motel and hotels.com. I reserved two rooms with two queen beds each. I wound up needing a back operation and called hotels.com to cancel one room and change the check- in date for the other. Hotels.com assured me that this was done.

When my daughter got to the motel, she found that hotels.com had not, in fact, changed the check- in date and I would be charged for the extra day unless hotels.com contacted the motel to verify the cancellation.

After three hours of chatting with a hotels.com representative (including twice being disconnected), I was told that the motel and I would receive an email within 15 minutes canceling the extra day. Neither of us received it, so back to another chat. This time the rep called the motel but the manager said no to the cancellation even though I had just been told to have hotels.com call.
Finally, we accepted the extra charge but when she got to the room there was only one bed for her and my two grandsons. When she went back to the office to complain, they called the police on her and charged her for another day in the room even though all she did was open the door and see that there was only one bed.

She wound up staying at an AirBnB.

Nothing but lies and ripoff. I have the transcripts of the conversations with hotels.com to prove what I am saying.
