The setting is truly exceptional.

But I barely slept for two of my three nights in Milkwood 1, due to constant noise from guests passing just 1 meter from my head, along my unit, on a gravel path.

A quieter room was given on my last night — but I wish this had been addressed sooner

Great to experience a night in the rainforest although not for the faint hearted! The sounds at night were a bit scary if you’re not used to it and a large branch or something fell onto our cabin and scared the life out of me! The heavy rain kept me awake most of the night as was very loud! I could not relax for fear of a tree falling but that’s just my anxiety as I’m sure it was quite safe! The showers and toilets were very clean as was the cabin. The pool was lovely to cool off in. The food choice was good but sorry to say the feta pasta and salad far too salty and therefore inedible. The pudding was also far too sugary but lovely! Maybe that’s the way they cook out here , I don’t know, but not to my personal taste. The ice cream place at the end of the road- flora fauna was so nice and an interesting place to visit much nicer than the Daintree ice cream. Owners were nice and friendly. Overall a good experience and I would recommend a night here. Daintree village the other side of the river is a lovely quaint place with lovely views of the river and we did a croc cruise from there and saw the biggest croc ever!

Exactly what we were told :)

Daintree Crocodylus are very clear in what they are and what they are not. We found their advice to be very accurate. Yes, they are \"very JUNGLY\" and that was great for us. My two kids had a great time and really enjoyed being in the rain forest with all the sounds. We met lots of great people in the communal area. We purchased food and it was great (leaning toward spicy for dinners so you might want to consider that with kids). My wife was impressed with the cleanliness of the toilets and showers. Check-in is casual. You can usually turn up about 12pm and check your room out. Actual formal checkin is at 5pm. I'd recommend exploring more of the Daintree and then arriving later for a swim in their pool. DC give good advice on what you can do.
Before crossing the car ferry on the way up, consider doing a crocodile cruise at Daintree Village with Daintree Crocodiule Tours or similar. We did this and it saved an extra car ferry trip ($$). Saw 3 crocs :)

What a wonderful surprise to stay at this property. The tent style accommodation was a bit confronting at first, but as soon as you lay down and listened to the wildlife outside you soon realised how special Crocodylus is. Getting your bags to your gut was a bit of an effort, but, hey, how much “stuff” do you really need?
We enjoyed our two night stay very much and would tell anyone interested to give it a go. Obviously, it’s not a 5 Star Hotel, but does offer something different that not all 5 Star Hotels can/do.

Gorgeous setting. Friendly welcome. Tents are solid as they withstood a very windy and rainy night. We didn't mind the limited availability of power. Food was tasty.
One minor suggestion to managment - blankets could do with replacement.

Camping in the Daintree

I'll be honest and say I didn't read reviews of Crocodylus before we stayed. I saw a tent with a bathroom and I was in. Great communication from Sally prior to our stay regarding things to do and we booked the night walk.

It's quite an experience staying here. The noise from the arguing scrub fowls is incredible. Bring earplugs! Power on at 7am for a few hours, back on at 5pm and off again at 10:30pm. If you are out and about after 10:30 make sure you have a torch. It's very, very dark as my partner found out...

Follow the rules and do not leave food of any kind in your huts. We had a couple of clip lock bags with meds in them. A Menomys got into one that had been left open and had a chew on some blood thinning tablets! We got a picture of it still in the bag but let it out unharmed after it's photo op.

The double bed is really small when you're used to a bigger bed. Maybe as they come up for replacement put queen beds in some of the cabins?

Sally is a great cook!! Sally's dinners and breakfasts were excellent. Steve makes a mean coffee. Beer and cider was very reasonably priced.

We didn't use the pool but it was clean and virtually leaf free, amazing considering the trees that surround it.

Bring a pack of cards with you and either headlamps or a battery lamp to use in your hut after power off.

If we return to the Daintree I'm pretty sure we'll stay another couple of nights at Crocodylus.

Very nice stay near Daintree NP

If you are looking for a rainforest experience to watch birds, look no further. The location is great - a trail starts from your room. An added plus is a large self-service kitchen complete with everything you need to prepare your meals and a large outside dining area. Nice vibe to the place. We stayed in one of the safari tents, very thin walls requiring consideration of your neighbors!
Overall, a great experience and a good chance to see cassowary.

Amazing experience sleeping out with the sounds of the rainforest, but still having the protection of canvas walls, roof and mosquito nets.

I would definitely not call this glamping and found my cabin a little overpriced for two basic, unmade single beds with not a hook or table to rest anything on. I would've been just as happy on a camp stretcher in a lightweight sleeping bag, which I would pay half the price for. The food was also a little overpriced for few options and how basic it is. But there are not alot of other places to eat so good to have something available - though it is also just for an hour or two twice a day.

Exactly as advertised! A relaxing retreat in the middle of the jungle. We've stayed at a few 'bush camp'-type places, and Crocodylus was the best in terms of cleanliness of the facilities and quality of amenities like showers and dining area. Steve was helpful with tips on places to go around Cape Trib, and Sally produces amazing meals at reasonable prices (hard to do in such a remote spot!). We hope to come again.

what a great place to stay to get the kids out of the city and into some nature. steve and sally are warm, enthusiastic and accommodating hosts. it has a wonderful communal feel and puts you right in the rainforest. the meals are great value and are simple and delicious. games galore, nature tracks to explore and a great way to enjoy a more simple existence. the kids loved it and we would recommend highly for families with young kids looking for something a little different a resort and kids club.

We had a terrific experience at Crocodylus. Our hosts were super friendly and warm, and did everything to make us feel welcome. Although there is a fully equipped kitchen, we ended up eating breakfast and dinner at the restaurant – lovely, wholesome home cooking. Staying in the middle of the rainforest is truly a unique experience. We also did the Night Walk, which was excellent – a must-do if you stay at Crocodylus. Highly recommended!

I was very disappointed on arrival. Yes it’s the Daintree and it was a backpackers but for the price they charge for the room was way too expensive. My wife and I didn’t end up staying and there were no staff on hand to explain why. Left a message to ask them to contact me so I could arrange a refund but nothing- I was charged the full amount of $85 for a basic Woden shack I didn’t stay at- thoroughly disappointed. I know why they don’t show photos of the rooms on the website.

I was not expecting a rustic room with just a fan, mosquito netting and a light. The toilet is in another building. But once I got over the shock it was a very pleasant stay. Except that the couple in the room behind us hopefully was not aware that we were in the next room trying to sleep because we could here every word of their loud conversation. Finally got up at 11pm and asked them to stop. However Steve was an excellent host and I would stay again, asking for a cabin with no neighbors.

Wake up in the rainforest

A great place to stay to explore the Daintree. I was traveling alone and found the dorm rooms to be super comfy (I lucked out with a room to myself, perfect timing 👌), clean and quality sheets, comfy bed and you cannot go past waking up to the sound of the rain forest, it’s pure magic and you cannot help but relax. Staff are really friendly, the facilities are great. It’s very much glamping. There’s a nice big communal kitchen where you can leave your things and cook or there’s the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. If you’re saving some coin, pick up some supplies on the way and prepare your own food. I’d highly recommend the guided night walk, Steve is very passionate and knowledgeable and you’ll learn so much about the inredible rainforest that surrounds Crocodylus. I’ll be back.

We had a great time at Crocodylus. The experience was just what we needed and wanted - immersion in the outdoors, a little bit of roughing it with some creature comforts. Cooking and shared bathroom facilities were all great.

We stayed in one of the family rooms and our only issue was that we weren't expecting the such paper thin walls between our room and then next - you can hear everything! Other than that, would highly recommend staying here. And our highlight was the spotlight tour - such a great experience even if the wildlife didn't come out that night!

Steve, who runs the place, is very helpful and knows you by name immediately. Take their lengthy and \"wild\" hiking path (right off the back of the cabin area) for an exciting nature experience that rivals the popular public hikes.

Wished we could have stayed longer. Crocodylus offers so much to appreciate for travellers on a budget or looking for something other than a manicured motel room. Beautiful solid wood tables and benches in the communal area, well equipped self catering kitchen, affordable meals and bar, lovely pool, plenty of games and books for entertainment.
It was very special going to sleep and waking up surrounded by the sounds of the forest. Very peaceful way to get away from the touristy trail. Steve's night walk was terrific, as were his coffee and hot chocolate. I believe Sally's cooking rates highly too.
Rooms are very basic (they could use a hook or two to hang wet towels on), but beds very comfortable and small verandah a great way to get away from people for a while. Hot showers better in the mornings as hot water was a bit unreliable in the evenings. I will be back for some more digital/life detox.

Great sleep in the wilderness

Very friendly staff, great (and cheap per Australian standard) food. Big common area with lots of board games to choose from. Highly recommend if you are looking to experience the nature/rainforest up close. You will get a true rainforest experience, including bugs (not bad inside the rooms) and early morning bird chirps. We did not see any, but heard there are some cassowaries known to roam around the hotel property occasionally.

I loved this part of our holiday because I wanted something back to basics with the kids. So the ratings don't really reflect how much I liked it. It is like camping in a backpackers, communal living in your own room with a permanent tent. If you like luxury and creature comforts - this is not the place for you. However, bc the place is set up for communal living we got to hang out and play pool and cards with the kids which was really nice. During the day it was really well located to short drives up north to Cape Tribulation . LOVED the rain-forrest. It has a communial kitchen which means you can make your stay quite cheap by self catering. Owners were very friendly and I liked the atmosphere.Have to admit I didn't sleep all that well due to hearing (what felt like) every person in the resort walk to the communal toilets at night, combined with some very vocal nightlife (residents and animals). And the beds are not that big with a thin matress, so if you have a largish partner it can be squeezy and a bit hard. However, I was willing to live with this as we only stayed 3 nights. Does help to come a bit prepared to a place like this (ie torch, food, etc)

Great Experience Staying in The Daintree

The Crocodylus Village makes you feel like you're staying in the middle of the rainforest... and you are! They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner at their on site restaurant and bar. There are heaps on site activities and games for everyone including kayaking, night walks, and board games. The village is a short drive away from most locations in the park. The huts themselves are cozy and charming. I would definitely stay here again. The staff are exceptionally polite and helpful!

Being a stay in the middle of the forest, it's different and interesting. But I think they have taken things too far by having transparent nets for walls, no locks on doors, shaky wooden platforms that make whole lot of noise when someone walks on them.

Amazing jungle experience

This place is fantastic if you love being close to nature and enjoy the sounds of wildlife while you are going to sleep and as soon as you wake. It's a perfect location for walking in Daintree and the staff and food are amazing. The night walk is great and allows you to see lots of wildlife that you wouldn't see if you were out on your own. There is lots of amphibian, reptile and invertebrate life living in the overhead canopy that leads you to your room so have a look at night with a flashlight. My only complaint was the blanket on my bed smelt really musky. Staff and food were amazing

Fantastic affordable rainforest stay experience.

We arrived late afternoon in time to still have enough daylight to find our cabin amongst the jungle rainforest of the Daintree. The cabins are airy and simple but cosy, we chose a cabin with an ensuite. Rooms have a ceiling fan and a mozzie net over the bed. Shade cloth upper half of the cabin allowed the rainforest critter and rain sounds into the cabin being better than any sleep music. The dinner and breakfast meals we had were great home style meals along with cold beers and drinks at knock out prices during and after happy hour.
Crocodylus is a great place to stay and experience a night in the rainforest but still with a few creature comforts. Definitely recommend a stay.

This hotel was constructed amist the Daintree rainforest with the minimum disruption of the environment. As a city dweller, I did not find it comfortable. But the experience of seeing wild animals passing your front door and hearing raindrop on the roof every night was unique and unforgetable. Unexpectedly, the cooking of this hotel was good in Australian standard.

Once we stepped off the road we entered a new world of experience…the tranquility of the rainforest at Daintree Crocodylus. Lovely staff will make you feel at home. Be sure to take this road less travelled type experience too!!

Home in the rainforest

This was an amazing place to stay for a little Daintree Rainforest adventure. It was everything we thought it would be and more. Rustic yet comfortable accommodations brought you right into the rainforest. The staff was great and it was an experience we won't soon forget.

This is a true rainforest experience. Doors don't lock. Take your luggage to the room with a wheelbarrow. Don't forget insect repellent!!!! Fireflies and spiders, lots of rainforest life. Take your own food to cook or buy from their modest restaurant. Staff is very friendly and remembered who we were for all interactions. Communal toilet/shower blocks were never busy. Pool was good for a dip in the heat and for the kids to have a play but better to enjoy the surrounding creeks and nature on Cape Tribulation. car parking easy. well organised place albeit showing it's age and more for the backpacker or family.

Crocodylus was great!

Crocodylus is a fantastic, affordable rainforest gem! Everything you need is there: the basics in the huts like comfortable, clean bedding and mosquito nets, a restaurant with beautiful meals, well-equipped and clean self-catering options, a refreshing pool, organised activities available, a charming little bar with a good coffee machine and yum local beans, bicycles to hire, lots of board games, books and decks of cards...all whilst being bathed in the squawk, hoot, squeak, rustle, rustle noises of the immaculate Daintree Rainforest. Our family visited Huchinsons Creek (about 5 minutes drive up the road) for a dip (absolutely gorgeous!) and drove to the beach (about 3 kms down the road), but most of our time was spent playing games (FYI - Steve is pretty serious about his Chess...prepare for a meeting of the minds!), swimming, eating and relaxing at the hostel...and we liked it so much we stayed an extra night! Crocodylus is a quiet, peaceful retreat and it's number one stand out feature is the awesome customer service - the staff make it really special.

Jungle life experience

Very nice atmosphere. Water in the pool was fresh. All the staff we're friendly. Do the nightwalk - it was the best. Do know that this is a jungle village (insects, etc).

Made for everyone who loves the rainforest

We stayed at Crocodylus for 1 night and we enjoyed the place. We arrived in the afternoon and the reception wasn´t attended yet but fortunately everything was organised and we found a little information with our names on. So we could make ourselves at home and had a look around. As we were visiting in the off season we were the only little group staying at Crocodiles which felt a little bit adventurous. The room was spacious and clean and I would recommend my friends this place.

Wildlife experience

I recommend staying here short term it's more for the experience than relaxation. I stayed here for one night and during the night I had to get up to go to the bathroom I found myself running through the rainforest scared ha but it was a great experience that I would do again just not long term!

We enjoyed our stay. We could not believe that the local wild life made so much noise at night, it was interesting trying to guess what was outside our tent. We enjoyed the food which was home cooked and breakfast was amazing, it was enough to keep us going for the day. Happy hour was a great time to see families enjoying each others company, kids talking and playing with their parents. The facilities were a bit dated but its a rainforest and a conservation centre and the facilities blend into the area. We would be happy to stay there again only longer next time. The eco tent we were assigned slept 8, clean bedding and misquoto nets were supplied.

Awesome stay at Crocodylus village

The BBQ was really good. We had a very good experience slipping in the bungalow that allows to hear the forest animals! The owners are very nice.

Wonderful family stay in the rainforest!

We spent on night in a family tent, three kids two adults. Exactly what we were looking for, bit of glamping in the rainforest. Night walk with guide Possum was a highlight. Felt a bit pricey when booked, but totally worth it for the experience. Possum was great with the kids and led them to many \"discoveries\" in the forest on their own. Food was plentiful and good standard and convenient. Staff very welcoming and friendly. That said we barely slept! The rainforest is a noisey place and the beds are very much camp beds, but that was just what we were after and had plenty more restful nights on our holiday.

Great but more 'backpackers' than 'resort'?

Stayed 3 nights in July so the resort was full. Enjoyed the whole experience but have reservations whether to call it a resort as it is really more like a backpackers. Staff were excellent, family cabin quite unique and comfortable (although no furniture provided other than a bed) and the surroundings are beautiful. However, the constant noise from the common dining room/bar/kitchen spoiled the atmosphere during the morning and evening. Hot water only available for a few hours in the morning and in the early evening. No food allowed in the cabin so had to share a common kitchen as in a backpackers. Would have liked to know that beforehand so we could have arranged it differently. The 'bush' pool did not look at all inviting. Nice little bar and evening meals at very reasonable prices. Overall an unique experience and would probably stay there again.

A fantastic experience in the Daintree rainforest.

We stayed as a family of five in a rainforest Bungalow. The room was spacious with a double bed, two bunk beds, single bed, linen, daily change of towels and a bathroom. The time spent in the rainforest was basic but incredible. It felt like glorified camping with a youth Hostel feel. The rooms and facilities were clean, and in good condition. The owners and staff were very helpful with fantastic advice and guidance. It was great to spend time in such a natural unique environment and use all our senses to experience it more. Having no mobile reception just made our time as a family more memorable. Amazing time and place.
